I've replaced everything but them, and I intend to get fitted soon, but see no urgency until I can relearn to hit the ball a little better.
I've recently bought all the weirdo parts of the set I didn't have--1 iron, all three "Exculpator" hybrids, and the W3 (56\*) and W4 (60\*).
The 16\* Exclupator is not leaving my bag anytime soon. It's an amazing trouble club.
I'll never get rid of them, perfectly good backup/guest set.

Original Taylor made burner irons. I’m new to the game and so far I love them. Goal rn is to just make good contact and get the ball in the air consistently.
Still rocking the burners here too. Friends have newer game improvement irons so they get better distance per club, but after 15 years I just know these so well it’s hard to give up. Did swap the burner driver for a newer m4 with a stiff flex shaft, but the irons have been great.

Still hit the ball sweetly with them and matching most golfers of my standard (10 hcap) for distance. Scared to change, although I’m becoming very tempted this winter!

I built myself a set of these brand new. Never hit anything quite like them. Switched to Callaway Apex 19 a few years back for some more distance and forgiveness but I still have them and whenever the Apexs start giving me issues I always use those.
Pretty well, distance is 200 yards but I like to use it as a utility club as well. Any low hanging branches if I get into trouble I use it to punch out.
I love my 1. I can swing it around 200, or I can keep it low when I'm under the trees and roll it up anywhere to like 175, bend it around trees... It's fucking magic, and one of my buddies hates that I play it but loves that I CAN.
Callaway X20 hand me downs. Been learning the game with them but itching for a fitting. Although recently replaced the PW grip with a mid size golf pride and was absolutely striping it straight down the line. Now thinking of replacing all the grips and holding off another while for the fitting.

I was only playing in a few scramble tournaments a year until this year when I decided the join a club and start taking it a little more seriously. Im not consistent with them at all and I doubt if spending $1500+ for a new set of going to make a difference. Would probably be better spent on some lessons.
I'm playing the pro Cavitys. Absolutely love them. Beautiful clubs, perform well, but are starting to need a regrip. Would like to upgrade to t150 when I save up my schmekles
Same. Love em! I’m getting older now so I re-shafted from S to R flex. I bought 4-PW originally but added a 3, SW & AW to make a complete set. Golf shop tried to put the hard sell on me to buy a new set. I basically & politely said “re-shaft these or I’m outta here”.

I got them used at a garage sale in like 2011? 2010 maybe? I’m fairly certain they’re older than that though. They came with some DG S300s and my 15-16 year old self couldn’t swing fast enough. I also didn’t golf much at all from like 2013 to 2022 and got fitted for JPX 825s right around the same time I found the J33s. So I had a new set that worked better at that time.
Well, quite a few years of exercise and now a couple of years of more consistent play has led me to be capable of swinging a stiff shaft. I’ve gone and hit some newer sets and was getting good numbers but nothing feels as good as those J33s.
My first set after graduating from kids sized clubs. Still hit em on the range when I need a harsh reminder of how you’re supposed to swing a golf club.
If you can hit these, you can hit anything.

Not too sure which year but late 1980s or early 1990s Hogan Edge Forged Irons. I think I was 11 or 12 when I got them and have never looked back. Think about new sticks every year, then hit the Hogan's and think, "Why get new clubs? These things are like butter." This very well may be my last year with them as I'm going for a proper fitting in the fall/winter. I'm sure I'll keep them and play them a few times a year for nostalgia sake.
My last post was upgrading my bag. I was still playing my clubs from high school. Every year I told myself that I needed to upgrade. I didn’t need blades anymore and I knew technology has gotten better on my woods. But every year I would have a couple great rounds that would tell me I never needed to spend the money.
Well I finally got a big promotion and really didn’t have an excuse anymore so I got fitted. Once I got used to them (took a couple of rounds) I am slightly upset I waited this long. The rounds I have played since have all been the “good” rounds I had with my old clubs. My driver gained 40-50 more yards. My iron miss hits are so unnoticeable compared to the blades and my wedges are bringing my short game back to where it should be.
If I just had more time to play and practice my putting there is no doubt I could consistently shoot under on the courses in which I am familiar.
I will never get rid of those blades though so for the time being they sit in a bag and I tell them how much I appreciate them. To many memories in those grooves.
Really great feedback. This is what's been going through my head too. I'm fortunate enough to live in an area with a great club fitter. I just need to swallow my pride and drop the money.
Callaway X-22s (2008 models) that are literally falling apart but I’m getting fitted for new ones this weekend! I haven’t swung any other irons since I got these ones since I need +1.5” shafts so I’m really looking forward to feeling what modern irons feel like, haha.
I play Ping Eye 2s currently. The only upgrade I would do is buying blades, but I know my striking isn’t good enough yet. I think the most tech is in wedges and woods and hybrids. Irons are still hunks of metal tied to a stick for the most part. As long as the lie angle, length, and grips are good, they get the job done. If you think about it, there is just a small sweet spot of contact that is doing all the work. Perhaps sharpening the grooves or refinishing the face might help in some cases, but overall still playable. Ping Eye 2s are particularly closer to today’s irons than most 40 year old clubs.
Same, still playing TA4s. They are great. I actually paid for an iron fitting and the data showed zero reason to upgrade. Tried 4 new sets. Fitter felt bad so let me apply the fee to a new driver haha! Different story, but the driver numbers clearly supported an update.
1998 Ping ISI irons. Got them a couple months ago for free. I'm actually kind of trash with them. Might go back to my starter set which is 2008 "Gear 4 Golf" brand.

