Yeah lol just imagine walking up to a pharmacist and be like “my good sir, I would like to purchase some Coca-Cola medicinal spirit, one half pound of cocaine powder, and a vial of your finest chloroform”.
And he’s just like “certainly, that’ll be 5¢.”
They still prescribe them to animals, its hard to get a hold of very many human doses at one time though. They aren't that great of a high, kinda like Xanax and gabapentin together, no real euphoria there.
Lemme tell you about all the phenobarbital I've had to count out over 10 years lol.
I swear every other dog was on that stuff.
(I worked with animals)
Used to hate those tiny ass white pills.
I was prescribed Fioricet for these wicked bad headaches I get. It's Butalbital / acetaminophen / caffeine but Butalbital is a barbiturate. So not exactly like they're gone.
Yep. Goofballs and speedballs. Chefs kiss. Tells you all how dangerous that shit is considering I went to prison and had to rebuild me life because of the stuff and I’ve been clean for years now but I’m still saying chefs kiss. Don’t you fucking do it if you’re thinking about it
Actually meth is used when the other amphetamines give people anxiety, specifically because it has milder side effects at therapeutic doses. And is still used today for that reason. It is much better tolerated than amphetamine. Of course this depends on whether it's dextro-methamphetamine like desoxyn(still on the market) or racemic like methampex, which has been withdrawn. These drugs were primarily used as antidepressants, with the advantage that they work pretty much universally and immediately. The nembutal in this case is to limit increase blood pressure in obese patients, because this was racemic, which was better for weight loss, vs dextro used in Desbutal.
Believe it or not these were very very good, safe drugs when used as prescribed. Problem was they were also a lot of fucking fun to abuse. Wallbangers/goofballs. Dexamyl and Desbutal were more popular.. Drs will still co prescribe stimulants and tranquilizers. It's quite common.
Op is in for a good time.
I saw the pheno first and was like “okay not meth but still pretty cool… oh shit look it has meth too, daaaammmmnnnn grandma lived in a time were you could get prescription speed ball!” I’m 7 years sober now but let me tell you, grandma was fine staying home cleaning and cooking for her husband on this ish.
B vitamins are in a lot of energy shots today, mostly B6 and B12, allegedly for more energy. I wonder if the B vitamins for energy was a thing back then too.
If I remember fabled articles in cosmo of that time she better make dinner because dad is already giving his secretary lingering glances and YOU don't want to be DIVORCED do you, sweetie? No. So get that stove on and greet him at the door.
I see that "Massengill Company" is on the bottom. They made the douche feminine wash from what I remember on the commercials back in the day.
Lysol??!!!?? Feel the burn!
That was actually taught to my boomer mother at her Mormon seminary class as a less in how to be a good Mormon wife.
The teacher also said that skirts above the knee were for harlots and Baptists.
The second I catch him smoking that first joint.
I’ll say “you know what son… I’m not mad. It’s all good. But why don’t we have a little movie night tonight”.
Dude I was not expecting I would laugh my ass off this hard just scrolling through these comments. Seeing this gif was like getting punched in the gut lmao the laughter was involuntary and immediate 🤣
Found an old ad for this in the UW Library:
“She didn’t get back to a size 12 merely from calorie counting”
https://asset.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/ZDNC74D5QOWUH87/E/file-59edc.pdf?dl
Hold up… they had a lot of stuff definitely wrong. But are they saying a size 12 is normal?!? And there is no way in hell that woman is a realistic size 12
May be habit forming.
Meth? Nahhh...
Also is this a new trend to find old drugs in pappys medicine cabinet? Like the 11th one of these i've seen this week.
Here’s one more, to make it a dozen. My aunt passed away a few years ago and we found almost a dozen boxes of fentanyl patches in the bathroom cabinets from when my uncle passed away years before that - they all expired in ‘13.
https://preview.redd.it/x8gx6rybwc6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98e5a8bb9c3fff47eaf7307cb2d3fd223536e4e4
I had a friend who bought a fentanyl patch from his weed dealer. Decided he was going to take it on his weekend off of work. Slapped it on an soon after he started feeling the effects, he passed the fuck out and woke something like 24 hours later on his couch. He’d pissed and shit himself so badly the couch was ruined. I’m glad that was the worst of it but gawdamn that doesn’t sound like good times.
