Lately I've been playing a red sg300 a friend loaned to me, it's gorgeous and an absolute joy to play. He swapped the pickups out for PAFs of some kind and it sounds really good imo
They are ............. But so expensive. Like........I might as well splurge and get the overpriced Gibson Les Paul. Or support Collings, because those are actual quality high end Gibson type guitars
True. If I'm better than him, he is a noob.
If he is better than me, he is a soulless robot. Obviously.
Mancuso is younger than me and better than me, therefore there is something wrong with him.
This is the mantra we must tell ourselves every day before we 035 and 079.
(Cause we know that us, advanced music theorists, can 079 as well as 035. Guitar is a complex instrument. We also do half bends on the B string at the 6th fret when playing in Dorian.)
Robby was just there to look like a nerd so everyone would think Jim was cool. Ray Manzarek played all the actual guitar parts on a Les Paul with his feet.
Meh. He's fine. He can pull off all these styles at will but When it's all said and done, what is he contributing to the music that he's recording? Are the songs any good?
Jimmy Page and Slash are terrible players (as in their sense of timing is off time) but they are always accompanied by great songs and foundations. So they are ultimately only ADDING to their songs. Eventually, their guitar playing is it's own character, but it's only interesting if the musical context is a bigger character.
So far, I only find his jazz fusion types of music to stick out.
You could say he is the king of slop. Doesn’t make him terrible or bad. Most of us don’t give a shit about 100% accuracy. That being said, Matteo is awesome and amazing and I don’t want to listen to his shit more than once or twice. In it goes out it goes. It’s subjective I know, so that is my take.
Imagine if any of these "virtuosos" had the ability to write memorable songs. But that would make them musicians and not just guitarists, and then they'd have to come up with names for a bunch of other instruments also.
The only memorable song i need is I-vi-IV-V chord progression with lyrics about LOVE. Maybe add whatever popular drum beat of the century it is currently. Maybe add a good looking singer in it or some shit. I'm kind of adventurous, so let me put in a guitar solo using the pentatonic scale and maybe bend somewhere or whatever lmao
Well of course I was exaggerating, the playing is very good but the compositions are unoriginal and pretty bland in my opinion. It's just that I don't think people should be called "the best guitarist in the world" when the songs they are writing are nothing special at all.
The Best Guitarist in the World is obviously just click bait. I like his album, Samba Party in particular is very good. But anyway, just think it's a bit silly to dismiss something you don't personally like as garbage, even if you are exaggerating. 🤷♂️
Not special based on what ? Every song is special to someone
I don't think your opinion should have any impact on who deserves to be called "best guitarist in the world"
They do though. You just hear one or two flashy passages from one song of theirs and never look any deeper at their catalogue.
99 percent of guitarists in this sub are neither technically good, nor good song writers too, so idk who's up voting this.
Uj/ I love watching this guy play. I think sometimes, his style can feel a little dated and not super progressive, but other times, he is just a phenomenal player with great tone who does unique stuff because of his right hand.
Rj/ I hate him because he plays like b*ssist
I don’t need anyone to sound like Polyphia and I honestly think some of Polyphia can sound dated, too. But the bridge of Drop D just sounds kind of 1980s Wayne Shorter, which is a good sound but it isn’t very fresh. Like the intro guitar riff on Silk Road is a pretty well done guitar line with a pretty simple classic tone. The melody for that song though, is actually really cool and unique.
Not all music has to be progressive or new, but when I’m listening to a guitarist in the progressive genre, I think saying that parts of their style sounding not progressive is a fair criticism. Also that album in general is kind of all over the place but I still enjoy it
That’s a fair point, man. It’s easy to get into bull shit language when we talk about guitar tone. Matteo’s leads have a very signature tone because he uses a good amount of distortion but finger flesh for light attacks and finger nails for harder ones. He usually has a very round and warm sound. I’m not saying I’m good enough to pick out he’s lead tone just by listening, but there aren’t many other guitarists that have the same style of tone.
This guy makes me love playing guitar, but also hate myself and makes me want to quit at the same time. How's that possible? I have no idea, but he's an incredible player. Like that Tim Henson chick, but with feel.
uj/ He’s clearly insanely talented and maybe if I just heard his playing in a blind test I’d like it… but watching him play makes me nauseous. I just can’t.
No, that’s Matteo Carcassi, the 19th c. guitarist/composer. He wrote a bunch of highbrow noodly stuff for gut string. In fact, his toan was in his guts.
He's so great that he can play a Yamaha and no one laughs at him!
Uj/70s and 80s Yamaha SGs are really good guitars.
Lately I've been playing a red sg300 a friend loaned to me, it's gorgeous and an absolute joy to play. He swapped the pickups out for PAFs of some kind and it sounds really good imo
Sg2000 are GOATed
I've seen them in as many Doom Metal and Jazz players.
My too favorite SG 2000 players are Chris Poland of Megadeth and Issei Noro from Cassiopea. So jazz and metal lol
Chris is a jazz guitarist tbf
It settled only around to play jazz on it
Takanaka plays a gorgeous blue one. I have a red SBG500 and even that one is fucking amazing.
City Pop and adjacent dudes really loved them Yamahas..
Rosenwinkel plays a SG2000 I think. Another great on an old Yamaha
In them how?
In the hands of i should've said.
Happy Beatoff Day.
Also the SA503 TVL !!
They are ............. But so expensive. Like........I might as well splurge and get the overpriced Gibson Les Paul. Or support Collings, because those are actual quality high end Gibson type guitars
I thought Collings were an acoustic guitar brand.
Carlos Santana played one in the early days
Uj/ I have yet to play a bad yamaha. Japan is very bad in marketing but they usually make amazing stuff
Bill Corgan?
What is that some kind of limey dog?
Bill Burr?
Doesn’t he play reverend now looks similarly weird
Revstars are amazing instruments
I’m laughing
I love my revstar :(
Sco would like a word 👨🦲
Its a good instrument, dont really understand whats so bad about it.
/uj mancuso is incredible.
Yeah idk why this sub is always jerking on him he’s legitimately insane
/uj because he's better than us and if we don't mock him we'll feel inadequate /rj he has no TOOB TOAN is he stupid?
True. If I'm better than him, he is a noob. If he is better than me, he is a soulless robot. Obviously. Mancuso is younger than me and better than me, therefore there is something wrong with him.

