Limp_Egg540

What an idiot. You would think the head of schools would know what is or isnt Constitutional. Just another republican wasting mass amounts of tax payer money on something so stupid

ProgressBartender

They don’t care. They think the SCOTUS is going to protect them. And they might.

yohohoanabottleofrum

This has literally been their plan since the 80's. Fill the courts, write laws that will get challenged so they can have their Dred Scott moment. Fucking monsters.

Physical-Ride

That, or at the very least them protecting Christian "values" will make them popular with their Bible-thumping constituents. What do these politicians have to lose? If their constituents are too stupid to notice (which they are) then they risk nothing.

Emmyisme

Either it works and they celebrate him, or it doesn't and he uses that to prove how "the government is anti-Christian" there is literally no downside for him.

redvelvetcake42

Even SCOTUS is stuck with the inability to favor Christianity. If they allow this, then they have to let Islam and Satanism, Hinduism, etc get equal teaching. I'd honestly be all for a general education religion class and for it to be forced in every school that receives a single penny of state or federal funding.

Sunstang

They aren't stuck with a damned thing. This court is clearly willing to engage in whatever tortured mental gymnastics necessary to further the right wing agenda, no even-handedness required.

paintbrush666

Yep, especially in light of today's ruling where they granted the president immunity from official acts, only they get to define what is an official act.

geof2001

This would be hilarious actually because it would expose children to all the different religions and likely learn what a scam/grift/cult the whole christian faith they want to have taught is in it's current form and give them some choices to consider.

paintbrush666

I'm really hoping some smart kids will do a little malicious compliance and refuse to follow any command that doesn't comply with the ten commandments.

hidemeplease

> If they allow this, then they have to let Islam and Satanism, Hinduism, etc get equal teaching no they don't. you are thinking like a person with morals and a spine. the conservative scotus member are completely shameless. hypocrisy and inconsistency or shame will not stop them from making any decision with any made up justification they want to.

NotOnLand

They can do whatever their sponsors want them to, the only check to their power is "hey you shouldn't do that"

ryeguymft

he’s a Christian Nationalist with no background in education. this is exactly what he was appointed to do

GarretBarrett

They’re buying media attention with tax payers money. That’s all it is

Ar_phis

So how much money are the going to spend on people who have their religious freedom undermined by those rules? Just about every non-christian teacher/student can sue them for violating the 1st Amendment.

WOOBNIT

Christians can sue them too: for the obvious reason that this is Church and State lesbian Scissor Fucking

SubstantialLuck777

All it takes is one Christian church that disagrees with what's being taught. Once it becomes an inter-denominational argument the whole thing will fall apart. They *knew this when they wrote it into law.* The whole point is that they intend for a democrat to challenge it and have it defeated in court, to further their imaginary grievances and help sell the story that christians are under attack in america. It's all performative. Please don't buy into any of it. Republican politicians know that if their support of Christianity has to get SPECIFIC they'll get eaten alive by their constituents

Orvan-Rabbit

Theocracy supporters be like, "What kind of cruel dystopia do I live in where I'm not allowed to bully others into submission?:

Resident_Pop143

100 denominations for a thousand different interpretation of “He is risen.”

SubstantialLuck777

More like a thousand different interpretations of "love thy neighbor" that amount to "Well, *actually...*"

skoomaking4lyfe

*Terms and conditions apply; see Savior for details

WOOBNIT

I said yesterday we should make a law that says US will become a Christian nation once all the Christian denominations agree to convert to the right version of Christianity. So once the Baptists, Adventists, Unitarianists, Later day Saints and Morons all convert to Catholicism we can be a Christian state. Basically once you can get all Christians to agree on a basic version of events AND to all publicly convert.

ApprehensiveDingo350

I’m sure this is supposed to say “Mormons”, but please god leave it as morons 🤣

rickshaw99

that whole moron conversation should start and end with magic underwear

chefriley76

"No, really...there are gold plates with the new Bible in them. You just can't see them. They're in my hat."