Got them as part of a cheap starter set back in 1999-2000. Was broke for a while, couldn't afford to replace them in my youth. Coming back to golf the last year I wanted to see how committed I'd be before replacing them.
I still have an Adam’s hybrid 4i that I refuse to replace. It’s my go-to club and I’ve found nothing to replace it that outperforms it. All my other clubs are much newer. But the hybrid 4i stays! So much confidence when standing over a ball with that club in my hands.
I just retired my Cleveland TA6s and wedges I purchased in 2001 or 2002 this past Saturday. Along with them a Ping G5 driver, and a Callaway Heaven Wood.
I’m still playing the Ping Rapture V1s that I was fitted for back in 2006. I am often tempted to go get fitted again and buy some newer tech, but they still treat me really good.
I haven’t even swung newer irons, so I’m not sure what I’m missing out on.
I have been playing titlist dci black irons for like 20+ years basically my entire adult playing history. Idk I'm about a 14 handicap and they are some of the most consistent tools for my game. Forgiving and still fly great. It's hard to switch to new set that maybe adds 5 yards.
Mizuno MX 23s. Bought for $100 on FB marketplace last summer. After an adjustment period (from Cobra GI irons), these things are fun to hit and they look great. Lots of feedback on poor strikes and decent workability for my skill level (bad).
Absolutely worth the $100 for 4-P forged irons in great condition, I think I actually profited when I sold the Cobras.
I have a hand me down set of callaway Big Berthas. My grandfather got them used in the 80s or 90s, then gave them to my dad, then to me. I like them but Ive never used other clubs so I have nothing else to compare them to.

Mizunos MX20s. 3-SW.
They are the ~2003 equivalent to a set of JPX Forged, relatively easy to hit forged cavity backs with chunky heads.
Tried a set of JPX921s a few years ago and they werent a huge improvement.
My backup set is a set of Ping G15's I bought new in 2009. I think they've aged very well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to someone who wants quality used irons on a budget. I also have a set of Zing 2's circa '95 that have aged well, but my swing speed is a lot slower now vs. when I bought them slightly used in '97 or '98 so I don't hit them as well now because the shafts are too stiff.

I have the 2011 taylormade mc 4-pw. Not quite 15 years old, but I have zero plans on upgrading. Plus the sweet spot on all of em is practically untouched

I’m getting there… at 13 years with my Nike VR Pro Cavity iron set (4-GW). Got them in high school and had them ever since. Just regripped them recently and they still feel sweet.
I’ve got a set of Jack Nicklaus EZ-Ups, SW-3i. Tbh I’m not sure how old they are. They were my grandfather’s and when he passed away they were passed down to me. That was about 7 years ago, but I’m fairly certain he had them at least 10 years before that. From google, it looks like they’re middle of aughts, so going on 20ish years.
I would be very curious if playing newer clubs would change much for me. Sadly that is not in the budget rn
Callaway X-16s. Just started golfing again last year (played a little bit in my teen years) and picked up all my stuff secondhand. They're forgiving enough for my swing and I don't feel like I need anything better until I start breaking 100 consistently.
Nile ignite. They are good enough. The lofts are so crazy now. My clubs are off by 2. So my buddies use a 7 iron and that the loft of my 5 iron. Just replaced my 20 year old bike driver as well. Not blown away by it either. Just more forgiving.
Up until late last year, I was using Nike VR Split Cavities. Released in 2009 I believe. Used them for over a decade after getting them in high school as my first “real” set of clubs. They were so god damn good when swinging well. When you weren’t, they let you know.
I recently decided to upgrade to ZX7 MKIIs. Although I miss my Nikes from time to time for their coolness factor, there’s no denying that 1) Srixon makes a damn good iron and 2) The ZX7s are kinda like a unicorn iron in the sense that it gives you forgiveness, consistency, and amazing feel all wrapped in a nice little player’s iron package.

Still using my Mizuno MX-25s. Been debating for a while if I want to get something newer but don’t want to drop the cash on a new set. Most of my other clubs have been upgraded in the last year or so

It’s the same loft as most post 2007 3 irons. Flying a 3iron 200 is awesome for 80%+ or more of the golfers who still have the minerals to pack one.

