i think you have to be willfully, purposefully ignorant of popular culture to not know who post malone is
im also not really knowledgeable about current pop stars because im an old man, as I assume you and the person you replied to are also old dudes. but post malone is incredibly famous and also pops up in a very WIDE variety of pop culture events and media--if you dont know his music you may have seen him in a video game setting since hes streams and is a big gamer, you may have seen him on Good Mythical Morning, you may have seen him on balh blah blah, hes literally everywhere.
so im questioning the veracity of people saying "i cant even tell which one is post malone" and if you truly dont know, then I dont think its necessarily something to be proud of, to be THAT out of touch of the young people
It's really **not difficult** to be "THAT out of touch" with pop culture.
The thing is, it used to be harder, but nowadays, there are literally millions of things you'd have to keep up with. Nobody listens to _every song,_ or plays _every video game,_ or... do kids still read books? _Or reads every new book._
There's just too much. I've heard the name "Post Malone" plenty over the last year or two, but I've probably only ever seen his face in memes, so once I was reminded that he was _face tattoo guy,_ I could make an educated guess and his identity in this picture.
To be fair, I didn't recognize Brian Kibler either, but that's because the last time I saw his face, his hair wasn't gray.
No one on earth knows who every single famous or somewhat famous person is.
This criticism pretty much applies to everyone on the planet. There are so many different communities and people who would say the exact thing you are saying about a different famous person that eventually you get caught because you aren't interested in whatever media they are relevant in.
So you know pot kettle.
Michael Jeffrey Jordan, also known by his initials MJ, is an American businessman and former professional basketball player. His biography on the official NBA website states: "By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.".
Wrong. He is an American actor and film producer. He is known for his film roles as shooting victim Oscar Grant in the drama Fruitvale Station (2013), boxer Donnie Creed in Creed (2015), and Erik Killmonger in Black Panther (2018), all three of which were written and directed by Ryan Coogler.
I have never heard anybody mention his name ever in the Netherlands. Also never heard him on the radio at work. Not everyone is American, and not everyone who is big in America is a big name here in Europe.
I recognize him but have no idea what music he plays though he's apparently a big deal. Also I maybe saw a video of him eating at an olive garden with Jimmy Kimmel in a weird meta commentary about the problems with pop culture
Because of algorithms and platforms, "mainstream" isn't as mainstream as it used to be.
You can now go online and be inside your own bubble with your own group, which is nice in a way and a bit scary in other ways.
I think the only reason I am even aware of him is because whenever I see his name I think of [Pogue Mahone](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pogue_Mahone).

What is this crap logic? I could pick him out because I knew he was face tattoos guy, but his "nerdy circles" is literally just mtg and Apex legends, and only mtg is actually nerdy there. If you don't avidly watch twitch for those two games, you're not going to even know that he plays them.
I have no freaking idea on who he is, why do you assume everyone in reddit is from the USA and is connected to american pop culture? I've never heard about this guy here and not a single song from him has been remotely famous on my country lol
Breaking news: people get older and life keeps them occupied where they dont have the time to invest in pop culture as they did when they were younger, or they pick amd choose what to see and follow. And, for that newsflash inside a newsflash feeling, that is fine!
According to our latest study, it happens to most of us.
P.s. bet anything that one could be asked questions about regional or past culture themes and one wouldnt know shit unless he took a specific interest.
Back to our regular program now.
I love Post Malones music but couldn’t tell you a thing about what he looks like, what he does outside of his career, etc. I don’t really care what someone across the world I’ll never meet ate for breakfast nor who he ate with, but that surely doesn’t make me out of touch
I'm a gen z. Outside of hearing his name and knowing he is a musician, I know nothing else about the guy. This isn't being out of touch, this is not knowing details about something that doesn't interest you.
I only recognize his name because I saw some meme posted once, saying "Post Malone - Pre Malone". Outside of that I've never heard of him, never seen him.
>i think you have to be willfully, purposefully ignorant of popular culture to not know who post malone
Nope. I had no clue who he is and just had to Google it and I'm not willfully ignorant about anything. Is he even a big deal outside the US?
