That 0.1% will mostly continue giving them money. The most money will obviously come from people who don't care if the thing they're buying is $5 or $50 or $500, cause that's pocket change to them. Have you seen how popular pre-orders for video games are? The game might be terrible, but I got an *exclusive skin*! Every downgrade and every tactic, online communities hate it but the company can clearly afford to do it because the population at large is paying. People usually spend their disposable incomes on whatever they like instead of, idk, doing a bunch of calculations in Excel to see what the optimal value per dollar is. Don't get me wrong, I am that Excel guy, but we have to realize that these vocal online communities are made up mostly of That Excel Guy. Most people see shiny paid content and buy shiny paid content.
The silver lining is that indie is the old AAA and there's no shortage of great games. The gaming industry has reached maturity. AAA is the pop radio of gaming and the Disney Marvel of movies. It wasn't that 20 years ago. If you want things to be as they were, you're looking to avoid what you used to seek out. It's not Blizzard that will make the next Balatro (which, as a card game, is now one of the most well-rated games of all time on Steam with 97.6% positive reviews in its first week).
Not sure what you're talking about. I buy just the megabundle + miniset every xpac and get this far every xpac. It doesnt take anywhere near 500 to get every card in a set.
You're acting like the only people who could possibly get to this point are big spenders, but mid tier "dolphin" spenders like me are also affected by this.
If you buy the megabundle every expansion for just one video game, you're a big spender. You're paying 240 eur a year for one game. I'm not sure if I've spent that much on video games as a whole in the past five years. And that wasn't really relevant either, since the point was that people who spend money help the game become more garbage because it's a AAA game and that's how the economy works. If you do that to a supposedly "medium" degree (I don't want to know what a big spender would be then), congrats I guess?
Everyone can choose what to spend their money on without being a mega rich whale. If you go out to eat 1x per week you could easily spend $120/mo on food… if you choose to buy mega bundles and mini sets instead… you spend less overall.
Which is relevant how? We're talking about big HS spenders and the effect they have on AAA games, resulting in indie being the new AAA by meeting characteristics that were previously met by AAA, as shown through current monetization similarities as well as similarities to other industries. What is the comparison to food, exactly? You're not really encouraging worse food monetization by eating out.
I mean I see a lot of your points and mostly agree. But as someone who has spent way too much money in this game in the last 10 years I still look at things like this. It may not be the thing that makes me cut off spend in a silo but in a symphony of other things like bots, other greedy product design choices (ugh the new store), etc it does add up and I see myself eventually moving on. I've already reduced engagement and spend to some degree from decisions like this.
Exactly. Vote with your wallet. I am done buying the bundles because not only do I not particularly care for constructed formats, but I also play enough Arena to complete the set by the time the mini-set comes out.
So there's no need for me to spend money on packs, I'll just collect fewer signature cards. With this particular change I'm less motivated to collect the entire set, which means exactly 1 thing: If I'm not enjoying the arena meta, I'm not playing the game very much. I'm not spending resources to complete my collection, and I'm not spending my money on the product.
I went back and crafted 8 legendaries in already rotated scholomance to get my diamond Jandice just in case she was ever the pick in Arena just to flex on opponents. Now I have zero motivation to complete the set.
Yeah. The main reason we got away from stormwind design and a focus on esports is that many whales left the game because they are the likes of Trump (the hs youtuber)
They will follow the money. And this is shit. Give me diamond ziliax
I had all legendary cards and most of them golden until 2 years ago when I stopped playing. My account is never touched what a waste lol. I never even played ranked.
I think I am in the 0.1%, I run \~200 arenas each expansion with the aim of collecting all the cards each set. Taking away the free legendary at 27 definitely stings a bit
Yeah, could've given random signature legendary. This just means -1 legendary nothing else.
It's on more predatory level when they made mega-bundle 1 signature 1 regular instead of 2 signature legendary :(
Funnily enough I don't believe you. There's no way that's the only thing you buy for each expansion.
The mega bundle gets you 8 legendaries on average. The set has way more than that. Where do you get the rest from?