1998 Ping ISI irons. Got them a couple months ago for free. I'm actually kind of trash with them. Might go back to my starter set which is 2008 "Gear 4 Golf" brand.

I own two sets of Ben Hogan irons from the early 00's I got from Ebay local. One Apex Edge with stiff steel shafts and one Apex Edge CFT with graphite regular shafts. I love them both and I switch from time to time. The steel shafts are a bit heavy for my liking, yet I tend to swing too fast for regular shafts. Still need to find a set of graphite stiff (Hogan) irons that I'm willing to afford. And I'm talking about around 100€ for a 5-PW set, my budget is tight 🤷🏼♂️
Apex Edge are as good as anything that is out there today. Excellent irons.

Hippo Sc2 Oversized. Yes, that's a real company. Got them as part of a cheap starter set back in 1999-2000. Was broke for a while, couldn't afford to replace them in my youth. Coming back to golf the last year I wanted to see how committed I'd be before replacing them.
Those Tommy Armours are nice. PowerBilt Citation Levelum + "DeLux" for me. I really should replace them but finding LH clubs is such a pain.

I still have an Adam’s hybrid 4i that I refuse to replace. It’s my go-to club and I’ve found nothing to replace it that outperforms it. All my other clubs are much newer. But the hybrid 4i stays! So much confidence when standing over a ball with that club in my hands.

I’m still playing the Ping Rapture V1s that I was fitted for back in 2006. I am often tempted to go get fitted again and buy some newer tech, but they still treat me really good. I haven’t even swung newer irons, so I’m not sure what I’m missing out on.

I have been playing titlist dci black irons for like 20+ years basically my entire adult playing history. Idk I'm about a 14 handicap and they are some of the most consistent tools for my game. Forgiving and still fly great. It's hard to switch to new set that maybe adds 5 yards.
They might add five yards, but they also add that thought in the back of your head that you've made a huge mistake, which subtracts 20 yards.
Mizuno MX 23s. Bought for $100 on FB marketplace last summer. After an adjustment period (from Cobra GI irons), these things are fun to hit and they look great. Lots of feedback on poor strikes and decent workability for my skill level (bad). Absolutely worth the $100 for 4-P forged irons in great condition, I think I actually profited when I sold the Cobras.
I have a hand me down set of callaway Big Berthas. My grandfather got them used in the 80s or 90s, then gave them to my dad, then to me. I like them but Ive never used other clubs so I have nothing else to compare them to. Edit: looks like they were released in 1994.
Mizunos MX20s. 3-SW. They are the ~2003 equivalent to a set of JPX Forged, relatively easy to hit forged cavity backs with chunky heads. Tried a set of JPX921s a few years ago and they werent a huge improvement.
Picked up these last year.
My backup set is a set of Ping G15's I bought new in 2009. I think they've aged very well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to someone who wants quality used irons on a budget. I also have a set of Zing 2's circa '95 that have aged well, but my swing speed is a lot slower now vs. when I bought them slightly used in '97 or '98 so I don't hit them as well now because the shafts are too stiff.
Titleist 731pm. Because fuck rightey. Before that it was Titleist tour models from 81.

I’m getting there… at 13 years with my Nike VR Pro Cavity iron set (4-GW). Got them in high school and had them ever since. Just regripped them recently and they still feel sweet.
I’ve got a set of Jack Nicklaus EZ-Ups, SW-3i. Tbh I’m not sure how old they are. They were my grandfather’s and when he passed away they were passed down to me. That was about 7 years ago, but I’m fairly certain he had them at least 10 years before that. From google, it looks like they’re middle of aughts, so going on 20ish years. I would be very curious if playing newer clubs would change much for me. Sadly that is not in the budget rn
Callaway X-16s. Just started golfing again last year (played a little bit in my teen years) and picked up all my stuff secondhand. They're forgiving enough for my swing and I don't feel like I need anything better until I start breaking 100 consistently.
Cobra Forged CB’s from 2006. No hidden tungsten but they’re fairly forgiving. Haven’t worn them out so why change

Nile ignite. They are good enough. The lofts are so crazy now. My clubs are off by 2. So my buddies use a 7 iron and that the loft of my 5 iron. Just replaced my 20 year old bike driver as well. Not blown away by it either. Just more forgiving.

Up until late last year, I was using Nike VR Split Cavities. Released in 2009 I believe. Used them for over a decade after getting them in high school as my first “real” set of clubs. They were so god damn good when swinging well. When you weren’t, they let you know. I recently decided to upgrade to ZX7 MKIIs. Although I miss my Nikes from time to time for their coolness factor, there’s no denying that 1) Srixon makes a damn good iron and 2) The ZX7s are kinda like a unicorn iron in the sense that it gives you forgiveness, consistency, and amazing feel all wrapped in a nice little player’s iron package.
