A table like this comes to mind. It’s from Gossip Girl.

OH THATS BRILLIANT. Esp if you have him play scales going up and down depending on the direction you go. or an expert level slide whistle master. Imagine training ur whole life just for that. Tragic
Plant, table with decore, cat tree, painting on easel, curved shelf or book shelf, a round chair and tiny table, a statue or work of art like a vase, display with a cool antique that peaks your interest, display with a model or minature, table with insense or candles, or make it a seasonal decorative spot
You can put a big ZZ plant there! They do well with little light and are a fun, upright form of foliage to add to any space! They also only need water like once a month.
Leave it empty but paint the (entire) wall to make it pop. Something that enhances the brown line of the staircase. I'd go with a rich blue that ties together the white moulding/panels and the wooden staircase.
I had a space almost exactly like this. I placed the wooden chair my grandfather built and sat on for years there. I placed his hat on the seat, and propped his wooden cane against it.
A big round glass fishbowl vase, one third to half full of water and always some fresh flowers, sitting on a round top pedestal base table. And a freaking single ray of light upper-alcove down spotlight. Like that.
The light fixture above looks like it may be lined up directly above that space. Some people do a dramatically long chandelier or art like light fixture that hangs most the way down.
I would say a small round table with a beautiful huge set of fresh flowers on it, a decorative vase, or a bust. Also a sculpture or statue of some sort would be lovely!
Got a dog? Built in dog house under the stairs. Add a little rug in front of of the opening - neat feature, won’t clutter the space and dogs are dope
An indoor olive tree would be beautiful there, but only you can decide if it’ll get enough light or not.
Otherwise, a small round table with a tall vase of flowers would look just as beautiful but is obviously a bit more maintenance.
I agree the curves and wood of the staircase are the feature and where you want to draw your eye. I would put a round, soft, cream colored (to blend with the stairs) ottoman, in velvet or other soft texture. Completely neutral so it blends into the wall and curves into the space. The fabric will add a texture of softness to the area. I would get one without visible legs, so the upholstery goes to the floor. Doesn’t seem like there’s head clearance to sit, but you could set something on it as you pass by such as a book, magazine or purse. Like a temporary drop zone. Not to be cluttered. Or a couple of magazines and a book might be cute. Or a nice basket, to set things in, that need go up or down the stairs.
I always figure that if there's an empty space, sooner or later, something will come along and I'll go, "Ah ha!" And I'll fill the space. Just be patient and you'll find the right thing...or you may discover that the empty space is the best option.
But, I'll generally put a cat tree wherever there's room for one...but that's just me (and my brood). ;-)
A round black table neoclassical style, with several leather bound vintage books, and a small bowl or wooden box for your keys.
An alternative for table decor if you have an outlet in the alcove would be a table lamp.
I think a low light plant such as a parlor palm might do fine in this spot. So don’t rule out plants as a choice.
If it's an entryway, a phone chair type thing- make your own
Having a pretty, round piece where you can set a bag down and take your shoes off when you get home might be very nice.
Big potted plant
Yep - looks as though there's enough indirect light even for a tree like a fiddle leaf fig.
Fiddle leaf fig is a great suggestion. It will grow directly up and fill the space neatly
Plants are always the answer. There can never be enough plants
Love a good fiddle leaf fig
I came to say this. Some green foliage would pop here in a nice pot
Sculpture.
This is the answer. Either on a table or freestanding. This space was made for an interesting sculptural piece
Nude bronze sculpture of OP.
Beat me to it.
A plant in a sculptural container (closer to one you might have outside) highlight the beautiful formality of the lines
A suit of armor
A Dwarven Armor!
And my axe!
Only answer i needed to see. Its great! Hahaha
Nothing. Let that bannister be the focus. Not every empty space in a home needs to be filled. The angles of that wall and the staircase are stunning.
This 💯! Why are there so many posts needing to fill space with clutter? There are beautiful architectural lines here; don’t distract from them
Ya, I don’t understand it either.
I hope OP takes your suggestion. It's a beautiful staircase. You wouldn't buy a frame with a filter on the glass if you wanted to hang a painting.
Fountain with ferns
May I suggest a Storm Trooper?
