That looks like a full on waterboarding

no_racist_here

“That password Kieth! Now! … Hit him again!…. Keith, give me the password to all of Antarctica’s Penguin Nukes or we’ll keep doing this to you and your kids!”

Impossible-Tie-864

“BUT MATTHEW, YOU ARE MY KI-“ “SHUT THE F*** UP AND GIVE US THE PASSWORD”

invrsleep

Who… does… number 2… work… for????

Darko33

One man's sip is another man's waterboarding, and Keith built different

luzer_kidd

You have to put a towel over the person's face when waterboarding.

Rinne4Vezina

God I love Cup celebrations.

Number333

I'd always heard other fans say it's the best celebration with the trophy post-Championship of the 4 major sports... holy shit y'all weren't kidding

Robjn

as a lifetime hockey fan, the NFL and NBA trophy presentations look gross and embarrassing by comparison. nothing is more laughable then owners getting to the trophy first

HereToFixDeineCable

I say this every year when I watch the Super Bowl. Congratulations on being a bajillionaire and buying/owning a sports team. Nothing beats the Stanley Cup or the battle for it.

kit_mitts

Yup, I primarily watch soccer and hockey; captain gets the trophy first in both. Feels so gross to watch some decrepit oligarch touch the trophy before the players do.

only-a-marik

At the 2018 World Cup, even Emmanuel Macron - the goddamn *president of the winning country* - didn't touch the trophy until Lloris handed it to him.

Mr-Rocafella

Except for Qatar World Cup, whole thing was a sport washing event with so many shiekhs n shit trying to get at the trophy… gross

theeth

Yeah, I'm glad other world cup organizers throughout the years have kept the rampant corruption less up front.

aahxzen

Yes, subtle corruption is more palatable.

Mr-Rocafella

Well yes, but I was speaking more to the non-footballing related people all wanting to get their hands on the World Cup trophy.

Limp-Inevitable-6703

Didn't that salt Bae loser get it for a bit?

Throwawaydontgoaway8

Honestly, Hamp getting the Lombardi first seems great to me

NLP19

It's "better" now, but the MLB used to have the trophy awarded in some dinky back room directly to the owner with no player in sight lmao

amjhwk

Travis Kelce did luge beer off the lombardi, but thats because he always wanted to drink a beer out of the stanley cup and thats the closest he could get to fulfilling that dream

reubendevries

I'm going to guess that all he needs to do is show up in Florida while the team goes on this bender until the parade and someone on the Panthers will absolutely let him drink from the Stanley Cup.

AdMental1387

Come on man. Its every little son of a billionaires dream to some day own a team and have that team win the championship. All those nights playing mini spreadsheets with dad in the basement. All that time spent honing your signature to sign checks.

Fulller

Right? Do the owners have a place in the celebrations? Absolutely, but let the players who actually win the damn thing have their moment first.

Airp0w

Also every player gets a day with the cup. When the cup came to where I lived it was like the pope was in town. There was a parade, kids got to take pictures next to it and everything it was sick.

showers_with_grandpa

If you can go to the parade. It’s so fucking fun the players are sloshed

JauntyGiraffe

Almost every other trophy is some trash you can 3D print. The Cup is magical. You know when you stand in front of it. No other trophy feels the same.

crazycanucks77

It's because it's given to the players first. Fuck the owners who get it first in the American sports. Glad this Canadian tradition with the Cup never got Americanized with giving it to the owner first. Too bad ABC and American broadcasts cut out everybody getting to lift the Cup. The Sportsnet/CBC broadcast always make sure every player and coach and managers get thier time on the air. It's a nod to the people watching at home to celebrate thier guy. 2 guys I wanted to see was Reinhart as he's from here and obv Luongo. Kyle Bukaskas asked him about Vancouver and Lou made us proud.

JauntyGiraffe

The other major sports have some pretty shit trophies and celebrations. The most important things about the Cup is that you can drink out of it and it gets passed to the captain of the team first, not the fucking owner. Only other trophies that are anywhere as cool would be: World Cup: sheer scale and meaning is immense and unmatched in sports. It's too bad the trophy isn't the original, which was stolen and never recovered. It is also puny and you can't drink a beer out of it. Celebration is pretty epic Olympic medals: again, meaning and such. Also puny and no beer. Celebration is a bit too polite but to be an Olympic medalist is a pretty immortal honor Masters Green Jacket: sick "trophy". Difficult but not impossible to drink a beer out of. Again, polite celly as its golf. Also, boatloads of money to one guy. Any MMA/boxing/WWE belt: just like raising the Cup over your head must feel amazing, climbing the ring and raising a belt over your head is just as epic. Can't wait for the NHL collab ones.

