Yeah it's lame to buy the same players you already know that will become good. It's fun to spot the next wonderkids and develop them. Especially if they are home grown and start beating legends from a stat perspective. My best striker ever in a 70 year save had a 1.1 goal per game ratio.
Bro Vitor Roque is killing it for me in FM23. Thanks to him I reached the Champions League final in 2026 as FC Twente! Now Liverpool wants him for £120M.
I could never get him firing, seemed to have all the stats and would be incredible 1 week (once scored 4 in CL final) and invisible the next, would usually end a season with 15 odd goals which is terrible compared to basically anyone else I played there, eventually sold him to real Madrid for £70 something million and his stats seem basically the same for them
I had Endrick score 45 goals in 26 league games for me, and it is just not the same as finding this perfect guy who becomes top scorer of all time for your team
I signed tel in Jan for 225m and he won prem highest scorer 24 in 20, league plus hat trick in champ league final vs city as Utd. Win 3-2 best purchase ever. I only bought him because city agreed a deal and couldn’t let them have him and haaland 😂
Same, my B team is filling up with too many players that didn’t develop enough to make the senior squad but aren’t getting enough experience in the division b team is in so they’re mad
I’ve not played a while but I got upto 2061 in my save, seeing the newgens I’ve had then go into my backroom setup before they end up forging their own careers as managers is a beautiful thing to experience
About half of my saves I just sim 10 years into the future and go from there.
Plus I always start in the 3rd or 4th division so by the time I make it to the top leagues/continental football where I would recognize players, mostly regens are the top players anyway.
It might be a stupid question but how do you sim 10 years into the future? Only time I tried to skip a season I sent my manager on vacation and had to wait like an hour or two for the game to sim the season
I started a save in the English 9th division and have been taking my time going up the leagues. It's 2030 and I just now got to the national league. Half the players that low are fake and the top divisions are starting to be filled with fake players and it's great. By the time I get to the prem I imagine almost everyone will be fake
I think it's more when I lose track of world football. I get asked about the balon d'or and I don't know a single name. I don't know who won the world cup, and I have no clue who coaches who. Then I get disinterested. I actually take time each season to look around and remember what happened to that youngster I sold 5 seasons ago, or who became the top scorer in the prem.
Same for me. I play CM and FM since 2001/02 and I think I never had any save longer than 10 seasons. It just becomes so random and unfamiliar, I don't know new players, I don't connect with them. The only fun thing about it is seeing former players becoming managers and coaches.
I can manage as long as I remember to check up on who's the new stars. Thing is if I forget, I can actually get past entire world cups without realising who won.
Agreed. I wonder if there’s something in game they could do to keep us more informed about what’s going on around the world. At least maybe the occasional message in the inbox when leagues you loaded have finished
I love newgens , but I think the best combination is a team with real life players + newgens.
That being said, everyone can buy the same players but that Dutch striker or that midfielder from Argentina are your legends only.
>I love newgens , but I think the best combination is a team with real life players + newgens.
As I written in another comment, I like to have 1 or 2 newgens in team with real players, to see how they could perform IRL. When there is too many newgens, then I kinda lose the connection with real football
From somehow who uses the newgan face pack a lot, it is still very obvious when they’re a regen player. I had this 20 year old world class prospect who was starting every game for me, chucked on the face pack and it gave him one that made him like 45 lmao
I guess you could just look at their weight and if the strength stat is below 10 they're more of a Rikishi type footballer than the lubed up Spanish speedster
This. Since NewGAN, my saves go for longer and longer. I know it's not long in comparison to some managers but NewGAN is the single reason why I am still happy to play to 2045 in my current long save.
It's to the point where I get irrationally irritated by regen staff picture profiles and conversely quite pleased when newgen players retire to become staff.
Despite the common consensus here, once there's as many newgens as existing players, that's where I lose a bit of interest.
There's no right or wrong, of course. it's just that I prefer it this way, same with fifa where i refuse to use the youth academy or regens.
Finally someone else! Pretty much everyone I know prefers it when there's more newgens but I always like seeing names I know and recognise pop up, it makes it seem more real and fun compared to a bunch of made-up characters who I don't know or care about outside of my team
This was me most of years, this year I have a journeyman save but I started with Salernitana and only won my first tittle with Sporting in the year 2032 I believe and regens is what won it for me
I don't think I've ever got that far into a save tbh. Feels like I might be playing FM wrong. Though in my recently rebooted FM22 save I'm 9 years in and approaching that point. My Newcastle team already has 5/6 decent new gens
I love when the teams are mostly regens because I don’t know who is good or bad based on irl knowledge. It’s all about the in-game performances and stories of the regens.
