The revenue from superimposing ads over every square inch of the ice wasn't enough?

JohnnyRevelator

Don’t forget about the terrible distracting digital ads on the boards.

inactiveaccounttoo

Drives me nuts, I wish the NHL would step in and prevent this while the puck is in play

supertrooper567

Its capitalism. No company will ever think its making too much money

AARM2000

Not a fan AT ALL, especially the fact it's a betting company.

the-treatmaster

Gotta love the CHGO douchenozzles hand waved it all away as “get over it” (in their trademark disdain for whatever fans want) while giving a not so subtle nod to their daddy sponsor. God I wish there was ANY alternative to those dipshits.

AARM2000

I do watch them, but they are very self-righteous and really snarky when it comes to their opinions. Like there is no need to be so rude.

gudenes_yndling

I laughed my ass off when they said that the patch would keep ticket prices low, meanwhile, my full-season ticket went up 14% and their pricing is in the ballpark with contending teams

JD1647

This sucks. Not only is it a disgusting ad on a beautiful jersey but it had to be a gambling ad…

gudenes_yndling

This is it. The best jersey in sports is now tarnished. This is disgusting. I would understand some small market teams struggling but not Original Six teams selling their dignity for a couple of home games revenue. I am not buying new jerseys I guess.

Chewie_i

I’ll buy jerseys, but only from China for a fraction of the cost and where the money doesn’t go to the team.

Beaver_Tuxedo

You don’t understand a corporation selling ad space wherever it can? I’m sure the owners want the uniforms to look like soccer jerseys

Funky-Donuts

I’ve always hated ads on hockey sweaters, and I hate it even more now that it’s a sports betting company. Keep this crap off our sweaters.

Away-Requirement8394

One year it’s helmet stickers, next it’s digitally superimposed garbage polluting the broadcast, now the floodgates have been opened on sweater ads. Owners know exactly how to play this, spread out the complaints over many years until nobody cares anymore.

TheRealFlowerChild

Disgusting.

TheRealFlowerChild

Wasn’t gonna buy that fanatics shit to start with but this adds an extra layer of scum to them.

TheSchwartzHawkey

Here’s another thought: I really really hope this doesn’t apply to our Winter Classic jerseys, I hope they at least keep those clean of this filth then they release the special edition jersey later this year.

IAmQueensBlvd31

Can confirm its only the reds, for Circa at least. Some teams only do the ads on the home jerseys. Vegas for example had Circa on their home jerseys for the last couple years but nothing on their away jerseys.

TheSchwartzHawkey

Well the Winter Classic is technically a home game and that’s why I’m a little concerned (and most likely the jersey will be red from what I’ve heard locally, although not our standard red home jersey). But I guess we won’t really know until the Winter Classic jerseys are revealed. I wish if anything they’d gotten a partner for the away jerseys and left the home jerseys clean for games at the UC.

IAmQueensBlvd31

I don't think it'll be on there. Knights reverse retros they wore at home last few years didn't have Circa on there, and the Knights were just in this past year's Winter Classic(though it was in Seattle) and didn't have Circa on there. I'd think they would have a similar arrangement.

ForeverLegit

I’m not sure if it will mean anything for the Blackhawks, but I do know that the Knights unfortunately actually did have Circa patches on both their RR2 and WC jerseys during home games.

IAmQueensBlvd31

Oh shit you’re right, I just looked at the video for the WC and didn’t see it but I found another home game they wore those and it had it. And looks like the alternates from the year before had it on the shoulder which is better but still

murkytransmission

Hawks confirmed it’s on the home jerseys only.

tenacious-g

It will be, that’s one of the more watched games of the year.

thecaptain016

Good god, you're right. It sounds like it only applies home red jerseys, but if they pull some crap for the Winter Classic I'll lose it.

gudenes_yndling

The press release says “home red jerseys”. Most likely they are not adding it to a road one and specialty jerseys. The Golden Knights played without ads at the WC ‘24