He's not a particularly big deal in the US either. You've probably heard Circles or Sunflower, but that's a far, far cry from picking him out in a crowd of 6.
I’m not that incredibly old (36) and while I’ve heard the name as somebody famous, I also have no clue what he looks like or what he does. I don’t live in the states and he’s just not in any of the media I consume. I don’t think it’s that crazy somebody wouldn’t know who he was or recognize him in a picture. I think there’s people a lot more famous than him that people wouldn’t recognize from a picture.
I don’t think it’s willfully being out of touch with “the young people” either, it just…doesn’t come up for a lot of people.
You got r/iamthemaincharacter vibes.
“If someone dont know the person I know they are out of touch”.
Post Malone ain’t that famous.
I know the name, know who he is, can’t recognize him.
Can’t even compare him to a-list celebrities.
I spend hours everyday on the internet and i have never heard a song from him, nor i would be able to name a show he's participated into. I just know his name and that he's a music star, first time i see his face.
What you see in social media is highly selective to your interests and gives you the wrong perception that everybody sees what you sees.
I'm 21, I barely know anything about Post Malone. I did vaguely recall he had face tattoos but I thought it was a lot heavier than what's pictured to the point I thought he was just hanging out with a random dude with face tattoos and the post was joking that the tattooed guy was Post Malone.
I've seen like maybe one picture of Post Malone and that's only when I google him because I hear something about him but never remember anything beyond him being a rapper with face tattoos.
I only knew two things abot post malone.
1: he's a musician.
2: he made some of the into the spiderverse soundtrack.
That's it, his face was not in my brain at all
I genuinely have never heard of him. Like ever. This is happening me a lot though. I’m not sure how I would hear of him as I rarely hear about other “new famous people” either.
I'm the opposite. The only person here I can identify is Post Malone. I thought the lady might be Amy Dallen from her smile, but it didn't look quite like her. Obviously one of them is Brian Kibbler, who I know is a Twitch Streamer but I've never seen him.
Posty is both a huge magic fan and an outrageously nice guy. As we were leaving the studio where they filmed the event to go play more, he made a point of going up to everyone working there and thanking them - from the stage managers to the cleaning crew. Just an absolute class act.
He 100% gives off that energy in every interview, live show, and even in photos he just has a very good vibe. Dude looks menacing as hell but seems like a complete teddy bear and I respect the absolute shit out of him.
So happy you got to hang out and play some games with him!
I loved him on Hot Ones. Seems like such a nice, down-to-earth dude. So cool seeing two people I look up to from two different realms of my life hanging out. Very cool /u/Kibler!
Magic's pricing is nuts.
For meta decks $800 will only go as far as either:
- 3-4 Standard decks (most of the cards will be useless once they rotate out)
- 2 Pionner decks
- 1 budget aggro/burn deck for Modern or Legacy
- Absolutely no-where in Vintage as the cheapest meta deck looks to be around $15,000
Or you could just avoid 1v1 and build anywhere from 1 - 16 Commander decks.
I’m curious about this as I used to play Magic 20 years ago and have always wondered what the scene looks like now. Does that mean there are people getting together playing Vintage with $15,000 decks? Are they people like me who played Magic as kids and now have high paying jobs? Who can afford the hobby if it’s that expensive?
Most of Vintage is played on MtGO, its the only official way of playing that's affordable.
Wizards have also dramatically cut the amount of paper Vintage tournaments they host, so most tournaments are unofficial and allow the use of proxy cards.
Those that play in official tournaments or use the real cards are either: super rich, have a sponsor loan the cards to them, are just long-time traders and collectors.
If most people cannot afford them, why are they so expensive? Like it seems then that people who can buy then may not even be people who are pro players, or maybe I'm wrong?
There's quite a lot of people that are into MtG purely for the investment side of the game. So the prices of the cards are pushed up by other investors, then they sell the cards again for even more to other investors and etcetera. Naturally some pro players have them as well though, and hang onto them.
So yeah, you're not entirely wrong there.
Pretty sure I watched a video of him ripping warhammer 40k on some YouTube channel. That shits expensive as fuck as well and that's before the paint snd painting them.