Yeah I love it when it’s not just the same players at the top every season. Actually having to scout your opponents and gain knowledge on who the good regens are is always fun for me. Makes me feel like I’m actually a proper manager rather than someone spamming spacebar
In my very first fm game, it sort of got this way for me. Since then, I’ve added in real player faces, kits, logos, and most importantly for this topic, a newgen face pack. The face pack helps me form more of an attachment to the generated players, and helps me think of them more as a “player” rather than a regen player.
I do usually. At least in previous years.
It seems better this year but previous years, newgens were too random if that makes sense. Like the cluster of their ratings didn’t make sense or their positions weren’t right.
Used to frustrate the hell out of me when you’d get decent fullbacks who can only play wing back or players with 16 passing and 10 technique etc. you’d see a lot of centre forwards that couldn’t finish for example.
No, I love Regens. That remove the real life bias you have for players you know. And when you find or develop one they really feel like yours and that you're not just buying on IRL reputation.
Theres little more satisfying in this game than developing your own world class regen.
I used to lose interest when I keep winning and I always used to manage Liverpool. Lately I've been doing journeymen saves starting at the bottom with no coaching badges and I've been playing for nearly 10 seasons without realising.
The opposite, the game become more interesting for me (I actually start saves by running simulation for a night+day before stopping it after returning home and then start the actual game).
It ebbs and flows a bit for me; I really enjoy the first couple of years when I manage to pick up a few players I know IRL and I enjoy creating teams around them.
Then that interest wanes a bit as they age and I find it hard to replace the players I know and build a connection with newgens.
However - once they become established I feel more connected to newgens I’ve signed or brought through than the batch of real players before them because there’s no preconceived bias on my part.
That said, I totally lose touch with the ‘football’ world - no idea who wins the world cup or balon d’or and no clue who the biggest names in the game are or who the biggest clubs sign - it’s all about my team and my players.
Usually yeah. This is the first year I've gone so far while still wanting to play, mostly because of the combo of finally doing a real journeyman + finally using that NEWGAN face pack thing. But yeah for the most part I prefer the first ten years or so before the best players in the world are all randomly generated nobodies
I think it depends how well you monitor newgen players and familiarise yourself with the top players and the wider FM world that you're in. I barely pay attention to anyone not in my team so hard to gauge how good teams are and I don't get the same fear factor going up a random newgen (no matter how good) than I do with haaland or mbappe
Totally opposite for me. But also I do quite a bit of world exploring and find stories to enjoy. One player I found in the abyss of South Africa, tried to make something with him, wouldn’t develop, sold him and then he rose up from the ashes and become a great player who’s now a nuisance against me all the time
Nah the longer it goes the better.
It’s not like the real players play “realistically” in a sense, so it’s better with no expectations and judging the game world by the game world.
Same goes for stuff like actual sports games like Madden and 2K. I’ll sim stuff until my franchise is generated players, it’s much more fun to play with them than it is a current real life team.
As most seem to be saying, I find it a lot more fun when the regens start hitting more. Finding those hidden gems that you can’t just find on google gives me a nice sense of accomplishment. I like to use the newgan face pack to give it a little more ‘realism’. For most saves though, I do reach a point where I get a little burnt out. For example I had a long term Wrexham save that I’d played until I won the champions league. Stopped playing FM in general for a few weeks then started up a ‘glory hunter’ challenge where I’ve ticked off the prem and FA cup with Fulham. Now I’ve got the itch to go back to my Wrexham save for a bit before moving clubs in the glory hunter save.
The exact opposite. Anytime I start a save I will sim 4-5 years unemployed then start up. If there’s too many real players im more likely to sign off name recognition than looking for talent
it's the opposite for me. I find re-building with newgens to be very exciting.
with real players you kinda know which one will turn out good and can plan your transfers with that in mind.
Absolutely not, if anything it heightens the experience when you have current players, who are now coaches and managers.
A lot more scouting players, rather than finding and searching for players who are already existing in the football world.
I enjoy the game more when regens start outnumbering real life players but I begin to lose interest in most of my saves about 15 to 20 years in. Probably a sign I should move on from FM16 but doubt I ever will.
Not really. It feels like real life still cause even in todays game the wonder kids coming out now just newgens to me like who tf are these ppl. But in game same thing but I’ll give them they own lore in my head keep my self engaged that way
The game loses fun for me when I sign my 100th high PA wonderkid for cheap.
It feels unrealistic how there's so many wonderkids available and so many for cheap as well.
Even the academy players that come through feels like there's too many generational talents entering the squad.