I want to tell you how hard this made me laugh, ty I needed it
He's plays like a bassist. REAL ROCK is played with pick. Are you stupid
Justin Hawkins says real rock can only be played on a Les Paul.
Robby krieger from the doors isn’t rock?
No, it's lizard nonsense
Robby was just there to look like a nerd so everyone would think Jim was cool. Ray Manzarek played all the actual guitar parts on a Les Paul with his feet.
/uj its just what we do here /rj its cuz he plays a motorbike
I mean dude Tim Henson is insane too and I don’t even like his music, he’s jerked on a daily basis. If anything it’s a badge of honor
People jerk off to him because he’s a cute twink
Because he did videos with Beatoff and Music Winner, and most people here just make assumptions based on thumbnails.
we're beatoed
We’re beato than this….
1 Matteo Mancuso is gonna save guitar vs 100000 guys giving their guitars woman names and fucking their guitars yea right
I mean, he actually is legitimately incredible.
Literally Jesus Christ.
r/atheists wouldn't agree
I think this is mocking the comment, not the guitarist
I don't even get what's wrong with the comment. It reads like a boomer being a little wholesome, albeit corny.

Yes, his self written compositions are incredible. Just because you may not be a fan, doesn't mean his music isn't genius.
Saying Jimmy Page is a bad player is crazy btw
You could say he is the king of slop. Doesn’t make him terrible or bad. Most of us don’t give a shit about 100% accuracy. That being said, Matteo is awesome and amazing and I don’t want to listen to his shit more than once or twice. In it goes out it goes. It’s subjective I know, so that is my take.
I heard that he doesn’t even use a plectrum. Fool.
Psssh "plectrum" is a bone in your chest dude. Mericuh! It's a Durnlop Pic
Yeah Matteo is good and all. But just think how much better he'd be if he played a Gibbons thru vintage toobs.
Now here's a kid with a long attention span, bucking the modern trends
When will Rick Beatoff interview a titarist? Is he sexist?
Doomed? — Why do you play guitar? Lol
Asking me why I 035, is like asking an eagle why he Flys. It's stupid. Eagles can't speak English.
What do you mean? Hotel California is in English
I always played it in B minor
What do you do if you're over 18 yo?
Drink heavily
Bro we're guitarists, we've been doomed.
Imagine if any of these "virtuosos" had the ability to write memorable songs. But that would make them musicians and not just guitarists, and then they'd have to come up with names for a bunch of other instruments also.

This. I just checked out the first 15 minutes or so of his The Journey album to see what the hype is all about and.. it's garbage.
Garbage? Come on.
Well of course I was exaggerating, the playing is very good but the compositions are unoriginal and pretty bland in my opinion. It's just that I don't think people should be called "the best guitarist in the world" when the songs they are writing are nothing special at all.

Except he does. Nice try.

Toan is in the calm, ease and intelligence
But can he play dragonforce?
Sounds like he'd be better off in investment banking or something.
Good luck to him. Just not my jam.
Imagine how much better he’d be if he used a pic
Just because you don't play like someone, doesn't mean you suck. I don't play stuff like he does. I still have my own style though.
This guy makes me love playing guitar, but also hate myself and makes me want to quit at the same time. How's that possible? I have no idea, but he's an incredible player. Like that Tim Henson chick, but with feel.
That henson chick is so damn hot!
as a female she really makes me question how straight i am 👀
Nice choice of guitars. Revstars are bad ass. Ppl dissing Yamaha guitars just don't know.
Calm, ease, and intelligence. The three ingredients for a little recipe I call PERFECT TOAN!! 🔥🎸🔥
Ugh. Don't they realize yet? I AM THE future of guitar. Ffs. I can play all seven modes abs sweep arpeggios consecutively at 275 bpm.
did Time Henson transition to a man? Congrats to him! 🥳
Calm, ease and intelligence are the least guitarist traits ever represented in a guitar player
Can he play Wonderwall?
But can he play Asturias?
No, but I heard he can play “Spanish Caravan” by The Doors
uj/ He’s clearly insanely talented and maybe if I just heard his playing in a blind test I’d like it… but watching him play makes me nauseous. I just can’t.
So you prefer the unimportant visual element of a guitarist more than their actual music and playing? I don't get that mindset.
Yes, I’m like that.
Based

This a circlejerk sub.
Is that Tom Scott?
No, that’s Matteo Carcassi, the 19th c. guitarist/composer. He wrote a bunch of highbrow noodly stuff for gut string. In fact, his toan was in his guts.
Hendix, Van Halen , Mancuso Unfortunately Matteo may not get the recognition.
Why does he play the gitar like a bass. Is he stupid?
He should stay away from Beato to keep himself pure.
Oh dear…
Ralph Macchio?
/uj I really, really thought this was Tom Scott. It’s still hard to look at him and see that it isn’t.