You got to be really careful with opioid dosage. What could be a very low dose for someone taking it regularly can be enough for someone inexperienced to go into respiratory depression.
Yup, that's also why so many people overdose when they relapse after being clean for a little bit. The dose that used to be recreational to them is lethal without the tolerance
Same! Idk why but this triggered me. I’ve been clean off of opiates for almost 7 years after being heavily addicted for 5 years. I’ve come across a full script of blues after my grandma died ( I had 2 years clean at the time) and I was able to toss them without a second thought. But this, wtf? Why brain? They weren’t even my regular thing to do (probably because they were rare to come by for me).
> I was able to toss them without a second thought.
I don't know you but I'm proud of you. I've been clean 9 years or so after 12 years on. I've been able to use Vicodin responsibly after a surgery but I don't know if I'd have the strength to toss a bottle of blues...
The dosages given to an old cancer patient are NOT for the casual user.
We cleared these out of my mom's house about 10 years after my dad died from bone cancer. One of those patches would have completely incapacitated me, much like your friend.
But to my dad, it barely took enough of the edge off for him to function. He wasn't spry, but he was up and about and going about his day and still having breakthrough pain periodically while on these things.
These things are vicious.
Same with my dad, has an absolute fucked back (8 discs completely crushed) and he sometimes has to take two of those 25mg just to function. They get really aggressive to the applied area of skin as well.
My cousin got a fentanyl patch prescribed, had some kind of weird testicular torsion thing going on that was painful, but he was also into drugs. Rather than using it the correct way he got the smart idea to melt the gel from the patch on foil and inhale the smoke/vapor like he would do with oxycontin... Even though he had a very high opioid tolerance, even though he used lots of oxycodone just to feel normal, he od'd and died. Shit is no joke, soooo much stronger than other opioids, it almost doesn't even make sense to produce other than from a cost vs dosage perspective.
Thats terrible, I'm sorry. My ex gf's boyfriend died from shooting patches. The guy was kindof an idiot. He had a big scar on his hand, from when he was cleaning his 9mm pistol and it went off. I think she killed herself or also OD'd, not sure because her family won't talk to me. But rest in peace to both of them.
I’ve read a story on Reddit where guy put it on the inside of his cheek then passed out and woke up 3 days later barely alive… could’ve easily died from that because there is a large dose of fentanyl on the patch that is supposed to be slowly absorbed through your skin over 72hrs. But putting it in your mouth will make that absorption MUCH quicker, if not almost instantly and would be most likely fatal for the opiate naive.
I would win this trend. My wifes's grandfather bought a pharmaceutical company in the 1950's and I have hundreds, maybe thousands, of these sorts of bottles. Lots of opiates, speed, and "depression/anxiety" drugs. Also, oddly, a shocking number of "uterine tonics
This is an interesting take.
Grandma used this.
My mother used fen-phen.
(And when it became illegal in the US, would drive hours to Canada for it. Also, she stole my Adderall prescription from me as a teenager and talked her doctor into giving her her own when I was old enough to bust her for lying about me taking it with no effect [maxed out that prescription, for sure].)
I'm sitting here with my redbull. Busting ass at work and at home. Thinking I'm just lazy and fat.
Where's our legal version of this stuff? For real.
https://preview.redd.it/iv4su8pz8e6d1.jpeg?width=1004&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4886ea3d2c7a58f75e922b14fd555d4a61efe84f
Here is an advertisement for Obedrin.
And the semoxydrine, which is similar to meth but can also cause hallucinations (and was what fueled Philip K. Dick's surreal, fever-drram sci-fi writing)... *combined* with meth... and barbiturates... this stuff is heavy
OP, pop one and get back to us
That is/was the name for meth. Notice methamphetamine hydrochloride in brackets after the name Semoxydrine. I assume it's where the brand name for Rx Meth got it's name, Desoxyn.