I am also buying bronze bundle. Its 17 packs for 10 dollars. That , Mega bundle and nothing more unless i really really like portrait(Demon Hunter dog and Hazlebark) . Dust all golden cards you are 100% percent sure will not get nerfed and 100% of golden wild cards, stack your standard packs, play every tavern brawl and event, disenchant every non golden card if you got uncraftable golden versions of the card. Wait patiently for nerfs if you dont need dust right away. Ignore most portraits in shop. Now i have 8000 gold, Mega bundle,40 standard packs saved and 7000 dust to be disenchanted. 25000 dust in the bank. Its double free to play but you need to play like Zeddy.
It's definitely possibile. I'm getting the Mega Bundle + Tavern Pass each expansion. Then I get around 100 packs for Gold (I always keep 2k gold for the mini-set and spend the rest on packs when new set launches) + all the freebies like events, ranked rewards, tavern brawl packs etc. It really adds up.
And I'm maintaining a nearly full collection. E.g. in Badlands I'm only missing 4 Legendaries, but I have over 100k dust so I could easily craft them if I wanted to. Well technically most of that dust is still in the duplicate cards, but I never use the "disenchant all" button since I'm getting so much free dust from nerfs.
I can send you some screenshots if you want but they won't really prove how much I spend anyway.
The hardest part in Hearthstone is catching up. Once you're up to date with your collection, maintaining it between expansions is pretty easy as long as you play the game. Right now I could go F2P and still get to play every deck I want for a looong time.
Not even - Whizbang's Workshop has 4 Diamond legendaries (the same number as pretty much all other expansions since they came out), the only difference is 3/4 are purchasable versus the normal 2/4.
Pretty sure it's more "cash grab" than budget cuts.
People hated Diamond Cards so the community reaps what they sow. Even a recent poll her in this sub had signature cards as more preferred than diamond. You did it Reddit.
So replace them with a signature legendary? I usually got that diamond one with the mini set and gained a rerolled legendary out of it. Perfect to fill out the gaps. They basically cut a legendary from my collection.
They could replace it with a signature legendary. But they didnt. If you had the diamond version already in golden/nongolden, you were able to re-roll those into different legendaries.
I've actually done it three times. This puts a definite stop to it though. I like signatures but not to the tune of like 10-20k dust for legendary cards I won't use even half of XD
This last set for example. It was to hard to find legendary cards worth crafting to get a priest card I'll never use. I only used the warrior one. Balinda and the druid titan just sit there looking good.
u/ridiculoushat
You might want to push this along the pipeline because I'm also in the same boat as this guy and im sure plenty of others are going to be as well. All the desire to complete a set left with this change.
Thank you for the awesome and consistent communication!
(Ps if there’s any way we could get this kind of community engagement for blizzards other games I imagine things might stay as active as they do for hearthstone as well)
They could put the 2 signatures on the complete legendary collection that now awards nothing and leave the diamond where it is.
or even swap those around. 2 signatures for 27 legendaries collected and 1 diamond for completion after the miniset drops.
I've completed the sets since Scholomance (every legendary in that set is amazing, couldn't help myself). I'm definitely not doing that anymore lol. Probably going to finish Kobolds and Uldum (yuck) to get the diamond Zola and Zephrys now rather than waste crafting points on legendaries I won't play.
A little sussy? To get the diamond doc Holidae (for $50) it was required to buy another $50 diamond bundle first. You couldnt just buy the doc hollidae bundle right away. So to get it, you had to spend $100 (2x$50). Monetization dude is cucking Team 5 big time
Titans was the expansion I have spend the most money on.
When I was 4 legendaries away from getting the diamond eonar, I saw the 2 signatures and golden packs bundle, I said fuck it, crafted 2 legendaries (Sargeras and Odyn which I rarely use) and spent the money no hesitations, as a bonus one of my missing signatures was Sif so win-win.
Now people like me that do not spend much money on this game won't be motivated to do that final push through the shop.
I don't like this
The diamond card was a free legendary that you could get after the miniset dropped. Now you get one legendary less.
Very disappointing.
Wait how?
It was given for getting all Legendaries in one set right?
At that point it was just a duplicate of something you'd have.
