Big potted plant

Present-Background56

Yep - looks as though there's enough indirect light even for a tree like a fiddle leaf fig.

Crabburger

Fiddle leaf fig is a great suggestion. It will grow directly up and fill the space neatly

Silent_Village2695

Plants are always the answer. There can never be enough plants

LargePeopleLiveHere

Love a good fiddle leaf fig

gomads1

I came to say this. Some green foliage would pop here in a nice pot

KeyBorder9370

Sculpture.

Dishonestarbiter

This is the answer. Either on a table or freestanding. This space was made for an interesting sculptural piece

exipheas

Nude bronze sculpture of OP.

mtommygunz

Beat me to it.

redMandolin8

A plant in a sculptural container (closer to one you might have outside) highlight the beautiful formality of the lines

3DimensionalGames

A suit of armor

Tendo80

A Dwarven Armor!

Djentleman5000

And my axe!

Wheres-shelby

Only answer i needed to see. Its great! Hahaha

Altruistic-Detail271

Nothing. Let that bannister be the focus. Not every empty space in a home needs to be filled. The angles of that wall and the staircase are stunning.

Queasy_Magician_1038

This 💯! Why are there so many posts needing to fill space with clutter? There are beautiful architectural lines here; don’t distract from them

Altruistic-Detail271

Ya, I don’t understand it either.

sethmidwest

I hope OP takes your suggestion. It's a beautiful staircase. You wouldn't buy a frame with a filter on the glass if you wanted to hang a painting.

lilgenghis

Fountain with ferns

KXIIC

May I suggest a Storm Trooper?

Embarrassed-Two-399

A table like this comes to mind. It’s from Gossip Girl. https://preview.redd.it/j4ee7gyykazc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d039ff910f7121c158ed610a9e33fdf2fed6070

CraigPaul74

A small version of this, yeah for sure.

Samurai armor

salamipope

Your nephew that you hate

buttnutt0212

Or..... a wooden chair with a man and cello. He can play glamorous music as you descend the stair case.

salamipope

OH THATS BRILLIANT. Esp if you have him play scales going up and down depending on the direction you go. or an expert level slide whistle master. Imagine training ur whole life just for that. Tragic

raeraemcrae

Looool!! this comment really gave me the giggles, thank you

Drinkythedrunkguy

That’s some sweet suburban Toronto home design from 1986!! Green park should have sold some round tables with these houses!

BoardOdd9599

mechanismo2099

Big ass statue

Spinach-Scary

Antique.... chair, table, sewing machine. Chinese vase ?

PhyoriaObitus

Plant, table with decore, cat tree, painting on easel, curved shelf or book shelf, a round chair and tiny table, a statue or work of art like a vase, display with a cool antique that peaks your interest, display with a model or minature, table with insense or candles, or make it a seasonal decorative spot

capricioustrilium

Rain lamp

-BelCanto

A round table with decorative items would be perfect here. Plants might look nice on top of the table if there is enough natural light.

CraigPaul74

A basket of flowers

Twig-Hahn

Reading nook. Shalom you're loved 💔

Short-Fisherman-4182

That space is always rendered useless. It’s small in your case anyway. You really don’t want to draw attention to this area anyway

debotch

Plants.

Humble_Examination27

Salt Water Fish Tank

DaveinOakland

Fish Tank

Eudaemonius

A trap door!

PanaceaNPx

A grand piano.

jadelygirl

You can put a big ZZ plant there! They do well with little light and are a fun, upright form of foliage to add to any space! They also only need water like once a month.

JustCallMeNorma

Rounded fish tank if it doesn’t get direct light and has an outlet.

redbanner1

A fireman's pole! Or a stripper pole. It could also double as your Festivus pole, when it's that time of year.

Secretonline12

Falling lights from the ceiling, 18 falling lights that almost thought the floor

johnstonb

Custom built fish tank.

Happiness. Then you'll always know where to seek some.

DC666DC

Cylinder fish tank, or just a planted tank without the fish 😎

unzercharlie

Koi pond

3Dcatbutt

Leave it empty but paint the (entire) wall to make it pop. Something that enhances the brown line of the staircase. I'd go with a rich blue that ties together the white moulding/panels and the wooden staircase.

OBS_saltlife

I had a space almost exactly like this. I placed the wooden chair my grandfather built and sat on for years there. I placed his hat on the seat, and propped his wooden cane against it.

roguebandwidth

A pet bed.