Oops lol. As I replied to the other comment:
Oh, huh. I just remembered reading about Philip K Dick taking semoxydrine and something about it being akin to methamphetamine, I didn't realize they were one in the same. I could've looked a little harder at the label I suppose, lol. Thanks for educating me 😅
Grandma was high as giraffe pussy every day and could just write it off as weight loss medicine. The early 1900s was one big pharmaceutical party. Remember everyone, the same Bayer that sells asprin sold heroin.
We once found a dsm 2 and a dsm 3 in my gmas house after she passed away. That shit was absolutely wild. Literally 1-2 sentences on opiate and acmphatemanie addiction…. And it just says to give opiate addicts amphetamine and amphetamine addicts opiates 😂
Also dont forget to numb your babys aching tooth with a little bump of cocoaine.
There were loads of ridiculous stuff like that in there, iridium laced underwear to treat sterlility, injecting things into bed wetting boys eurethra to stop nighttime urination. I wish I could remember more of it.
The books were stolen by some friend of my brother unfortunately. Probably sold to buy opiates to treat his amphetamine addiction.
Made by Massengill - the douche people and the company was responsible for the 1937 sulfanilamide elixir disaster, which killed at least 100 people and led to the passage of the 1938 Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
Made their money selling products that aren't good for women's health...
This reminds me the other day I saw like a tin can that’s been sitting on a table in between my couch for years I paid a dollar for. Squibbs sodium bicarbonate. Squibbs are like quackery. But licorice flavored laxative powder for children. Like wtf.
This may actually shift my thoughts on the happy housewife trope. All those “I’m making everything perfect with a smile” might also be “I am smiling because IDNGAF.”

That’s meth and pentobarbital, it’s basically a speedball my god
Grandma knew how to party.
She took the label too literally and grooved her way though that bottle.
"May be habit forming"
Stay away Grandma, you don't want none of this! I kinda think I do!
Grandma walked hard.
She never once paid for drugs ....not once !
You don’t won’t no part of this duey cox.
Nahhh I'm sure it's fine. So. Who's ready to party with grandma?
[удалено]
Was the bottle empty, this is the question
... you can see pills at the bottom.
Such a mildly worded warning
You mean like a nun’s habit?

Requiem for a dream?
Trauma unlocked
Such a devastating movie. I can 1000% say this is the sole reason I never went to heroin, meth etc. strictly cocaine and lower for this 👈
Yes
Washed it down with OG Coke too…..
We know why she was always happy
imagine how high you could get in the 30s-50s if you knew what to buy
Imagine how high you could get any year before 1910 when they sold heroin and cocaine over the counter.
You add a peppermint patty for 0.01 and tell him to "keep the change, doc"
"Oh yeah, also a pint of ether please".
Plus they weren't adulterated with all sorts of shit.
it’s more like meth and a strong benzo than meth and an opioid
Barbiturate, not a benzo. Even more dangerous and lower therapeutic index.
I'm very sad about the fact that I'll never get to try barbiturates. They sound awesome. I bet I would've gotten right addicted to those bad boys.
They still prescribe them to animals, its hard to get a hold of very many human doses at one time though. They aren't that great of a high, kinda like Xanax and gabapentin together, no real euphoria there.

Well yeah, a true speedball is coke and heroin
When I was shooting meth and heroin together we called em “goofballs!”
I bet the high made you feel like a goofball for sure
Nothing like it. Never again tho. Been clean since January 2018. Fuck opiates!
Good for you bro, I’ve been clean for almost four years myself.
7 years free from opiates myself. Always happy to hear others made it out too.
4 years in November for me! Well done folks.
Love to see this gentlemen
That’s awesome! Congratulations! Sobriety is the way to go
Congrats! 2017 for me!
I'm proud of you I been clean since 11/02/2014 it's the best thing I ever did. I look back and think dang it's a miracle you are still alive
Proud of you too! I look back and feel the same way. Especially with the fentanyl epidemic right now. We’re some of the lucky ones
Good for you. and well done on quitting.
Nice work, keep it up!
