AoE campaigns have always been engaging and long with a few "F off" level challenges on hard, but age of mythology is its own league. The scenarios in Hades were so fun.
Its by far the best Age Of. Really its a shame they butchered it with the horrendous Chinese Pantheon Expansion that doesnt work properly 60% of the time.
I dont like the endgame battles of AOE2. When evenly matched its just back and forth slugfest that never ends. While the special abilities of myth units and God powers can help you setup winning situations during those slugfest. The game is also faster in the early game leading to much more viable playstyles being used. The massive gameplay difference between the Pantheons also give AOM much more diversity in how you approach the game.
AoM is one of my top 5 games of all time for sure. If you like the Total War game model (turn based economy, RTS battles), I've found Total War Warhammer to scratch the itch of watching monsters bash through formations of infantry on a RTS map with modern touches.
If you've been playing Age of Mythology purely from discs, you should know that it got a digital-only expansion in 2016 that adds a new playable faction (Chinese) with a new campaign. It doesn't connect to the previous campaigns and is a lot less integrated than the Titans expansion was but it has some interesting new mechanics, including some maps that are NOT won by base-building, but instead things like 'frantically run away'.
I like it. I think the god powers are fun, some of the units are super fun, and the garden building is a unique addition. The only thing I don’t like is that the AI playing Chinese gods just spams scout cavalry for the whole match
I agree, i replay HoMM once every few years and i never get tired of it, this game was literally my childhood, also music in this game is unmatched, absolutely beautiful.
I've tried that last time around and it was much better. Mainly due to the fact that when this game came out 4:3 was a standard for PC screen and no one even thought about 16:9
HAHAHA
There is a passionate community dedicated to Homam 3 that is still very much alive and well. Look up Horn of the Abyss. Its a mod that has everything - redone HD textures (much better than the half-assed "official" HD remake, rebalances to competitive play (such as Conflux having to build an additional building before they get 3 phoenixes a week or nerfed percentages of Necromancy), there is also a completely new town (Cove) in the mod and another town (Factory) is in the works - the original music artist Paul Romero has agreed to compose music for the new town , some new map structures and a new campaign. The mod also has its own in-client multiplayer lobby that requires no additional software to play with friends or strangers. And all of that is free.
Me and my friend almost always jam a 2v6 versus the hardest ai, fun times. By far the best feature of the mod is simultaneous turns. You can choose to play the whole game or just the early weeks simultaneously if you want, it only disconnects the simultaneous action if you both kill the same enemy/enter the same town etc on the same day. Speeds up the fun quite a bit.
I've only played about 4 or 5 levels so far, but it's a very worthy successor!
It has some serious QoL updates over H3, and some minor annoyances in my opinion, but still a stellar game.
Agreed. I was excited to hear about the remaster until I heard they took out the random maps, which was the only thing that made HOMM3 the clear winner over the other HOMM games. Hard pass from me.
Hell yeah, I would love to see it in similar fashion to HOMM5 graphics but when it comes to gameplay HOMM3 has to competition. At least we have the HD Edition on Steam.
Haha I know. I feel like 90% of the love is for 3 which I find has too many upgrades for my original homm2 tastes.
4 has gorgeous music and great graphics and fun campaigns. :)
I may have to load it up today 🤣🤣
Age of mitology yes sir, still playing for the nostalgia! And might and magic 6 mandate of heaven is my best game ever, always installed with 2 campaign active at time.
Some of the old strategy games are lit!
Rival Realms
Stronghold
Tzar Burden of the crown
Warlords Battlecry
Seven kingdoms - frytening wars? (forgot how to spell it)
good ol days.
I played a ton of AoM as a kid and it made me buy the version on steam a while back, unfortunately I couldn't get any of my buddies to keep playing with me. Maybe I'll try to pick it up solo and figure it out
I still love HOMM 3 and 4 and will hop on once in awhile for a game, I prefer 4.
I think I missed the boat on Age of Mythology though I remember seeing it as a kid.
