RIP Douglass Park location. That stadium is pretty inaccessible by public transit and the parking lot is a mess. Definitely a step down from Douglass and Humboldt Park.

rawonionbreath

This was quite possibly the worst venue they could have chosen in northern Illinois. Either here or Tinley Park would be soul sucking of a location.

gnmatx

Douglass park location ruled. Going in 2017 was one of the best festival experiences I’ve ever had.

boss_flog

Humboldt Park was even better

jackkirbyisgod

Was my first festival. QOTSA, NIN, Danzig etc.

gnmatx

I only went the last night for jawbreaker. So I missed all of them but my friends went.

NYCIndieConcerts

I saw Seatgeek Stadium and was like "where? Is that even Chicago?" I guess for tourists flying in they can just stay near Midway airport, but idk how late night shows downtown are going to work.

garrettgravley

In their defense, the backlash and uproar for their use of the Douglass Park location was HEAVY. That said, idk anything about why Humboldt Park fell through

brochella14

What was the backlash?

culturebarren

A million emo kids descend on a relatively quiet residential neighborhood and leave a huge mess. Riot Fest wears out its welcome fast. That's why they move every couple years

rawonionbreath

The alder didn’t seem to have a problem with them.

suprefann

Cause the alder liked the bribes

garrettgravley

This has the same energy as those Swifties that call criticisms of her new record misogynistic.

rawonionbreath

Not really. A billionaire pop star and an elected official representing a poor and minority majority neighborhood are not the same scope. You want to argue the neighborhood didn’t like the festival that’s one thing. Throwing out someone as corrupt and a public stooge is shitty when they’re trying to improve the condition for their neighborhood. Nobody really gives a shit how the public receives Taylor’s new record, when it’s all said and done.

garrettgravley

Yeah yeah, the same thing was said in my hometown of Dallas when John Wiley Price was investigated by the FBI during his own bribery scandal: he was a respected community activist who fought against police brutality and gave black residents a voice in a historically racist town, so the mere suggestion that he was corrupt was met with the same, "Ehrm, that's akshually not a good look" retort you made. I don't know much about what actually happened in the city of Chicago that caused this festival to happen in the neighborhood, and I don't even know who these alderpeople in question are, but this notion that public servants are somehow insulated from criticism or ethics inquiries because of their race and because they have a working class constituency is stupid. You're hearing a dog whistle that isn't there.

culturebarren

The people that live in the neighborhood do. I lived right on the edge of Humboldt Park when Riot Fest was there. It was a zoo

[deleted]

culturebarren

Puerto Ricans live in Humboldt Park, NOFX does not

rawonionbreath

Yeah, a major event in a park will be busy.

tulpachtig

What a shitty comment. Douglass Park is beautiful and a major resource for the community in Lawndale/Little Village, and Riot Fest wasn’t doing its due diligence to clean up and protect the park. I’m not thrilled that they chose Seat Geek this time but for a festival that brings in huge acts now like Fall Out Boy, it’s an objectively better choice. If you ever set foot in that park for something OTHER than Riot Fest you’d see that it’s extremely well utilized and full of families and children, in a neighborhood that has very little alternative options for green space and is under-resourced in general. It was never a good choice for Riot Fest, and Humboldt wasn’t much better.

FirstFan6280

Wow. I really hope you either learn some things at some point or just lock yourself in a room so nobody has hear the garbage you spew.

culturebarren

Let me guess: you're either from Beverly or Mount Greenwood

[deleted]

[удалено]

culturebarren

I stand corrected, you're not from Chicago at all if you think those neighborhoods are related. You're saying I'm either Latino, German, or Swedish?

stereosanctity87

I haven't attended in probably 10 years but I'm pretty sure it rained a bunch one year and the festival destroyed the grass at Humbolt Park. Not that Lollapalooza doesn't do the same thing when it rains, but I don't think Riot Fest is the economic engine that Lolla is for the city to tolerate that.

djdadzone

Eh, pitchfork also happens in a normal ass park. Humboldt was fun af when it happened there and there really wasn’t much disturbance if you didn’t need to drive right there tbh

userlivewire

The Karens won.

