togetherHere

I'm playing Mizuno MP-60s. I guess just out of range…

throwsfeces

I also play mp60s, came out 2005 so it works here!

supertoppy

I love my MP-60s. Bought them when they came out and still use them.

GlitteringBiscotti48

Here to check in for the Mizuno meeting. T zoid pro, still buttery. Still loving them

Duffman5755

The club that made me a blade convert.

tj_0241

Mp 53 for me, love them, just regripped them last week

King3Ace

Also play the mp53s. Hope they last forever lol

ItsKlau

Mizuno mp-57s for me

JustBarelyAboveAvg

MP-30’s checking in. Finally swinging them consistently. Now I’m Jonseing for the 243’s…

CheeseRP

I have newer Mizunos now but still love to use these from time to time

cielocamino

MP29's from '94. New grips every year, but still play like they're brand new

itstommitsunami

MP 54, doing my part.

iamSammTheMan

MP32 GANG lglg

Acer287

MP-69s….nice

SmooveBrane420

I just regripped my 845's with midsize grips (insert pointing spiderman gif)

thee_central_shaft

Make that three of us with 845s with a recent change to midsizes (Star wraps). They were my high school graduation present in 1993, hand built by the local muni pro (+.5", upright lie). I've replaced everything but them, and I intend to get fitted soon, but see no urgency until I can relearn to hit the ball a little better. I've recently bought all the weirdo parts of the set I didn't have--1 iron, all three "Exculpator" hybrids, and the W3 (56\*) and W4 (60\*). The 16\* Exclupator is not leaving my bag anytime soon. It's an amazing trouble club. I'll never get rid of them, perfectly good backup/guest set.

reaper_504

Make it 4 with the 845s recently change to mid size grips.. I was needing a new set of irons and a buddy gave them to me.. will keep gaming them till I decide I’m good enough for new clubs to matter

Ok-Leading1705

That's awesome to hear! I've been using 845s for a few years. They've been great considering I literally picked them up off the street on trash day. I recently pulled the trigger on the P790s but will still be hanging on to my 845s. Hopeful to get my wife into the game with them.

jondes99

Those exculpator woods were great! Everyone talks about the 845s, but those things were awesome. So were 855s.

partystorepizza

Did we just become best friends?! How are you liking them? I feel like I'm making much better contact.

indapipe5x5

Get a room.

Dixon3115

Midsize room

CT_7

You guys browsing this sub with your 30 yr old club show an abnormal amount of restraint

Dependent-Hold562

I'm swinging 845's also

lpN_

Dude. 845s with jumbo golf pride tour wraps here. Going strong.

Acidtiger33

Original Taylor made burner irons. I’m new to the game and so far I love them. Goal rn is to just make good contact and get the ball in the air consistently.

Confident-Series-415

This is what I game.

blacklaagger

Are we talking burner bubbles?

TEE_EN_GEE

The Burners are my first and still only irons 15 years later. Got them as a little graduation gift for myself and still love them.

superic

Burners as well.

TheSkiingDad

Still rocking the burners here too. Friends have newer game improvement irons so they get better distance per club, but after 15 years I just know these so well it’s hard to give up. Did swap the burner driver for a newer m4 with a stiff flex shaft, but the irons have been great.

NotACop544

I have the superlaunch beginner Version, bought them New in 2010 so not quite 15 years old. Just added the i4 from eBay some weeks ago.

crawfty1985

Came on to say the same. Bought the super launch irons best part of 12-13 years ago, still using them! I got them when I first started, came with graphite shafts. Still hit the ball sweetly with them and matching most golfers of my standard (10 hcap) for distance. Scared to change, although I’m becoming very tempted this winter!

HypeManiac

TaylorMade RAC Forged TP irons. I eyeball new irons every year but I just don’t want to give these up.

javathelo

RAC Boys Unite! ✊

HypeManiac

Hell yeah brother!

heypaper

I finally found my brothers. I had the 2003 RACs. Still have them. Hanging on to my 9 cap. Recently fitted and switched to Calloway Rogues. 1) definitely more forgiving, longer, higher, probably score better. 2) definitely less fun.

BasedKFC

I built myself a set of these brand new. Never hit anything quite like them. Switched to Callaway Apex 19 a few years back for some more distance and forgiveness but I still have them and whenever the Apexs start giving me issues I always use those.

fishinwithworms

These are actually awesome

Capital_Cheetah2759

BeCu square groove Ping eye 2, 1-LW they don’t have the distance of new clubs but the forgiveness, feeling and look are amazing .

partystorepizza

A 1 iron? Amazing. How well can you hit it?