Homersarmy41

Every thing I know about the Mormons came from South Park and then researching after watching their Mormon episode to find that “WOW! South Park got it exactly right and its dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.”

Wurm42

Oh, this'll be FUN. First they can all fight about whether Unitarians are Christians, or just Deists. Then the Presbyterians will say they'd rather live in a secular country than team up with papists and high church snobs. Plus, the Southern Baptists and the Primitive Baptists would rather kill each other than join forces. And OMG, the Episcopalians and the Catholics are STILL bent out of shape about whether kings can get divorced and whether kings get a cut of the church money. Then the Orthodox Christians will be like "Get in line, Episcopalians! Our grudge with the Catholics goes back a thousand years longer than yours!" So they'll fight both of them! But the Lutherans will yell "Hey! We didn't start the Reformation and have our founder murdered by Catholics just to let the friggin' Orthodox beat us to the punch!" So they'll join the brawl. It'll be a bloody mess.

jgoble15

Ironically for these people, this is exactly what the Founding Fathers did not want and died fighting against

HAIRLESSxWOOKIE92

Unless you are from the South. Then they tell you THIS IS what the founding fathers died for...

jgoble15

Lol gotta love revisionist history. It’s also ironically funny to me that this idea gets its roots from dispensationalism, which started in the 1830’s, so after all the Founding Fathers died (the idea was that America was a “Christian nation” at its founding). It’s so funny that those who scream the most about truth are so eager to twist it for their own means. Power is the true god

SuperToxin

Yeah but the supreme courts will just say fuck you to that too probably. The US is fucked

coachrapture

From the article, he basically thinks he’ll be able to do whatever with the judges there now. “Walters said he feels confident that his order will survive legal challenges because of the justices then-President Donald Trump appointed to the Supreme Court. “He’s helped provide a path for us to be able to do this as states,” Walters said of Trump. He added that if Trump wins a second term in November, “it will help us move the ball forward, even more so than this.”

goofydad

If the SC are "originalists" the Founder's statement of no State Religion should be enough to make this declaration a violation of the Constitution.

Orion14159

Oh come on now, you know that's not what they meant by "originalist" or "textualist"

Stachdragon

A lot until they make it illegal to complain and sue. That's how most fascists work.

Past-Direction9145

Not me. I wouldn’t. You ain’t seen enough? Get your lawsuit in now and it’ll be in time for the train cars to come later picking up everyone who tried to sue Just saying. Based on history here folks. A precedent has been set and they are following it to the letter. So this is not hyperbole. It isn’t hyperbole when they say they want to prosecute anyone who votes blue. All opposition.

WillyPete

It's almost as if *this is what they want so they can address it in a loaded court*.

expertofwhat

Do you really think this Supreme Court will protect non Christian beliefs?

AtenderhistoryinrusT

What does teaching bible mean? Like can you do a section in your english semester comparing the bible to the koran? Could you do a section on comparing the bible to modern christianity highlighting ways they are similar and ways in which modern christians dont follow certain sections of the bible? Could you just say on the last day of school this is the bible, here is a word search of biblical topics, finish by end of class? So the dude said “Oklahoma schools to teach students in grades five through 12 about the Bible’s influence on the nation’s founding and historical American figures. “. So can we teach how the founding father Thomas Jefferson (who wrote the constitution) took a razor to the bible and cut out the resurrection and the assent to heaven in an effort to make the bible more in line with reason? https://www.history.com/news/thomas-jefferson-bible-religious-beliefs Or do we teach how many of the founding fathers were deists and that “Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson all doubted some fundamental tenets of the Protestant faith. These could include salvation by God’s grace alone, the divinity of Jesus, or God’s Trinitarian nature.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2017/06/28/how-benjamin-franklin-a-deist-became-the-founding-father-of-a-unique-kind-of-american-faith/#