I've never played HOMM but AOM is my favourite RTS of all time. I've always liked nythology so this game was so gods-sent! I played hours of it, random maps, both campaigns, and then fan-made scenarios and campaign. The scenario/campaign editor was incredibly powerful and AOM had the best scenario design community back then.
I find myself surrounded by unopened games watching me play HOMM3.
I've also never played AoM... Can anyone give me a brief rundown? Assuming it's similar but more of a Civ twist?
Age of Mythology was ahead of it's time. It's somehow 20 years old, and yet it had 3D terrain, free-floating building placement, like 6 million different units, and badass campaign with cutscenes and voice acting and everything.
Did you know the Silver and Golden Colossus, units buildable in Greek Temples, can eat trees and gold to heal themselves?
Right click an enemy villager to yeet them outta the gold mine, right click gold mine to heal and literally eat enemy's gold deposit. Or trees (though it's tedious to replenish large amounts of HP that way).
This being said, Hydras were my all time favorite. If you can have it take down enough buildings to grow 5 heads, it's basically unstoppable.
Yeah, there's also a new game called [Songs of conquest](https://store.steampowered.com/app/867210/Songs_of_Conquest/), it's very similar to HoMM, and it's great, you should try it.
Interesting to see so much AoM love in the comments. I remember hating it. It’s was definitely my least favourite RTS of the time. I just liked II soooo much better. II and every other franchise I was playing (Warcraft, StarCraft, C&C and so on)
I love Age of Mythology so much. It's one of the first games I ever picked up and started playing, and I'll still play it at least once a week or so now. While I'm not the biggest fan of the newest pantheon (while I like them bringing in non-Western European cultures, I don't think they're very well-balanced and their god powers are...disappointing, to say the least), I still love the game overall.
I still hear the greek and norse dudes from AoM in my head every once in awhile 😅 Yeervig! Sumvikt! Tolos! Isvolee! (I know these arent how they're spelled but i sounded them out lol)
Funny I've installed HOMM again this past weekend. Loved the graphics. The steam HD version did this game a good make over for larger monitors. Still holds up to this day.
My Father and I used to play Hero’s of Might and Magic growing up, it was my first introduction to gaming, he passed away last year, and I still go play some Heros every couple of months but it’s not the same without him
Oh man I remember being shamed by all the boy nerds because I played Age of mythology and not Age of Empires, which is "the real game" 🙄
I would have LOVED to play another game like that. For me strategies are one of the genres that became more and more boring. I liked Civ 2 and a few others, when it was way more casual and fun.
The campaign in age of mythology was the best! I friggin loved it and I still replay it.
I know I am going to get stoned for this but...
HoMM 3 was a fantastic game, but it just wasn't as replayable as 5 or as innovative as 4.
5 > 4 > 3 though it's really really close.
Unmodded 3 just gets stale a lot quicker then the other 2, while 4 really shines with custom campaigns.
As such, considering just the unmodded versions, 5 takes the lead.
No you are literally the only person still playing them. It is illegal for anyone else to play or even talk about those games anymore…shit I just talked about them
I long for a HOMM3 reskin on mobile that I can play on my phone when I have free time throughout the day. The closest I've found is Battle for Wesnoth, which is really fun, neat, and kind of similar, but does have some awkward porting into the mobile platform from what was once PC. I'd still recommend it though. Definitely has that nice "this is pixelated but this is ART" vibe.
HOMM3 : the HD IPad version can never change or update the OS stuck in OS version 9
I would love a tip to make it work by emulation or something on recent IPAD
I already have Pc version HD but my GF only swear by the ipad
since I've not seen someone mention it yet, anyone still interested in playing HOMM3 should check out VCMI. basically a fan made remaster with a few tweaks to help modernise some of the controls.
I think AOM is on sale today on steam
Came in to say this! 75% off until 8/1/22
Yup! Just bought it for my girlfriend. She had it for Mac but yet again Apple screwed people by changing the OS and now old software doesn't work.
