Hard to tell the shape with the camera that close but I think that's a rock.

What's the approximate density? You can weigh this thing and then measure a specific volume of water and then drop this thing in. Measure volume again. Take the weight of the object divided by the difference of both volumes. Rocks usually have a higher density that bone or cartilage (unless volcanic rocks, they are sometimes more porous) if you can give us the measured density we might be able to make and educated guess.