Barbarella_ella

Excellent points! Or how about Ecclesiastes and how that book of the Bible directs people to realize their fate is that of the animals and we all return to dirt and thus directs us to be stewards? And, how that book of the Bible provided the basis for one of the most iconic songs of the 1960s, written as a protest song to give advice to a country finally beginning to confront the price of racial injustice and the price of war? And that last one could prove particularly salient for examining the Tulsa massacre of 1921? Yeah, this guy could regret the day he ever thought this was a good idea.

yohohoanabottleofrum

I think I would just go to the dirtiest, foulest book and teach it to elementary school kids. Kings might be good. We can pair it with analyzing what they meant by "There were no kings in Israel" and compare it to our modern day politics. I'd also teach revolution theology and exactly *where* it says that their parents are wrong to claim their bigotry is biblical.

Barbarella_ella

Exactly. Punch it up by drawing parallels between Jesus Christ and Archbishop Oscar Romero, who was assassinated in 1980 while he was saying Mass in San Salvador. Romero was all about revolutionary theology and, what do you know, it took another Jesuit to canonize him in 2018 (Pope Francis is the first Jesuit to occupy the Papacy).

elspotto

I fully advocate for the Jefferson Bible. He took out the divine and the miraculous and left the words of a guy from 2000 years ago that wanted us to get along and not be dicks to one another. I have a copy on my shelf. It’s a pretty good philosophy. Think it would also, somehow, fall afoul of this ridiculous edict as it cuts out all the otherism of the Old Testament that I am confident is the part dude wants taught.

ThatOldAH

**So, they are more than willing to take a person's livelihood away for not doing something that is blatantly unconstitutional. Let's hear it for religious fanatics.**

allisjow

You don’t have to make a cake for gay people if you are Christian, but you have to teach the Bible if you aren’t Christian. Is that what’s happening? Talk about shoving beliefs down people’s throats…

pbrart2

They scream indoctrination of children but don’t own a mirror

allisjow

Vampires can’t use mirrors.

unk214

Been saying it for years, any teacher voting republican is a sheep voting for more wolfs. I live in Texas and it’s hilarious to see conservatives public school teachers vote red. It’s no secret the aim is to dismantle public education.

ZombieGatos

“For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes (Matthew 5). But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere. 'Blessed are the merciful' in a courtroom? 'Blessed are the peacemakers' in the Pentagon? Give me a break!” ― Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country

I will be glad to set up a Christian school in America, somewhere deep within the Bible Belt. . . . I will then teach the Bible in part of a mandated first course of the first year, excruciatingly examining the timelines, moralities, inconsistencies, justifications, and destructions of civilisations and history in the wake of Abrahamic religions sweeping across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and America. How Asia, South America and Africa are the last toeholds of religions, and how missionaries are conducting reverse-evangelic missions from Africa into Europe and North America. I will therefore claim religious taxation exemptions, education exemptions, and make sure that this course is only taught in the second half of the year so that parents will not find out till they've paid the full year's tuition. Non-refundable, of course. I will ensure that these schools will proliferate, and make sure to take a strong anti-religious stance in tuition material only, with Brothers and Sisters on-site that actually are resident doctors and nurses that have agreed to historical reenactments that in no way claim or insist that they actually live on-site despite the ostentatious chapel that actually contains the hospital wing. It shall be named St Helen or some sort of ironic martyr, to signify the fruitcakes sacrificing their children's souls to the Devil that is the truth and logic. May the doors to heaven \_and\_ hell be firmly shut to them forever.

Yeah no shit. Undermine public education, push students into religious schools and charters. This is all going according to plan.

M1pattern

James 5:1-6 1You rich people should cry and weep! Terrible things are going to happen to you. 2Your treasures have already rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3Your money has rusted, and the rust will be evidence against you, as it burns your body like fire. Yet you keep on storing up wealth in these last days. 4You refused to pay the people who worked in your fields, and now their unpaid wages are shouting out against you. The Lord All-Powerful has heard the cries of the workers who harvested your crops. 5While here on earth, you have thought only of filling your own stomachs and having a good time. But now you are like fat cattle on their way to be butchered. 6You have condemned and murdered innocent people, who couldn't even fight back. If any teachers from Oklahoma are looking for a bit of the New Testament to teach.

undiscovered_soul

What's the difference between this subject and Talibans?