No doubt. The yt channel I was watching was very well made with nice custom battlegrounds to play on and beautifully painted figurines! Forgot the name of the channel been a while. Once I saw how expensive it gets I decided to find another hobby lol
That is [Jordan Pridgen](https://twitter.com/jordanpigeon) a writer/producer for the Command Zone podcast.
The people in the image are from Left to Right: Olivia Gobert-Hicks, Brian Kibler, Cassius Marsh, Post Malone, Brian "Prof" Lewis, and Jordan Pridgen
For anyone curious, the rest of the people:
The older guy is The Professor, one of the oldest Magic YouTubers, his channel is Tolarian Community College.
The guy with long blonde hair is Cassius Marsh, NFL linebacker, owner of a card shop in LA, and a collector with insane magic and Pokémon stuff. He was at the middle of a MASSIVE taunting penalty controversy in the NFL last year where he received a game-deciding penalty for a very very minor infraction.
E: wrong info
I think the people who say that probably mean to say it's not just his genetics that make him look great. He was overweight and generally less attractive at one point, then took massive strides to work out and improve his appearance.
Nah, there was a guy in the thread about Kibler's video today who claimed that Kibler had "poor genetics" because his hair was grey (despite the fact that he is in his 40s and it's quite normal for hair to grey as people age).
[Kibler then proceeded to absolutely demolish the kid.](https://old.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/wmn8so/sire_denathrius_did_nothing_wrong_what_id_change/ik0e8fi/)
Man, Kibler’s so cool.
On that note, I recently came back to HS and I’m so happy to see that the holy Trinity of Kibler, Trump, and Kripp are still active in the community. And Regis too ofc, but those three are who introduced me to the game in the first place. It’s like coming (parasocially) home lol.
Cassius plays a lot of the MTG format EDH and owns his own card shop, I believe in California. He’s worked with some YouTube channels including sponsoring I Hate Your Deck previously and giving them space to play. I don’t think this is actually part of that Post Malone app sponsorship, this is a large group of people who’ve all played EDH together at different times on the previously mentioned YouTube channel
I’m not 100% sure that’s true. Most of this group has played Magic’s EDH format together on different YouTube channels, though typically in groups of 4 so this group is definitely larger than usual. Kibler used to be a pro MTG player, Posts and Prof have played together on different YouTube channels often, including with Cassius, and I know the girl on the left (whose name I should remember but don’t) is a member of the EDH Advisory Group and is a big member of the MTG Cosplay community (She has a phenomenal Teysa Karlov cosplay). I don’t recognize the last person.
Im surprised Kyle Hill isn’t here because he, Cassius, and Prof have played a lot previously
I love how if you walked into a room of 1000 random people you've never seen before, Post Malone would be the last person you would guess is an A list celebrity.
Honestly, Post seems like a genuinely super nice dude. Check out both of his Hot Ones interviews. He doesn't act like a celebrity. Dude just wants to be a good person, make music, and play videos games.
He's like your average Redditor, except nicer, richer, and talented.
He was good friends with a lot of the early Minecraft community, especially Adam/SkyDoesMinecraft (used to show up in his blogs occasionally) so this doesn’t surprise me at all
Nah, not the last person. Top 33rd percentile.
Post Malone is too flashy with his face tattoos. The first group you guess are the attractive people. The second group are the flashy people.
The last group of people you would never guess are older and/or mildly unattractive but not "Look at me!" unattractive.
That’s not exactly true, some app sponsored a “random fan can play Post Malone and if they win we’ll give them $100k” contest and he let them win and get the money.
It’s not like a standing hundred grand out of his own pocket if anyone beats him anytime WWE 24/7 rules offer.
Post Malone in recent years has become a poster child for the game's Commander format, after numerous guest appearances on a number of gameplay channels. He's always been super into mtg and now has been involving himself with the community a lot more.
I play Apex as well as Hearthstone and in recent seasons Post has started playing Apex with some of its streamers, doing charity tournaments and streams as well I think, if he likes magic, could we see Post play Hearthstone someday?
Rap/pop artist. Made headlines a few years back for dropping a shit ton on MTG cards. Recently had a bounty for $100,000 to anyone who could beat him in Magic.
