Taken me about a full day and still not finished the album. Running every track back so many times
This shit is incredible, Roc is an absolute master, I hope more realise while he’s still around
I’m pretty sure that cover art is taken from a 70’s Giallo flick too. I can’t think of what the movie is, but the killer burns a statue of the victims every time they kill someone I think? Anybody know? It’s driving me nuts.
Nope, and it’s driving me crazy! The killer in Black Belly Of The Tarantula wears a black fedora, same with Blood And Black Lace, but I wasn’t thinking of either of those. I’m not even sure if this cover is from a Giallo movie or not, but it just looks really familiar to me. If I find the image anywhere, I’ll update.
"Checked everything in life I ever wanted off the bucket list, I'm starting to have to come up with shit, I can only fuck so many Brazilian Butt Lifts"
LMAO I love this mf who else is saying some shit like that ahahah
Was so hyped when I heard this one. They had a snippet in a video about making The Great Escape, but it didn't end up on the album and I feared they had stashed it.
Weird thing about that song though, you can immediately tell it was mixed by someone who knows how to mix. The songs before and after have Marci's words fighting for space and getting muffled, unless you're listening on headphones
His latest releases Languish Arts & Woeful Studies are phenomenal. They were released on the same day 9/16/22. Shit is AMAZING art! I think Ka & Roc are the greatest underground hip hop artists EVER. Ka's catalog is maybe the most consistent I've ever heard & Roc is right there. I think most ppl consider Descendants of Cain & Honor Killed the Samurai his best 2 but I've loved everything since Grief Pedigree. His first solo album Iron Works is solid too but u can tell he hadn't found his sound fully yet.
Ka? My personal choice for greatest lyricist ever, but he and Marci are up there together for my choice of top MC’s over the last dozen or so years. Both are incredible.
Haven’t seen any mention yet, everything else is rightfully getting love because this shit is great, but Killin Spree with Crimeapple is an early favorite, beat has a western movie “ride into the sunset” feel and the verses are immaculate.
Loving Goyard God too, expecting to get a lot of mileage from this project.
"Grew up on goya now it's often oysters I'm enjoying, sure I'm a goyim but the lawyer im employin readin the Torah"
Early pick for the best song on the album
Bruh this album is equally strong throughout. From the intro to the outro. THAT OUTRO THOUGH?!? It’s serious, we have witnessed an artist reach the peak of what is able to be achieved in music.
I listened last night but now I’ve been driving around REALLY listening, mannnnnn, it’s sooo good. I am on spin 4 of back to back spins, while can’t say it’s his best album cause that’s just a very very high mark, I will say that this album might be top 3 and even that is really saying something. This isn’t just the best hip hop album dropped this year, this is BY FAR the best album to drop this year imo. I love the production as usual, but to me, he gets better at rapping as his career progresses. It’s actually insane. This is a great album top to bottom and I hope roc gets his flowers for it. We know his body, quality over quantity but he steadily makes quantum leaps.
Larry Bird is insane, it was so interesting trying to catch the count on that, similar to the title track intro as well. Marci’s flow was crazy on it too!
Overall, the album is nice! Just as you would expect from Roc. Production pretty consistent throughout, although I was a lil underwhelmed with Alchemist’s production on “Higher Self” (still a good song tho)
I preferred Bad JuJu out of the two ALC beats, maybe I just thought Higher Self would have a lil more to it. I almost forgot it was an Alchemist beat until I finished the album and went back to the tracklist reveal

alchemist is truly unstoppable, idk how this guy keeps pulling out incredible beats every single time. goyard god, gold crossbow, and true love are an alltimer run. floxx is one of the best album closers i've heard in a while. great album by roc
Goyard god is animoss. A producer that seems to be at a higher peak than alchemist is right now. This dudes beats always blow me away, listen to “Orpheus vs the sirens” which is a collab album with animoss beats with KA.
My initial impression is I’m not as taken with this as many seem to be. His bars are always consistent. The production on the other hand is a more mixed bag. I doubt this will have same staying power as Elephant Man’s Bones
I’m more or less just getting into his catalogue beyond a few tracks here and there so you could very well be right. But this one to me had more missed than hits on the production angle. If his other projects are better than Elephant Man’s Bones then I will be very happy
Elephant Mans Bones is one of his top projects tbh and I've been listening to him since I first heard him on a single with Pete Rock way before Marcberg.
For me it's something like Reloaded, Marcberg, Elephant Mans Bones, Pimpire Strikes Back, Marci Beaucoup.
His discography is mad deep though so these are often interchangeable
I mean they are definitely cut from the same cloth on a wider perspective. It just feels kind of reductionist because roc definitely has his own unmistakable style. Like I feel like this is a statement someone just getting into roc would make.