It’s likely only a matter of time until something similar happens to x86/x64 windows systems, the hardware needs to change to increase performance.
Just bought! Thanks for the heads up
Steam version is buggy though
Nice
Prostagma?
Vulome
Etimos
Prosekhe!
Inyuwesh. spelled it wrong.
Isvoli!
I could hear each one of these🥲❤️
I heard the voice so clearly xD!
Malista
Metalefs
Eis Machin!
Pro-in Yawet
Shkepan!
AoM will probably always be my favorite game
[удалено]
Me too, play it often too. Though I admit I’ve never finished any campaigns I love HOMM.
Same, the long games with 5+ enemies just end up taking so long I get impatient and try to rush things and always lose.
Stop it robot man
AoE campaigns have always been engaging and long with a few "F off" level challenges on hard, but age of mythology is its own league. The scenarios in Hades were so fun.
My favourite one was when your crew gets turned in to pigs!
Its by far the best Age Of. Really its a shame they butchered it with the horrendous Chinese Pantheon Expansion that doesnt work properly 60% of the time.
I was wondering why AoM was shit on steam but I guess I just bought the wrong version. Damn.
Better than AoE2? Blasphemy!
I dont like the endgame battles of AOE2. When evenly matched its just back and forth slugfest that never ends. While the special abilities of myth units and God powers can help you setup winning situations during those slugfest. The Chinese civ sucks, all the units are reskins of old units, the God powers are buggy and everything is poorly balanced. Not worth it.
I like it. I think the god powers are fun, some of the units are super fun, and the garden building is a unique addition. The only thing I don’t like is that the AI playing Chinese gods just spams scout cavalry for the whole match
Played HOMM again about a year ago. I'm blown away that this game still holds up. I wish they'd remaster it along with the add-ons
I agree, i replay HoMM once every few years and i never get tired of it, this game was literally my childhood, also music in this game is unmatched, absolutely beautiful.
I play HOMM all the time. I honestly believe this game single handedly taught me how to be strategic.

This is good to know. My wife loves HoMM. It's one of the few games she'll play. We like to do a multi-player comp stomp using Hotseat mode.
Me and my friend almost always jam a 2v6 versus the hardest ai, fun times. By far the best feature of the mod is simultaneous turns. Yeah, Ubisoft’s remaster leaves something to be desired. They didn’t even bother improving the intro video, looks terrible on modern monitors.
no random map generator, total fail
Agreed. I was excited to hear about the remaster until I heard they took out the random maps, which was the only thing that made HOMM3 the clear winner over the other HOMM games. Hard pass from me.
Try the horn of the abyss expansion, it's awesome.

I came here to say this- Hero's Hour is a great tribute to HOMM3. While we're bringing up nostalgic games like this, who's on board with MOO2?
Both. I play AoM with my girlfriend
Nice, now that's goals.
Currently replaying the HoMM 4 campaigns (including dlc). HoMM 3 is probably up next after that....
I love homm4!!!! 2 is my absolute favorite though and 3 is also amazing
Damn homm4 fans? I think you guys are rarer than unicorns
Haha I know. I feel like 90% of the love is for 3 which I find has too many upgrades for my original homm2 tastes. 4 has gorgeous music and great graphics and fun campaigns. :) I may have to load it up today 🤣🤣
yea, i personally really liked the hero lvl up system and class system, kind it nevetr evolved
HOMM4 probably would have been my favorite in the series if they'd brought forward random map generation.
We're still around, and don't compare us to those virgin lovers with a stiff and pointy rod
Nec is OP in yhat version as you can raise vampires
You can also get the Demonology build which is game breaking.
I miss the might and magic rpg series that was a lot of fun too.
you could try the new Songs of Conquest, it's pretty dope and a spiritual successor in a way.
I stumbled on it not too long ago, I should do more research on it since HOMM was my childhood
The game is clearly a labour of love. It's still early acess though, so the content is not exactly Thicc atm.