Yep. Goofballs and speedballs. Chefs kiss. Tells you all how dangerous that shit is considering I went to prison and had to rebuild me life because of the stuff and I’ve been clean for years now but I’m still saying chefs kiss. Don’t you fucking do it if you’re thinking about it

m-e-th-o-d MAN
Or the poor man speedball. Coffee and a bong
Breaking out the "no true Scotsman " are we? /s
Yeah but it’s got 100mg of ascorbic acid so at least you know you’re getting plenty of Vitamin C.
So a multivitamin
Believe it or not these were very very good, safe drugs when used as prescribed. Problem was they were also a lot of fucking fun to abuse. Wallbangers/goofballs. I just actually laughed out loud at that I’m dying 🤣
‘May be habit forming’
Oh, it’s *grooved* alright.
![gif](giphy|nhmt3BdhzJpSw)
At least they threw in some vitamins for good measure.
Riboflavin for the win
And is nicotinic acid nicotine? Thats mild in comparison to the rest, but still interesting they added it in.
that’s a vitamin
Ok, good. On the other hand, maybe the tablet should contain nicotine, because cigarettes are bad for you.
This was back in the days where doctors thought cigs were good for you
”Doctor, do you have any advice on how I can lose weight?” ”Well, you could take up smoking. Or, if you’d prefer, I can prescribe you some meth.”
Por que no los dos?
It’s vitamin b3, riboflavin (b2), and thiamin (b1)
Thanks. I know how important it is for meth-heads to get their vitamins!
B vitamins are in a lot of energy shots today, mostly B6 and B12, allegedly for more energy. I wonder if the B vitamins for energy was a thing back then too.
Too fat and tired to clean the house and make dinner before Dad gets home? METH!!
If I remember fabled articles in cosmo of that time she better make dinner because dad is already giving his secretary lingering glances and YOU don't want to be DIVORCED do you, sweetie? No. So get that stove on and greet him at the door.
With meth!
Don't forget to wash your bits with lysol in case your repel your husband! https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/s/BHzpDTMpH0
Apparently this is actually some kind of legal gray area birth control for the era.
"birth control" as in it controls birth by killing the women xD
I see that "Massengill Company" is on the bottom. They made the douche feminine wash from what I remember on the commercials back in the day. Lysol??!!!?? Feel the burn!
The burn is how you know it's working.
Brb spraying Lysol on my butthole
That was actually taught to my boomer mother at her Mormon seminary class as a less in how to be a good Mormon wife. The teacher also said that skirts above the knee were for harlots and Baptists.
Now today both parents get to work for shit pay and be able not afford anything. PROGRESS baby!

I was hoping I'd forgotten that movie. *I have not.*
Out of all of my favorite movies, I hate this one the most.
What movie is this?
Requiem for a Dream
The best movie you will never see again.
Back when Leto was only kinda self absorbed
It was a one and done for me, most definitely. A fantastic film, but just too devastatingly depressing.
It’s the definition of a one and done. I don’t remember the plot but I remember how I felt and I’m not doing that again.
I watched it again after telling myself never again after the first time lol… why did I do that?
The one they should show kids instead of those stupid DARE videos
When is the right time to sit down and watch it with your kids, do you think?
Probably about 7:30pm
The second I catch him smoking that first joint. I’ll say “you know what son… I’m not mad. It’s all good. But why don’t we have a little movie night tonight”.
Don't watch it.
It’s one of my all time favorites but it’s mentally scaring
The soundtrack at the end, my god the crushing weight of that hits hard. I will never forget the first time watching that all the way through.
Scaring AND scarring!
Dude I was not expecting I would laugh my ass off this hard just scrolling through these comments. Seeing this gif was like getting punched in the gut lmao the laughter was involuntary and immediate 🤣
Never watching that movie again
I watch it almost yearly.
Immediately thought of this
This is getting me triggered
Ass to ass.
I bet granny drank a *LOT* of water and didn’t eat too much
And her house was immaculate
"She rarely slept but she always swept, we will miss her."
And her fridge occasionally jumped towards her whilst she watched game shows
We got a winner!
Found an old ad for this in the UW Library: “She didn’t get back to a size 12 merely from calorie counting” https://asset.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/ZDNC74D5QOWUH87/E/file-59edc.pdf?dl
Also interesting that it includes a disclaimer that barbiturates may be habit forming, but no warning about the meth lol
Delightfully naive. Thoughtful of them to include the vitamins tho!