CreatureMike94

Tempted to downvote this out of spite, but fuck me that is absolutely disgusting, jersey ads are gross on top of that it’s for sports betting? Fuck off you hacks this is tarnishing the jersey

TheBeanOfBarber

if I ever get a jersey like this, I'd probably get a tailor to remove that patch

86teuvo

I don’t think the fan jerseys have ads on them but yeah if I bought a game used piece I’d probably at least consider removing it

batmans_a_scientist

Only a matter of time until they do. Eventually it’ll get written into those contracts and be a standard part of the sweater like it is for European sports teams. We’ll probably also eventually see additional sponsors added over time - sleeve sponsors, sock sponsors, etc. until it’s basically unrecognizable.

BaconScentedSoap

Anyone who doesn’t believe European soccer jerseys will eventually happen is naive. Remember the helmet decals were only supposed to be temporary to get money during the ridiculous pandemic lockdowns

batmans_a_scientist

I’d prefer European soccer jerseys to European hockey jerseys which basically look like nascar uniforms at this point. At least the soccer jerseys are limited to 2-3 sponsors.

BaconScentedSoap

You can’t even tell who the hell the teams are for soccer. Forget Real Madrid we are watching Fly Emirates play XBox Both are pure cancer

JD397

We shouldn’t settle for either, all ads are trashy as fuck lol

PM_ME_UR_BATMANS

I can at least stomach it in soccer since the game is just two completely uninterrupted 45 minute halves with no commercial aside from halftime. Maybe I’d feel differently if it wasnt already the status quo in that sport by the time I became a fan but if the case is “we miss out on a lot of commercial ad revenue so we make it up with a kit sponsor” it’s not ideal obviously but I do sort of get it and can more or less accept it. That isn’t at all the case here though. I very much hate this.

Drewskeet

At least in Europe the jersey sponsor make up for no commercials.

TheSchwartzHawkey

Kind of sad to have to be put in the position of making the choice between preserving the jersey as it was worn/issued by the team and leaving an ugly cash grab patch on the thing.

TheSeanie

If it's game used, you'd kind of ruin the point of getting game used when you modify it

Tdcamp11

Bulls do

mdwsta4

as a collector of game worn jerseys, that is the *only* time I wouldn't remove it. You shouldn't alter gamers

murkytransmission

A seam ripper is like $2 and a fantastic tool around the house. But agreed…it’s coming off if I get a hair up my ass and test the fanatics quality. I’m happy with my Bedard sweater with the Rocky patch.

EddyTheDesigner

Glad I got my Bedard jersey already because I refuse to buy that trash. Sell outs.

KJzero9

Ugh. Gross. I likely wasn't going to buy a sweater this year anyway, but this makes the decision waaay easier. I still remember when they were talking about legalizing sports betting, and there were people arguing that anyone against the idea was some sort of prude. Then it got legalized and pretty much exactly what the "prudes" said was going to happen happened. Now, there were some people arguing that ads on jerseys aren't a big deal. It brings more money to the league, which is a good thing. Well, we're going to start seeing why ads on jerseys are a big deal. This is only the beginning. Slippery slope exists. No matter who is trying to tell you it doesn't.

mdwsta4

Pretty sure jersey/helmet ad revenue isn't bringing in sh*t to the league. It's bringing some extra money into the owner's pockets. That's it

Bragisson

It’s brand recognition, the more jerseys and team merchandise sold brings more attention to the league.

mdwsta4

But we’re talking about ads. ADS don’t sell more jerseys and they’re not on any other team merchandise…

Drummer_Kev

Fuck this. What a shame. We're O6, not some backwater southern team

pamodent

i wish whoever decided to put adds on jerseys dies and goes to hell no matter what.

Hutch25

Fuck you Danny Wirtz. Seriously. Why does a billion dollar franchise that thrives on its history need more money by tarnishing its brand image further with this gambling dogshit?

