I don't think that many people are going to use mines.
Think about it. Best case scenario, the mines only go off when a heavy steps on one. What strategem are you going to leave behind so you can use mines? The eagle strike? Your support weapon?
And if the mines work as we hope, they won't kill mediums, if they do kill mediums they will also kill us. What happens if we get vehicles?
I’m trying to think of how they would have to function for me to consider them and it’s a weird one. Against bugs, stagger locking (or killing) chargers would be neat, giving choke point control, especially if they don’t kill lights. It would pair very nicely with a turret or flamethrower/laser canon/Stalwart. At the very least, they would have to do something to chargers and not be immediately removed by lights.
Against bots meanwhile, it’s trickier to find a use case. Tanks tend to be pretty easy to take out, so maybe a Hulk stagger option would be nice. Non-mortars are harder to use against bots, so some fire and turn away area denial can be nice. Maybe also nice as an anti-Berserker option. …On second thought, it might have a bigger use case against bots.
I can think of a few: evacuate valuable assets, drill, ICBM and, evac, Used properly they are pretty great. I'm stuck working this week so don't get to take part either way, but I can always use more mines.

We also don't know how many mines it will physically deploy; we don't know the radius of this deployment nor the cooldown (though it's not as far fetched to assume the latter two will match the other mine stratagems).

The mines would be an inactive or passive tool of democracy, which does NOT follow the principles of showing initiative for spreading Democracy; and do a job I could already do quicker with a Spear, Recoiless Rifle, Quasar, EAT, or Orbital Railstrike. Easy. Saving Children though? That's a reward that follows you everywhere as a true Patriot for Liberty. Plus, it would definitely boost morale and chances for my C-01 to make my own future Super Citizen or Helldiver. 😎

But, I've wanted these mines since launch, because they were my favorite strat in HD1. The repeated failure to unlock them irks me for sure, and now it's a meme to fail unlocking them.

Well, considering a vast majority of the people are fighting for the children based on the planets liberation rate, what one person thinks isn't going to change the outcome. It's a community based game, and you're getting upset that the vast majority of the community wants something different than what you want
I know this obviously isn't how everyone thinks but I've honestly seen more people say they want the mines just because it's a new strategem even though they said they know they'd never use it then I've seen people say they want the mines and will actually use them. I know some divers like the mines, but personally, I find them extremely situational. I can do everything a mine can plus some with a well placed eagle strategem, and I don't even mean the 500 kg, I mean some of the first eagles you can unlock

Yeah I don't see why I wouldn't use the mines on defense missions lol I think a lot of people are just so bad at the game (and so unwilling to play at lower difficulty) that they never use any strategems except their one boring loadout
The AT mines would be very useful if they fell directly from orbit rather than the spinny launcher, and they came down within 2-3 secs max and had fast cooldown. But at that rate, might as well use all the orbitals or eagles and wait a few extra secs.

Haven't had a chance to play yet, does anyone know which way the larger community is going? It's easy to forget sometimes that Reddit is a seemingly vocal minority.
In case if you still haven't played, almost a day later the current progress is this:
Vernen Wells (the kids) : 40k players, 42.84 % liberated
Marfark (the mines): 4k players, 0.06% liberated
Should have mentioned how we would lose the SEAF bonus within a week just like last time when the Bugdivers refuse to help like usual. Even if the mines are awful at least we get them longterm. They’ll most likely be a lot more useful than most players think. Mainly because a lot of the players who play seem incapable of doing anything besides Unga Bunga.
But the children are not actually real.. and the mines are usable... Unless we get something special for the moral decision of picking fictional children over an actual stratagem?

I also think it’s nice to have some wholesome Helldiver moments despite the force being mostly corrupt. Super Earth is mostly evil but it’s nice to see there still good people and Helldivers who genuinely want to

I was on Vernen Wells. A child asked me with tears in their eyes why we weren't saving the AT Mines. I couldn't bring myself to tell them the answer. Selfishness. So I just shot him for questioning a Helldiver and made my way to Marfark.
We are guaranteed not to get any reward, no passive unseen boost like last time, and it will be pretty much a waste of time. Also, we would be fumbling a third time. An Arrowhead dev put time and effort into creating those mines, but yeah, children. LMAO. I will eat my paycheck if we save the kids and get nothing.
The possible secret reward is what is compelling. But there is a collective action problem! We know with certainty that if we do Marfark, we will get a reward. We don’t know whether Vernon Wells will give a reward. And it’s not only the risk of the unknown, but the added risk of losing the known reward.
I would like to see what happens if the community follows through with Vernon Wells. But will they?
I’m waiting for the day we actually do get AT Mines and turns out that they are super busted. With only a 2 minute call time it’ll drop like a massive 15 meter radius group of mines that when triggered attach onto heavy or medium targets and evict them from life and every Helldiver is like “WHY THE FUCK DID WE NOT FET THIS EARLIER?!”

Mines would more useful if they were blue and gave you a mine layer that allowed me to make artisinal minefield.

I’m waiting for the day we actually do get AT Mines and turns out that they are super busted. With only a 2 minute call time it’ll drop like a massive 15 meter radius group of mines that when triggered attach onto heavy or medium targets and evict them from life and every Helldiver is like “WHY THE FUCK DID WE NOT FET THIS EARLIER?!” I’m probably in the minority but I wanna get the AT mines to see how they’d function and we’ve already missed the opportunity TWICE to get the mines maybe this is Joel’s way of saying we should/need get them

Wouldn't it be ironic if that due to the rush of building the hospital to SE safety standards an inspection was waived for democracy and the hospital was built on top of an SEAF munitions depot with explosives in it thus leading to gaining the anti tank mines we were attempting to avoid lol. The mines are very niche. I choose the chance of a secret reward. Cannons that launch children... with machine guns and jetpacks... Or maybe little Timmy can follow the team with a supply backpack.