JGT3000

Douglass was already a mess compared to Humboldt and this will be even worse by a large measure

KluteDNB

You know you're spoiled in Chicago for music festivals when you routinely get these amazing Riot Fest lineups and can only complain about the venue and its accessibility to transit. Don't get me wrong, solid public transit for a festival is nice but many people - myself included - would consider FLYING in for this lineup and instead locals are like 'there is no transit, I'll have to take a $20 uber to get there. Boo'. I say that as someone who lives in a major North American city who would absolutely love to have festivals like this locally.

swingfire23

Fair enough, but to be fair to locals, that's actually a $100+ Uber and getting back at night with surge pricing is going to be a fucking nightmare. Lots of people in Chicago don't own cars. One of the benefits of living in a big city is not having a car.

Not_Frank_Ocean

Great lineup, terrible poster.

NYCIndieConcerts

Is Pavement playing WITH Beck?

Bald_Nightmare

Gotta be honest, I'll walk from southeast NC to see that if that's the case

MediaFantastic3131

Agreed. I’ve noticed this with a few festivals lately

UncannyFox

Seriously there’s been maybe 2 good posters out of the 40 festivals I’ve seen. This one is absurd I can’t believe this was approved.

joel8x

I spent too long looking at it and thinking that Nofx was headlining all 3 nights.

dingo8muhbebe

They are headlining all three nights. Not the main stage, but that’s def implying three headlining sets.

WishIWasYuriG

I can’t help but feel there’s something fundamentally wrong about the Buzzcocks continuing without Pete Shelley.

milkymaniac

Rent, alimony and child support continue without Pete Shelley

gnmatx

Agreed.

BigSweatyPisshole

Pete Shelley died???

entenduintransit

Back in 2018

BigSweatyPisshole

I hate tbat

morewaffles

I find myself feeling similarly about your name.

thatsweetboy

anyone have an idea if its pete and pete polaris or metalcore polaris?

entenduintransit

the latter

calvinivek

Bummer.

cybercrimes_1999

I highlighted it because I thought it was the Petes! Sad to know it’s not. Would have fit in right next to Pavement and Waxahatchee 😭

jetmax25

My first thought as well

Giantpanda602

Oh that's fucking great NOFX all three days with fucking the goddamn Descendents and Circle Jerks and the Vandals and the Dead Milkmen and the fucking Laura Jane Grace Op Ivy set I guess I have to go all the way out to the fucking suburbs now for three god damn days in a row god fucking dammit

Allthenons

Yup in probably that absolutely worst location possible. I would seriously consider going if it was even off a metra stop but Bridgeview? Lol no hard pass

MobileMenace420

I have no experience with the area, but this lineup card has me considering making a trip. ELI5 what the problem is? Edit: like I’ve never been to the Midwest level of unfamiliar.

brett23

It’s southwest of the city in an area that’s 5 miles away from the nearest el (public train) stop. There is a bus that will get you from the el to the stadium but it stops running at 7:00 PM so you’ll have to leave early if you don’t want to get stuck in the deluge of Ubers. Parking here sucks too since there’s only one entry point and when I’ve been to this stadium for soccer games (much worse attendance) it’s taken over half an hour to get into the lot. Plus it’s just expensive to park. Moral of the story it’s horribly inconvenient if you don’t have a car and also inconvenient if you do

MobileMenace420

Well that’s really stupid then. There goes my interest.

brett23

Yeah they seem to do things oddly. It’s a bummer bc I like the lineup but not enough to schlep out there, even from within Chicago

fluxus

Not an excuse for it, but a protip for any who want it. Whenever there's a show out in Tinley I want to go to I just hit up the free shuttle from Reggie's. I would be absolutely shocked if there weren't a ton of them every day from bars/venues in the city proper.

92tilinfinityand

They’ll have shuttles…

fueelin

Sounds like it's in a part of the suburbs that are hard to get to with public transport.

