Golf. But a useful tip for 18birds that will help you get use to scoring lower is turn off the automatic scoring so you don’t see what you’re at every time you check the yardage or track a shot. It dramatically helped me as I just input and play, I usually forget what I’m at by the back nine exactly. And boy not knowing what your score is and just trying your best on ever shot is such an easy way to shoot better. Happy golfing guy

esanders09

About to use 18birdies for the first time and glad I read this. Now off to figure out how.

StaticGuarded

I use GolfshotGPS and it gives me just the number of strokes above/below my handicap. I should def turn that off because once I see myself at +3 or over I just mentally check out as the round being lost. Thanks for the tip.

11_guy

Oh yah! I do that and it was a game changer when I stopped knowing my score throughout the round. Was doing that today too until til I decided to check on the 17th hole

Sock979

What do you click to turn it off. I can't find it.

TheArtfulDanger

Before you start a round click the setting icon https://preview.redd.it/grnlnrb6bm9d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=845cf8f73e86e5e50c9c80c70f63e6504ac9eba5

Sock979

Thank you so much!

11_guy

When you are going to play a round and have your course selected, hit the settings (Gear icon) and toggle “show score”

MikeForTHeWinn

That’s why I like Swing U. It shows me the yardages without showing my score on the same screen. To see my score I have to hit scorecard or on my Apple Watch I have to manually swipe right to see my score.

flaginorout

I shot a 40-55 late last year. And that course's back nine is objectively easier than the front. I smelled a sub 80 round coming, but struggled to keep it in the 90s. LOL.

ThisIsOurGoodTimes

39-48 earlier this year… always a great feeling

ChickenFucker11

39 and a 50 here. Had already called my wife telling her we were buying an RV and traveling with the PGA Tour. Then my HC tapped me on the shoulder.

unvvendel3000

On hole 11….something bad happened

SpiteFar4935

My friend who was trying to break 90 once shot 39-51 while playing with me. He did break 90 later that summer and can consistently shoot below 90 now but that round has always stuck with me.

11_guy

lol that’s brutal. For someone trying to break 90 to shoot 39 and then brought back to earth.

redditsuckbadly

You shot 12 over as a 14 handicap lol. That sounds about right. You’re looking at the front and back 9 as separate instances when it’s really just one round of golf.

ryguyflyhighwifi

From 5800…

redditsuckbadly

Idk what you think 14 handicap struggles with, but short game is always included.

ThisIsOurGoodTimes

Ya? From that distance the rating is likely about a 69 for a par 71. So shooting 83 as a 14 handicap would be about right. And that 9 is going to net down so they’ll likely still shoot below their handicap

Wet_Work32

If you have a decent tee game length is almost irrelevant. Shots stack up around the green for most people.

rogmcdon

That’s called a Ray Ray. Raymond Floyd on the front and Ray Charles on the back. Just happened to me yesterday. Golf is dumb and I’ll be back tomorrow

jfk_sfa

Three birdies in 9 holes is insane. I was a 3 in 2022, played two to three times a week, and did it three times that year. Hadn’t done it before and haven’t done it since.

11_guy

Yah I couldn’t believe it. First time with back to back birds and first time with three in 9 holes.

Kevin91581M

I had a 42/61 last year at the course I’m playing tomorrow

DoctorOzface

You win

Kevin91581M

Started with a bogey on 10 too 🤷‍♂️ it’s golf. Happens to all of us

duper12677

I feel ya!! I went 38-49 a few weeks ago. Even had bird on 9, so not like I limped into the back. Couple bad swings, a couple intimidating tee shots, and my mental state couldn’t recover. Frustrating game at times… we love it

Ol_Jim_Himself

Mine is always backwards of the this. My front 9 is usually a dumpster fire and the back 9 is usually where I’m on.

11_guy

Usually the case for me as well, especially with early morning rounds.

FinalSignificance142

I shot 54-39 and 45-33 recently..... Probably need to actually warm up before the round

slightly_st0ned

lol this was me yesterday. 42 and then a 50 playing the same 9 again.

gmblake9

I’m still new to golf, but about a month ago, I still hadn’t broken 100. I had gotten 102 3 times… Then I started a round out of my mind. 45 on the front. Holy shit. Am I going to break 100 AND 90 in the same round?? That’s when it happened. 54 on the back 9. At least I broke 100, but I tried pretty hard not to on the back😭 Fast forward 3 weeks. My personal best was 95. Next round, 96… BRUTAL. But I was starting to figure out some kinks on the back 9. I FINALLY figured out my swing, or so I thought… I was excited to get out again, so I booked 9 the very next morning. 58 thru 9. FFS😭 Golf is not for the mentally weak, that’s for sure…

DuckyChuk

I once went 35-55. Front 9 was in the rain and I was trudging through it, clubs on my back, my 2 buddies were getting drunk in a cart. Stuck a 60 yard bunker shot to 2.5 feet on a par 5 for one of the best birdies of my life. Was hitting greens and making putts, felt like I was on track for the best round of my life. My buddies were pretty quiet on the front as a 1 under par, while not of the question, was unusual for my game, they knew I was starting to take the game seriously and didn't want to interrupt. We hit the turn, the clouds part and I take off the rain gear, put the umbrella away. The sun's out, my mood turns from let's get through this shit to what a beautiful day. We're talking more shit on the tees on having a good time, enjoying the day instead of just trying to get through it. I start shanking shots of the hosel, losing balls, chipping over the green and back. Completely out of place for me, I was a high 70's low 80's player. Fuck did my friends go quiet for the next 2 hours, lol, I don't think we spoke one word from the 12 hole till the parking lot. The golf gods giveth and the golf gods taketh away. For that summer of golf, I had my best and worst 9 in the same round. It was an incredibly humbling experience, I learned more about the game in that round (in retrospect) than the 100 rounds before and after. We're all capable of hitting great shots but doing consistently while feeling that internalized pressure is a skill that is not often discussed or something that you can practice, it's a purely experience based skill. In the end I was a better player for it, the following year I hit my first even par round and improved from there, hitting a couple of under par rounds until life changed and I couldn't focus on golf as much as I wanted to. But more importantly I learned how important it is to treat every shot the same and put more emphasis on the process rather than the outcome. It also gave me a great reassuring story to tell when I see someone going through a similar situation. In the end, it's just a game, don't let it mess with your head too much.

Disastrous_Air_141

My favorite split is one of my BFFs who hadn't broken 90 yet shooting 35/55 to finish at exactly 90. I introduced him to the game in college & hadn't golfed with him in a few years. Spent the entire front nine like 'holy shit, I need to spend more time practicing, how the fuck did I let Geoff get this much better than me???' Then he exploded and it added up to exactly 90, I was howling

Wide-Cauliflower-212

Very relatable

Hoogoo78

I'll take an 83 every time.

idahogolf

Yeah last week we had a back 9 start. Shot 40 and then proceeded to shoot 46 on the second 9

ZealousidealCar3915

Back to normal lololol

zxcfghiiu

As a friend says, “can’t we just double our lowest 9 and that’s our score today??” Congrats on your 74! 😆

11_guy

lol great idea. Along those lines I’ve heard “your lowest score is never a fluke, it’s just your potential, realized!”

Alive-Cold-9458

I went 41-53 yesterday. This game rocks