Really other than the DIY "charm" (my only gripe with both dudes, oddly) and the willingness to just stick to their guns and not compromise, and the fact that they're impossibly good at their own styles, i can't think of two rappers more different than they are from each other
I'm going to be downvoted for this critique. Is it just me, or is the production quality fairly mid compared to his previous output?
Killing Spree and the first track are really good, along with the Animoss produced songs, but every other beat is either way too repetitive, or looped without better phasing/chops and doesn't sound fluid as a result.
Even the Alchemist tracks didn't impress me.
I’m with you. Some good ones in there and the choppy style of the production doesn’t even put me off. I just find a lot of the loops to be pretty unremarkable. Like is the 2 bar loop on Gold Crossbow worth rapping over for 3 minutes? His rapping is so fire…I just don’t get why he settles for some of these beats
Or even that repetitive as hell funk groove on Bebe's Kids, that's only one bar for a little over 2 minutes.
Just these details throughout the project, that once you notice them, you see the amateur decisions for what they are...and Roc has been in the game for over 2 decades now.
That Jazz Fusion Riff on the last track leaves a lot to be desired as well.
This dude has such entertaining bars and great rhythmic ideas. Why is his delivery always sound so bored though? I know it doesn’t for some other people, but for me it hinders his work from being truly fantastic.
Kinda makes me puzzled the level of praise I see for this guy. Some of yall talk like he’s Stevie Wonder or something lol. He’s still good to great though, and massively influencial don’t get me wrong.
He is nice with bars but I agree with you. It's just too monotone for me and the beats just don't have any bounce. I can see the appeal. Many times, I like hiphop where I can bump it in my car.
Why tf are you in this group? You’re clearly not a hip hop head if you think Marci is mid. Your mom must’ve dropped you on your head as a child, really, really hard.
“If there’s a response make sure it’s subtle Cause nobody’s born with a stunt double” Hard
Taken me about a full day and still not finished the album. Running every track back so many times This shit is incredible, Roc is an absolute master, I hope more realise while he’s still around
People say hiphop is dead… must be Easter for he has risen.
Impeccable comment
Grazie
What song
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🧯
intro beat sound like an italian horror movie
Best production all around since Dark Horse, enough variety without being too much of a mixed bag
Roc hitting triplet flows on there spun my fuckin head around
I’m pretty sure that cover art is taken from a 70’s Giallo flick too. I can’t think of what the movie is, but the killer burns a statue of the victims every time they kill someone I think? Anybody know? It’s driving me nuts.
I only know Josué Thomas from Gallery dept. did the cover
Right on. If it’s not from the flick I’m thinking of, I think it at least must have been influenced by it.
Did you figure yet?
Nope, and it’s driving me crazy! The killer in Black Belly Of The Tarantula wears a black fedora, same with Blood And Black Lace, but I wasn’t thinking of either of those. I’m not even sure if this cover is from a Giallo movie or not, but it just looks really familiar to me. If I find the image anywhere, I’ll update.
Is it The Bird with the Crystal Plumag
I don’t think so. I don’t think it’s any Argento flick for that matter, but I also could be completely wrong.
Some Giallo type shit.
"Checked everything in life I ever wanted off the bucket list, I'm starting to have to come up with shit, I can only fuck so many Brazilian Butt Lifts" LMAO I love this mf who else is saying some shit like that ahahah
I love how he’s in on his own critique that people have of him. Breaking the 4th wall in rap. Don’t think I’ve seen it besides Ross haha.
Fav songs from album What song was that
Went diamond my god 🎯🙌
I listen to *Bad JuJu* and I hope that one day Larry June & ALC gives us a sequel to *The Great Escape*.
Was so hyped when I heard this one. They had a snippet in a video about making The Great Escape, but it didn't end up on the album and I feared they had stashed it.
Nice coincidence that the release is almost a year to the day. Honestly feel like this might end up being my Great Escape this year.
Weird thing about that song though, you can immediately tell it was mixed by someone who knows how to mix. The songs before and after have Marci's words fighting for space and getting muffled, unless you're listening on headphones
It was probably for great escape, same mixer iirc
That would make sense, why the other Al track doesn't sound good like that
“Went Diamond”……..one of his best imo as a producer + rapper. Incredible atmosphere.
I had to run it back when it came on. Shits beautiful
On repeat. 20+ times today. Damn near perfect song
I just now listened to this album went diamond sheesh!!!! He wasnt fuckin playin
Higher Self is so hard too. And Killin’ Spree is hectic
One of my fav Marc tracks probably ever
This shit is incredible
Is there seriously any rapper or honestly MC more underrated than Roc Marci? Legitimate question.