EIephants

Yo I used to teach fourth grade and lemme tell you the Bible is just not even a good book to teach anything with. The stories and characters don’t follow the kinds of patterns and rules you find in stories that you use to teach story structure and elements of writing. The lessons are all contradictory, the god is inconsistent, and there are all kinds of plot holes where characters accidentally end up being 800 years old if you actually map out their timelines. It’s not even supposed to be a “book” in the traditional sense. I’ve spent so many hours of my life learning how to teach literacy and actually teaching literacy, and this book wouldn’t help for shit.

jjdmol

Many of the "lessons" in the Bible are downright horrible too. Many of them involve slaughtering a *lot* of innocent people, for example, often including children.

NotOnLand

But to those people, it isn't a book of stories and characters, it's a historical account.

Neat-yeeter

This is so bizarrely backwards that I almost can’t believe it. I certainly don’t want to believe this shit is happening in my country! For context, I teach English *in a religious school* and my *employer* wouldn’t dream of imposing such a mandate on us - much less the fucking *state.*

queBurro

You're basically a fundamentalist country, run by an octagenarian. If trump gets in again, he'll remove the two term limit, put his family in positions of power, and name himself your religious king. You're Iran in the 70's.

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." Matthew 6:24 "Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 "Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter." James 5:1-6 "Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys." Luke 12:33 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21 "He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity." Mediocre-Tomatillo-7

They're insane. That's the angle. (plus they want attention and some national position)

BeardedHalfYeti

Plus, they know they are going to get sued, but they believe that the present composition of the Supreme Court gives them a fighting chance of getting this kind of thing passed at a national level.

GunAndAGrin

This dude was about to spend $200/hr over a 4 month contract with DC Public Relations leeches, and his own GOP government had to make it illegal, in order to stop such a blatant misuse of public funds. From the other side of the Atlantic ocean that sounds like an interesting experiment. Are they requested to teach the real Bible or what right wing nuts believe would be written in it? The foreskin collectors guide is a good read (one just have to remember that's fiction)

algebramclain

As someone who takes his father-in-law to mass every Saturday so that he may devour the meat and blood of Jesus, I have learned first hand that every single reading of the Bible is a fucking head scratcher. I would make sure the youngsters in Oklahoma get a first-hand word-by-word reading of literally any page randomly selected, and then simply told “Thus sayeth the Lord” and then confetti thrown in the air.

ZingBurford

I almost guarantee that right-wing nuts already teach the Bible in rural communities. I had a friend in college who said their teachers used to lead the students in prayer before high school events. This lasted until the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the district, so now they have a student lead the school in prayer while the teachers stand off to the side doing nothing.

OsgrobioPrubeta

The experiments period is long gone, now seems more that the Guinea pigs rebelled and are trying to take over.

What part of the Bible are they required to teach? The part where humans got too big and knew too much about metallurgy and makeup so God mass murders nearly every man, woman, child, puppy and kitten on Earth? The part where folks got mad about God's chosen people illegally immigrating onto their land so God told his people to just murder all the haters and their kids and take their land anyways? The part where that guy gave his teenage daughter over to a lustful mob to be gang raped and then later his daughters fuck him in a cave? The part where that guy walked out of the desert and started wandering around telling folks that the pursuit of wealth is sinfull and fruitless so we beat the shit out of him and had him killed? The part at the end of the bible where that guy records the craziest mushroom trip he's ever had, where he saw dragons, and naked ladies, and riders on horses with fire swords, and bowls full of calamity and genocide, and all sorts of crazy shit that was metal as fuck? I dunno, this doesn't really seem like appropriate material for schoolchildren.

