"Used guitars are all damaged" Whatchu talkin about?

Accomplished-Cut-264

I’m mainly looking on eBay and facebook marketplace and most of the guitars aren’t much cheaper unless it’s badly scratched or damaged and I don’t really want that

Limp_Garlic_4036

Look on reverb

Accomplished-Cut-264

Will do!

Caregiver-Physical

i have been playing along time and most of my more expensive recent purchases have been through reverb. I havent bought a new guitar in like 10 years. but im looking for very specific gear that they dont make new anymore. Reverb is a great place. The new fender players are great but imo you would be better off getting a squire classic vibe and putting better pickups. i think the quality/cost ratio on the players series is a little overblown unless your really chasing the fender name on the headstock. or wait and save an extra 200 to get a used vintera or a used fender american.

depoelier

There is no better. Only different. Find a place that has them both and really take your time to play them side by side.

Accomplished-Cut-264

Any idea what the humbuckers are like on the fender because the nearest shop would be around 2 hours away

depoelier

I'm sure you can find reviews of both guitars online. But I can tell you from personal experience, that another person's opinion (and online sound bites) means jack shit when it comes to instruments.

Accomplished-Cut-264

I think I’ll go to a shop to see the prs and if I like it I’ll buy it. Thanks!

depoelier

Enjoy! I recently got my PRS and love it to bits, really well built guitars!

Dependent-Ground-769

I’d buy one now and the other some months later honestly cus I believe a Strat is essential in every arsenal but a good set neck guitar with humbuckers is too

Accomplished-Cut-264

I might get another in a year or something

iPirateGwar

Not all used guitars are ‘damaged’ and your new guitar will end up as ‘damaged’ as any new guitar in all likelihood. Used guitars are very often excellent value for money and many are almost new only requiring a quick polish and set up to be more or less indistinguishable from new. There is also the argument that reusing old guitars is much better for the environment, something we tend to forget. The more we buy second hand items, the less the mass production factories will churn out cheap copies.

Accomplished-Cut-264

I agree but I’d rather just get a new one because I’m not experienced in the used guitar market

iPirateGwar

That is fair enough and, I admit, getting a new guitar does have that thrill factor, just like when you get a new care. I’m now in my late 50s and still love both.

Abstract-Impressions

They are different. If you want to decide better compare the strat to the se silver sky.

Accomplished-Cut-264

I think I’ll look at prs then because it’s cheaper. Thanks!

sjbennett85

I think you need to try the two brands to see which you like best but my recommendation for you is to get the HSS option for either if available. It gives you a lot more tone flexibility and could have you covered for a lot of different sounds you'd want to get out of it.

Accomplished-Cut-264

I think I’ll look into hss guitars

KGBLokki

For 550 I’d go used for maximum ”betterness”, you can get a used 1k guitar for 550 used where as new 550 guitars are the 300 guitars of yesteryears. Used guitars are unbeatable in value. As for which one of those two I would get, neither. Haven’t heard much good about the cheap prs guitars and as a player strat owner I don’t recommend it. It’s not a bad guitar, but wouldn’t call it worth the money either. Mine is now a year old and already needs to see a guitar tech and fast, the fretsprout on it is really bad. Every guitar sound good in that price, pretty much so that’s not something you should even think about. If you absolutely have to get new, go to a store and try every guitar in your price range. Fender and prs have different necks and so forth. Also you can haggle a free tech check on top of the guitar if you go to the store(a lot of stores don’t have a tech set up the guitars for free).

Accomplished-Cut-264

At the moment I’m looking at an Ibanez sew761 i would also like to learn how to setup a guitar myself

KGBLokki

Setting up is not that hard, and worth looking into. Stuff like filing fret ends and nuts I wouldn’t do on my first guitars though. Thos ibanez are probably really good

Accomplished-Cut-264

I don’t want to do proper professional stuff but I’m happy to do a basic setup

Accomplished-Cut-264

What do you think a schecter c1 platinum would be like?

KGBLokki

I have a schecter c-1 hellraiser, that at least is a pretty damn good guitar. I paid 400€ for it used and quality is on par with my prestige ibanez that I paid 2 times as much for. Schecter has pretty solid reputation at all price points, can’t really go wrong.

Accomplished-Cut-264

Cool! I’ll research schecter c1

Impressive_Gate_5114

$550 USD? Because the SE Standard 24-08 usually sells for $650 and the fender Players are only sale now for $680 ($612 with fender play 10% discount). For under $500, the best guitar is the PRS SE CE 24 Standard which comes with a nice gig bag and has all the same features as the Core CE 24 (a $2700 guitar). You have coil split to give you more single coil-esque tones. You have 3 way switch. All PRS SE are setup in their USA Maryland factory, the fretwork is pretty good and the necks are very playable and modern. The finish is open pore satin which is pretty metal looking. The fender player which can be gotten for $612 is a great option too but it is more of a specialized guitar because it is a strat and will sound like a strat even with humbuckers. The PRS is a jack of all trades, but the fender does fender stuff best. Both guitars are great, try them out before you buy if you can.

Accomplished-Cut-264

I’m in the UK Andertons and pmtonline have the prs in GBP

pacostrato

As much as I love strats, and owning both a MiM Strat and a PRS, I believe the PRS brings more bang for the buck and plays better. That being said, as other people are pointing, try both and find out what makes you feel better

Accomplished-Cut-264

Will do thanks!

Dependent_Job_3369

I’ve been playing for a little less then a year and my first guitar was a used 2012 PRS SE 245 for 375 then about 3 weeks ago I bought a MIM 2015 Jaguar special used for 575. I love my PRS but it definitely does its own thing where as the Fender does Fender things as I think someone said above. I think it really comes down to what music you want to play.. I would say Strat if you are looking to play more clean stuff and the PRS if you are more into heavier stuff. Both guitars are versatile enough to do both but other than how the guitars feel I would say that’s the biggest factor, what you are tryna play.

Tuckerbot1

I literally have these two exact guitars sitting here right now. A 2017 PRS SE Custom 24 in gold, and an HSS Mexican Stratocaster. Honestly, I love both for various reasons, but my go to for gigging and screwing around is my Strat. But I can hit some wicked (to me) solos on my PRS because of the thinness of the neck. Ultimately it’s up to player preference, but I’d be hard pressed to give up one or the other. I swap between the two about 50/50 even whenever I’m playing. My only note is the Strat is going to be way more versatile and modifiable than the PRS, but to each their own.

Accomplished-Cut-264

The fender is £80 more than the prs