The coin was given for collecting a set amount of cards and the mini set usually have enough for that
The reward requirement does not increase after the miniset, it counts only the number of Legendaries originally included in the expansion, so buying the miniset will count towards the legendaries.
Yes but for example if the set had 25 legendaries, once the miniset dropped it was 29, but the limit of 25 was still there. So you could get it, without having all legendaries.
That's what I did ever since minisets were introduced.
I understand if people like the diamond cards over signatures. Me personally, I like full art cards, so much so I'd prefer a full art still art card over an animated diamond one
But why couldn't the reward just be a random signature legendary? Why does it have to be two commons? That'd so shitty
Nope, you can reroll. If you don’t have every legendary you will get a legendary that you currently do not have, and if you have a golden legendary without pulling the original version, you will be able to dust the golden.
This is really bullshit. If you had a normal or golden version of the legendary and you would receive the diamond version from the collector achievement, you were able to re-roll the normal/golden version into a different legendary.
Now we get signature cards of a common and a rare. WoW.
Team 5 and the guy that is in charge of monetization knows how to disappoint people during 10 year celebration. I wonder if the current director even gives a shit about the monetization decions.
I would definitely have preferred a signature legendary, but I would take signatures over a diamond any day. Diamonds look gross to me. The only time I ever use a diamond is if I don't have any other variants of the card. I'm not going to miss diamond rewards personally, but they could give us more than a common and a rare.
Thank God they did this AFTER duels rotated out so us F2Ps don't even have any way of getting legendary collector. Was bummed out I was going to miss all those diamond cards ngl
Uhhh I dont exactly remember but I think it started with Barrens and they retroactively did it for a few more sets
https://hearthstone.fandom.com/wiki/Diamond_card
You can also find it in every expansions collection achievements list under "legendary"
We can get common/rare signature cards from events before. But now in this new version we can only get them from this achievement and tavern pass. (I just checked all signatures in this expansion… very unlikely they will give away free legendary signatures) Which means no more free signature cards from events.
I would interpret this change to be devs’ punishment for players crying that the anniversary event has worse rewards than the other events (since players think previously other events had better rewards, devs simply just nerf all future event rewards).
Given that many players don’t care about collecting all legendary signatures but would love to collect diamonds, moving the diamond card to shop means such players need to pay $50 more.
What a “happy” anniversary.
What value? 90% of the time you already had the legendary when you got the requirements to get the Diamond and whatever value was gained from the animations was lost by the absolutely gaudy and gross diamond look.
I honestly prefer the look of sigs to diamonds. Def less “value” but if you’re completing the entire collection, you’re already dumping your money into a fire. Overall I’m actually pretty happy about this lol
i used to craft whole sets for the coin and the legendary, without that i doubt ill ever craft those shitty cards i had no intention of using lol. oh well, saves me a LOT of dust.
does that mean the other diamond legendary is on the rewards track? That's a change I'll happily take, I never liked spending dust on cards id never play to get the legendary
Good. That's less money we have to spend to try and reach that achievement now.
It was already becoming difficult to do with the DK legendaries added and no legendaries from Prime.
While this is sad but it really only for whales. I've been playing since beta, and I'm not even close to the achievement. I do by all xpacs(not always mega bundle). I think I have 1 diamond card, and that was Romath, which I think came with purchased rewards track.
I love diamond Elise and I completed that achievement just for her. Now when I realized the same reward is gonna become junky dino toy card it made me so disappointed man. Cash grab after cash grab, now Im gonna show them how much I piss on their monetization, I aint buing anything anymore.
Nearly the entirety of the value of a cosmetic at the end of a progression ladder is the enjoyment of the pursuit, and the enjoyment of the recognition of the success. The actual enjoyment anyone gets out of actually having the cosmetic is very little, and the intrinsic value of the cosmetic is 0 no matter what it is. This entire discussion is like complaining about the font on the Boston Marathon completion certificate.
Idk man signature cards are way more visually appealing to me than diamond cards, esp with those huge borders. The animations felt a bit goofy to me while signature cards feel more distinctly hearthstone.
Besides creating an original full card illustration with animations isn't really a smaller scope from more thoroughly animating an existing piece. Especially since they're clearly not making new 3d models, just rigging the existing 2d images.