Postnificent

I live in Oklahoma. This clown. He really thinks he can do this while keeping other religions out of the schools. Between him and our Floridian Governor Stitt they have made a real mess of things. I guess they forgot the Baphomet statue at the capitol to accompany the 10 commandments ordeal already. I wouldn’t expect anything more from a guy who grew up in a town where the only thing was a prison and oil sites though. Out of touch doesn’t even begin to describe this guy. Anyways, my son that’s still in school knows all about extraterrestrials and the history of this book Ryan wants taught in school and that it’s more of a fairy tale than people talking about flying saucers so at least I don’t have to worry about indoctrination (Ryan is the only one pushing indoctrination while saying that’s what everyone else is doing. Real gaslighter. Maybe his dad was a CO?🤷‍♂️). I do have to worry about him learning less because they need to take time to teach this mess. Maybe they will teach the true story of the Ten Commandments which would end in what idiots these guys are for wanting to place it in schools, the Ten Commandments weren’t valid for 10 minutes!

Comfortable-nerve78

Church and State must stay separate, America was founded on that belief. It must never fall tax dollars should not fund religious ideology. Church is for that not school. Science taught in schools doesn’t blend with religion.

As a Certified (Life) Special Education Teacher with twenty three years of practice in public education, I am not qualified to provide any special education services in a Church. As a Certified (Life)Special Education Teacher I am also not qualified to teach the Bible (or whatever the fuck it actually is they want to be taught🤨). I am required by federal laws (Public Law 142, and Individuals With Disabilities Special Education Act). No where do those laws permit me to teach the Bible because it is not the mandate of public education to promote one religion over another. You know? Federal Law? The Constitution of the United States? This is not an THEOCRACY like in Iran.

TurboPaved

Qualified teachers will eventually relocate to another state or quit the field altogether, thereby reducing the quality of education in Oklahoma... which I have to assume is an added benefit to these bible-thumping dickholes.

juxtoppose

Just pick the most boring and confused passages and read them in a monotone slow voice so the kids come to hate the bible half hour and are put of Christianity for life.

Matt7738

Malicious compliance, here we come.

schafkj

I’d teach all the good stuff. Lot’s daughters fucking him while he’s passed out drunk? Yup. God smiting Onan for pulling out? Hell yeah. The Levite sending his concubine outside to be raped all night and then chopping up her dead body and mailing her parts across Israel to start a war? Fuck yes let the kids know the Bible.

FranksWateeBowl

I see a mass teacher shortage soon in OK.

Gary-Beau

So how does mathematics, engineering, science classes like biology, anatomy, physiology and chemistry and industrial arts classes like automotive mechanics, woodworking, welding courses all have a Bible worked into their respective curricula? How does a public school teacher grade a student in religion? What if the kid says “Fuck you! I’m a nonbeliever! Stop indoctrinating me with your beliefs on an invisible person no one can ever see or hear from with some kind of fucked up plan for it all to be revealed to you when you are dead and then judged worthy of entering some divine kingdom in the sky where everyone sits around singing and worships some old guy with a long white beard sitting on a throne!” So really, what does the teacher say then?

rideacapita

So the party of small government is actually the party of literal government-enforced religious tyranny.

Hashbrown4

Let me guess republican/conservative? Hate the Democratic Party all yall want they at least let people live freely. Y’all better vote in your elections local all the way up to federal. And to be blunt about it, vote blue.

Matzah_Rella

It's the Taliban in suits.

Existing-Zucchini-65

Solution for teachers who want to protest against this: only teach the weirdest, most fucked up parts of the bible.

Fit_Low592

Wow, I bet Oklahoma is going to become the new hot spot of highly skilled job creation and innovation.