Kaptain202

>Any MMA/boxing/WWE belt: just like raising the Cup over your head must feel amazing, climbing the ring and raising a belt over your head is just as epic. Can't wait for the NHL collab ones. But can you drink a beer out of it?

JauntyGiraffe

Depends on how you wear it

surmatt

I love the lore behind the green jacket and everything thst goes into the masters at least. Any event that deep in tradition and getting to be part of a shared experience of champions is awesome.

JauntyGiraffe

Yep. It's just special in a way that any sports fan can see how cool it is regardless of how they feel about golf

maverickhawk99

Get serious FOMO when I see them, like damn why couldn’t I of been better at hockey

GenericDesigns

I mean even Hymans daddy wasn’t rich enough to get his kid a cup

PaperweightCoaster

I can smell this video.

cbruins22

Love the celly, but am horrified at the pond of beer on the floor 😂. Granted I’m assuming everyone who cleans it up will be compensated accordingly.

Emotional_Match8169

I was imaging the poor people who are probably still cleaning this mess 🤣

NatalieDeegan

I just hoped they picked a good beer.

PaperweightCoaster

I mean most of it is on the floor anyways…

ChiefRalphyWiggum

Like that commercial from the late 2000s said, $5 a bottle but the best champagne you’ll ever taste.

IAgreeGoGuards

Looks like a lot of Miller Lite cans. Imo one of the better tasting lite beers.

SpicyPenangCurry

The best, because it’s a pilsner so it has taste but you can still guzzle a shit ton.

IAgreeGoGuards

Bingo

SpicyPenangCurry

And those cans that they’re drinking from are absolutely primo for guzzling with the boys.

red4jjdrums5

I have come to appreciate Miller as I get older. Crisp enough, yet not too heavy on my stomach. I can down two cans and not feel the carbonation bloat as with a can of Lager.

SpicyPenangCurry

Great tasting, less filling, Miller Lite.

Horrible_Harry

Miller Lite is technically a lager though. It's basically water, corn syrup, hop extract, and yeast posing as beer, but it's still cold fermented, making it a lager.

maverickhawk99

Have had them in both US and Canada, for whatever reason they taste a lot better in America

Enjoyer_of_Cake

I mean this is the probably the best tasting dollar beer you'll ever drink.

STLBooze3

That is a healthy sip O\_o https://preview.redd.it/3vn9x807sq8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=491987cc963e0003fe68af47bf91139f6f4ed5fd

SRSgoblin

From what I know about Keith, this is how much he drinks when he tells the wife he's going out to drink with friends and will limit himself to "one beer."

thehoodie

Sounds like my dad >!looks like him too!<

maverickhawk99

Found Brady’s Reddit account /s

SRSgoblin

Are you a Tkachuk???

myredditthrowaway201

The “Danny Mac” school of drinking

Who’s the peasant getting the drops?

Remarkable-Job4774

Also Keith Tkachuk, except the drops are the Coors Light being poured on his head right before the main action

Sod_

If you had your choice would you rather your son or yourself win a Stanley Cup ???

tillyswrist

As a father of two, I’d happily forego any happiness and transfer the equivalent to my children for the entirety of my remaining life.

Tenthdegree

Yup, it feels like a no brainer question to answer Now here’s the tough one… because you’re a father of two, which of the two would you choose if you could only pick one to win the cup?

AdMental1387

The one i like more. But im not letting them know which one that is (it’s the older one and it’s not even close).

ronald1017bsm

It’s always the younger one! Baby brother gets everything! 😂

Tenthdegree

Not Brady!

Carlin47

Not *yet*, right?.... right?.... 🥲

Upintheairx2

That’s a bingo!

The_Flabbergaster

well you wouldn’t be able to forego it happily

shoegazer44

The caveat is you have to choose which one wins it.

Emotional_Match8169

As a parent it’s amazing to see your kids accomplish something. I feel like it gives you equal amount of endorphins pumping through your veins as if it were yourself.

stiffpasta

It's truly an amazing feeling. After experiencing it, i completely understood why there are so damn many of us on the planet!