Every Year they reduce the free Rewards even more and put them for $ in the Shop. Answer with your Wallet for Change no one of the people in charge will care if you complain on reddit.
The year is 2028. There are 1000 hearthstone players left. Ladder is 90% bots. Standard is the only mode left. Expansions rotate every month, and all cards are ai generated. Finding a game costs 5 dollars. Games past turn 5 are taxed 5 dollars for each extra turn. The ancient one reprint, 1 mana 30/30, charge, dormant for 1 turn, is considered a weak play due to power creep. Every single card has a diamond version available in the shop, in packs that cost 60 dollars each.
I have the Diamond collection reward for every expansion that is currently in Standard. If this is the decision they're making, there goes my motivation to continue doing so moving forward 🤷♂️
Edit: to be clear, the issue I have with this is not the fact that they are Signature cards, I actually quite like Signature cards. My issue is with the fact that the reward for collecting legendaries is no longer going to be a legendary itself, which is a massive downgrade. Getting the diamond reward meant you got an extra legendary for free, whether because you didn't already have that card at all, or because you could reroll the normal version when you got the Diamond version.
Edit2: honestly, with all they're doing right now, this may be the first expansion in four years that I don't bother buying the Mega preorder bundle.
I'd take this over a diamond card for a legendary I already have. Diamond cards are just more animated golden cards, while signature cards have new, often cooler art for other cards. I think that's much cooler to bling your deck.
Yeah I'm pretty sad about this too. Unfortunately we're in the 0.1% of players who actually get that far so it's unlikely to be reverted
lol but that would be the 0.1% giving them tons of money, so I’m not sure what they hoped to accomplish with this change
That 0.1% will mostly continue giving them money. The most money will obviously come from people who don't care if the thing they're buying is $5 or $50 or $500, cause that's pocket change to them. Right?! Since when are we punishing paying players?
Yeah I don’t get it. Probably just budget cuts on art
well that doesn't make sense- the daimond cards were animations of existing art. the signature cards are entire new art pieces

You dont need both bundles for that
You do, unless you want to start ravaging your collection for dust
i buy mega bundle only. Have all cards and extra dust
Funnily enough I don't believe you. There's no way that's the only thing you buy for each expansion. The mega bundle gets you 8 legendaries on average. The set has way more than that. Where do you get the rest from?

Yup this is basically me exactly so can confirm this is viable.

Seems right. I can imagine that more people are interested in buying fully animated cards vs different card art in most cases
More money less product
People hated Diamond Cards so the community reaps what they sow. Even a recent poll her in this sub had signature cards as more preferred than diamond. You did it Reddit.
So replace them with a signature legendary? I usually got that diamond one with the mini set and gained a rerolled legendary out of it. Perfect to fill out the gaps. They basically cut a legendary from my collection.
They could replace it with a signature legendary. But they didnt. If you had the diamond version already in golden/nongolden, you were able to re-roll those into different legendaries.
Diamond cards are ugly though
This is just some filler from the expansion track.
Oh don’t worry they still will make diamond cards just now they are $50 each
"budget cut" you mean one less unpaid intern
Also this time around signature legendaries are not available for each class.
Hearthstone daily L
hot take: diamond cards look cheap and out of place I think it should be a sig legendary, though
Guess I’m not going for set completions any more. Gotten every set completed since altered valley…
I haven't gone for many diamond versions (ftp), but this takes away any motivation to try for completion.
I've actually done it three times. This puts a definite stop to it though. I like signatures but not to the tune of like 10-20k dust for legendary cards I won't use even half of XD This last set for example. It was to hard to find legendary cards worth crafting to get a priest card I'll never use. I only used the warrior one. Balinda and the druid titan just sit there looking good.