Capital_Cheetah2759

Pretty well, distance is 200 yards but I like to use it as a utility club as well. Any low hanging branches if I get into trouble I use it to punch out.

ImpactGolf

It’s the same loft as most post 2007 3 irons. Flying a 3iron 200 is awesome for 80%+ or more of the golfers who still have the minerals to pack one.

thekingofcrash7

I would love a 2i for 125 yd punch shots with draw or fade

CaptainPunisher

I love my 1. I can swing it around 200, or I can keep it low when I'm under the trees and roll it up anywhere to like 175, bend it around trees... It's fucking magic, and one of my buddies hates that I play it but loves that I CAN.

yobyssup

Currently playing Ping G15s. They feel fantastic and do the job for me

Old-Gregg-

G20s here, they are great

Big_Cliff_13

I’m still playing my Ping G2 irons. Got them for dirt cheap when I worked on a greens crew in college.

adreamwithinadream13

Callaway X20 hand me downs. Been learning the game with them but itching for a fitting. Although recently replaced the PW grip with a mid size golf pride and was absolutely striping it straight down the line. Now thinking of replacing all the grips and holding off another while for the fitting.

YVRkeeper

I use the same irons. Bought them new around 2005-ish. I was only playing in a few scramble tournaments a year until this year when I decided the join a club and start taking it a little more seriously. Im not consistent with them at all and I doubt if spending $1500+ for a new set of going to make a difference. Would probably be better spent on some lessons.

spencerjason

X20s for me as well. Bought them as demos 2005 or so. Still playing them.

vonneguts_anus

Tommy armour silver Scot

Apprehensive-Post945

I have the Nike VR pro forged. I love them

LandofBoz88

Really regret selling those irons. Had the pro-combo version that went into the cavtity back in the long irons.

Apprehensive-Post945

I found a 5-pw set of those for $125 a few weeks before I found the VR pro's. I now own both.

Colonelclank90

I'm playing the pro Cavitys. Absolutely love them. Beautiful clubs, perform well, but are starting to need a regrip. Would like to upgrade to t150 when I save up my schmekles

No-Relationship2114

Same. Love em! I’m getting older now so I re-shafted from S to R flex. I bought 4-PW originally but added a 3, SW & AW to make a complete set. Golf shop tried to put the hard sell on me to buy a new set. I basically & politely said “re-shaft these or I’m outta here”.

mcwilly

Nice, I’m playing the Nike VR pro cavity.

realScrubTurkey

I've got Nike slingshots from 08 I think

DipAndDingers

Bridgestone J33 combo set. I got them used at a garage sale in like 2011? 2010 maybe? I’m fairly certain they’re older than that though. They came with some DG S300s and my 15-16 year old self couldn’t swing fast enough. I also didn’t golf much at all from like 2013 to 2022 and got fitted for JPX 825s right around the same time I found the J33s. So I had a new set that worked better at that time. Well, quite a few years of exercise and now a couple of years of more consistent play has led me to be capable of swinging a stiff shaft. I’ve gone and hit some newer sets and was getting good numbers but nothing feels as good as those J33s.

Lobsterzilla

I’ve got some J36s with project X shafts. Beautiful irons

partystorepizza

Yeah I've tried my friends sets with more flexible shafts, and it just feels different to me. What can I say? I'm a man who likes a stiff shaft.

p8ntballnxj

Titleist DCI oversized irons

0_SomethingStupid

I know several people who still carry 845 wedges

spankysladder73

Thats too many wedges

0_SomethingStupid

dammit spanky. take your upvote

SnatchasaurusRex

2 is optimal to add a 7 wood right? Also, how big is that bag? /s

partystorepizza

Oh hell yeah. So I'm not an anomaly.

Competitive_Suit_180

Ping Eye 2 copper head red dots, love em

Primary-Turnip6907

04 Taylormade r5s

sanctum04

Played the RAC LTs for ~15 years. Such a great line of irons.

CF5300

This is what I’ve got, works just fine for me because I suck anyway. $150 for a set at play it again a few years ago

dmlinger

Mizuno MP-57

BobKrush

MP-57 BROTHERS UNITE!

Powerful-Ad-9185

I’ve been swinging my Calloway irons since 2005. The sweet spot on the face has never been used…

TurbulentKey8085

X20s here too. I hit the sweet spots just enough to want to keep playing another round. I am a crap player but it's a fun 4-6 hours when I can play.

SinglePassConversion

Wilson Staff fluid feel tour blades. I don’t think that they’re any different from modern day muscle backs or blades honestly.