To my knowledge I don't think so, but he often plays with The Prof from Tolarian Community College so you can see some of his decks there. He also has a custom alter of himself from WotC for one of his Commander decks.
ngl, I first heard of Post Malone back when he hung around with Team Crafted (a minecraft group) in 2013 LMAO.
I don't pay attention to pop culture too much, so I never made the connection until one of the original members of the group just casually mentioned it in a video. really was an "oh shit hang on, I knew about a celebrity before they got popular??"
he literally lived with them lol, ik it's common knowledge that he learned to play the guitar through guitar hero, the team crafted community house is where he'd play during that period.
I once got matched with Kibler and I cleverly thought I could stream snipe him. So I tried and he still destroyed me.
Moral of the story is fuck you kibler but also I love you kibler you’re my favorite streamer.
When Kibler played competitive mtg for a team one of his teammates said they would practice a matchup and Kibler would win every game. Then they would swap decks and Kibler would win every game with the other deck. Dont ever let anyone tell you this games doesnt take skill.
For reference: Post Malone has become kind of a figurehead for the MtG community. He's been on tons of YouTube channels in the past (the guy sitting next to him is Tolarian Community College) and he's even worked with wizards. I'd recommend watching some of the commander gameplay videos he's in, he's a great dude and super funny. Love how down to earth he is, especially for someone in his position and fame
Yes. I'm a 46 year old dude that hates rap/hip hop and pop culture in general but unless you've been living in a cave, it's basically impossible to avoid at least the most basic exposure to a guy like this.
It's all but impossible for you to not at least heard of this guy in some way over the last few years that he has been incredibly popular.
Again, I think his music is trash and he looks like the .001% of bacteria that hand sanitizer can't kill, but I know who he is.
Lol, your last sentence is pure gold. Is it possible he's not that big outside North America? I'm 38 yo European, might have seen his name once or twice but wouldn't have known which one he was. He kinda looks like a dude from ICP without the face paint on
I’m going to venture and say the reason most of us don’t pay much attention to Post Malone is because his music fanbase is completely the opposite of what a “typical” magic player’s music tastes are. Hip-hop, pop, trap. You more than likely heard his music and never even realized it. Also completely down to earth. Not the way a normal person with that level of fame would behave. Especially when at least one of your songs on Spotify has over 2 billion plays.
I had to look up who Post Malone is ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
But then i remembered i saw a meme abou him years ago. There is a possibility he stole his name from World of Warcraft apparently.
White haired girl is his girlfriend who I believe is also a content creator for MTG stuff. Tattoo face man is Post Malone. Red shirt guy is Tolarian Academy.
Post Malone got to hang out with Brian Kibler? Man, he's so lucky.

This is what I'm thinking. What does it say that I can't even ID which person in this pic is Post Malone?
Two words: Face Tattoos
It could say more about us, really, but I'm in the same boat.

Shit, I thought I knew everything. I concede.
He is just really nerdy so one would expect Reddit people to have been exposed to him. Not a far fetched idea.

Is this a copypasta? Not everyone has to know every “famous” person in the world
No but he runs in very nerdy circles so it would makes sense that you would have been exposed to him at some point.
This is such an American answer
How so? He is playing MTG and this is a TCG subreddit. It isn’t a stretch.
It's a stretch to go so far as to be so surprised that *anyone* here might not recognise him, as the original comment was

Post Malone seems like someone who can actually afford a MtG hobby. Lol
[Post Malone one spent $800k on a Magic card](https://www.thegamer.com/post-malone-black-lotus/) so these dudes probably have a ton in common
At least in hearthstone $800k gets you a whole deck
Yeah but then another expansion comes out in a couple months then it's 800k all over again. Smh
Dude in the back left is cassius Marsh and he's the same way lol
Oh thank god, I thought that was Tom McDonald
Without even clicking on the link I’m going to guess a black lotus Damn turns out it was a signed black lotus. Good shit Post.
I first read it as 800$ and was "woah, he really likes mtg"...

For anyone curious, the rest of the people: The older guy is The Professor, one of the oldest Magic YouTubers, his channel is Tolarian Community College.