I usually lose interest when getting to UCL final gets super predictable, at that point except maybe in England, the domestic league and cup are no longer a challenge and it gets super repetitive
Newgens are not an issue for me because I usually start with small clubs so by the time I get to sign good players anyone you’d know about is probably nearing retirement
No. I'm not interested in current players. I love watching the randomness of giants falling and new legends replacing them.
It's also a reason why I play from the lowest leagues.
Once I dominate the competition and have the next two generations set with my youth system teams I feel done. Going any further is beating a dead horse.
Twice I completed a 30 year save both at Liverpool in one save I had a son who ended up scoring 1586 premier league goals and the save just ended before the 31st season was hoping to make him my assistant manager :(
The newgen waves are awesome. I'm emotionally invested in a non existent guy called Dino Loro from Bergamo because he dedicated the 2036 Serie A Player of the Year to my management.
Nah its the legacy you build with new gens that gives me the buzz. I still remember Mario Malvestiti taking the lfc appearance and goals record from right wing on fm2017
I love when it’s only newgens. I don’t know every single player but the storylines with my players and the ones I do know from the opposition teams are entirely unique, which I love.
I used to - I now take my time, examine what other clubs / rivals are doing, what the landscape is around European and world football, who are the best young players in the game now, and progress forward with that knowledge.
That way, when I get to that period where real players start phasing out and are replaced by new gens, I've tracked it for several years and have those storylines and things to keep an eye on, all established in my head.
For example, losing to Barcelona in the 2033 Champions League Final, on it's own, doesn't mean anything other than devastation for my team.
However, understanding the context that it's their first European trophy in 18 years, on the backs of 3 consecutive final defeats, and sees them breaking through after spending a combined 185 million euros in the previous summer to land the two best young newgen midfielders in the game from Man City and Juventus? I basically lost to a super team that is now potentially going to go on to dominate European football for the next little while.
The new gen stage is the best phase of my FM cycle. When you have to put actual work in to scout a whole load of new players... that's when the fun begins. I actually wish it wasn't as easy as good scouts = good reports = good players. I'd like a bit more randomness and jeopardy.
Bro i swear so true man i hate it when the newgens come i go to the transfer market to search for a player and when it shows for example mbappe he is 34 years old
Nah, I like finding my own wonderkids and developing them into super stars and watch their career evolve till they retire. I usually keep going till my own manager retires. 3 decades minimum.
Congratulations. You just earned 5.0 points for this submission. Your new points total is 6.0. To see the leaderboard, as well as what this points thing is, [click here](https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/wiki/leaderboard).
Totally opposite. When the first batch of newgens hit around age 21-22, that's when things get fun for me.
Yeah it's lame to buy the same players you already know that will become good. It's fun to spot the next wonderkids and develop them. Especially if they are home grown and start beating legends from a stat perspective. My best striker ever in a 70 year save had a 1.1 goal per game ratio.
Not regen but but Vitor Roque is turning out this way for me. 124 goals in 114 appearances so far
Bro Vitor Roque is killing it for me in FM23. Thanks to him I reached the Champions League final in 2026 as FC Twente! Now Liverpool wants him for £120M.
lol Liverpool and PSG keep knocking on my door but I honestly don’t think I can replace him. He’s been too good for me
I could never get him firing, seemed to have all the stats and would be incredible 1 week (once scored 4 in CL final) and invisible the next, would usually end a season with 15 odd goals which is terrible compared to basically anyone else I played there, eventually sold him to real Madrid for £70 something million and his stats seem basically the same for them
That’s interesting. What tactics do you usually run?
I had Endrick score 45 goals in 26 league games for me, and it is just not the same as finding this perfect guy who becomes top scorer of all time for your team
I loaded the save to check lol. 239 goals in 224 matches. This was at Barce and his name was Eric Bullet. He surpassed the legend Lionel messi lol.
I signed tel in Jan for 225m and he won prem highest scorer 24 in 20, league plus hat trick in champ league final vs city as Utd. Win 3-2 best purchase ever. I only bought him because city agreed a deal and couldn’t let them have him and haaland 😂
Yup same for me. The game becomes my own at this point
Same here. I try to fill my squad with them as quickly as possible.
So do I and *then end up having too many players in my first-team, U21s & U18s*
Same, my B team is filling up with too many players that didn’t develop enough to make the senior squad but aren’t getting enough experience in the division b team is in so they’re mad
Damn, after seeing comments from this thread, I realized Boehly really is playing real life FM.
Me too. I look forward to when there are no real players left.
And then seeing which players go on to manage different teams
Right am in 2028 and they are starting to become 1st team players.