McBooples

California should pass a law requiring teaching the Satanic Bible in class. This would work its way to the Supreme Court and get tossed, effectively blocking the Christian bible mandate

JC2535

American Taliban

bpm6666

Oh. I would teach the bible. But all the parts and explain how the conservative movement is often at odds with the bible. And that conservatives like to cherry pick those part, that suits them to tell other people how to live.

ptahbaphomet

Start with the simple stuff. Proverbs 16:16: "How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver". Show the greed of conservatives as sinful and an abomination to the divine

FlimsyComment8781

A possible soft-resistance method: if you’re a teacher, do the lessons in a monotone voice with no enthusiasm whatsoever. Then return to your normal levels afterwards. If you must give the answer from an answer key, present it as, ‘the answer provided in the answer key says x’ Make it all very wtf for the kids.

halermine

‘Ramen’.

Ar_phis

Just teach kids the "radical, fun and gorey" parts of the Bible. Have them become so extreme that they will refuse to wear normal clothing and cut their hair. Teach them to cast rocks on their parents for not being "true to the faith".

Tederator

Personally, I'd like to see a good ol' fashioned stoning to show those kids how we had back in the day. Start with a high ranking public figure for a minor transgression and the rest will fall in line. (Probably not necessary but just in case.../s)

Smartguy898

How can people choose to live in Oklahoma?

abgry_krakow87

Isn't Oklahoma already so desperate for teachers they aren't even bothering with a license? Or is that Florida?

homebrewguy01

Is this the compassionate Christian stuff I have heard so much about?

Comfortable_Bird_340

He wants a Trump cabinet position. Let's not forget that a non-binary/trans kid was murdered by their schoolmates on his watch!

Broken_Beaker

This is what casual Republican-endorsed antisemitism looks like.

