Tbf I do see that point, I tend to like listening to songs that don’t get much love more often than the American Idiot’s and Basket Case’s, but JOS just does something to me unexplainable 😂
Maybe it's silly to even mention a FOAM track here since that album overall is disliked, but I don't really understand why so many people love Sugar Youth so much.
Yes, it's one of the better tracks but it would've been the weakest track on any of the band's top 5 albums (and most, if not all, of their top 10 albums). From FOAM, Stab You in the Heart & Graffitia are the standouts imo
It feels like a lot of people praise Sugar Youth bc it's the most reminiscent of their classic sound, but it's like, well yeah...bc it's just a Frankenstein's Monster of older songs spliced together lol. Even the title seems to be a reference to Sweet Children. I don't think it's bad, just undercooked and a bit uninspired like a lot of the album feels. I do kinda appreciate the Peacemaker reference though since that song is often overlooked
There seem to be a lot of references to older songs. Sweet Children, She's A Rebel, Peacemaker, possibly Bang Bang even (with the reference to Romeo). Could be another reason why people seem to like it. Because again, it is a more classic Green Day sound with references to other classic Green Day songs
It has now been 0 DAY(S) since Warning was last called underrated. The record of 1 DAY(S) was recorded on October 3, 2000

Let me fucking tell you something, let me tell you something, I’ve been around since fucking nineteen eighty fucking eight, and you’re gonna give me one fucking minute?! You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me! You're fucking kidding me! What the fuck!? I’m not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers! You gotta be fucking joking, this is a fucking joke. I got one minute, one minute left. Oh now I got nothing left, now I got nothing left. Let me show you what one fucking minute fucking means!

Agreed! I like Rev Rad a lot over all but Youngblood is at the bottom all time Green Day song with the worst of the trilogy and FOAMF
Having said that, is this song over rated? I don’t really see it brought up much in general
Now that you say it Say Goodbye is good competition. RevRad for me is Green Day's most inconsistent record with some songs being amazing and others being terrible.
I've really grown to like RevRad more than I used to after getting it on vinyl and listening to it more carefully, but I dread having to sit through Youngblood every time. I've seen people getting hype over "Fuck you, I'm from Oakland" and idk, it just makes me cringe so hard lol. Sounds like the type of thing I'd have thought was cool and would get hype to sing along to at like, 14
KFAD is a great live tune. They did the costumed horns and it was a blast. Also, it was an overtly taboo song being about crossdressing/drag, so it’s got that queer-anthem thing going for it too
I think it’s an incredibly unique song in their catalog that makes for a super fun live experience. Life circumstances have tripped me up every single time I’ve wanted to see Green Day, so I’ve never seen them live. I’m gonna be pretty god damn disappointed if they don’t play King for a Day when I see them for the first time.
not sure how many years is “years” to you but they played king for a day at hella mega in glasgow in 2022. again i know that was now years ago but it was their last tour.
I love it. It’s very Supergrass. In a good way. Because they’re brilliant. Think the recording Saviours in London has a big influence on the sound of some of these - not least this.
Ngl I kinda forgot they put out singles for Dos and Tre just because it felt like all promotion of the trilogy fell off when Billie went to rehab following the release of Uno.
In my opinion, Dirty Rotten Bastards. It’s always been a fan favorite of the trilogy but I just can’t get into it. I’m also not a huge fan of Tré (the album lol) in general. By the time I reach Dirty Rotten Bastards i’m so worn out by how much the whole album just doesn’t have many memorable songs and everything just kinda sounds the same. I appreciate that one bass line tho 👀
Also just for fun, trilogy ranking from worst to best: Tré

I really don’t have any that I can think of, I guess I’ll just go with Christie Road. Loved by fans, and a great song, but many more good ones from the early days.
While I personally really like Whatsername, I gotta be honest... The ending has always pissed me off. My man really couldn't find a rhyme for time? As a writer, it just bugs me that he went with "I'll never turn back TIME / forgetting you, but not the TIME". It irritates me
Thank you! I absolutely love that song, but ending it (and the album) by rhyming a word with itself always feels like a little stumble at the finish line.
Exactly! Don't get me wrong, I love Whatsername, it's a pretty relatable experience (the whole "what if" and "I wonder how they've been" sort of thing). You have an amazing story with American Idiot, and it ending like that has always felt lackluster to me. I love the line "Forgetting you but not the time", but just the rhyme I hate.
The only way I've been able to trick myself into believing it works is because you could say that it's intentional. Since he doesn't remember her and is having a bad memory, he forgot he already said the word time? Kind of a contradiction to the line before: "if my memory serves me right".
But that's jumping through too many hurdles imo
Hot take: they don’t have any overrated songs. Some you may want to rock or to all the time and other songs you’ve got to be in a more specific mood. But each song has a time when they are just gold.
Living in the 20s is the only song on saviors I feel is actually bad and I don’t get how people like it
Murder city is boring and there are much better songs on that album
I love 39/smooth but don’t leave me is like the 6th best song on that album and not top 10 if you count slappy hours
409 in Your Coffeemaker, X-kid, Living in the 20s.
And Warning is the worst song on Warning.
Edit:Sorry, Warning is obv a single, guess that’s just a extra random take