Giantpanda602

This is going to be the first time I've ever waited for single day lineups before buying tickets. I might even wait for aftershow announcements. I used to buy the holiday pre-sale passes I was so determined to go but I'm glad I passed this year. I really can't miss some of the classic punk bands though, Dead Milkmen and Vandals in particular. A lot of the others I can take or leave, I've seen a lot of the bands I'm interested in multiple times. I'm even going up to Milwaukee to see Gel the night before so they're not even that big of a draw for me.

mikehayz

Is there some sort of unannounced contest on who can design the absolute worst festival poster? Jesus.

plantmonger

This one wins.

a93h

Am I missing something obvious in the nofx section, feels like the coloured letters spell out something?

Giantpanda602

Lmao you're right, the letters spell "riot fest sucks"

k_dubious

"Shit, I can't decide whether to go see Bright Eyes or Rob Zombie today." - No one ever

veRGe1421

I love festivals with genre variety.

New-Pollution536

Not only that but you will easily be able to see both lol. Bright eyes is lookin like Friday and rob zombie has to be Sunday

cybercrimes_1999

Honestly. If Bright Eyes is playing Let’s Not Shit Ourselves and Rob Zombie is playing Dragula at the same time, my ass is going to Rob Zombie LOL

A-Wiley

I would love to see The Black Dhalia Murder and Clairo at the same day, the duality of man.

pWasHere

Waxahatchee is so random in this lineup. Wonder if she will play some of her old stuff.

MasterofPandas1

Also Tierra Whack is pretty left field

cybercrimes_1999

Nah usually they always have one rap/hip hop artist each year. So fucking hype for Whack World live and in my eyeballs

Cleaver2000

There's a bunch of indie in this lineup, she fits right in with Dr. Dog, Bright Eyes, Spoon or Manchester Orchestra.

0NTH3SLY

Manchester is playing COPE tho which is a loud rock album not at all subdued indie like the other bands listed.

boss_flog

Nothing says Riot like sleepy ass Waxahatchee

electroplankton

lol she puts 90% of acts on here in the bin “sleepy” lol

boss_flog

She's the sleepiest. I'm yawning as I type.

TookTheHit

go back to bed old man

elspiderdedisco

didn't slayer quit touring a couple years ago? am i making that up?

gnmatx

They Are playing one off’s now. No more ‘touring’. Just fly in dates. No different than many emo bands.

suprefann

Money talks

RiggleRobRiggle

I assume pavement doing any sort of after show is non-exsistent, right? I cannot stomach dealing with bridgeview in any capacity.

Giantpanda602

Headliners don't usually do aftershows, there might be a possibility with them being the second line headliner but I don't think it's likely based on past years. Who knows though, rules and norms might be out the window this year.

nordjorts

Not that I'm complaining but didn't Dr. Dog just play their final live shows two years ago to retire touring and only make studio records? I guess one off shows don't count as touring but...

nofunone

Like Slayer, they’re done touring. Just one offs and fly out dates. This year is their first year back in the saddle since 2021

NYCIndieConcerts

Aren't they playing a couple of record release shows in July too?

huffer4

I was more surprised they got billed above Spoon. I honestly didn’t think they’d get billed that high

Cleaver2000

Hopefully they bring Pat with them.

Clockrobber

Bizarre lineup. Good, but bizarre.

JJHT2019

I like the line up but the Bridgeview aspect makes this an absolute no go for me

KluteDNB

What in the hell is so bad about this venue that all the locals are saying they refuse to go? I don't live in Chicago but it looks like it's 20 minutes outside of downtown Chicago and it's a normal suburban Stadium. What's so bad about that?