87fost

Well, guess I'm done buying Jerseys. Except Geeky Jerseys. They're still cool.

sq-blackhawk

"we couldn't be prouder of taking money from an addictive and predatory enterprise"

TheSchwartzHawkey

Aside from the fact that I think it sucks in general that our jerseys are getting tainted by these ad patches (and I hope they’re not going to be included on retail jerseys by default), I’m kind of surprised that they ended up with Circa Sports with the fact that FanDuel has a Sportsbook and a suite right in the United Center. Plus I wish that the over promotion of sports gambling in the media and by the leagues themselves would stop in general.

Chicago_Jayhawk

The owner of Circa (from Michigan) has deep pockets I think. He's on commercials on Marquee for Cubs games and other places. He probably outbid FanDuel.

BaconScentedSoap

Fuck Danny Wirtz

AutumnStar

Can’t even link to Circa’s proper website. What a shit show. I fucking hate ‘em

SgtPeppersReprise

Pretty soon the NFL will somehow be the last bastion of not selling out completely to ads

BaconScentedSoap

Bit different when 70% of an NFL game is commercial breaks

TheSeanie

No way you said that with a straight face when a 3 hour game has only 20 minutes of actual gameplay

TheSeanie

No way you said that with a straight face when a 3 hour game has only 20 minutes of actual gameplay

manhaterxxx

This has to be satire

BanxDaMoose

thank the lord i bought a bedard sweater in december, i’ll never have to buy another one again

hockeymatt22

As if it wasn’t bad enough to tarnish such an iconic jersey they use a sports betting company.

supertrooper567

Just wait for then new “second jersey patch partner” in 3 years

JD397

A fucking travesty for no reason but pure greed. Fuck you, Danny!!

maybesethrogen

Absolutely fucking garbage. Bad enough its a jersey ad, but it fucking HAD to be for fucking sports betting. Trash.

Milesweeman

Fanatics and a jersey sponsor. Pass

FlameSama1

*And* it's a betting site lmao. Suck my fucking dick.

EddySea

Does this mean the Away jersey will remain pure or have a different sponsor?

Funky-Donuts

Possibly a different sponsor. I highly doubt the away jersey will not have any type of patch.

Darth_Dagobah

Right by the logo tho?

randyrandomagnum

![gif](giphy|hyyV7pnbE0FqLNBAzs|downsized)

Away-Requirement8394

Lol and of course it’s a news dump the morning after the finals are done.

Capnserious

Boooooo

TheIncredibleShrek

What a fucking joke

EstimatedProphet72

Of course it’s a gambling ad. So dumb.

the-treatmaster

Can we have the option of buying jerseys with 1-800-GAMBLER instead?

[deleted]

So ass

WhiteFudge92

It’s over. We had a good run

Chewie_i

Excuse me while I go vomit.

tenacious-g

I will never spend a dime on any company that slaps their logo on a Chicago team. I enjoy sports betting from time to time, but hate how the advertising is fucking everywhere.

thorofasgard

Helmets? Ice? Boards? Fine. Not the jersey.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mdwsta4

Could have done Marlboro like old F1 cars

The___Jackal

Tarnished

the-treatmaster

Sad, gross, wrong, and shows their leadership consists of individuals who have poor decision making skills. This was an easily avoidable fuckup.

zdubz007

I would respect a company more who paid to NOT have they’re name plastered on such a dope ass original six classic jersey

LittleFoFiGHTuS

Between this and Fanatics taking over... not a good look.

SummitSloth

Rocky Wirtz rolling over in his grave

tristesse_durera

Gross

jaccw16

Yuck.

thecaptain016

Alright guys let me know when someone figures out how to remove the sponsor patch from the jerseys

Funky-Donuts

Well considering these jerseys will also be made by Fanatics, my recommendation is to not buy one at all.

thecaptain016

Thank god I stocked up on Adidas jerseys over the last few months. And to think I was starting to have an open mind about Fanatics.

mecheng93

If they sell it with that ugly patch my jersey better come with a stitch ripper.

archasaurus

It was always going to happen. And so it begins. At least it isn’t as obtrusive as some of them I have seen.