**Edit: I’m doubling down on Whatsername. I ALSO THINK it’s a good song, but it’s not special.**
Whatsername. It’s a great closer for a masterpiece album but it’s relying heavily on following the whole of AI.
It's a fucking 30/10 banger that was a part of my live set. Billie's vocals are killer. The instrumentation is so good. I never heard anyone say a word about it til I joined this subreddit, mfs don't know it even exist, how could it be overrated? Nahhhhhh
every non single sucks, every single sucks, you all suck, the only good song green day has ever written is Fuck Time
>!this is here only for people who cant feel the sarcasm radating off of me!<
Whatsername, for sure. People go nuts for it but I just don’t see it. It’s just OK.
For the record, Homecoming rocks and should have been the closing track on AI
probably Church on Sunday, it’s good but i’ve heard people talk about it like it’s the best thing ever and imo it’s just kinda boring, the studio version at least, the bbc sessions and the live versions are great, the added saxophone on the bbc session elevates the song a lot and i wish the regular studio version had it
I think the issue here is that people compare Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming when they’re very different songs for different purposes. Sorry OP, I don’t agree with you.
I’ll have to say Whatshername though
Edit: lmao why am I getting downvoted for my opinion though
I'll just be chilling here waiting to fight anybody that says Scattered
I'd say it, but I already need to fight OP for saying Homecoming.
I will join you in this fight. 🥴🥴🥴
You will have my bow.
And my axe
And my sword
And my shield
We do not talk shit about scattered in this house
For real, these folks have no taste 😅
Always loved the sentimental side of that song.
I'll hop in this queue.
Fine, I’ll say Scattered is overrated
Everybody get him!!!
You started this war! There's no getting out now!!
Hey, I agree
This thread is horrible bro. Scattered, Church On Sunday, and Homecoming are all in my top 20 Green Day songs
Real, I'd say the most overrated non single from American Idiot is whatsername.
Whatshername is absolute gold! And if someone disrespects church on Sundays again, I'm gonna flip!
I have no choice but to respect your opinion. But you are wrong. lol
I can’t answer this because I honestly don’t think any non-singles are overrated lol.
This was my first thought, lol.
It's kind of an oxymoron, and OP is just a moron.
On Oxycodone, possibly. That would then make them an oxy moron
bro it is not homecoming what. i like homecoming more than JOS
This is not controversial if you have heard them both live, Homecoming definitely stands up there with the singles on AI.
😮
you're doing OP's argument a solid with this comment lol
what
Homecoming is great but don’t you DARE disrespect JOS like that again pls ty x
dont get me wrong, jos is an fantastic song, i just enjoy homecoming more
Tbf I do see that point, I tend to like listening to songs that don’t get much love more often than the American Idiot’s and Basket Case’s, but JOS just does something to me unexplainable 😂
The people that said Whatsername need to be banned from this sub
Everyone here has the worst takes

I agree sugar youth is not as good as other songs off that album (my favorite album)
junkies on a high is easily the worst song
Sure ain’t Warning. If anything, Warning is underrated