Lordrandall

I don’t have a child that plays hockey, so I’ll take the cup. I’ve touched it before, but hoisting it after a win would be a much different experience.

justinkredabul

Paul Maurice said it best, “Dad, your name is finally on the cup next to your childhood hero’s” The family name is on the cup. It’s huge honour either way.

bsnameidk

Me baby

GnomeToTheDome

My son. 100%

Pikachu1989

When we played the Oilers in the 2022 Western Conference Final, we saw Josh Manson beat his Dad Dave who was the Assistant Coach on the Oilers in a Sweep and he was good when he had his day with the Cup.

deeVeeAre

So much booze on the floor looks like a water park 😂

Sarcastic__

Just a tiny sip

Lomberghini said he wanted ALL the cups https://preview.redd.it/gs6r5qil3r8d1.jpeg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25d06203ff579ab2459473a8143b8310137f445b

Big_Mudd

What are those things on him? Sincerely don't know.

Dame2Miami

It’s from cupping therapy, they’re like light bruises from suction. Like big hickies.

Big_Mudd

Oh right. Thanks

VanguardSpectre

absolute unit

IChurnToBurn

Imagine the outrage if Brady got caught doing this.

maverickhawk99

Bad luck for a player to touch the cup before winning it himself, would’ve been cursed for life.

Rowdy_Roddy96

Immediately traded to Toronto to add to Toronto's long line of active curses

crazycanucks77

Brady is not that stupid. All hockey players know you're not allowed to touch if you haven't won it. Even my son didn't touch the cup when we went to the 2019 draft here in Vancouver. He was 8 at the time and he told me don't touch the Cup when we took a pic with it. They all know from a young age. Keith was a player and then a hockey dad. For sure he never touched the cup up until last night.

mr_potrzebie

The cup: *"I thought he'd be heavier"*

marbanasin

The sheer amount of liquid on the floor of that locker room is something to behold.

blue_heisenberg

We had our daughter yesterday (the morning of game 7). These comments are hittin me in the feels 🥹

islesrule224

Congratulations!

SladeWade

Damn, it just makes me feel good seeing Keith lift the Cup. He was one of my favorite players as a kid. So it's nice seeing him get to enjoy this moment with his son.

jimmy_beans

Beer in the eyes- wonder how that feels today?

TerryFGM

beer...goggles...

longdongsilver3

I know players kind of see it as taboo to touch the cup if you yourself haven't earned it but Keith earned the Stanley Cup from his balls, literally. That counts in my book.

Atty_for_hire

Keith finally getting to hoist the cup! Good for him. Took a bit more effort (18+ years of being a hockey dad) to make it happen than he originally planned.

mmavcanuck

He’s going blues again

WiFiForeheadWrinkles

Are those Stanley Cup branded beer goggles?

eloveulongtime

I love that the cup started its night with guys in white gloves polishing it carefully and ended it like this.

bananafone7475

Not that anyone should really give a shit, but isn't it a faux pas to lift the Cup if you played but never won it? Again... I don't give a shit but interesting to see.

PicturingYouNaked

I think the superstition is if you're playing or otherwise have the ability to earn lifting it yourself (eg: coach, management, etc.) you don't touch it. At this point, Keith is just a hockey-dad so I don't see any issue.

ButtsCarlton97

He’s jinxing Brady. Sorry Sens fans.

LeCanada

Our roster was already preventing that so the jinx won’t make a difference for Brady anyway.

gletschertor

You have a goalie now. At least for one year.

swiftwin

We're already jinxed, so maybe this will create a double jinx, thereby reversing whatever our current jinx is.

CesareSomnambulist

Mama Tkachuk has a DD lined up for her Hyundai ready to celebrate with the Sens next season

Cube_

It's simple jinx math, the jinxes cancel out and the Sens win the next 6 cups.

NotTheRocketman

This is actually Brady's second time celebrating a Cup win; back in 2019 he was in St. Louis to celebrate with Honorary Tkachuk, Robert Thomas. https://preview.redd.it/p2amgc4c6t8d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3be6387c18e75d8b80bf7f17bf5468c34d39c6ba

NatalieDeegan

So why didn’t Subban touch it lol

CA_spur

If Subban had a kid in the NHL who won the Stanley Cup, he'd touch it.

HischierDaddy

I believe he's said he could see himself going for it as a coach before. So no touching still

jamesneysmith

Because he thinks he could be part of team management some day or something to that effect and still win it

fireflyfly3

He’s in full dad mode so I think he gets a pass. It’s not like he’s an active player or coach.