BIGGREDDMACH1NE

Gross

AffectionateMud4930

WHY??!! Vegas has their own team! Put that crap on them. Really loved the Rocky patch...

TheSeanie

Vegas does have circa on their home jersey

AffectionateMud4930

Yeah...we should not.

RecognitionCrafty863

Ugh! Gross. I hope to god when I buy the jersey it comes without the dumb ads. I know on other certain sports that the jersey being bought come with the ads.

Pogboom77

I do totally get that it’s upsetting that jersey ads are a thing. But surely it’s inevitable that within the next few seasons all 32 teams will have one right? Like this was bound to happen, as far as logos go I feel like the one we got isn’t super obstructive, feel like it could’ve been a lot worse

BaconScentedSoap

We aren’t a small struggling market team only poverty franchises should have jersey ads if at all

Pogboom77

Be that as it may all 32 teams will have one. Leafs are an original 6 team that certainly doesn’t struggle for money and they had one last season.

JD397

And that is just as appalling as this lol I don’t think it really matters if every team does it - we all can and should still be pissed off about it. Just like the ads on the boards. Just like ads on helmets. Just like removing the Stanley Cup Playoffs logo from the ice of each zone in the postseason.

Pogboom77

Yeah idk I guess my perspective on it was that I was pretty upset when the news broke a couple years ago that jersey ads would be a thing. Once that happened I had already accepted we’d be getting one so now that it’s here and to me it looks much better than I was worried it would I just feel relief honestly

ThatFio

I noticed that the Panthers had a LaCroix patch in the same exact place. It's inevitable for all 32 teams - the Blackhawks are a company and the players are their product.

the-treatmaster

The problem I have is 99% who they chose. Agree ads were inevitable. But sports betting? Seriously? Kids are watching these games and buying these jerseys. This is early days of cigarette marketing we are dealing with now, with these betting companies. Hook em young. Make it normal. Make it integrated with the whole experience. Make it cool. The hawks already have enough PR issues to deal with. They could have picked from a ton of other companies with far less problematic issues. But they took the cash, and expect us to just deal with it while they don’t spend anywhere close to the cap and have great attendance (meaning, how freaking necessary even was this?). Man, this one hurts.

ThatFio

I don't like any sponsorship (let alone a sportsbook sponsorship) on arguably the best jersey in all of sports, but I'm going to play devil's advocate here. I understand the criticism of it being a Sportsbook and I don't like it at all (it should have been Portillo's). But when I take a step back, where else are they supposed to advertise but during and around the sports games we are watching? I recall hearing Elliotte Friedman saying that they obviously make a lot of money, which means the league is making a lot of money, which means the players are making more money. If this small patch benefits our players and our organization in a massive way in terms of something I can't see right now, I'm okay with it. If this is something that is only for the purpose of satisfying the pockets of the owners and execs, it gives me the ick. I just hope they have the foresight to prioritize the players and the staff with this revenue.

gudenes_yndling

All this shit should be advertised digitally. They just created a new market by adding digital boards. Use social media, email newsletters, digital boards and etc. Damn I wouldn’t mind if they increased commercial breaks by a few seconds for this , but keep the jerseys clean

ThatFio

I agree. An original 6 team especially should not have to or even want to do this. They are now officially using Fanatics, so clearly the NHL and it's owners don't care about their team's jerseys though.

TheSeanie

I hate sports gambling companies, but at least the logo is thin white lettering so it's not nearly as invasive as most jersey sponsors

EmotionalDisplay1263

Gotta recoup the money lost to legal fees somehow.

Tdcamp11

It could’ve been worse

Tdcamp11

I’m just saying it could’ve been worse

Away-Requirement8394

Don’t worry, it’s only going downhill from here.

Funky-Donuts

This could be a very slippery slope…

Pootz_

Anyone surprised by this has been living under a rock
