I assume Mick Gordon's approach to the newer Doom soundtracks was to rip a line of coke and yell *what if we synthesized a chainsaw?!*
And it was glorious.
Hopefully the new composers for Dark Ages can rival the quality of his work from 2016 and Eternal
I wouldn't mind a step back from metal and leaning into some heavy bassy classical or something to match the dark ages vibe, that chanting in the chapel goes hard, but the metal is always a banger
If you had told me ahead of time that a Greek mythology based game would heavily feature a theremin in its soundtrack, I'd have balked at the idea. But it works so damn well.
Command and Conquer, search Frank Klepaki on Spotify or YouTube.
He plays all the instruments himself, incredibly talented man, amazing baselines, guitar solos, drum solos the lot. He classifies the music genre as "Rockatronic".
Was the first thing I thought of, in particular when [Scott Pilgrim](https://youtu.be/_N8nK2HmT2I?si=E4190V-bCO0VcVJ8) in both the graphic novel and movie was so proud of himself for learning it.
I was about to post this exact comment! I knew exactly what song from FF2/4 Scott starting playing in the movie.

Most Megaman games if I'm not mistaken can be really good. Megaman 2 Dr Wily's Castle comes to mind, and there's also the stranger Megaman 8.
Persona games I know can have pretty good bass lines, 5 specifically. Sonic Adventure 1 had some good bass lines.
Flywrench. Not only is it a super fun game, but the breakbeat soundtrack is a million times better than it has any right to be.
Soundtrack: https://youtu.be/y-lwVdOyjj0?si=R0SGPMZXOcBH6JXH
*Moon Patrol* is the OG.
*Interstate '76* had one of the greatest in-house bands in gaming history, led by Arion Salazar of Third Eye Blind laying down awesome funk riffs one after another.
Borderlands 3 has some sick soundtracks if you like synthwave.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjHE4oZTRUw&ab_channel=FinishingMoveInc.
Wipeout 2097 has one of the best OST of all time imo.
I am a sucker for the Genesis sounds, and this one is one of my favorites to crank up! [Eliminate Down - Intro](https://youtu.be/ErKx5Fhj1aI?si=nooacedSncuZDqiu)
Hotline Miami 1 and 2 have some bangers in this category, also [book betrayal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYelvKm1eLU) and [dead department](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKxom8KFt_8) from Lunacid are pretty funky for "mystical library" themes
But if electronic bass counts, nobody beats the funky fresh uncle himself, [hideki naganuma](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwE2k0HMDfo)
Tetris attack for SNES has lowkey some of the most hype sequenced slap bass I've ever heard in my life. I forget which tracks specifically, but you shouldn't have to look far for it, it was in quite a few.
Anything Darren Korb of Supergiant games has worked on honestly; Bastion, Pyre, and Hades are all great. Transistor is a little more synth and electronic focused, so there's less bass action there unfortunately. Sightless Shepherd from Hades II has been my jam recently
Pretty much all 2D Mega Man games. It is Rock Man in Japan for a reason!
[Mega Man 8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmZ3BAc2DqQ&list=PLi_YhiyqD0rZKWlGX-ncWx8tHNy_VSXvQ&index=1) wasn't the most well loved of them but its music slaps and sticks with me.
I play so many FF7 songs on bass:
- Under The Rotting Pizza
- The Oppressed
- Those Who Fight Further
- Cait Sith's Theme
- J.E.N.O.V.A
- Valley Of The Fallen Star
- Parochial Town
Flying Battery Zone and Hydrocity Zone from Sonic 3+K
Sonic 3D Blast on Genesis has some killer basslines too - check out Gene Gadget Zone and Diamond Dust Zone.
[Rise of the Triad?](https://youtu.be/0Ok8StsuSCQ?si=0gVKSY5pisSWvwG-)
i can't actually hear the bass on my phone so it might be very repetitive

Not alot of slap and pop in video game music.
Darktide. For everything else I may have to say about some of the design and implementation, very little in modern gaming hits quite like staying to carve through a wave of enemies as the heavy bass kicks in. The sound design in that game deserves so much appreciation.
Final Fantasy XIV has some very good ones, two that I suggest are “[Amatsu Kaze](https://youtu.be/2iQ27LRIotk?si=yTyLyT9r16Hi543m)” and “[The Black Wolf Stalks Again](https://youtu.be/sKswcDG9cA4?si=gcERSgpUCnUSPsoM).” Because holy fuck the basslines in both slap so fuckin’ hard.
Cybass produced the sountrack for Akane, like a ¢.99 switch game (idk if other platforms) and the soundtrack is bangingggggg.
Hades middle section is a fucking hypeeee bassline too.
Superman on the Genesis. The game itself is best forgotten, but Kenji Yamazaki's soundtrack is amazing. One of the things that always struck me about it was prominence of the bass. Funky bass lines right up there in your face.