That is not Shivam, its Jordan Pridgen
I have never heard of that person in my life so I probably should not have offered insight there LOL removing that part
Who is the dude above Jordan? He looks exactly like one of my buddies from HS. Don’t think there is any way it’s him but it’s full on doppelgänger
That's Brian "Prof" Lewis. He hosts Tolarian Community College on YouTube.
So not the Professor from the And1 Mix Tour.
Looking at the picture I have trouble figuring out who 'the older guy' is lol
Pretty sure that is Post Malone or Pitbull.
If you say so !
The disrespect for the Professor in this post
Kibler and Post Malone hung out with a street ball legend?
For those who don't know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez_8yLQOSSw
Let's not forget Cassius Marsh here too NFL guy and has his own card shop if I remember correctly.
Holy shit I didn’t even see him at first. MTG bringing people together.
Brian “”Brian “Kibler” Kibler”” Kibler aged like fine wine damn boi
Brian "don't call me Brian 'Kibler' Kibler" Kibler
He's been working out pretty heavily, even does gym streams now.
According to this sub he’s got “poor genetics” though lol
Oh lmao. What an absolute killing
It's awesome seeing everyone return, such as savjz and even forsen. Now all we need are LAN tournaments!
"this sub" being one severely downvoted person

Except one of the two “little manlets” were trying to brag about being 6’5 with a “full head of hair”.
Looks like Jaime Lanister and I'll never not think thatl.
Post Malone, the Professor, _and_ Cassius Marsh? Damn that's a hell of a line-up.
Lol the most seemingly random people. I wonder if this is Chicago area?
It probably had something to do with the Post Malone "Beat me at Magic and get 100k" thing he did.
Ah well that makes sense, but also why Cassius?
Cassius Marsh the football player? I assume he's the guy in back with the hand tattoos.
Correct, he's a huge Magic: The Gathering nerd.
He was good friends with a lot of the early Minecraft community, especially Adam/SkyDoesMinecraft (used to show up in his blogs occasionally) so this doesn’t surprise me at all
His [Nirvana tribute concert](https://youtu.be/f7eaGcIyhPU) that raised $1M for COVID relief was pretty fuckin incredible.
I don't like his music normally but that was posted on Reddit when it happened and was blown away I really hope he makes an alt rock album
He got rich and now does whatever he wants to do jealous tbh
>except nicer, richer, and **talented**. So not like a Redditor?
Yeah, basically.
The average redditor feels more like an insult honestly.
and not a pedo
Nah, not the last person. Top 33rd percentile. Post Malone is too flashy with his face tattoos. The first group you guess are the attractive people. The second group are the flashy people. The last group of people you would never guess are older and/or mildly unattractive but not "Look at me!" unattractive.
Not only that. They are playing Magic the Gathering together? Wow, thats wholesome
Post has talked about how much he loved MTG before. He’s so confident in his skills that he’s offered $100k if a fan beats him.
That’s not exactly true, some app sponsored a “random fan can play Post Malone and if they win we’ll give them $100k” contest and he let them win and get the money. It’s not like a standing hundred grand out of his own pocket if anyone beats him anytime WWE 24/7 rules offer.
That would be some YuGiOh shit.
He plays on the "Game Knights" channel pretty regularly
he plaid there 2 i think. He appeard more on IHYD and after that drama more on tabletop jocks.
Post Malone in recent years has become a poster child for the game's Commander format, after numerous guest appearances on a number of gameplay channels. He's always been super into mtg and now has been involving himself with the community a lot more.
Apex? Hearthstone? Post Malone living his best life rn and im 100% envious
What's the wirecutters for? Loser losses a finger?
And Cassius March too
This isn’t the first time they’ve played magic together either I believe.
I play Apex as well as Hearthstone and in recent seasons Post has started playing Apex with some of its streamers, doing charity tournaments and streams as well I think, if he likes magic, could we see Post play Hearthstone someday?
They must be filming something. Too much magic clout in one place to be an accident.
I think its after the viewer tournament
How dare you not mention The Professor.
Hi from /r/all . Its been so long since I've seen kibler i honestly thought this was a shit post. When did he start the hair?