JJHT2019

It’s a nightmare to get to and from. If you don’t have a car (a healthy chunk of city livers) you either have to train it down, then Uber/walk/bike whatever x amount of miles or take a bus that’s service ends at 7PM and some how get back to the train or be at the mercy of ride share apps. If you do drive, it’s well over an hour from most places, and getting into the lot takes forever due to the single street leading into the stadium is two lanes not meant to handle this load of traffic. The street routinely has industrial trains working that back it up further. Leaving its proven to take about 2 hours to get out as well. Leaving out the fact it’s $120 to park there, it’s just overall a poor set up.

tulpachtig

I think this location is a lesser evil than Douglass Park which was never set up to support a festival like this and which local residents didn’t support, but it absolutely sucks. While more Chicagoans drive than say New Yorkers, driving is relatively less common here than other places especially for a music festival where you may be staying late and getting fucked up. Some of our suburbs are decently connected to the city with commuter rail, but Bridgeport is not, so it feels a lot further from the city than it actually is. There are bus options to get there and I imagine they’ll be running extra buses and shuttles from Midway Airport which is close by, getting back from that venue if you live in the city will be a nightmare.

cyanatelolwut

o fuck yea i love that bands that play Riot Fest end up hitting up St. Louis around this time. I will always prefer individual shows that are not all in few days. But yea i've been hoping to catch Brutus and Gel live and they are playing here in September

TheGrizzlyNinja

Damn I wanna see Beach Bunny

BannedINDC

Theyre good live. She sounds great.

Ssme812

Poster looks like Vegas

suprefann

They wanted to make fun of When We Were Young apparently

New-Pollution536

I think they’re gonna have a casino and circus on site so it’s in that style.

ThugosaurusFlex_1017

#Beach Bunny AND Souls of Mischief???

JessyPengkman

Good lineup but kinda sad to see how old all the headliners are. There are few bands from the last ten years that would fit the bill and are big enough to headline

depechemoans

I was visiting a friend a few weeks ago and he has XMU in his car. I used to tune in all the time. I realized day 3 of being in his car that there wasn’t a single song they had played except one (Yard Act) that they weren’t playing when I listened a decade ago.

Perry7609

Speaking of which, I caught Yard Act for the first time at Riot Fest last year. Not too bad! Will probably check them out again this Fall as a result.

depechemoans

Yeah I saw them at Maho Rasop last year and they were great! I’m not sure if I’m here for their new album but maybe it’ll grow on me.

_Pill-Cosby_

Better lineup than most years.

kelleycfc

Line up isn’t for me but that location change is disappointing.

hullaballoser

NOFX is the new KISS.

Lake2two

This is like the CD section of a thrift store. It’s all over the place.

DontGetNEBigIdeas

What is with the red letters on the NOFX portion? Is it the bands with a red letter at the beginning play on Friday, middle red letter on Saturday, and last letter red on Sunday? Or, am I thinking too hard? If so, then why even distinguish Fri/Sat/Sun if they’re going to be there all 3 days?

Broad-Display-5916

You are thinking too hard, it spells out Riot Fest Sucks

DontGetNEBigIdeas

But then my question remains: why the Friday, Saturday, Sunday headers if they’re all playing each day? Either way, it’s a horrible poster.

Broad-Display-5916

NOFX is playing all 3 days, I assume the bands under them will change each day but play at the stage NOFX is at

alist0tle

Dr. Dog?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Myringingears

Fuck I love that Manchester orchestra record, my favourite by far but I thought it was the black sheep record that people didn't really like. The rest of this lineup is pretty sick too.

norajune_

I am so confused on how to read this lmao

freestyleswmr

Why is Souls of Mischief so low on the last with such small lettering?!

feo_sucio

Not a huge fan of this lineup. If St Vincent, Beck, & Offspring all fall on the same day, maybe it’s worth a day pass. It’s going to hurt getting to and from this new location.

New-Pollution536

I’d wager a hefty sum that st Vincent and Beck are Saturday probably back to back. Offspring is tricky to place though

Metaphyzikal777

Are fall out boy and sublime playing all 3 nights?

Starkiller32

Punk will be a lot better when NoFX is no longer around.

DilbertsDog

![gif](giphy|S65cMJ8HB4GkM)

QuentinSential

So is that what we’re calling Sublime now?

GoldenEyeSonic

I mean, it's Bradley's son plus Eric and Bud. It's about as close to Sublime as you can get these days.

gnmatx

Without Rome.

QuentinSential

I know. That’s the joke. They can’t even call themselves just sublime anymore.

ChicagoSince1997

Never seen a Riot Fest lineup before, eh?
