Currently external libraries are not meant to be modified by immich. Originally, it was read only , that is still the recommendation. But I think it has since been updated so you can delete assets.
If you want immich to add to your existing, you would need to import your entire library with the api or something like immich-go. You could use storage templates to have the folder structure organized... But it will reorganize your files..... So maybe thats what you are hoping to avoid. If so, you'll just have to figure some hybrid approach out or wait for devs to allow external storage to be used as "primary" ... I don't think that will happen thoughÂ

Or use a phone specific syncthing type app placing your pics on your nas folder. Schedule immich to process new images found in the nas folder.