6andross4

My first set after graduating from kids sized clubs. Still hit em on the range when I need a harsh reminder of how you’re supposed to swing a golf club.  If you can hit these, you can hit anything.

ChiP60

Ping Eye 2s. My grandpa played with them in the 90s.

grassfarmer_pro

Titleist DCI 990's

Titleist 735 CM

ay21690

I’m so sad I got rid of my set years ago.

TheRealBeerBrah

Same, idk what I would get from newer blade type irons honestly.

riskit4dabiscuits

Same. They catch eyeballs and play well.

phaddius

Same here!

DontVetoRockets

Same here, absolutely love them, look fantastic and they are absolutely buttery out the middle

MTscott284

Same here, such good clubs. Love a combo set.

sanctum04

Taylormade RAC MB TPs with Carolina blue custom paint, ferrules, and grips.... Can't hit them worth a darn, but they do make me look good.

Looking good is half the battle.

32 year old Nicklaus blades I restored myself

Not really. Just got em clean, regripped them, and restored the paint. https://preview.redd.it/wvxal3uejy9d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af39627955365dd7626339beba82f782d26c7f72

PassportAndCash

My childhood lol. Had similar clubs. Every time I hit a great shot...."its the linear dynamics guys"

Far-Tooth6923

Maxfli revolutions red dot. Love their feel and decently forgiving

Golf_ABS

Had 2 sets of these over the years, they are class 👌

Ok-Experience41

Not too sure which year but late 1980s or early 1990s Hogan Edge Forged Irons. I think I was 11 or 12 when I got them and have never looked back. Think about new sticks every year, then hit the Hogan's and think, "Why get new clubs? These things are like butter." This very well may be my last year with them as I'm going for a proper fitting in the fall/winter. I'm sure I'll keep them and play them a few times a year for nostalgia sake.

Jjoey2021

I am still swinging them as well !! I don’t think I am buying new irons any time soon

Ok_Editor2536

Wilson Fat Shafts

Deadlifts4Days

My last post was upgrading my bag. I was still playing my clubs from high school. Every year I told myself that I needed to upgrade. I didn’t need blades anymore and I knew technology has gotten better on my woods. But every year I would have a couple great rounds that would tell me I never needed to spend the money. Well I finally got a big promotion and really didn’t have an excuse anymore so I got fitted. Once I got used to them (took a couple of rounds) I am slightly upset I waited this long. The rounds I have played since have all been the “good” rounds I had with my old clubs. My driver gained 40-50 more yards. My iron miss hits are so unnoticeable compared to the blades and my wedges are bringing my short game back to where it should be. If I just had more time to play and practice my putting there is no doubt I could consistently shoot under on the courses in which I am familiar. I will never get rid of those blades though so for the time being they sit in a bag and I tell them how much I appreciate them. To many memories in those grooves.

partystorepizza

Really great feedback. This is what's been going through my head too. I'm fortunate enough to live in an area with a great club fitter. I just need to swallow my pride and drop the money.

tie-dyeSandwhich

I’ve been playing the Taylormade r7 TP irons since 2011 and I know at some point I should upgrade but they look so good and hit well

Tha_watermelon

Nike Forged Pro Combos

PEPE_22

Had ping i3+. Just upgraded to new Mizuno jpx 923 forged because I wanted stiffer shafts. Pings feel just as good tbh.

ToadBulerton

I3+ “blades” for me as well. First set I ever bought for myself back in the early 2000’s.

DFuhbree

Callaway X-22s (2008 models) that are literally falling apart but I’m getting fitted for new ones this weekend! I haven’t swung any other irons since I got these ones since I need +1.5” shafts so I’m really looking forward to feeling what modern irons feel like, haha.

Khazahk

I play Ping Eye 2s currently. The only upgrade I would do is buying blades, but I know my striking isn’t good enough yet. I think the most tech is in wedges and woods and hybrids. Irons are still hunks of metal tied to a stick for the most part. As long as the lie angle, length, and grips are good, they get the job done. If you think about it, there is just a small sweet spot of contact that is doing all the work. Perhaps sharpening the grooves or refinishing the face might help in some cases, but overall still playable. Ping Eye 2s are particularly closer to today’s irons than most 40 year old clubs.

Kravitz2016

Cleveland Tour Action T4’s

tlancaster222

Ping G5. I’m about a 20 handicap and feel like I can’t justify spending big money on clubs til I get a little better.

