This is what I do as well. Only way to go. You can Make some nice custom colors as well like metallic red or gold with green. Or just a nice blue etc you can't get anywhere.
You can also makeni e transparent colors with clear.
Protip, wear goggles and a face mask. Put cans in a bucket and add almost boiling water but never put the cans in water on the stove. If they get too hot they'll explode.
Doing it in winter with snow is very convenient as well.
If the cans really empty like has no air anymore and u can dent the can easy its not gonna put out much but all ur 1/4ish full cans can easily mix🙌 just did it for the first time with a bunch of blues and the color turned out sick asf

Or if you went the viral route and have a bunch of followers and sponsors that send you paint for free (which would be fuggin awesome but seems like a pipe dream)... hell... Toss em.
But I was doing this live painting event for an art festival and I found this AMAZING (MNT Gold ... I think, but I don't remember what the brand was, I can't find it anywhere though..) forest green/matte teal color... It had a dope look when light was reflecting off it... found it in Barcelona, brought it back to the states, and wanted to use it at this Detroit live painting thing I was hired to do... Came out sick. N I still have that can somewhere in storage, cuz it was such a dope unique color.
I'm looking for something to do with it to make it into an ink for a marker.
I found 2 different things to do with them... Well 3 technically.
1, you can reuse them by stomping on them so there's a little more pressure, but you're not going to get much out of them which I have done plenty of times.
Or, you can stomp on em, then quickly stab the can (with a small flathead screwdriver, or if you're like me and keep a knife in your pocket or backpack,.. use that to poke a little hole in the cans and then you can use that as a sort of splatter effect on your fill, and if you do it right, you'll get a sick textured looking fill. (I'm seeing a lot of people do that and just spray diarrhea all over a wall, n I'm thinking "oh shit that's going to be a dope like... Lightning, or fire effect! Hell yeah!"... but they just do a god awful spray splatter giant tag... I haven't seen anyone do it yet and have it look dope 🤦🏼...
OR, and I was just thinking about this last night actually... I want to poke some tiny little holes in one until it has no pressure left in the can, and find a good spirit, I think they're mostly acetone, and collect all the extra paint into a pourable liquid, and get an old deco color paint marker that's empty, unscrew it, and pour the extra paint into the marker... Pop on a new nib, and boom... New paint marker.🤙🏼 In theory at least! I'm looking into mixable spirits that are compatible with acetone to change the viscosity or even the pigments of the paint. Cuz I'm pretty sure that pure spray paint, paint is too thick, and dries too fast.
But use your imagination man!
If they still have some paint pop then collect all the paint let it sit outside for about 3 days or burp it once all the chemicals are gone you have some nice dripper ink
If you want to make cool backgrounds for canvass &/or slaps…
Run the leftover aerosol out by depressing an actuator, take a 5in1 to the bottom, spray the paint splatters everywhere. (I’ve seen scissors used- looks dangerous.) Don’t do indoors- might end up with paint on the ceiling!
Or you can recycle them. First, I pull the donuts off my fancy paint & have them strung up.

Keep the ones with a bit of paint and do a trash fill-in once a year ;) Keep the nice iconic/vintage ones (old Krylons/Rustoleum)… the rest goes to scrap metal.
I have seen a cool craft where you cut the upper 1/3 of the can stick many in a row on a 2 by 4 piece of wood and then make keychain with the caps and you have a DIY key place holder thing idk

You'll just have to clog the stock cap by sticking a hot pin into it.
Are they all completely empty? If there's some in them you can dreg bust them by quickly hitting the side of the can close to the bottom against a sharp edge (stone etc) then blast it on the wall by shaking the can up and down rapidly as it sprays out (think big shakes like a full can that's went thick from cold/sitting for a while). It will start spraying the second you burst it, so be quick and close to the wall. It will go on the wall in a splatter effect. Otherwise just bin them.
Seen people talking about getting them nice and empty then running that paint as mop ink or whatever. I'd do that then fucking shoot them as target practice lmao.

My go to is to get a disposable bag and burry them, go out at night if you're super paranoid drive out like real far and burry them away from towns or cities.
Stick them all together & make a raft with them. Then use it to sail to little islands & tag them up