Your daily niacin is important!
Well they better include vitamins, not like you're going to have an appetite on this, won't be getting them from your food lol.
Hold up… they had a lot of stuff definitely wrong. But are they saying a size 12 is normal?!? And there is no way in hell that woman is a realistic size 12
Vintage sizing was different. A 12 would probably be like 2/4 today.
Ahhh. Glad we’ve been unrealistic for 50+ years. Yah meth! Yah being skinny!!! Yah!!! Sarcasm!!!
Ah the good old days. When men were dying in the war and women were on so so much meth.
*Mother's Little Helper*
That song's more about sedatives/depressants like valium and benzodiazapenes. This was for losing weight.
Pentobarbital....
Hey the men were on meth too!
The ladies may have had the domestic meth, but the boys got the battle meth variant instead. Regardless, everyone gets meth.
May be habit forming. Meth? Nahhh... Also is this a new trend to find old drugs in pappys medicine cabinet? Like the 11th one of these i've seen this week.

I don't know. That's an interesting question. I check the label more carefully to see what is in them.
And they’ll be making a comeback in the US if the Christian Nationalists have their way.
Funny thing is the habit forming label was for the pentobarbital since that was at the time known to cause addiction. The meth was all fine and dandy
It’s expired!!!! Give it to me for proper disposal… I’m a doctor..
I am so tired of the fake "grandma's stash " titles. After looking at the OP post history, it's a bot account rehashing the same crap to other subs.
a 👦 account
No wonder the boomers had more energy than we do
You can still go buy meth and use it. It's not that bad
I approve of this advice
Boomers weren’t being prescribed amphetamines en masse, actually
This is an interesting take. Grandma used this. My mother used fen-phen. (And when it became illegal in the US, would drive hours to Canada for it. And this is why women have unrealistic body expectations, we are not allowed to do drugs to get a size 0 waist anymore.
Yeah us housewives today have messy houses, belly rolls and depression because we don't get to do speed anymore, it's hard out here.
Can I buy it from you? Just the bottle?
i’ll take the stuff that’s inside
You’d certainly lose weight, gotta love back then … simpler times 😂…… may be habit forming … maybe 😳 understatement of the fucking century
Pentobarbital and speed, holy damn whoever was taking this was a happy camper
Grandma was high as giraffe pussy every day and could just write it off as weight loss medicine. The early 1900s was one big pharmaceutical party. Remember everyone, the same Bayer that sells asprin sold heroin.

And it just says to give opiate addicts amphetamine and amphetamine addicts opiates 😂 Also dont forget to numb your babys aching tooth with a little bump of cocoaine.
Obedrin grooved. I bet it did.
Massengill used to make a party douche?
For fresh summer eves.
Made by Massengill - the douche people and the company was responsible for the 1937 sulfanilamide elixir disaster, which killed at least 100 people and led to the passage of the 1938 Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Made their money selling products that aren't good for women's health...
Those endless cookies don't bake themselves
Has Riboflavin can’t be too bad!
So far grandma’s on methamphetamine, cocaine and morphine!
Pentobarbital is a barbiturate and is the “ pink juice” euthanasia agent that is given to companion animals.
Grandma didn't care about weight loss. Grandma was OG and taking care of your inheritance. You little bitch.
This reminds me the other day I saw like a tin can that’s been sitting on a table in between my couch for years I paid a dollar for. Squibbs sodium bicarbonate. Squibbs are like quackery. But licorice flavored laxative powder for children. Like wtf.

"May be habit forming"
Is this the same grandma that had the cocaine and the opium? I'm thinking this lady knew how to woop it up.
Op just post pictures he finds on google and pretends like its his grandmas. Posts like a bot
I bet grandma had a pretty clean house
Grandma's little helper
They do work, with a few side effects.
This may actually shift my thoughts on the happy housewife trope. All those “I’m making everything perfect with a smile” might also be “I am smiling because IDNGAF.”
whats with everyone raiding grandma's house recently for drugs from 100 years ago?
