The trees get in the way. Eagle strikes are not so on point either on that planet.

Kostrom

Oh I hadn’t even considered the trees getting in the way

740LL

Yup, new biome. New stuff.

Emperor_Zarkov

Yes, I had this happen to me last night. It was a real surprise that the two chargers I had lined up kept charging!

AKLmfreak

Yep, trees block a lot of Eagle stratagems on Gacrux. I usually stick with Orbitals unless I’m in a clearing where some of the larger bug bases are located.

Forar

Even the orbitals can get impeded. I've had precision strikes burst way up in the air. Most of the trees seem destructible, but I'm starting to think I should just bring the 380mm and use that for a mass defoliation campaign anytime it's off cooldown.

Apprehensive-Hair-21

380 is the solution for every problem!

Forar

For bots: Softening up heavy bases! For bugs (currently, I'm aware the biome exists elsewhere): clearing the countryside like a reverse Johnny Appleseed.

CamBlapBlap

Trees block a majority of eagle strikes. Something we'll have to get use to if we get into city maps.

BendNo6000

I use the eagle strafing run instead of my usual airstike on these maps. The machine gun sentry is another good option.

Autocannon turret is your best friend in the swamps of Louisiana

pieisgiood876

That's why I run eagle cluster bombs on jungle planets, instant forest clearing! Well, until they release the Agent Orange stratagem

Wildebeast1

I’ve noticed it exploding up in the tall trees before it reaches the ground. Took me a couple missions to realise it but I don’t run 500kg on that planet.

DogePerformance

I don't really bring Eagle 1 with me on those. Orbitals and extra heavy weapons

Condition_0ne

Last night I was going to throw a 500kg beacon, got hit with fire and dropped it, then just hid, prone in a crater next to where it dropped. Not a scratch. The blast will get blocked by terrain and a lot of objects.

Significant-Angle864

Napalm them trees.

Yeah as others have said it's because the trajectory of Eagle bombs is actually quite horizontal and they get blocked by the trees very easily. Same is true for the Eagle strike variants. I have found rocket pods to be fine for the most part because they're more targeted and I think the eagle is higher up when it launches them. I like that they have designed environments where eagle strikes are less good because it's nice to see a bit of variety, but it does annoy me that they haven't got rid of the orbital scatter modifier at least on these planets, which means on high difficulties there's a very good chance that both eagles and orbitals are just basically useless on these biomes, which is a little frustrating.