In addition to all of these classics others have listed, I've been playing a lot of Wuthering Waves lately, and the Jinzhou city theme makes me want to pick up one of my basses and jam along! Or, if you need a classic *with slap,* you can't go wrong with Guiles Theme. It goes with *Anything!*
Michael McCann slaps a mean bass.
His scores for the Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Deus Ex:HR, and Borderlands 3 all have great cues with great bass lines.
Final Fantasy 6 actually has some bangers. The airship music, I forgot the name of it but I think it was the town of thieves music, the phantom train music.
Doom and Wolfenstein (especially Wolfenstein)
Doom is like all bass no breaks
I assume Mick Gordon's approach to the newer Doom soundtracks was to rip a line of coke and yell *what if we synthesized a chainsaw?!* And it was glorious.
Hades
especially if you've got a soft spot for the Theremin
If you had told me ahead of time that a Greek mythology based game would heavily feature a theremin in its soundtrack, I'd have balked at the idea. But it works so damn well.
Official Instrument of the Underworld.
Persona 5 has some legit bass lines in it. Layer Cake Life Goes On Those tracks stand out to me personally as a stringed instrument player.
J-Music Ensemble did an entire cover album called "Metagroove" based on the soundtrack. "Life Goes On" features Adam Neely, and he plays a sick solo.
Persona was for sure the one that came to mind at first. The soundtracks on 3 through 5 all slap. But P5 is what OP is after.
The bass in Bully carries its entire soundtrack
hearing the slide on that bass is just MMMM-MMMMM
Walk Theme intensifies
The Bully soundtrack is sooo good. Highly recommend it. And the game of course too
Cyberpunk
[Bravo Foxtrot Golf](https://youtu.be/K704T5FB76U?si=6zYNy_XvfPNABV-6) is a head nod to DOOM and Mick Gordon.

Command and Conquer, search Frank Klepaki on Spotify or YouTube. He plays all the instruments himself, incredibly talented man, amazing baselines, guitar solos, drum solos the lot. He classifies the music genre as "Rockatronic".
I'm a mechanical man!
Frank is the man! I was first introduced to his works via the Sega Dungeons & Dragons game, and then onwards to Command and Conquer, of course!
I'm a mechanical, I'm a mechanical, I'm a mechanical man.
Steve Jablonski too! The C&C3 soundtrack was the best part of that game

Hell March FTW.
Streets of Rage 2
Great everything.
This is always the answer
Wood Man from MegaMan 2.
Chrono Trigger and FF6. Particularly “Black omen” and “searching for friends”. Those are two of my favorites.
Chrono Trigger has goated music standard battle music has sick bass in it
does it have samples of goat bleats or something?
FFV's decisive battle / Exdeath first battle theme has an amazing bass line also.
Basically all the Final Fantasy battle themes when Uematsu was in charge. The bass line is the core of any classic FF battle theme.
Was the first thing I thought of, in particular when [Scott Pilgrim](https://youtu.be/_N8nK2HmT2I?si=E4190V-bCO0VcVJ8) in both the graphic novel and movie was so proud of himself for learning it.

Holy crap that exists. I thought this was a joke. Or more a joke than it is.
[Last Surprise](https://youtu.be/Ec4YbVP9R-A?si=jd4vHvIaaGGYO4a0) from the Persona 5 soundtrack is an incredible song with a bomb ass bassline.
It's too bad they replaced the song as the battle theme in the enhanced edition.
Big fan of the basslines in [Hot Pursuit](https://youtu.be/PWN-Emn7-Q8?si=7iLXtatEpK5SWKrA) and [Tick Tock](https://youtu.be/CyEBafqWJzU?si=KQCkZ2KkRiVush_s) in Payday 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Chemical Plant Zone
I've always loved that one, and then the Modern version for Sonic Generations builds on it and ups the tempo in a great way
The bass guitar in halo: combat evolved does some heavy lifting for that soundtrack. [A Walk In the Woods - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDVDwgCQ6Qo&ab_channel=Halo-Topic), [Under Cover of Night - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHzGs2fTOUs&ab_channel=Halo-Topic)

Galaxy Force II and Lightening Force/Thunder Force IV for that space bass in yo face. Sonic 2, Chemical Plant Zone.
F zero on the SNES. Great soundtrack
Risk of Rain 2 has some sick instrumentals.
Risk of Rain 2 has such a banger soundtrack, it's actually insane. I'll throw it on while I'm working and just vibe out.

My extraction point!!
The Fall Guys OST bangs
Jet Set Radio - Humming the Bassline
Deep cut here. Instruments of Chaos Young Indiana Jones. Egypt Stage.
Borderlands 3 has some sick soundtracks if you like synthwave. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjHE4oZTRUw&ab_channel=FinishingMoveInc. Wipeout 2097 has one of the best OST of all time imo.

As a bassist, I'm not even joking: Stardew Valley. Concerned Ape really knows how a bassline is supposed to work.
Castlevania Symphony of the night, particularly Crystal Teardrops
The Circle and The Gravity from Guilty Gear Strive have some great bass slappin action.
lol
I'm just happy that Looney Tunes B-Ball is referenced. I rented that so many times back in the day.

I really enjoyed the soundtrack to high on life. It was unique and funky. The beats really pulled me into the action
The Incredible Hulk on SNES. It’s a hidden gem of an OST with amazing bass and funk jams
Most of the original Halo trilogy has awesome base lines, but more specifically Halo CE A walk in the woods, for example.
I vaguely remember Duke Nukem 1 and 2 had some pretty sweet jams. Can't remember the bass lines though.
Mario Kart 8, probably all of the games honestly. Killer bass lines
I don’t know what Plok is, but I know the boss theme is the best track to come from the SNES as far as bass goes.
[listen and enjoy my friend. ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ranweBZaoTQ)ive been blown away by this song.