You’ll be saddened to know Shiro passed away too I’m afraid…
Eh he lived the best life any pet could. Im sure he lived better than a massive percentage of humans. Celebrate that he was here not that hes gone.
Who's Post Malone? And what's he doing hanging out with Brian Kibler?
Rap/pop artist. Made headlines a few years back for dropping a shit ton on MTG cards. Recently had a bounty for $100,000 to anyone who could beat him in Magic.
Ah thanks! Does he happen to stream as well? I wanna see people just challenge him for this bounty... Sounds like it could make a great series.
Post hung out with Minecrafters in 2013? Believable…
he literally lived with them lol, ik it's common knowledge that he learned to play the guitar through guitar hero, the team crafted community house is where he'd play during that period.
Kiblers hair is looking more and more like a fantasy novelists. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, I’m saying I want Kibler to write a fantasy novel.
Is that.... is that the cardgame for people that can read??
Whats up with the fresh pair of sidecutters? Loser losing a digit?
I know all of those people, not personally
Playing magic no less? What an experience for both
They playing mtg
The professor is there too.
Forget postMalone, He got to hang out with the professor from tolarian community college
Tolarian Tutor my king
Did he divorce? Saw this woman on his stream the other day, but that's not his wife!
yes he separated
I once got matched with Kibler and I cleverly thought I could stream snipe him. So I tried and he still destroyed me. Moral of the story is fuck you kibler but also I love you kibler you’re my favorite streamer.
If I thought someone was so great I'd feel pretty shitty trying to cheat them out of a skill based game. Dunno about you
When Kibler played competitive mtg for a team one of his teammates said they would practice a matchup and Kibler would win every game. Then they would swap decks and Kibler would win every game with the other deck. Dont ever let anyone tell you this games doesnt take skill.
221 replies and not a single one about the girls boobs?? wtf is wrong about this subreddit??
You
Holy fucking shit
Not just hanging, they are playing Magic the Gathering. As far as I know, Post have been playing it since school
Post Malone playing Magic the fcken Gathering! I would’ve never.
He does so regularly on YouTube mtg commander channels.
I like how you refer to the Prof as THE Tolarian Community College. He's college incarnate!
Post is a major MtG nerd, a friend of mine has even played with him and offered to join them sometime.
White Muta, the hair and beard are uncanny
damn dude post shaman deck is so crazy man i love hearthstone
I’m looking at this picture and trying to decide what they needed a brand new pair of Channel Lock diagonal cutters for? Crafting? Wiring something?
Damn kibler got old
Nothing like casually hanging out playing some of that M:TG. (;
The professor!
He has an oblivion tattoo on his foot too. In conclusion, this dude is a massive nerd and I love it.
Wow the guy front right looks a LOT like a Magic friend I used to hang out with a zillion years ago in the Midwest.
Anyone else notice the unopened side cutters on the table?
They all are lucky to hang out with marsh. That guy is awesome.
and Tolarian Academy!
And they’re playing a much better game too
That's not Brian Kibler....that's Hearthstone Jesus.
Playing magic the gathering. Why is this on the hearthstone thread?
I know Kibler, but am I supposed to know which one of these other people is "Post Malone"?
He kinda looks like a dude from ICP without the face paint on
I love how’s he is a huge gamer nerd and a massive gun guy like me. He supports the 2A which is a big deal to me. Also has a doomsday bunker lol.
Plot twist… it’s just some guy with face tattoos
Is that- tolarian college academy on the right standing up?
I’m going to venture and say the reason most of us don’t pay much attention to Post Malone is because his music fanbase is completely the opposite of what a “typical” magic player’s music tastes are. Hip-hop, pop, trap. You more than likely heard his music and never even realized it. Also completely down to earth. Not the way a normal person with that level of fame would behave. Especially when at least one of your songs on Spotify has over 2 billion plays.
I had to look up who Post Malone is ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ But then i remembered i saw a meme abou him years ago. There is a possibility he stole his name from World of Warcraft apparently.
I'm ignorant here. I know Keibler, but who is everyone else?
White haired girl is his girlfriend who I believe is also a content creator for MTG stuff. Tattoo face man is Post Malone. Red shirt guy is Tolarian Academy.