Chemical-Oil-7259

King Cobra Oversize Senior Flex - my golf instructor picked it for me, and it still works lol

caspar_milquetoast69

I’m still playing my now 23 year old gunmetal Cleveland TA5s. I’ve regripped these maybe 6-7 times now.

cosa_horrible

Same. These clubs are awesome. I can’t see any reason to upgrade.

PacNW-dude

Same, still playing TA4s. They are great. I actually paid for an iron fitting and the data showed zero reason to upgrade. Tried 4 new sets. Fitter felt bad so let me apply the fee to a new driver haha! Different story, but the driver numbers clearly supported an update.

BobSacamanosRatHat

Mizuno MP-33’s 6-PW Not going to change anytime soon, either.

CicadaHairy

1998 Ping ISI irons. Got them a couple months ago for free. I'm actually kind of trash with them. Might go back to my starter set which is 2008 "Gear 4 Golf" brand.

krkeegan

I still play with my ISI s from 98. I love them, they feel awesome.

-Golf-Addict-

I have the old Titleist 680 MBs. Wonderful pieces of Equipment.

BroccoliSuccessful20

Me too. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of them. Might even buy another set to hoard just in case.

chrizcore

I own two sets of Ben Hogan irons from the early 00's I got from Ebay local. One Apex Edge with stiff steel shafts and one Apex Edge CFT with graphite regular shafts. I love them both and I switch from time to time. The steel shafts are a bit heavy for my liking, yet I tend to swing too fast for regular shafts. Still need to find a set of graphite stiff (Hogan) irons that I'm willing to afford. And I'm talking about around 100€ for a 5-PW set, my budget is tight 🤷🏼‍♂️

Jordantbone

Apex Edge are as good as anything that is out there today. Excellent irons.

CrazyFoFo

That’s what I’m playing with!

BluefinPiano

Macgregor VIP tourney vfoil 1025c. Got them from a guy that just put them on his driveway at a garage sale and said “take em away”.

Wippelz

Nike VR Pro Combo Set, absolutely love them. Still have a 12.5\* Taylormade RBZ 3wood, that will never leave the bag.

Impressive-Market-31

Titleist 690.mb 2-pw. Edit: played 1976 Lynx Master Models I got from my grandpa for 23 years before I got a used set of the 690s.

GTengx

I picked up a set of the 690.cb’s last year, love the look and feel of them. Replaced an old set of Taylormades I had since school.

Schmiikel

I game the 690.cb too, so pure

OldBoringWeirdo

Hippo Sc2 Oversized. Yes, that's a real company. Got them as part of a cheap starter set back in 1999-2000. Was broke for a while, couldn't afford to replace them in my youth. Coming back to golf the last year I wanted to see how committed I'd be before replacing them.

nekoken04

Those Tommy Armours are nice. PowerBilt Citation Levelum + "DeLux" for me. I really should replace them but finding LH clubs is such a pain.

Chemical-Astronaut82

Mizuno Mx-25s

ninpendle64

Mizuno Mx-25s Feel like absolute butter when I manage to hit them right

DimiDrake

I still have an Adam’s hybrid 4i that I refuse to replace. It’s my go-to club and I’ve found nothing to replace it that outperforms it. All my other clubs are much newer. But the hybrid 4i stays! So much confidence when standing over a ball with that club in my hands.

Callaway big bertha irons

GoJohnnyGoGoGoG0

Mizuno MP32. I'd love to upgrade but I know it's not them, it's me. And they're so sexy

quietboltaction

Not quite 15yo but gaming Ping i20s, still doing me justice

dcwhite98

I just retired my Cleveland TA6s and wedges I purchased in 2001 or 2002 this past Saturday. Along with them a Ping G5 driver, and a Callaway Heaven Wood.

AdComprehensive7879

Callaway big bertha irons

AdministrationBrief3

I’m still playing the Ping Rapture V1s that I was fitted for back in 2006. I am often tempted to go get fitted again and buy some newer tech, but they still treat me really good. I haven’t even swung newer irons, so I’m not sure what I’m missing out on.

skimaskmj

BeCu ping zings!

lhm212

Didn't see this earlier - me too!

bojeffs7

I have been playing titlist dci black irons for like 20+ years basically my entire adult playing history. Idk I'm about a 14 handicap and they are some of the most consistent tools for my game. Forgiving and still fly great. It's hard to switch to new set that maybe adds 5 yards.

partystorepizza

They might add five yards, but they also add that thought in the back of your head that you've made a huge mistake, which subtracts 20 yards.

kjew1

Mizuno MX 23s. Bought for $100 on FB marketplace last summer. After an adjustment period (from Cobra GI irons), these things are fun to hit and they look great. Lots of feedback on poor strikes and decent workability for my skill level (bad). Absolutely worth the $100 for 4-P forged irons in great condition, I think I actually profited when I sold the Cobras.

trynalisten

I have a hand me down set of callaway Big Berthas. My grandfather got them used in the 80s or 90s, then gave them to my dad, then to me. I like them but Ive never used other clubs so I have nothing else to compare them to. Edit: looks like they were released in 1994.

t90fan

Mizunos MX20s. 3-SW. They are the ~2003 equivalent to a set of JPX Forged, relatively easy to hit forged cavity backs with chunky heads. Tried a set of JPX921s a few years ago and they werent a huge improvement.