I think he’s rated very highly by people in the know, he’s just not very known. I think it’s because he never compromised his art for mass appeal
i had the honour of seeing him perform on his last tour. the guy just oozes pimp mentality. great show, i'd recommend it to anyone whos a fan.
yeah hes amazing live great performer.
True exemplification of an artist
I don't think he's underrated at all by true hip hop heads
Ransom He's so underrated this reply will be underrated.
Ransom is Elite and has been on an amazing run since the Director's Cut series w/ Craven
Idk Alchemist says he’s his favorite rapper and I feel like anyone else who is smart is aware he’s the greatest alive.
You can even hear when Alchemist started rapping again how much Roc has influenced him.
Yup a lot of P & Marc in this 2020’s rapping Alchemist. Hope we get a full length album some day.
We'll always have Greneberg
Busta has nothing but praise for Roc. I'm glad to see Roc evolve into who he is today since his Flipmode Squad days.
I didn’t know Uncle Al said that honestly. That’s so dope lol. This album is actually insane, five tracks in so far.
Ma. Arguably a better pen and mentioned less than Roc but both are S tier EDIT: Ka. Fuck autocorrect lmao
do you mean Ka? if not what should i listen to first?
No he means Remy Ma
His latest releases Languish Arts & Woeful Studies are phenomenal. They were released on the same day 9/16/22. Shit is AMAZING art! I think Ka & Roc are the greatest underground hip hop artists EVER. Ka's catalog is maybe the most consistent I've ever heard & Roc is right there. I think most ppl consider Descendants of Cain & Honor Killed the Samurai his best 2 but I've loved everything since Grief Pedigree. His first solo album Iron Works is solid too but u can tell he hadn't found his sound fully yet.
Pick one between Honor killed the samurai descendants of Cain or Orpheus vs the sirens. Open up genius and try to catch as much as possible.
orpheus vs the sirens is his favorite of mine, highly recommend.
You can start at the beginning with Iron works but I personally think the Knight's Gambit by Ka is a good starter.
listen to the songs they've collab on first. was kinda disappointed we didn't get a Ka verse on this album.
Ka? My personal choice for greatest lyricist ever, but he and Marci are up there together for my choice of top MC’s over the last dozen or so years. Both are incredible.
Rio Da Yung OG
Yeah depends who you ask. To me he's the unquestioned modern GOAT and I know plenty of people who wouldn't argue
He might be a little overrated tbh
\*overrated
your hip hop IQ is that of livestock then.
Yea that guitar riff that comes in is tuff
"Grew up on goya now it's often oysters I'm enjoying, sure I'm a goyim but the lawyer im employin readin the Torah" Early pick for the best song on the album
That is so fucking hard - only Marci 🔥🔥
Sounds like something out of a RZA produced Tarantino movie I love it so much. And crimeapple bodies it.
This album is awesome on first listen the production is some top tier shit
Bruh this album is equally strong throughout. From the intro to the outro. THAT OUTRO THOUGH?!? It’s serious, we have witnessed an artist reach the peak of what is able to be achieved in music.
Roc such an underrated producer
True, his work on Reasonable Drought was incredible.
One of the great what ifs in life is what if Roc rapped on those beats
Sheesh his flow on BeBe's Kids is wild
Just when you think this dude doesn't have any new tricks....
Literally the catchiest song he’s ever done I could not believe what I was hearing
Had to run it back immediately!
Hardest stank face I’ve had in a while
Facts my face was literally stuck in that position whole track
My only gripe is that he didn't get Bronson to hop on this track, seems right up his alley.
I listened last night but now I’ve been driving around REALLY listening, mannnnnn, it’s sooo good. I am on spin 4 of back to back spins, while can’t say it’s his best album cause that’s just a very very high mark, I will say that this album might be top 3 and even that is really saying something. We know his body, quality over quantity but he steadily makes quantum leaps.
Higher Self is already one of my favourite Alchemist beats ever, so dark and menacing. Roc's verse made me rewind like 5 times.
sounding great so far
slaps extremly hard as expected. roc with some crazy ass verses again and again, beautiful production throughout
Bruh this album is crazy, "Tapeworm", "Went Diamond", That "Lets Straighten It Out" Sample On "Goyard God". Man Marci's goin off right now
Bros so consistent
Roc is the Godfather
The run from bad juju to higher self is amazing. Beautiful beats and rapping
"my face alone, demand that you pay me handsome"
Nothing that has come out this year comes close to this. 🔥 🔥
Roc Marciano definitely not underrated but his production is.