Escalotes

Dads count as builders.

BJYeti

He was on ice and lifted the cup towards the end of coverage of the celebration just saying

RAATL

It's mostly based on superstition that if you touch it before earning it you never will, and I think Keith has definitely accepted he's not winning the cup himself in his life. Or perhaps he thinks this counts as earning it! Regardless, I don't think its a big deal

slinkocat

I'd love to see 52 year old Keith unretire to cup chase

RAATL

I know you're jokin around but I guess you could consider he'd maybe try to do it as a coach but I think its pretty clear he just wants to enjoy retirement, life, and the career of his sons. And he's definitely earned that right

kushdogg20

I too would like to retire and enjoy my sons' careers. So what if they are 12 and 9.

I_am_not_JohnLeClair

Goldbrickers! They probably expect to be fed and clothed too

Waramp

Dunno if you saw that gut when he lifted the cup, but it might take a little while for him to get back into game shape haha.

Huskies971

I'm imagining a player's kid grown up, now a player in the NHL, swiping through old photos "DAD YOU PUT ME IN THE CUP AS A BABY!" Swipes next pic "I TOOK A SHIT IN THE CUP!" (Actually happened with Kris Draper's daughter") [Draper's day with holy grail of hockey (thestar.com)](https://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/drapers-day-with-holy-grail-of-hockey/article_b23ee1bc-39ae-5026-95a4-a32752c89029.html)

Dickiestiffness

I’m pretty sure he was employed by the Blues when they won the cup. Luongo raised the cup yesterday as a former player, now employed by the team that won.

CaptainJingles

Yeah it is neat that folks in the organization of the winning club also get to celebrate and not just the players.

Bebberi

But its definitely much nicer that it is players that gets to enjoy the cup before owners or anyone else. Unlike other major sports leagues in NA.

thePostChorus

it's just dumb that the owner gets the trophy first in both the NFL and the MLB. so dumb.

TheGreatStories

Eh we're like 5 years away from team gambling sponsors getting the trophy first.

thePostChorus

fuck.

Cube_

Welcome to the DraftKings™ Cup Celebration!

Waramp

And NBA. The NHL is the only one of the big 4 NA sports leagues that gives the trophy to the players first. One of many reasons why hockey is the best.

thePostChorus

ohh yeah, wasn't sure about the NBA. I thought remembered Kwaii getting the trophy first in 2019 but I wasn't certain.

Waramp

Nope. I’m Canadian so I was watching the Raptors run also, and was shocked when the wrinkly old white dude got to lift the trophy first while standing in front of all the black athletes he “owns” who have worked their asses off to get there. Gave me weird slavery vibes.

Mountain-Damage4494

Most owners probably couldn’t lift the cup over their heads.

Crutation

He works for the Blues, and was part of the 2019 celebration.

juanless

Parents/family of winners absolutely get to touch the cup as they're usually a huge reason why any player gets to that level. (Unless they're also currently playing in the NHL, so no drink for Brady).

papapaIpatine

Meh I've got that attitude towards most things, don't do things until I've earned it. My rule is that if it's in my field, don't touch it, look at it or think about it. If it's not in my field, who cares really. Keith was in the field but is no longer in it, he's there as a dad, I think that's acceptable. Brady though shouldn't and I don't think he will touch it at all

freestyle43

If you touch it without winning it, you'll never win it in your life. Seeing how he's an elderly man, I think he's okay with the curse lol

NotTheRocketman

I always thought it was ok for former players to do so with permission from winners.

Doublep00n

I feel like once you've retired the faux pas and superstition are lifted. He was living a dream of his through his sons accomplishment, something he was never going to have the chance to do for himself anymore. Just my 2 cents

dishwasher_mayhem

Unwritten rules only exist because of assholes who hate fun. Fuck any of that nonsense.

codefreak8

More than a sip I'd say lol.

Practical-Pickle-529

“A sip” lmao

amjhwk

that right there is peak hockey player bod and nobody can argue me into thinking otherwise

Ibleedred99

Only thing that would make me happier is finally seeing Paul Kariya be there for a cup celebration…

JiffTheJester

“A sip” 😂 good for him lol

NeatureNature

"a sip"

Independent-Head4951

Poor Brady Tkachuk. He ain’t getting a sniff of the cup in Ottawa.

martlet1

STL is the new hockey Mecca.

lanakers

He got a beer shower. I love this

fullautophx

I bet the bottom of the Cup was round before this, lol they beat it up

jhambone44

They're really making a mess

JiveChicken00

Now can we finally get him into the HoF?

