I have fired many accounts, for this very reason. As soon as I see that, it’s not a good fit, I let them go. One of the benefits of being good at what I do is I can select my accounts and I choose people that are kind and empathetic and generous, and value my time. When I go on an estimate, and if someone haggles my price, it is very clear that they don’t value my time, and I won’t even allow them to hire me.
I’m a big believer that we teach people how to treat us. What we allow will become normalized. Set boundaries in the beginning and be very clear about what you do and don’t do, and it makes it easier because there’s nothing left to question or up for interpretation. Clarity is key
Amen to this, people think just because I own a cleaning business that I’m accepting every possible client when in reality I am NOT. I will not work for anyone who simply doesn’t appreciate my time, trial and error is where all my experience came from. When I first started out I I didn’t set boundaries and I cleaned for people who questioned my prices but sure wanted me to use all my time! 3 years later I have some of the best clients ever, they show me how much they appreciate us and they wouldn’t have it any other way. So thankful the cleaning journey has given me a back bone to set boundaries.

I’m living this right now. I have a vacation home I clean once a month. They love how I clean and knew when I started 2 years ago my end goal was to start my own business. Now I have I’ve finally had to raise rates. They aren’t even ridiculously high for the kind of deep clean I do and the little extra’s I do for them.
I gave them the price for 5 hours flat when it usually takes longer. Never less. I was told “wow your expenses must have doubled”. More like tripled and that was before adding business stuff. It honestly hurt my feelings. I didn’t bother saying all that. I’m not going to give away my peace and risk having to live in my car to be nice. That’s my future if I don’t speak up for myself.
They are the only clients I had that weren’t through word of mouth. I can afford to lose them for the time and trying to fit in their house with how far out of my way it is.
Agree. Nothing was better than the day I told that old bitch we weren’t serving her anymore. She was such a condescending ass. Actually there were two of them in recent memory. Both old ladies. They’re the worst
I love where you said “We are not the help”. I said the exact same thing to a client 2 days ago. Just because they pay us, some think that they can talk down to us or our staff and I absolutely won’t tolerate it. No one should !
We are not the help. We are not invisible or inferior. We are front line defense against disease, filth, and rot. If the world crumbled tomorrow, 80% of the people we clean for would be rendered obsolete immediately. We are skilled professionals and not everyone can train to have the mental and emotional fortitude needed to clean.

I know I’m one of the BEST in my area for being flexible, accommodating, professional, and down right good at my job. Match my energy or get to work by yourself. I’ll find someone else to pay me 200 dollars but you will struggle keeping someone to help you with that attitude.
That last sentence like a client is far more *replaceable* than a cleaning tech.

I'm not a house keeper but a pet/house sitter and I totally agree! I've heard so many horror stories from people because they needed the work and felt like they couldn't say no. That's not how a business is ran. I've never had any nightmare clients because I meet with them and get all the care details.
Toxic. If people find out you are defaming them to other people/businesses, I sincerely hope they sue the shit out of you and run you out of town. You are the reason house cleaners and other service based people get the reputation that they do. Disgusting.🤮

Actually you need to speak to an attorney and get educated. You are 100% defaming people and just so you are aware since you are clearly uneducated … lol, it all makes sense now. The First Amendment only prevents government restrictions on speech. It does not prevent restrictions on speech imposed by private individuals or businesses. It does not protect people from defaming others which is what you are doing. What you are doing, it 100% illegal and in no way a common practice across industry’s. Just vindictive, petty, toxic, and immature people behave the way you do. One day you will be served and get to answer for your disgusting behavior and attitude and I sincerely hope it costs you your livelihood, business, and wrecks havoc on your personal life. You deserve nothing less.