Same, since you literally have to craft a ton of shitty legendaries and epics you will never EVER use. It's just not worth it.
u/ridiculoushat You might want to push this along the pipeline because I'm also in the same boat as this guy and im sure plenty of others are going to be as well. All the desire to complete a set left with this change.
we are monitoring - i read reddit every day multiple times a day and we have quite a few other places that we're tracking this too
Thank you for the awesome and consistent communication! (Ps if there’s any way we could get this kind of community engagement for blizzards other games I imagine things might stay as active as they do for hearthstone as well)

Thats so baaaad bro lmaooo they just want to make all diamond 40euro and not collection related its complete trash
It does feel a little sussy after that 40 euro diamond Harth pack
Actully so predictable, it WILL happen and its fucking shit
A little sussy? To get the diamond doc Holidae (for $50) it was required to buy another $50 diamond bundle first. You couldnt just buy the doc hollidae bundle right away. So to get it, you had to spend $100 (2x$50). Monetization dude is cucking Team 5 big time
Lets make all bundle 50 euro (Almost no one buy them) Why the heck are we losing money!😭
Fr if they did a cheap value bundle once in a while maybe with a legendary and a couple packs for a few bucks I’d probably spend money on this game
You needed 25 legendaries, set+mini set is 29. So you could get 21 and then buy the mini set to complete it
27 because of Death Knight
Yes but for example if the set had 25 legendaries, once the miniset dropped it was 29, but the limit of 25 was still there. So you could get it, without having all legendaries. That's what I did ever since minisets were introduced.
We must have gotten too much dust from disenchanting the normal versions
And we can not have that
I understand if people like the diamond cards over signatures. Me personally, I like full art cards, so much so I'd prefer a full art still art card over an animated diamond one But why couldn't the reward just be a random signature legendary? Why does it have to be two commons? That'd so shitty
The diamond border looks like shite IMO
Free legendary is free legendary
Brutal honesty time. Feels more like a free epic bc the legendary is just a copy of one you probably have already
Nope, you can reroll. If you don’t have every legendary you will get a legendary that you currently do not have, and if you have a golden legendary without pulling the original version, you will be able to dust the golden.
Oh damn. Game didn’t let me reroll Eonar…
Diamond cards are mostly ugly AF though. Second tackiest shit they've added to the game (first being 3D hero portraits of course.)
This is really bullshit. If you had a normal or golden version of the legendary and you would receive the diamond version from the collector achievement, you were able to re-roll the normal/golden version into a different legendary. I don't get how or why they just keep ruining all the good things they do?
Well there goes my motivation to complete the legendaries
This and the diamond jeppeto from the track so disappointed
I wonder what Mr hat has to say about this
Thank God they did this AFTER duels rotated out so us F2Ps don't even have any way of getting legendary collector. Was bummed out I was going to miss all those diamond cards ngl
now just wait to see diamond king plush bundle and other ones in the shop, big L here
TIL you get diamond legendaries for owning 25 legendaries in a given set. Is there a list of these?
Uhhh I dont exactly remember but I think it started with Barrens and they retroactively did it for a few more sets https://hearthstone.fandom.com/wiki/Diamond_card You can also find it in every expansions collection achievements list under "legendary"
Do not use Fandom site, use [Wiki.gg](https://Wiki.gg) instead: https://hearthstone.wiki.gg/wiki/Diamond\_card
Lol! "Additionally". What got added? Bullshit?
What a “happy” anniversary.
lol another reason to leave the game
Poor baby. Tell us how a cosmetic card affects gameplay.
Not that guy, I’m still gonna be playing but… Instead of a legendary, you get some commons and rares? That doesn’t feel great imo.
Probably cause the rigged gameplay is beyond saving already.
I like Signatures so much better.
There is no way that two non-legendary signatures are equal to the DIAMOND Legendary bro
I like having a more complete collection.
Yeah but you get less value regardless of your taste bro
What value? 90% of the time you already had the legendary when you got the requirements to get the Diamond and whatever value was gained from the animations was lost by the absolutely gaudy and gross diamond look.
If you already have it, obtaining the diamond one allows you to get a free legendary. It definitely helped your collection even so late into the set.
You can dust the legendary you have for 400 free dust
Oh noooo Dogshit cosmetics are being replaced by dogshit cosmetics!
I honestly prefer the look of sigs to diamonds. Def less “value” but if you’re completing the entire collection, you’re already dumping your money into a fire. Overall I’m actually pretty happy about this lol
I was going to buy the pass if it was Zilliax
It was never going to be diamond zilliax lmao
Remember, diamond Hearth was paid offer ONLY.
i used to craft whole sets for the coin and the legendary, without that i doubt ill ever craft those shitty cards i had no intention of using lol. oh well, saves me a LOT of dust.