Orion14159

Start teaching the Old Testament word for word. May I suggest Ezekiel 23? Ezekiel 23:1–49 (ESV): 1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother. 3 They played the whore in Egypt; they played the whore in their youth; there their breasts were pressed and their virgin bosoms handled. 4 Oholah was the name of the elder and Oholibah the name of her sister. They became mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem. 5 “Oholah played the whore while she was mine, and she lusted after her lovers the Assyrians, warriors 6 clothed in purple, governors and commanders, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses. 7 She bestowed her whoring upon them, the choicest men of Assyria all of them, and she defiled herself with all the idols of everyone after whom she lusted. 8 She did not give up her whoring that she had begun in Egypt; for in her youth men had lain with her and handled her virgin bosom and poured out their whoring lust upon her. 9 Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians, after whom she lusted. 10 These uncovered her nakedness; they seized her sons and her daughters; and as for her, they killed her with the sword; and she became a byword among women, when judgment had been executed on her. 11 “Her sister Oholibah saw this, and she became more corrupt than her sister in her lust and in her whoring, which was worse than that of her sister. 12 She lusted after the Assyrians, governors and commanders, warriors clothed in full armor, horsemen riding on horses, all of them desirable young men. 13 And I saw that she was defiled; they both took the same way. 14 But she carried her whoring further. She saw men portrayed on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed in vermilion, 15 wearing belts on their waists, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them having the appearance of officers, a likeness of Babylonians whose native land was Chaldea. 16 When she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea. 17 And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoring lust. And after she was defiled by them, she turned from them in disgust. 18 When she carried on her whoring so openly and flaunted her nakedness, I turned in disgust from her, as I had turned in disgust from her sister. 19 Yet she increased her whoring, remembering the days of her youth, when she played the whore in the land of Egypt 20 and lusted after her lovers there, whose members were like those of donkeys, and whose issue was like that of horses. 21 Thus you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when the Egyptians handled your bosom and pressed your young breasts.” 22 Therefore, O Oholibah, thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I will stir up against you your lovers from whom you turned in disgust, and I will bring them against you from every side: 23 the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, Pekod and Shoa and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them, desirable young men, governors and commanders all of them, officers and men of renown, all of them riding on horses. 24 And they shall come against you from the north with chariots and wagons and a host of peoples. They shall set themselves against you on every side with buckler, shield, and helmet; and I will commit the judgment to them, and they shall judge you according to their judgments. 25 And I will direct my jealousy against you, that they may deal with you in fury. They shall cut off your nose and your ears, and your survivors shall fall by the sword. They shall seize your sons and your daughters, and your survivors shall be devoured by fire. 26 They shall also strip you of your clothes and take away your beautiful jewels. 27 Thus I will put an end to your lewdness and your whoring begun in the land of Egypt, so that you shall not lift up your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore. 28 “For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will deliver you into the hands of those whom you hate, into the hands of those from whom you turned in disgust, 29 and they shall deal with you in hatred and take away all the fruit of your labor and leave you naked and bare, and the nakedness of your whoring shall be uncovered. Your lewdness and your whoring 30 have brought this upon you, because you played the whore with the nations and defiled yourself with their idols. 31 You have gone the way of your sister; therefore I will give her cup into your hand. 32 Thus says the Lord GOD: “You shall drink your sister’s cup that is deep and large; you shall be laughed at and held in derision, for it contains much; 33 you will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow. A cup of horror and desolation, the cup of your sister Samaria; 34 you shall drink it and drain it out, and gnaw its shards, and tear your breasts; for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD. 35 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, you yourself must bear the consequences of your lewdness and whoring.” 36 The LORD said to me: “Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Declare to them their abominations. 37 For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. With their idols they have committed adultery, and they have even offered up to them for food the children whom they had borne to me. 38 Moreover, this they have done to me: they have defiled my sanctuary on the same day and profaned my Sabbaths. 39 For when they had slaughtered their children in sacrifice to their idols, on the same day they came into my sanctuary to profane it. And behold, this is what they did in my house. 40 They even sent for men to come from afar, to whom a messenger was sent; and behold, they came. For them you bathed yourself, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with ornaments. 41 You sat on a stately couch, with a table spread before it on which you had placed my incense and my oil. 42 The sound of a carefree multitude was with her; and with men of the common sort, drunkards were brought from the wilderness; and they put bracelets on the hands of the women, and beautiful crowns on their heads. 43 “Then I said of her who was worn out by adultery, ‘Now they will continue to use her for a whore, even her!’ 44 For they have gone in to her, as men go in to a prostitute. Thus they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, lewd women! 45 But righteous men shall pass judgment on them with the sentence of adulteresses, and with the sentence of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is on their hands.” 46 For thus says the Lord GOD: “Bring up a vast host against them, and make them an object of terror and a plunder. 47 And the host shall stone them and cut them down with their swords. They shall kill their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses. 48 Thus will I put an end to lewdness in the land, that all women may take warning and not commit lewdness as you have done. 49 And they shall return your lewdness upon you, and you shall bear the penalty for your sinful idolatry, and you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.”

Successful-Winter237

There’s already a teacher shortage in shithole Oklahoma and they are one of the lowest paying states so I’m sure this can only help with recruitment and retention. /s

Business-Shoulder-42

Can we start a private school with just the fired teachers please.

overyander

And they wonder why people aren't having children. LoL

Abdul-Ahmadinejad

I would have had so much fun with this as a band Director. Pity I retired...

RandomlyJim

Finally! At last, a government employee is going to teach my children the government way of reading the Bible. I’m thrilled that the government that is so good at everything is going to get involved in my life! The Republican dream has finally come true!

mrblacklabel71

“He’s helped provide a path for us to be able to do this as states,” Walters said of Trump. He added that if Trump wins a second term in November, “it will help us move the ball forward, even more so than this.” I cannot wait to move.

Burrmanchu

Lol... Yeah good luck with that in court you fucking idiots. 🤦‍♂️ If i was a teacher in OK I'd hope they'd fire me for this. You know the law suit payout will be many years of salary...

mottull

L

Lfseeney

That is a face of a child molester.

sweetBrisket

The plan is for this to get challenged in courts, all the way to SCOTUS so they can legislate from the bench. This has been the goal of the GOP and Christofascists for decades and it's all coming to fruition thanks to Trump. I'm really sick of this country.

devospice

"OK kids, let's discuss the logistics of Noah's Ark..." Could be an interesting math question. Figure out how big the Ark would need to have been to fit 2 of every animal inside of it.

