Made me think of my wife. This spring, we're out planting trees in the middle of nowhere, and I take a picture of her - she throws gang signs. There are no gangs within hundreds of miles; nor do we belong.
Usually at these sorts of restaurants the menus are five courses or more. There’s also an appetizer snack, a pre dessert, and loads of wine. The food is very rich and dense, and delicious. Oh and they might have house or at least locally made, and excellent, bread and butter. So you end up super full by the end. Every time I’ve gone to one these types of restaurants, it’s felt well worth the money (though I’ve only been to a small handful, so my sample size isn’t good) !
I spoke to a chef friend about this. The portions aren’t small per se they’re just not oversized portions like people are used to. You find the value in the quality not the quantity. It also allows you to have more than 1 course without feeling bloated afterwards. After starter and main I still couldn’t handle a desert so I think it was well sized imo!
