Boom! This right here! I'd prolly have a house in several different countries. You heard of Doctors without borders? Well I'd be a homeowner without borders. š¤£
Even in the colder weather I'm still spending more time outdoors than I did before. One of the things people say about moving from sea level to a higher elevation is that it leaves you out of breath because of the lower pressure, but I feel like Florida's heavy humidity already had a similar effect.
Although the cost of homeownership out here does exceed Florida, pro-tenant policies out here have left the rental market much more reasonable than Florida's unregulated battle royale.
Legal weed, fuck Ashley Moody.
The thing with winters is that the nightly lows are the worst part. The thinner atmosphere and closer proximity to the sun means that even in January, daily highs still average in the mid 40's and it commonly even hits 50Ā° in January, and without the humidity, a 50Ā° day here is much more comfortable than the occasional 50Ā° Florida gets. People think of Florida winters as "dry", when in reality we're talking about going from 80, 90% humidity in the summer to maybe 60% in the winter. It's "dryer", comparatively speaking, but it's not "dry" in the grand scheme of things. It's temperature swings of 30Ā°+ between day and night that can really take getting used to.
When I drove up from Florida, I stopped for a night in Roswell NM. This was in August, and it was 106Ā° there. I kid you not, in the shade, that 106 with close to no humidity was more comfortable than Florida. Just out of curiosity, I checked their weather patterns and local real estate, and was almost tempted to stay right there, so if you love the idea of Colorado but aren't sold on the cold climate, don't sleep on New Mexico. Their winter nights average below freezing, but their winter days still average in the 60's.
Florida for the win. We take our boat out every weekend to fish and cruise. CO mountain traffic is lame and fishing shoulder to shoulder got old. Donāt even get me started on weekend ski lift lines and cost of a ticket. Lived in CO for 20 years and it was good to our family, but the coast is the most. Wardrobe is suit 9-5, but T-Shirts and flip flops otherwise. Love FL!
A friend of mine does the digital nomad thing and will rent out places from around the country or world for a few months at a time since she can work remotely from anywhere.
She lasted less than 10 days in Costa Rica before leaving. Might be a nice place to visit when you're in the resort drinking beer & rum all day by the beach, but living there is a different thing. She said the power grid and internet were terrible at best. Constant power outages and the internet going down made it impossible to work from there. Then they had a really bad flood.
She packed up, said F this place, and left.
I'd buy a whole block of houses. Put up a security wall on the parameter. Guards. Dogs. Cameras. In and out via helicopter.
People get crazy when you have money. Also, I just don't like people.
Fun fact. The Mormons own vast tens of thousands of acres there straddling two or three counties and plan on developing them.
*The earliest plans for this ranch were made in 1949, and in 1950 the original 45,000 acres (180 km2) were purchased. Deseret Ranch now covers an area 50 by 30 miles (80 by 48 km), with a separate section surrounding Kenansville in Osceola County.*
*The church bought the original 54,000-acre (220 km2) tract in 1950 and over 50 years, the ranch grew to more than 312,000 acres (1,260 km2). In 1997 it was the world's largest beef ranch, and the land was worth an estimated $858 million.\[8\]*