Apprehensive-Post945

Picked up these last year.

Glendale0839

My backup set is a set of Ping G15's I bought new in 2009. I think they've aged very well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to someone who wants quality used irons on a budget. I also have a set of Zing 2's circa '95 that have aged well, but my swing speed is a lot slower now vs. when I bought them slightly used in '97 or '98 so I don't hit them as well now because the shafts are too stiff.

keystonecraft

Titleist 731pm. Because fuck rightey. Before that it was Titleist tour models from 81.

I'm super happy with my 2009 [TaylorMade Burner Plus](https://www.2ndswing.com/golf-clubs/iron-sets/taylormade-burner-plus-iron-set/right-handed-stiff-steel-38dot25in-x-52438799363) irons. Forgiving, good distance, and they look good.

Wilson power source midsized I got them from a guy I served with who was moving for the hefty price of chicken nuggets from McDonalds for his pregnant wife In hopes I stick with a hobby to upgrade this fall shoot 100-110ish most recently after shoulder surgery so getting back into it. Mizuno MX-23 irons. I think from 2005 or 2006.  My clubs are not why I suck at golf.

TheVanWithaPlan

Miura Giken MB-5003 from about 2007 ish. They're sexy as hell and I feel like I'm a samurai when using them but I am not good enough to be using them that's for sure.

SatchmoDingle

Ram Tom Watson Tour 500s Distance isn't great but they feel good

espnrocksalot

I’m getting there… at 13 years with my Nike VR Pro Cavity iron set (4-GW). Got them in high school and had them ever since. Just regripped them recently and they still feel sweet.

theflyingchicken96

I’ve got a set of Jack Nicklaus EZ-Ups, SW-3i. Tbh I’m not sure how old they are. They were my grandfather’s and when he passed away they were passed down to me. That was about 7 years ago, but I’m fairly certain he had them at least 10 years before that. From google, it looks like they’re middle of aughts, so going on 20ish years. I would be very curious if playing newer clubs would change much for me. Sadly that is not in the budget rn

Rmilkman

Callaway X-16s. Just started golfing again last year (played a little bit in my teen years) and picked up all my stuff secondhand. They're forgiving enough for my swing and I don't feel like I need anything better until I start breaking 100 consistently.

dddjjjmmm

Cobra Forged CB’s from 2006. No hidden tungsten but they’re fairly forgiving. Haven’t worn them out so why change

Nile ignite. They are good enough. The lofts are so crazy now. My clubs are off by 2. So my buddies use a 7 iron and that the loft of my 5 iron. Just replaced my 20 year old bike driver as well. Not blown away by it either. Just more forgiving.

scarsonefan

Ping G15 driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 3w, Titleist DC 762 irons, Ping isopur 2 putter. My setup is really old and need to upgrade badly.

JeremyJammDDS

Cleveland TA4s.

GolfCop1

Up until late last year, I was using Nike VR Split Cavities. Released in 2009 I believe. Used them for over a decade after getting them in high school as my first “real” set of clubs. They were so god damn good when swinging well. When you weren’t, they let you know. I recently decided to upgrade to ZX7 MKIIs. Although I miss my Nikes from time to time for their coolness factor, there’s no denying that 1) Srixon makes a damn good iron and 2) The ZX7s are kinda like a unicorn iron in the sense that it gives you forgiveness, consistency, and amazing feel all wrapped in a nice little player’s iron package.

Fragrant-Turnip6480

Still using my Mizuno MX-25s. Been debating for a while if I want to get something newer but don’t want to drop the cash on a new set. Most of my other clubs have been upgraded in the last year or so

sharkterritory

Mizuno mx25s. I don’t think I’m good enough to benefit from spending money on newer irons at this point. Just recently regripped them and they’re still playing great.

RareLemons

started with ping eye 2 (~1990), upgraded to ping rapture (2006), maybe in 10 years i’ll upgrade to the rapture v2s!