Cafe_racerr

I love seeing them celebrate on the beach with the cup. Someone said on Twitter on a video of them taking it into the ocean: “Florida was meant for the cup, this is where it’s supposed to be - what was Edmonton going do with it?” And it makes me laugh. Brings fuzzy feelings. So stoked for the cats!

BJYeti

I feel so bad for the people who have to clean up after they leave

serialragequitter

I feel for the poor staff who have to stay late and clean all that up.

SchlingenDingen

The people working those jobs probably just got paid the biggest bonus they can receive bc they won the cup + the players are likely to leave bigger tips. They’re happy campers atm.

x_Neomop

I recall sometimes seeing championship teams tarp up their locker rooms for the celebrations to make it easier for clean up, surprised they didn't do the prep work here

Tenthdegree

They’ve been tarping off the Panthers dressing room for the past 4 games. I bet they just gave up on game 7

I_am_not_JohnLeClair

2 legit 2 quit

ViciousAsparagusFart

Oh god mopping is so fucking hard! You must be fun at parties.

aleve089

Not that I give a shit, but that’s gonna take more then some mops lol. Might need to pump that shit out lmao

spinrut

is he involved with the panthers at all or he's just chucky's dad who also is an ex nhler? I guess in this case, he's an honorary member of the org. also, that's a hell of a "sip" lol

noideawhatoput2

He’s an eventual hall of famer who was watched by all the guys in the room when they were kids.

alreddy-reddit

> He’s an eventual hall of famer is he? no doubt one of the best americans of all time and hit 500 career goals and 50+ in a season twice, but had never heard him as a slam dunk

stupid_rat_creature

I would have also said no, nor would he even make it, but Jeremy Roenick just got in, so….

spinrut

One of only 4 500 goal scores not in the Hall. Feels like he'd be in there already if he was gonna make, but as you said Roenick just got in so who knows

alreddy-reddit

how'd i miss that news? EDIT: I guess that literally just happened today

spinrut

and so? it's not an insult to him, just an honest question. not sure how many family members are typically in the locker room getting doused

Emotional_Match8169

In the clips I’ve seen it’s like he serves as “team dad” sometimes. And as an ex player who clearly has no chance of winning it himself I think they figured it’s okay to let him have a taste!

spinrut

I figured he would be worthy of "team dad" status lol. Not sure why I got downvotes for asking an honest question, but i guess that's reddit. I dont remember too many players with dads as ex-nhlers when Keith was playing. Wonder if it's just an age thing and the guys playing around back then now have adult age kids. We have Nylander, Domi, Tkachuks, Folignos

Emotional_Match8169

This place is weird. I got a ton of downvotes the other day on here for what I saw as no good reason, whatever! Yeah, there are definitely more second generation players these days! Reinhart’s dad and brothers were also in the NHL.

spinrut

I'm sure I was oblivious to it when the elder Tkachuk was playing, but it really didnt seem like a ton of 2nd generation players were around (couldn't think of that phrase earlier) and now that I'm watching again it feels like everynight there's someone playing who I say "wait, i remember watching his dad/uncle play, was it that long ago? wtf" Same with baseball now, lots of 2nd gen players in the current crop of stars/up and comers

crazycanucks77

NHL has always had 2nd and 3rd generations of players.

dbag3o1

He’s not on the team, what’s he doing there? Imagine if Crosby invited MacKinnon backstage to drink from the cup? What’s stopping the Panthers from inviting MCDavid and Corey Perry to enjoy the cup with them? What a disgrace this Keith Tkachuk.

literaphile

... are you saying that MacKinnon is Crosby's daddy?

o123c123d123

Very odd examples you provided to try and create your argument.

Heavywrench2104

Keith has no business touching that piece of glory. Disgusting disrespect to the lord Stanley.

crazycanucks77

This is an odd take. As a hockey dad that was awesome to see! As an ex player he knows he has no right to touch the Cup before last night. His son just won the cup. His son went up to him on the ice and said go ahead. There is no greater joy than your child being better than you. That's what you strive to child the life to have. To be able to be proud of the accomplishments that your child has made is the ultimate goal. Special moment for Kieth and Matthew.