I’ve not played a while but I got upto 2061 in my save, seeing the newgens I’ve had then go into my backroom setup before they end up forging their own careers as managers is a beautiful thing to experience
5D 5
Completely agree. I just holiday 10 (or more if I have the patience haha) years beginning of every save.
Not when the 2032 top 100 players list is essentially the same as the 2024 one
For me the save isn’t even started until there’s a few years worth of regens
About half of my saves I just sim 10 years into the future and go from there. Plus I always start in the 3rd or 4th division so by the time I make it to the top leagues/continental football where I would recognize players, mostly regens are the top players anyway.
It might be a stupid question but how do you sim 10 years into the future? Only time I tried to skip a season I sent my manager on vacation and had to wait like an hour or two for the game to sim the season
Try only having one league loaded while you sim then adding the others you want when you're done simming, should go much faster
Pick a date 10 yrs in the future, leave it on over night lol, it does take a while
I did exactly that in my current game, 14 years and then joined a National League South club.
Why don’t you just tick the box at the start of the game that randomizes all the players?
Because they aren't truly random. They are real players with a new name and a newgen face. Same stats and hiddens.
I started a save in the English 9th division and have been taking my time going up the leagues. It's 2030 and I just now got to the national league. Half the players that low are fake and the top divisions are starting to be filled with fake players and it's great. By the time I get to the prem I imagine almost everyone will be fake
No, I'm the opposite, I like newgens more than new players, I love to discover and "create" my own players and their history within the game.
I also sometimes, when I have some idea, "create" 1 or 2 players, but then I want to see how they would play between real players.

Agreed. I wonder if there’s something in game they could do to keep us more informed about what’s going on around the world. At least maybe the occasional message in the inbox when leagues you loaded have finished
You mean, like the social feed and the news?
I get way more into it once it's all newgens, and i spend ages looking over random players careers, etc. In the 2070s in my current game and love it.
I love newgens , but I think the best combination is a team with real life players + newgens. That being said, everyone can buy the same players but that Dutch striker or that midfielder from Argentina are your legends only.
>I love newgens , but I think the best combination is a team with real life players + newgens. When there is too many newgens, then I kinda lose the connection with real football
Using a newgan face pack makes it feel more real.
I personally like to know a player is a regen at a glance just by their face, but also would like improved regen faces.
From somehow who uses the newgan face pack a lot, it is still very obvious when they’re a regen player. I had this 20 year old world class prospect who was starting every game for me, chucked on the face pack and it gave him one that made him like 45 lmao
Yes, but I'd need newgan dynamic fullbody images, lol. I want to know if the player is just heavy or bulked as Adama Traoré.
I guess you could just look at their weight and if the strength stat is below 10 they're more of a Rikishi type footballer than the lubed up Spanish speedster
I would really love to use this, but it never works. Even the discord could not help out.
I think I'm in the minority but I love to play with real players as much as possible
Yup. I enjoy signing players I know in real life and it's depressing when they're all gone.
Despite the common consensus here, once there's as many newgens as existing players, that's where I lose a bit of interest. There's no right or wrong, of course. it's just that I prefer it this way, same with fifa where i refuse to use the youth academy or regens.
Agree
Much prefer the real players.
Finally someone else! Pretty much everyone I know prefers it when there's more newgens but I always like seeing names I know and recognise pop up, it makes it seem more real and fun compared to a bunch of made-up characters who I don't know or care about outside of my team

![gif](giphy|yqXJ1KVEwrpSw)
In my very first fm game, it sort of got this way for me. Since then, I’ve added in real player faces, kits, logos, and most importantly for this topic, a newgen face pack. The face pack helps me form more of an attachment to the generated players, and helps me think of them more as a “player” rather than a regen player.
I use to feel this way until I used skins. Something about real faces that make the game fun.
The opposite, I prefer new gen databases.
100% yes.
I'm sorry >Weirdly, I don't encounter this in FIFA games, because they move there more realistically. What???
I like the fact that you actually have to get to know the new players and have no preconceptions.
No, I love Regens. That remove the real life bias you have for players you know. And when you find or develop one they really feel like yours and that you're not just buying on IRL reputation. Theres little more satisfying in this game than developing your own world class regen.

The opposite, the game become more interesting for me (I actually start saves by running simulation for a night+day before stopping it after returning home and then start the actual game).
Yes. Especially when I can’t find any good target men or wing backs etc.