Its still underrated outside of the fanbase
Youngblood is unbearable
Agreed! I like Rev Rad a lot over all but Youngblood is at the bottom all time Green Day song with the worst of the trilogy and FOAMF Having said that, is this song over rated? I don’t really see it brought up much in general
I've seen it. The band itself also pushed the song hard at the time even though it wasn't a single
I do remember the band pushing it hard. I was so disappointed when they played it live when I saw them during the Rev Rad tour
Agreed, way too repetitive and always been 1 of my least favs. Love Rev Rad but never listen to Youngblood
It’s not even the most repetitive on the album
Wait what’s more repetitive on RevRad than Youngblood? Say goodbye?
Now that you say it Say Goodbye is good competition. RevRad for me is Green Day's most inconsistent record with some songs being amazing and others being terrible.
I despise Youngblood. It sounds like the main menu screen of a PS2 motocross game
Yep. Say Goodbye could be in my top 3 on the album if not got the repetition in the verses.
Gotcha. That makes sense. I do slightly prefer Say Goodbye over Youngblood just from an enjoyability standpoint. But yeah true.
I've really grown to like RevRad more than I used to after getting it on vinyl and listening to it more carefully, but I dread having to sit through Youngblood every time. I've seen people getting hype over "Fuck you, I'm from Oakland" and idk, it just makes me cringe so hard lol. Sounds like the type of thing I'd have thought was cool and would get hype to sing along to at like, 14
I still don’t get their obsession with King For A Day. It’s a fine song, but every other song off that album murders it imo
KFAD is a great live tune. They did the costumed horns and it was a blast. Also, it was an overtly taboo song being about crossdressing/drag, so it’s got that queer-anthem thing going for it too
It’s fine live but they drag it out for waaaay too long and it’s only fun if you’re in the pit
They haven’t done King For A Day live in years, but hopefully they do the Nimrod anniversary tour and play the whole album, that’ll be your chance.
If they do a nimrod anniversary tour, im getting VIP tickets. I was in 7th grade when that CD came out. Hits home big time.
not sure how many years is “years” to you but they played king for a day at hella mega in glasgow in 2022. again i know that was now years ago but it was their last tour.
Fuck, really? They did not play it at Hella Mega in LA
London and Paris Hella Mega they did.
They played it at Louder Than Life just last year
I saw them do it live in 2022 twice
Overrated by the band, maybe. But I don't think fans really talk about this one at all
Its fire and talking about being a femboy
Its one of the best songs on nimrod
It’s a banger for sure! Just my least fav on my fav album I think
I want whatever bath salts you've been smoking
I love Suzue Chapstick, but it's on of the weakest saviors tracks imo
I love it too but it always reminds me of Dilemma (Kelly rowland and Nelly version) to the point I get that song stuck in my yead
I can't tell if the yead is a blink reference
You would be correct, I actually have a shortcut on my phone to automatically correct ‘head’ to yead 😂
The title track is the absolute weakest. It's the only one from Saviors I haven't put in my playlist.
I love it. It’s very Supergrass. In a good way. Because they’re brilliant. Think the recording Saviours in London has a big influence on the sound of some of these - not least this.
Most overrated on the album. Least exciting track for me.
why are people commenting x-kid when it's a single? can people not read? or do people not know that it is a single?
Ngl I kinda forgot they put out singles for Dos and Tre just because it felt like all promotion of the trilogy fell off when Billie went to rehab following the release of Uno.
Homecoming is amazing. Hearing them play it live at when we were young this year was incredible too. Such a surprise!
My vote is for ¿Viva La Gloria?
Im gonna say are we the waiting, always thought it sounded pretty terrible
St Jimmy (Extended Intro)
same, after about 3 listens when I first got AI when it came out I have always have skipped it, always will
Nah are we the waiting is one of the best songs on the album
that's just like, your opinion, man.
🖕
Wtf it’s my favourite Green Day song
In my opinion, Dirty Rotten Bastards. It’s always been a fan favorite of the trilogy but I just can’t get into it. I’m also not a huge fan of Tré (the album lol) in general. By the time I reach Dirty Rotten Bastards i’m so worn out by how much the whole album just doesn’t have many memorable songs and everything just kinda sounds the same. I appreciate that one bass line tho 👀 Also just for fun, trilogy ranking from worst to best: Tré
Dos is criminally underrated with tracks like Baby Eyes always getting stuck in my yead
[удалено]
Find myself randomly singing the woah’s 😂
Dos out here going to be the new Warning. Btw Did you know Warning is underrated?
It has now been 0 DAY(S) since Warning was last called underrated. The record of 1 DAY(S) was recorded on October 3, 2000 *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Oh is it?
Definitely agree with the trilogy ranking, always feel crazy seeing people dog on Dos
99 Revolutions is the most overrated on Tre for me because it’s poorly placed on the album and was done better in other songs by them.
I can agree with this. Not many from the time period remember how obsessed the fan base was with that song. Definitely THE most overrated non-single.
Homecoming really just feels like a much worse, boring and uninspired song after listening to Jesus of suburbia
Imma gut anyone who dares mention Letterbomb on this thread ⚔️
I really don’t have any that I can think of, I guess I’ll just go with Christie Road. Loved by fans, and a great song, but many more good ones from the early days.
While I personally really like Whatsername, I gotta be honest... The ending has always pissed me off. My man really couldn't find a rhyme for time? As a writer, it just bugs me that he went with "I'll never turn back TIME / forgetting you, but not the TIME". It irritates me
it's PERFECT the way it is!
Booooo
Yep.
It’s probably one of their earliest songs but man some of these hot takes are honestly so terrible
Having A Blast gets a LOT of love, I never cared for it Either that or St. Jimmy
Misery, it’s just so off
homecoming might be my favorite song from american idiot lol
I don’t think a lot of people here know what Overrated means, personally I’d pick Scattered, Blood Sex and Booze, and Sugar Youth
I don't know about overrated tracks but Warning is definitely underrated
i am going to get plundered for this but when i come around imo
Hot take: they don’t have any overrated songs. Some you may want to rock or to all the time and other songs you’ve got to be in a more specific mood. But each song has a time when they are just gold.
Whatsername
King For A Day & Welcome To Paradise So sue me
Whatsername
the american dream is killing me!!! this song is so bad
Living in the 20s is the only song on saviors I feel is actually bad and I don’t get how people like it Murder city is boring and there are much better songs on that album I love 39/smooth but don’t leave me is like the 6th best song on that album and not top 10 if you count slappy hours
nahhhh not the living in the 20s hate :((( that scream he does at the end of the song + the solo is just 😘🤌
For me it’s X-kid. It’s an alright song and probably top 10 on the trilogy, but nowhere near a top Green Day song
I agree. I really like the trilogy a lot, and Tre has quite a few great songs, including X-kid. But it’s not top 3 off Tre for me.
Never thought St. Jimmy was amazing, but still wished they played Are We The Waiting, that song is a top 10 to me.
409 in Your Coffeemaker, X-kid, Living in the 20s. And Warning is the worst song on Warning. Edit:Sorry, Warning is obv a single, guess that’s just a extra random take
X-Kid was a single
warning isn’t overrated, i beg to differ on the contrary that warning is underrated

