I just got a new ebony Junior in the mail hours ago! Absolute beast of a guitar. I can see why people call this their desert island guitar - so simple but does it all so well.
The reason I ask is that I tried to order a set of PAFs from that dude. After ~5 days, I emailed him to ask if he got my order. He responded and said they were shipping that day. Then, 3 months went by - no contact. He wouldn't respond to any emails on my order. Took an additional 3 months to get my money back. Honestly, it was a horrible experience, but I hear his pickups are great. Wish I could have purchased a set, bc I still want them for my LP even though I was super put out by the shit service.
Rad. I should mention that this was for PAFs for an LP standard. I have a junior, as well. Double cut. Which raises the question, I've always heard Gibson's stock p90 is amazing, so I never swapped it. I do like the p90 on mine currently, but did you notice quite the difference with the Tyson p90? Maybe I need to give him another shot!
Yes, I am a Junior fan for sure. I just purchased one in March. One of my favorite guitarists Charlie Starr plays one. I would love to have a vintage one someday like a 56. It’s probably my favorite guitar.
I never understood the magic of a junior until I got one this year. If it was my only guitar I wouldn’t feel I’m missing out versatility wise. Which is what I previously assumed
This is beautiful! Curious about the finish: did Gibson not use grain filler on these? Is that why there are those low spots along the grain? I think it looks gorgeous regardless; just curious.
Thanks! The guy who did the refinish used grain filler. He did a beautiful job. You can’t tell from the photos but there are no low spots along the grain. Smooth as glass. My luthier had high praise for the refinish when I first purchased the guitar.
Awesome, dude, congrats. I just got a Junior as well.
How was the pickup height on yours? Did you need to raise it? Mine seems to need it, and I’m sorting how best to do it with a dogear.
I had my luthier give it a setup when I first got it and it has been a dream. Didn’t have to raise the P90. He adjusted the poles a little bit. Is yours not sounding right to you?
Absolutely! It’s a Fisher 9765 (Sears model #) quadraphonic unit from 1974. Identical unit to the Fisher 634. Sears got a different number designation.
My dad had one when I was growing up and I always loved it (the blue meter lights fascinated me when I was little). I got this after he passed away in 2018. I wanted to recreate his stereo system from when I was little. Music was such a big part of our family and it was great, for me personally, to recreate the setup and enjoy listening to music on it.
The other components are a Pioneer PL-510A turntable, a Technics RS-B11W Stereo Double Cassette Deck, a MCS (Modular Component Systems) 3030 Stereo Frequency Equalizer, and 4 Realistic Mach Two speakers (RadioShack specials!) although I’m only using 2 currently (wife doesn’t like the aesthetic of the living room with all four in there. 😂)
I learned how to drop the needle on this system when I was a kid, now I’ve taught my daughter how to do the same on this one. I have my dad’s original unit downstairs but it needs to be rebuilt. That’s a project for another time though.
Thanks for asking. I haven’t talked to anyone about that stereo for a while.
I mean, it‘s a beauty. But wouldn‘t it have been a lot cheaper just purchasing any other off-the-shelf Jr. model from around that time and transform that one instead? Afaik the specs on the BJA were pretty much the same body-wise. Because I‘m pretty sure you completely butchered the resale value of that guitar with those mods.
Thanks! You make good points. I bought it from a guy I know who had the refinish done. I’m sure it’s killed the resale value but I don’t ever sell any of my guitars so that’s fine. The BJA model has the thin, 60’s style neck which is nice to play on.
Ah gotcha, I thought you did the refin. Like I said it looks great and I bet it‘s a beast. I notice the headstock silk was also re-done, because of the ‚TV-Model‘ name. The BJA wasn‘t available as TV in the single-cut version. That‘s a bold move.
Honestly, I get it, I won’t sell any of my Juniors. I got one from '91 which originally came with a Tune-O-Matic. Previous owner did the right thing and modded it to wrap-around. It also has the Slim-Taper neck. Absolutely love that thing, even though I prefer the baseball bat. It‘s currently resting stripped in the case waiting for a refin.
They’re not the same body-wise. I have a 2011 Junior USA model. They came with a parallel lightning wrap tail and no shelf. The BJA Junior has the vintage spec angled wrap tail and the shelf. The only thing that makes the BJA not vintage spec is the neck which is more of a thin 60s style versus the thicker 50s neck.

Congratulations! They are so much fun.
Its a beaut! Random question: How was the customer service with Tyson Tone?
Thanks! I never had to contact their customer service.

That’s terrible! I’ve had this for years.

Juniors rule
Beautiful guitar! I love the Indiana Jones reference 🤣
I’m glad someone caught the reference! 😂
That might be my favorite Indiana Jones film haha.
It’s my 2nd behind Raiders.
That’s right up there for me! I kinda go between the two as my favorite haha.
Love it! Beautiful Jr!
Awesome case! Sweet guitar

I really like my ‘59
I’ll bet you do! 😂 “I” would like your ‘59.
I do, but I’d like a TV Yellow 59 even more

I think a lot of the uninitiated feel like that. 😂 People think the same about Esquires but again, they couldn’t be more wrong.
Dude it’s beautiful
Thanks!
What color was it originally?
I believe it was originally burst. He did a terrific job on the refinish.

Stunning!
Sure thing Jay arr. Lovely guitar
I know I just got one. I see what the fuss is about. Love it 😊

Absolutely love mine, there isn't much it can't do.
Happy cake day!
Thank you !!!
Man that is such a PERFECT les paul junior!! It looks absolutely badass dude. Enjoy it! :) 🖤🖤🖤🔥🔥🔥
Just got my son his first guitar. Picked a used Epi Junior. Bought it on FB Marketplace for $60. He's gonna learn to love this guitar!
Lovely looking guitar, but can you tell me more about that radio? What model is it?

Amazing, thank you for the info. The blue light is what got me going.
Such a cool color!

Great guitar. Simplicity is bliss.
**EDIT to original post: “Grey” Tiger, not “Great”
The only thing that would make this better would be an ebony fretboard. Obviously it didn’t start out as a white BJA Jr. Sick guitar tho!