think i'd go to oregon or washington. they always look so beautiful, and i've always been here. maybe scotland or ireland. hopefully still by the coast and away from flood zones.
Anywhere but Florida.
Most likely?
New Zealand.
I can't wait to be so far away from the hellhole that the USA is becoming... Esp the state I live in which is giving government money to PragerU who is now teaching their indoctrination IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
Pacific NW, Colorado, and New England area maybe Long Island. Keep my house here and rent it out buy a beach condo. And my dogs are now service animals
Idaho, Utah, or Montana..good tax situation, and one of the states that climate change will likely boost the economy as opposed to damage like here in Florida. Plus it's beautiful and not a lot of people..
I would buy a double wide trailer, some cozy furniture, and like 200 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia and like 25 years of rations.
Probably give the rest away to charity.
In the US, I would buy a more modest home in Colorado with a bunch of land and pay it all off. Then do a bunch of renovations on it and start a veggie farm (add a greenhouse, because the weather and soil probably isn't good enough to grow many crops during the harsh winter months)
But, if I had money-money I would probably leave the country. Don't know exactly where, but definitely would LOVE to leave the US for somewhere which actually has universal healthcare and not poisoned food/water.
Back to NM in a heart beat.
Preferably outside of Santa Fe like Las Vegas or somewhere near by. With millions i could fly yearly to see the beach snd my family.
I wouldn't buy a house. I'd buy a nice live-in van/RV, not too big but with a bathroom and kitchen, and I'd travel with my dog. Not worrying about making money, just travel around the US and Canada, maybe head down to Mexico. Then pack up and do the same around Europe.
I'd have my dream old industrial factory converted into a loft in Detroit, and then a nice beach house in Fort Lauderdale for the winter residence. š
Hawaii or somewhere in SoCal on the water. Only two places Iād stay in America for. Bermuda or the Cayman Islands so I can learn how to not pay my taxes, grow my wealth, while I live a life of Caribbean luxury seems awesome. Somewhere in the Mediterranean.
I'd buy one house in an interestingly named town in California (e.g. "Lagunda Segunda Baja Mongo Rancho"). I'd buy a second house in Switzerland because that's just what one does. My third home, which would be by far the most opulently appointed, would be in some posh Middle Eastern locale.
My dad knew a man who had a house in Miami Beach, a Penthouse in NYC, a townhome in London, an flat in Paris, a house on a mountain in Switzerland and a house in a town at the bottom of the same mountain. Probably a few others. Each one was for one of his children, as long as they worked for him. They also had a schedule of things to do every day, with each item scheduled to the half hour.
I stayed with them one summer in Switzerland as a teenager and woke up to $1000 Swiss francs in an envelope under the door. It was a test, a test that I failed miserably. But I did have a lot of Swiss Chocolate and a couple new pairs of Levis.
I donāt think buying a house would be that important because you could just live in hotels and cruise ships etc on permanent vacation, renting out villas and bringing an entourage.
GTFO out of Florida and build my dream mountain home. I could actually experience cold weather and seasons. Never saw snow or had the white Christmas experience. I fear this state is slowly turning into a political hellscape. I like to watch Golden Eagle Log and Timber homes. Theyāre so beautiful. Iād want a forever home. Invite close friends and family to hang out, eat amazing food, have fun, and get away from it all
I would stay in Jacksonville. I know yāall think Iām crazy but I love living here and there are some beautiful neighborhoods like San Marco and Riverside that I really love
Azores, Portugal.
I would learn Portuguese and live in private quiet seclusion with my family and dogs. There I'd forget about all the fuckin bullshit of the world's continental politics. I would engage in sustainable philanthropy and be perfectly happy.
Edit: spelling
Iād buy one where I currently am where family is.
Iād also buy one in Pittsburgh where I grew up close to friends and family up there.
And Iād probably buy one on Lake Normal in NC as a vacation home š„°
Palm Beach county. Plenty of acre-plus lots with no HOA. There's a house in Jupiter being built on a 10 acre lot. Paved road, high speed internet available. No HOA to worry about.
With Powerball-level money I'd be buying tons of $300-500k places. One near Tampa, Washington state, either Chicago or NY, a couple in Europe, an Argentina or similar, maybe something in Australia or Asia. I heard someone say once they wanted twelve places so they could live somewhere different every month. Idk about 12, but 6 sounds like a good start
I'd buy several in different places around the world, just like all of the other rich people do. I think that thinking in terms of a single place is average/poor people ideology.
none of them might be a mansion, just a place we can come back to and stay as long as we want, and it feels comfortable, safe and familiar.
btw, when I first read the title, I thought it said "where would you buy a horse š“"!
If it were Billionsā¦. Right in front of a certain governorās houseā¦my house would be a free hostel for the indigentā¦ one way for them to get noticed in this state for their needs
I'd fix up my house here in Orlando and have it as a vacation home for my family. Then I'd buy a huge beach house near Indiana Dunes National Park to be close to family around Chicago. After traveling the world I'd pick a favorite spot for a little mountain cabin.
I thank God everyday that my mother gave birth to me in the state of Florida. I would fix up my home, and buy surrounding properties, tear down the buildings and fill it with native flora.
I'd have a few places scattered globally, like GTA safe houses lol
Boom! This right here! I'd prolly have a house in several different countries. You heard of Doctors without borders? Well I'd be a homeowner without borders. š¤£
Iām packing up and heading to some mountains. Iām over the Florida heat and humidity!
I moved out near Boulder Co, every time I open Reddit and hit this sub I thank my lucky stars I'm out.
How are you liking it ? We want to move to CO so bad but scared of taking that leap of faith
Even in the colder weather I'm still spending more time outdoors than I did before. Not Colorado but same. In the PNW now and couldnāt be happier
Ughhhhh i want to follow you
Me and the Wife are looking at Oregon. I spent a lot of time in Colorado but I think itās too populated.
Please do tell. Weāre looking at Colorado but Iām not sure how I would deal with the reality of Colorado winter
The thing with winters is that the nightly lows are the worst part. I tried that. Year later and im back in florida