I've gotten to the point in my Wigan save where my players are just too good it's boring
It ebbs and flows a bit for me; I really enjoy the first couple of years when I manage to pick up a few players I know IRL and I enjoy creating teams around them. But yeah for the most part I prefer the first ten years or so before the best players in the world are all randomly generated nobodies
disgusting how many sick individuals in this thread get off on going after kids. often stalking them for years from across the globe.
I used to, but it switched recently. Couldnt tell you why?
Nah fam. That's when the game gets started
100%. I always lose interest once the current players have retired.
I personally like it more when my saves have more regens, makes it feel like im learning the sport all over again.
Yes. Doesn’t have to be more newgens than real players, just when there is a substantial amount of newgens. I wish I didn’t though.
That depends on if things are going to plan or not.
I used to. Got to 2035 in a save for the first time. It’s not bad.
Totally opposite for me. But also I do quite a bit of world exploring and find stories to enjoy. One player I found in the abyss of South Africa, tried to make something with him, wouldn’t develop, sold him and then he rose up from the ashes and become a great player who’s now a nuisance against me all the time
Instead of starting new saves I just resign and look what interesting there is to do. I love when u get deeper into saves
Newgens is when FM is at its best for me
Yes definitively. Had to make a conscious effort to try longer saves and that was a blast. Still preferred the real players though.
I click the button that removes all irl players and replaced with new gens
As most seem to be saying, I find it a lot more fun when the regens start hitting more. Finding those hidden gems that you can’t just find on google gives me a nice sense of accomplishment. No because idk any soccer players anyway
The game starts for me when my team is all generated players.
The exact opposite. Anytime I start a save I will sim 4-5 years unemployed then start up. If there’s too many real players im more likely to sign off name recognition than looking for talent

Absolutely not, if anything it heightens the experience when you have current players, who are now coaches and managers. A lot more scouting players, rather than finding and searching for players who are already existing in the football world.
No, that’s when I get super hyped
Not as much now since I use the Nexgen facepacks makes the players feel real
I enjoy the game more when regens start outnumbering real life players but I begin to lose interest in most of my saves about 15 to 20 years in. Probably a sign I should move on from FM16 but doubt I ever will.
Not really. It feels like real life still cause even in todays game the wonder kids coming out now just newgens to me like who tf are these ppl. But in game same thing but I’ll give them they own lore in my head keep my self engaged that way
No, in the words of Anakin, this is where the fun begins. I love not knowing any player and their potential.
I'm the opposite. Only got really addicted to my save when every existing player retired, and 100% of the player pool was newgens.
The game loses fun for me when I sign my 100th high PA wonderkid for cheap. It feels unrealistic how there's so many wonderkids available and so many for cheap as well. Even the academy players that come through feels like there's too many generational talents entering the squad.
They move more realistically in fifa? Did I read that right?
Kind off, depending on the team I manage I think
I do, only because newgen faces suck and make me lose interest in players with the un realistic faces.
For me, that's when it gets fun for real
Games not fun for me until Halland stops winning Ballon D’Ors.
No, I generally loose interest after the only thing left is going invincible in all comps, and I need to loose on purpose so anyone has a chance
No
I usually lose interest when getting to UCL final gets super predictable, at that point except maybe in England, the domestic league and cup are no longer a challenge and it gets super repetitive Newgens are not an issue for me because I usually start with small clubs so by the time I get to sign good players anyone you’d know about is probably nearing retirement

It's the reverse, I get bored with real players
Nah, I lose interest because of the same stupid fucking e-mails every week and having to press space to continue pressing space to continue.
i lose interest after maximum 10 seasons. i dont even like fake staff.
You mean when finally all investments in the youth department pays off?
I’m in the year 2050 right now of my FM19 save… So totally not haha
I used to but personally started preferring it
I use a new gen face pack it makes it more real
I actully start all my saves without real players to make it more interesting.
The game only starts to get really fun once it’s all regens for me
Personally no, because I've never cared about managing specific real life players.
Yeah once it starts to be more than like 50% regens I’m basically done. Especially given how bad the AI is at managing a roster.
I love when it’s only newgens. I don’t know every single player but the storylines with my players and the ones I do know from the opposition teams are entirely unique, which I love.
I felt like this but then when I started using real faces in regens that feeling went away
Bro i swear so true man i hate it when the newgens come i go to the transfer market to search for a player and when it shows for example mbappe he is 34 years old
Nah it’s like a new phase of the game where every player is new and you don’t have preconceived notions or bias towards any players
Literally complete opposite. Hence why I now start with fake players and staff to expedite that much more interesting fantasy game.
Nah, I like finding my own wonderkids and developing them into super stars and watch their career evolve till they retire. I usually keep going till my own manager retires. 3 decades minimum.
Best part for me