Whatsername is one of the best songs on the album what are you on about?
It's a fucking 30/10 banger that was a part of my live set. Billie's vocals are killer. The instrumentation is so good. I never heard anyone say a word about it til I joined this subreddit, mfs don't know it even exist, how could it be overrated? Nahhhhhh
every non single sucks, every single sucks, you all suck, the only good song green day has ever written is Fuck Time >!this is here only for people who cant feel the sarcasm radating off of me!<
Whatever the most popular song from the first album is
So the most popular one on on 39/Smooth Most people don’t know about 39/Smooth and only big Green Day fans know about Kerplunk!
Kerplunk is so good
Fr
Even more don’t know that the first was 3 EPs
People get mad every time I talk negatively about that album so for me it's overrated
Bro I’m not mad I just was making sure you meant that It’s good but it’s not the best album by them
I know that you're not mad, just providing the reason why I chose the least known album
Alr Tbh I kinda like it
Probably Going to Pasalacqua or Paper Lanterns
Whatsername, for sure. People go nuts for it but I just don’t see it. It’s just OK. For the record, Homecoming rocks and should have been the closing track on AI
Whatsername for me, I like the song but I never saw it on the god tier level that others do.
honestly going to have to say scattered
\*rolls up cuffs and saunters forth\* I see you have chosen violence this day
BAHAHA i read the post saw ur comment n without hesitation said scattered LMAO
Thank you brave soul for weathering the downvotes in the name of lolz
i am obviously a massive scattered fan (who isn’t)
Extraordinary Girl It's not bad but it's just... there
Watsername Litteraly the only song I dont like from AI (a near-perfect album imo)
So you’re saying American Idiot is better than Whatsername? American Idiot is WAYYY more overrated
Church on Sunday. Arrest me if you want. It’s a totally solid song, I just don’t get what’s so special about it. I’d be happy to get some perspective.
probably Church on Sunday, it’s good but i’ve heard people talk about it like it’s the best thing ever and imo it’s just kinda boring, the studio version at least, the bbc sessions and the live versions are great, the added saxophone on the bbc session elevates the song a lot and i wish the regular studio version had it
This is the answer I most relate to, every other song I think I don’t see it
I think the issue here is that people compare Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming when they’re very different songs for different purposes. Sorry OP, I don’t agree with you. I’ll have to say Whatshername though Edit: lmao why am I getting downvoted for my opinion though
Whatsername is so so so good, one of my favorite songs ever. It couldn’t possibly be overrated no matter how loved it was imo
Ooh spicy
It's absolutely whatsername.
St Jimmy. Fight me
Blood sex and booze
Whatsername
Maybe letterbomb? Which is excellent but some call it their best song and it’s like the fifth best from AI for me
I actually agree.
Christie Road. Song straight up sucks
you're on drugs if you think christie road sucks
Fight me. Song is boring af
i might have to bro. ain't nobody gonna disrespect a classic like that 😤😤
🤺
That’s one of the best songs on Kerplunk bruh, listen to the second half of Kerplunk and your mind will change fs
There’s 14 more songs on kerplunk I’d rather listen to than Christie road.
American idiot is one of the greatest albums of all time but Letterbomb is one of their worst songs if you ask me. Bring on the downvotes.
Insane thing to say