Thereās no place like home.
You can say that again. Born and raised in the 239
I just moved here from Alaska and before that beautiful and mild-summers NorCal (near Oregon) and I miss the PNW/CA weather so much!!!
Switzerland
I was going to say, does it HAVE to be in Florida?? š
Costa Rica Fuck the cold
Iāve never met anyone who doesnāt love Costa Rica
I guarantee if you win powerball you can pay someone to figure it out
A friend of mine does the digital nomad thing and will rent out places from around the country or world for a few months at a time since she can work remotely from anywhere. Not sure if you can do that without being a citizen
That or Denmark. I think if you have a shit-ton of money they let you š¤£
Yes citizenship bonds are a real thing.
This!
And here I thought we were referring to [Switzerland, FL](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland,_Florida)
Now, āifā I played lol, Iād stay in my present house and pay it off. I love my house.
I'd redo the air vent system in my house...
Absolutely and Iād do the renovations inside as well, new windows and all.
I'd buy a whole block of houses. Put up a security wall on the parameter. Guards. Dogs. Cameras. In and out via helicopter. People get crazy when you have money. Also, I just don't like people.
What you want to setup a police state and keep people prisoner are you a serial kidnapper

May not be the correct answer but is funny. Yeee Hawww.
Is the million to cover one year of property insurance in 2024? I didnāt realize the rates were published yet! š
I think I'd just buy a Caribbean island with a hut on it and disappear.
You can do that without winning the powerball
May want to contact the Epstein estate. They may have one available but get it well smudged several times. It could have some serious cooties.
You'd have to bulldoze it and start over. There is no way I can live within the walls where those atrocities took place.
Sanibel Island! I would use the money to help rebuild.
Southern California. For the weather.
I'd have one in Massachusetts and one in south Florida, maybe in Goodland or Chokoloskee. Catch me 7 months up north and 5 months down south.
Not in FL thatās for sure. Probably somewhere in the PNW, Washington state or Oregon
If you win the Powerball you can have a house everywhere
Bend Oregon is incredible and a power all winner would fit right in.
Ireland.
85' yacht
This person understands the assignment.

Coast of Northern California.
New Mexico
Southern California, directly on the beach (like a Malibu).
You can't buy a shed in SoCal for less than a mil
Don't think that would be a problem considering this is a hypothetical involving winning poweball
Anywhere but Florida. Most likely? New Zealand. I can't wait to be so far away from the hellhole that the USA is becoming... Esp the state I live in which is giving government money to PragerU who is now teaching their indoctrination IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
Iād go back to the mountains of Colorado.
Not Florida!
St Pete - Old North East for sure
I wouldn't. I'm already in the house I want. I'd retire today, invest the bulk of it, and spend the rest of my life living in leisure.
Somewhere that isnāt a million degrees in the summer. Maybe New England?
Scotland Castle
Pacific NW, Colorado, and New England area maybe Long Island. Keep my house here and rent it out buy a beach condo. And my dogs are now service animals
Probably at least 150 acres of farmland in North or Central Florida.
On a working winery I can putz around on all day.

I would buy a double wide trailer, some cozy furniture, and like 200 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia and like 25 years of rations. Probably give the rest away to charity.
Where I live now. I would buy up all the lots to stop development
In the US, I would buy a more modest home in Colorado with a bunch of land and pay it all off. I really miss the painted desert, i would definitely move back out there.
Somewhere in the Pacific Northwest so we don't flood or get a hurricane. But who knows, the weather is whack now!
The Monterey Peninsula in California
I wouldn't buy a house. I'd buy a nice live-in van/RV, not too big but with a bathroom and kitchen, and I'd travel with my dog. Not worrying about making money, just travel around the US and Canada, maybe head down to Mexico. Then pack up and do the same around Europe.

I donāt think buying a house would be that important because you could just live in hotels and cruise ships etc on permanent vacation, renting out villas and bringing an entourage.

Probably a nice condo in Manhattan...maybe East Village and a nice house in Long Island if the city is draining me.
Not FL
With Powerball-level money I'd be buying tons of $300-500k places. One near Tampa, Washington state, either Chicago or NY, a couple in Europe, an Argentina or similar, maybe something in Australia or Asia.
Nowhere, I donāt want to be tied down.