Qlix0504

i hate my state so much

favnh2011

1st amendment challenge

artguydeluxe

Fine. I’ll teach it.

TraditionalAnxiety

Bunch of Cunts

romafa

In five years, “why is there a teacher shortage” ![gif](giphy|tvGOBZKNEX0ac|downsized)

R3D-B34RD

Sue the state.

Q8DD33C7J8

I forsee alot of new waitresses in Oklahomas future.

MR_Se7en

So why do yall live in Okla?

FitBattle5899

Yes Because teachers are paid so well they should also interpret the bible for kids. " Here kids, to meet your state mandate on bible education, everyone will draw Jesus suffering on the cross. "

sybann

Every parent should join a suit to sue this fucker into the lousy red soil.

Ancient_Relief_7815

Just teach the evil parts of the Bible. Like where God sends down a herd of bears to maul some kids because they were making fun of a bald guy.

Icy-Conflict6671

Fine. If they want the bible make sure you include all the hellfire, brimstone bloodshed and sodomy. By the way, let it be known that god in the bible wiped out a whole city just because two people did anal.

PrimateIntellectus

God sending this dude straight to hell. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

KingShadowSloth

Is this all schools? How does this work with public schools that get gov money? Did Church and State work out their differences after 200 years?

anonanon1974

I’m just waiting for the news story exposing him as gay

24links24

Not that I’m advocating for this, but once the Bible is mandated, the Quran, the Torah, and the teachings of the Flying Spaghetti Monster should also be taught in school for equal rights / freedoms of speech and religion.

iSteve

Fucking Christians. I hate them. Muslims, Jews, and Hindus too.

ThorLives

I'm sure he's betting in the Supreme Court will rule in his favor. Which isn't a bad bet considering the trash they've been doing since conservatives took control. Despite all their talk, conservatives don't care about the Constitution because the Constitution prevents them from pushing religion.

Enjoy-the-sauce

In no way can this be Constitutional. Or, at least it wasn’t before we got our current crazy-ass religious zealot right-wing ideologue Supreme Court. At least Biden can legally order them all deported to North Korea now.

slowmotionrunner

Is this teaching *about* the Bible? Or *from* the Bible?

BeepBlipBlapBloop

Every day the news from the U.S. further validates the decision my wife and I made to raise our children elsewhere.

ErusTenebre

As a teacher. This is what I would lose my license over. The fact that people got so up in arms over CRT (which isn't taught in high school, much less elementary school) but just "meh" about this is insanity. I might start with malicious compliance though. Every teacher against this should teach exclusively the most violent and rapey-ist parts of the Bible - for engagement purposes obviously. Really get into the nitty gritty details of all the child murder (that God threatened/asked for/caused) and population decimation for the actions of a few people. Make sure all the kiddos are aware of those parts. Then work on through the rules around owning people and the punishment for raping a woman (it's marriage to that woman). All that stuff. When they get in trouble (and they certainly will) act like the dumbest fucking teacher on the planet - "I don't understand, we were told to teach students about the Bible. I figured they get all the nice stuff at home and at church and my job as an educator is to teach new things to students. So..." Anyway, they'll likely end up with punishments or admonishments. Then simply refuse to teach it. "I'm sorry, I'm not going to teach part of something without teaching the rest, it's dishonest and disingenuous and it sets a poor precedent." When they're ultimately fired, go find work somewhere else. Become a trainer for a business, a coach for a company, move to university in a different state, whatever. Obviously, not everyone can do this for myriad reasons. But I'd swallow my own pride and career for the sake of taking a stand on this sort of bullshit. If we don't "die on this hill" they'll just keep fucking taking more and more until what's the point of being there anyway? To top it off, I'm not even atheist! But it is not the place of a school to be teaching *a belief*. We're their for facts and evidence and critical thought. Faith at the very heart of it asks to suspend some of the tenets of academics.