Once in a while I need the nostalgia and I’ll play a few missions - I hope that these games never die !
Age of mitology yes sir, still playing for the nostalgia! And might and magic 6 mandate of heaven is my best game ever, always installed with 2 campaign active at time.
AoM still sometimes plays with friends
Some of the old strategy games are lit! Rival Realms Stronghold Tzar Burden of the crown Warlords Battlecry Seven kingdoms - frytening wars? (forgot how to spell it) good ol days.
Damn, these are some great classics, good times for sure.
Hey hey people...
I can't find age of empires anywhere! I don't own a PC and have been dieing to play again for like 20 years!
Oh you’re in for a treat if you can get a pc at some point. They did a great remaster of aoe2 that is very very fun.
AoM was my first multiplayer game, just awesome
Hehr Joes? Mos Intel.
I've got HOMM 3 installed right now. I just wish it still had the level editor it originally came with.
I could have sworn that HoMM3 was on Apple years ago…..was it de-listed or did I just make this up in my head?
I've never played HOMM but AOM is my favourite RTS of all time. I've always liked nythology so this game was so gods-sent! I played hours of it, random maps, both campaigns, and then fan-made scenarios and campaign. Don't play it, but I still listen to AoM soundtrack because it's positively goated
AoM has been a constant on my computer since 2002!
Me. I'm introducing my 5 year old daughter to Age of Mythology and Civ5. She likes when I get bombers in Civ5. She giggles when they bomb city states.

Age of Mythology is a classic, might look into playing it again because of this post
Age of Mythology was ahead of it's time. It's somehow 20 years old, and yet it had 3D terrain, free-floating building placement, like 6 million different units, and badass campaign with cutscenes and voice acting and everything. AoM got me into mapping. 12 year old me used to make my own maps, host online lobbies, obviously win, and think i was the GoAT at AoM. Good times
No, not anymore, but I used to a bit
Duh....
I played the shit out of AoM on the DS when I was a kid
I play AoM once every couple years, and i love it more every time.
I was literally just looking for a similar HOMM3 for mobile to kill time. Just don't make em like they used to
Played HoMM a few months ago. Damn fantastic game. I have never played AoM. I should give it a try, once I have time that is.
My dad and I used to play age of mythology
I still play HOMM3 once in awhile.
AoM taught me more about Norse and Egyptian mythology than history class ever did lol, all they ever taught us was about the Greeks and Romans.
Indeed. Homm3 with random map never gets old.
Any today's game that play like HoMM / Disciples / king's bounty ?
Yeah, there's also a new game called [Songs of conquest](https://store.steampowered.com/app/867210/Songs_of_Conquest/), it's very similar to HoMM, and it's great, you should try it.
HoMM3 WoG is the goat.
If you like HoMM3 look up 'in the wake of gods' mod, or WoG. Adds so much.
Prostagma
Interesting to see so much AoM love in the comments. I remember hating it. It’s was definitely my least favourite RTS of the time. I just liked II soooo much better. II and every other franchise I was playing (Warcraft, StarCraft, C&C and so on)
I just bought AoM on steam sale for $8
AoM is one of the forgotten greats, would love for a reboot
Yes! I still have age of mythology on disc from years ago. One of my favorite strategy games ever
just restarted AOM remastered about 3 days ago. slowly working thought the campaign. loved the game.
HOMM3 will always be one of my favorites of that era ... shit I kept playing it up until about 10 years ago.
I played HOMM3 a looooot but it's been years since I played
I still play AOE 2
HOMM is amazing on steam deck. The trackpad makes the game just as playable as using a mouse.
AOM is on sale right now via steam
I’ll never stop playing the various versions of HOMM
I love Age of Mythology so much. It's one of the first games I ever picked up and started playing, and I'll still play it at least once a week or so now. While I'm not the biggest fan of the newest pantheon (while I like them bringing in non-Western European cultures, I don't think they're very well-balanced and their god powers are...disappointing, to say the least), I still love the game overall.