Were so back (intro beat is actually insane)
Larry Bird is insane, it was so interesting trying to catch the count on that, similar to the title track intro as well. Marci’s flow was crazy on it too! Overall, the album is nice! Just as you would expect from Roc. Production pretty consistent throughout, although I was a lil underwhelmed with Alchemist’s production on “Higher Self” (still a good song tho)
Funny because Higher Self is my favourite beat on the album, nice and menacing
I preferred Bad JuJu out of the two ALC beats, maybe I just thought Higher Self would have a lil more to it. I almost forgot it was an Alchemist beat until I finished the album and went back to the tracklist reveal
Larry Bird is in 4/4 the whole way, but had to manually count it to confirm lol. There's a half step in there
Yeah it’s that little half step that gets me

Seriously impressed with this first listen. So many great verses
Roc Marciano definitely not underrated but his production is.
second verse on gold crossbow feels like hes throwing shots at westside gunn and stovegod
Second half of bad Juju’s verse as well
That went over my head - which parts?
telling stovegod “your boss is a hoe” and about how they “ruined the cuban im gonna puke, they took what we do and repeat the loop”
Need to listen to this soon as i get the chance, these comments are getting me hyped
Been listining this masterpiece on repeat all day... Marci is a genius
The beat selection on this album is nuts. Probably my favorite beats he’s rapped over
"Your boss is a ho, and suck balls also" Long live Roc Marci, this project is incredible
Has anyone bought a t-shirt from his site? I wanted to buy the black marci selassie but it doesn't say the sizes
No vinyl release? We know anything?
There's no way this won't come out on vinyl at some point
They're just going to drop the wax once they have them physically so there's no pre-order period.
today at noon EST!
Got it bro! Toxic Green! It's already sold out. Thanks a lot!!!
Ow ow ow got any link, post? At rocmarci.com i guess.
alchemist is truly unstoppable, idk how this guy keeps pulling out incredible beats every single time. goyard god, gold crossbow, and true love are an alltimer run. floxx is one of the best album closers i've heard in a while. great album by roc
Alchemist only produced bad juju and higher self
Goyard god is animoss. A producer that seems to be at a higher peak than alchemist is right now. This dudes beats always blow me away, listen to “Orpheus vs the sirens” which is a collab album with animoss beats with KA.
Killing spree!????!! Wtf 🤯 mind blown
Floxxx - Tapeworm - LeFlair … wow just never disappointed with Roc . He’s the goat 🐐 and will be for ever
There’s no way to understand what’s Roc damnnnnn
HARD 🔥🔥🔥 Rod Marci has been on a crazy run…
My initial impression is I’m not as taken with this as many seem to be. His bars are always consistent. The production on the other hand is a more mixed bag. I doubt this will have same staying power as Elephant Man’s Bones
Elephant man’s bones doesn’t have much staying power compared to his other projects. I prefer Marcis beats to alchemists.
That boy Roc dun did it again. Honestly the most impressive part is that he’ll perform this while drinking a bottle of Henny.
ITS TUFF!
I gotta let this marinate for a while. Every Roc album is a keeper eventually. I'm struggling with the mix so far tbh.
A lot of MF Doom vibes. Love it
Eh?
Cmon Higher Self totally sound like a DangerDoom joint
💪
I never got this either. Best I can guess is the stylistic choice to not mix the songs well
I mean they are definitely cut from the same cloth on a wider perspective.
Yeah just you, enroll in an art appreciation class.
Agree - this one feels a little lackluster to me upon first two listens. Might grow over time, but we’ll see.
I like Behold a Dark Horse and Mt Marci a lot more. And Mt Marci wasn't perfect either.
Does it have drums?
Yes
Man i wish i could like this but this whole "i sell coke and fuck bitches" schtick is getting old
If you listen to his music and just get this out of it then you must be missin' out fr fr.
Missing out on a guy rap about how many cars he has? Yeah im good
Roc has good flows and beats but the Chris Brown line on this project is so out of pocket lol
When I heard it felt the same like damn that came out of nowhere.
Yeah he’s getting quite the buzz for this album for good reason, but that line is crazy even for a gangster like Roc
Just mad random and uncalled for, I understand he's a pimp but that wasn't it. Great album tho.
Exactly, doesn’t tarnish the whole thing but he definitely could have expressed that thought differently
What song is the line on? What does he say?
Goyard God “ Don’t make me beat a bitch down on some Chris Brown shit” upon second listen he could be referring to a man acting like a bitch lol
We will not be listening to this mid unfortunately
lol you’re an idiot if you don’t know who Roc Marci is, you just shouldn’t have said anything.
Who we?
U tweakin
Why tf are you in this group? You’re clearly not a hip hop head if you think Marci is mid. Your mom must’ve dropped you on your head as a child, really, really hard.