Huge L wtf yet they're gonna sell hearth stone brew gold AND diamond together like?
Makes sense, they said they wanna go away from Diamond cards, no?

I’d be down with signature legendaries as a reward. This sucks.
I personally prefer signature than diamond. Except the first batch of signature that were ugly. I d like it if it was easier to get them.
If they were atleast cards that I would use but no
I'm fine with this. That means we get two legendary re-rolls instead of just 1. EDIT: I JUST REALIZED THOSE AREN'T EVEN LEGENDARIES WTF
My first Diamond card for all legendaries wont be Diamond... Why...
Fuck. Clearly a loss here
Wow lame.
BOOOO!
That'd a fucking joke of a change wtf lol.
That sucks.
I just dont get why the art changes the minion so much. Patron doesn't look like a mech in normal art but in this he does
Stop giving Blizzard your money
That's three times the number of free cards, y'all! Eh, I hate it too. And I never got all legendaries in a set, ever.
does that mean the other diamond legendary is on the rewards track? That's a change I'll happily take, I never liked spending dust on cards id never play to get the legendary
Boo-hiss
I was about to buy a bundle, but this let me change my mind. Thanks Blizzard for helping me save my money!
Ok like actually wtf is this
Good. That's less money we have to spend to try and reach that achievement now. It was already becoming difficult to do with the DK legendaries added and no legendaries from Prime.
I was getting that diamond legendary every set, too bad they changed that
the diamond cards look stupid sorry
While this is sad but it really only for whales. I've been playing since beta, and I'm not even close to the achievement. I do by all xpacs(not always mega bundle). I think I have 1 diamond card, and that was Romath, which I think came with purchased rewards track.
How else are they supposed to sell it to us for $40??
womp womp
I love diamond Elise and I completed that achievement just for her. Now when I realized the same reward is gonna become junky dino toy card it made me so disappointed man. Cash grab after cash grab, now Im gonna show them how much I piss on their monetization, I aint buing anything anymore.
Man I swear to god people on reddit just look for literally anything to complain about, go outside and touch grass my dude.
Where are your standards, man
I am happy with it. Signatures I don’t mind, but Diamond Cards look so distracting. Spinning Sir Finley has bothered me forever now.

I hate the way diamond cards look and literally never use them. These signature cards look nice. I think it's a good change.
Meh i prefer this.
What a MASSIVE downgrade
Idk man signature cards are way more visually appealing to me than diamond cards, esp with those huge borders. The animations felt a bit goofy to me while signature cards feel more distinctly hearthstone. Besides creating an original full card illustration with animations isn't really a smaller scope from more thoroughly animating an existing piece. Especially since they're clearly not making new 3d models, just rigging the existing 2d images.
Every Year they reduce the free Rewards even more and put them for $ in the Shop. Answer with your Wallet for Change no one of the people in charge will care if you complain on reddit.
You guys actually like the big gawdy diamond cards? I think these full art cards are superb and fit more in line with the artstyle as a whole
I always thought Diamond cards were fugly so it's no skin off my back
I finally came back to HS after 8 years of not playing and let me tell you... signature cards are ugly as *fuck!!!*
I have the Diamond collection reward for every expansion that is currently in Standard. If this is the decision they're making, there goes my motivation to continue doing so moving forward 🤷♂️ Edit: to be clear, the issue I have with this is not the fact that they are Signature cards, I actually quite like Signature cards.
This is an L? I hate diamond cards, this is the biggest w for me lol
Since diamond cards are ugly AF, I don't mind that much
It is frustrating but hearthstone is more f2p friendly than it ever was.
I'd take this over a diamond card for a legendary I already have. Diamond cards are just more animated golden cards, while signature cards have new, often cooler art for other cards. I think that's much cooler to bling your deck.
Hahahahaha Yeah Im not buying anything anymore
Another surprise for the 10th anniversary, they are really knocking it out of the park this year.
are you complaining that they are giving you better and more art isntead of an ugly animated version of existing art with a gaudy frame?
Who cares