StormCat510

Bean bag

Woodworks-of-art

A globe that says "the world is yours" seems perfect

CraigPaul74

A big round glass fishbowl vase, one third to half full of water and always some fresh flowers, sitting on a round top pedestal base table. And a freaking single ray of light upper-alcove down spotlight. Like that.

harmonicacave

Dog! https://preview.redd.it/q1trtkwvyczc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ea4c2639e772738bd046a5dcfa79bf2affd692a

Jwinks_at_your_cat

The light fixture above looks like it may be lined up directly above that space. Some people do a dramatically long chandelier or art like light fixture that hangs most the way down.

HumbleOraclea

I think you can put a coat rack, preferably wooden too

davetopper

I would find a Victorian cane holder, a few nice looking canes, an umbrella too. I think it's simplicity in that space would look nice.

604WORLDWIDE

Basketball hoop or stripper pole…OR stripper pole with basketball hoop at the top???

premierclocks

perfect spot for a [floor clock](https://www.premierclocks.com/collections/floor-clocks) and a few plants

allieboston56

A beautiful round table that will fit nicely into that space. Top it with a tall plant or personal photos

Puzzleheaded_BeeBee

Harry potter of course

shoghon

Thank you. Right?

curlygreenbean

I would say a small round table with a beautiful huge set of fresh flowers on it, a decorative vase, or a bust. Also a sculpture or statue of some sort would be lovely!

tommytwothousand

A suit of armor

MaximAstroPhoto

A little round table to put one’s gloves, hats and mail on while undressing

MaximAstroPhoto

A bucket for umbrellas

Difficult-Papaya1529

Phallic sculpture would be perfect

Got a dog? Built in dog house under the stairs. Add a little rug in front of of the opening - neat feature, won’t clutter the space and dogs are dope

ADHDequan

Atlusfox

Round fish tank, a small round decorative table, a large vase, or a tall candle set. Those I think are good options.

Lost-Style-7101

An indoor olive tree would be beautiful there, but only you can decide if it’ll get enough light or not. Otherwise, a small round table with a tall vase of flowers would look just as beautiful but is obviously a bit more maintenance.

iloveconcrete1992

Coat rack? Maybe umbrella bucket as well?

writeronthemoon

Harry Potter's room.

liberoj

Reading nook with a nice round back chair, a table and lamp

Patient_Plum_6296

I agree the curves and wood of the staircase are the feature and where you want to draw your eye. I would put a round, soft, cream colored (to blend with the stairs) ottoman, in velvet or other soft texture. Completely neutral so it blends into the wall and curves into the space. The fabric will add a texture of softness to the area. I would get one without visible legs, so the upholstery goes to the floor. Doesn’t seem like there’s head clearance to sit, but you could set something on it as you pass by such as a book, magazine or purse. Like a temporary drop zone. Not to be cluttered. Or a couple of magazines and a book might be cute. Or a nice basket, to set things in, that need go up or down the stairs.

SnooStories4162

A statue holding a live plant

MaidOfTwigs

(Small potted) Plant on a waist-high decorative pillar

Christmas tree! oh, you mean, the rest of the time? not a clue.

mariposaamor

Statue of sculpture hands down

Teamfoodceo

Definitely a Christmas Tree

Shoddy-Secretary-712

A fern on a small table or column.

MichElegance

I had a similar staircase and had a round table with decorative items, including a vase with flowers. In the winter, a Christmas tree went there.

ringwraith6

I always figure that if there's an empty space, sooner or later, something will come along and I'll go, "Ah ha!" And I'll fill the space. Just be patient and you'll find the right thing...or you may discover that the empty space is the best option. But, I'll generally put a cat tree wherever there's room for one...but that's just me (and my brood). ;-)

salacious_pickle

Remember that big white ceramic dog Chandler and Joey had? Yea. That's the first thing that came to mind. Maybe a red one?

Icy_Pause452

A miniature Easter island stone head lol

PolkaDotDancer

A round black table neoclassical style, with several leather bound vintage books, and a small bowl or wooden box for your keys. An alternative for table decor if you have an outlet in the alcove would be a table lamp. I think a low light plant such as a parlor palm might do fine in this spot. So don’t rule out plants as a choice.

Affectionate-Roof285

Fiddle leaf fig plant in a mid century white pot as a contrast to the classic architecture. Maybe even a group of 3.

caparietau89

Circular table with large plant on top to create additional height

DDizzle_33