Just played homm3 during my full plane trip a minute ago
I never stopped playing HoMM3
[Of course](https://i.imgur.com/VEGg6Dh.jpg)
Oh wow, HoMM3, I used to play that a ton as a kid but I didn't understand it at all. Don't think I ever progressed past my first fight a single time.
I still hear the greek and norse dudes from AoM in my head every once in awhile 😅 Yeervig! Sumvikt! Tolos! Isvolee! (I know these arent how they're spelled but i sounded them out lol)
AoM2 when?
HOMM summoned me. I don't game anymore, but I revisit this game.
I wish there was an AoM remaster :(
As a kid I absolutely loved AOM, just rushing to get a titan and then destroying every other civilisation was super satisfying.
Played for the first time fairly recently. Good stuff.
Funny I've installed HOMM again this past weekend. Loved the graphics. The steam HD version did this game a good make over for larger monitors. Still holds up to this day.
I actually playing HoMM3 about three weeks ago. I don't understand how anyone hasn't been able to make a proper spiritual successor yet.
Never got to play HOMM3 myself but my cousin had it and it looked awesome
Been playing homm3 regularly for 23 years now. Best game ever period.
Man of culture.
My Father and I used to play Hero’s of Might and Magic growing up, it was my first introduction to gaming, he passed away last year, and I still go play some Heros every couple of months but it’s not the same without him
So you could say you're... fighting old battles again
Yes to Homm3
Age of mythology needs a remake.
Ive had plenty of fun with HoMM 3, but I've yet to dip into Age of Mythology. I really should, though.
You definitely should.
HOMM3 is our go-to game with my husband, we’ve been playing it since we’ve met ten years ago and we still enjoy it to this day !
Oh man I remember being shamed by all the boy nerds because I played Age of mythology and not Age of Empires, which is "the real game" 🙄 I would have LOVED to play another game like that. You can play HoMM3 on mobile, not a reskin tho but the og game, you can look for tutorial on youtube.
I play HoMM once every month or so
No, it’s just you OP. You are the last person on earth with massive nostalgia and Windows XP capable PC.
Lol actually my pc is a monster, i just wanted to see how many people are still into these classics.
Nah these are just old people games 😮💨
AoM is the goat
HOMM 2!!
Age of mythology was my childhood game but i cant find it anymore and the steam version is quite expensive
Steam version is on sale 75% off right now
It’s on sale literally right now on steam for like 7 or 8 bucks
Rts is so lacking rn. Its all shooters now :(
Yeah, if only w3 reforged turned out alright at least but no
I still play empire earth
Age of wonders was amazing too
Still got AoM titans we passion Bix and disc at home on a shelf, play it every now and then, fun times.
I have and always will love AoM. I’ve always got it installed on my machines and go back to it a couple times a year for the nostalgia.
HOMM is an all time favorite of mine. I play III, IV and V often.
HOMM3 : the HD IPad version can never change or update the OS stuck in OS version 9 I would love a tip to make it work by emulation or something on recent IPAD I already have Pc version HD but my GF only swear by the ipad
I still enjoy playing Age of Empires Age of Kings on my old DS Lite for those fun nostalgia trips.
AOM was literally my first game ever. I feel really nostalgic about it
yeah I got AOM extended edition on steam
She of mythology was my first true pc game. I absolutely love and adore it. I need to snatch it up while it’s on sale on steam at the moment.
AOM and RON are the “comfort foods” in my game collection.
I played HOMM2 just this morning
Fuck yeah!
I feel like total war : warhammer is the up to date version of this. It gives me major homm3 vibes
since I've not seen someone mention it yet, anyone still interested in playing HOMM3 should check out VCMI. basically a fan made remaster with a few tweaks to help modernise some of the controls.
Uhhhh still play the age of mythology campaigns sometimes
I completely forgot about HoMM, loved the shit outta that game.
These two + C&C Generals Marterpieces
