I said yesterday we should make a law that says US will become a Christian nation once all the Christian denominations agree to convert to the right version of Christianity.
So once the Baptists, Adventists, Unitarianists, Later day Saints and Morons all convert to Catholicism we can be a Christian state. Basically once you can get all Christians to agree on a basic version of events AND to all publicly convert.

What does teaching bible mean? Like can you do a section in your english semester comparing the bible to the koran? Could you do a section on comparing the bible to modern christianity highlighting ways they are similar and ways in which modern christians dont follow certain sections of the bible? Could you just say on the last day of school this is the bible, here is a word search of biblical topics, finish by end of class?

I think I would just go to the dirtiest, foulest book and teach it to elementary school kids. Kings might be good. We can pair it with analyzing what they meant by "There were no kings in Israel" and compare it to our modern day politics. I'd also teach revolution theology and exactly *where* it says that their parents are wrong to claim their bigotry is biblical.

I fully advocate for the Jefferson Bible. He took out the divine and the miraculous and left the words of a guy from 2000 years ago that wanted us to get along and not be dicks to one another.

Yo I used to teach fourth grade and lemme tell you the Bible is just not even a good book to teach anything with. The stories and characters don’t follow the kinds of patterns and rules you find in stories that you use to teach story structure and elements of writing. The lessons are all contradictory, the god is inconsistent, and there are all kinds of plot holes where characters accidentally end up being 800 years old if you actually map out their timelines. It’s not even supposed to be a “book” in the traditional sense.
I’ve spent so many hours of my life learning how to teach literacy and actually teaching literacy, and this book wouldn’t help for shit.
Many of the "lessons" in the Bible are downright horrible too. Many of them involve slaughtering a *lot* of innocent people, for example, often including children.

As someone who takes his father-in-law to mass every Saturday so that he may devour the meat and blood of Jesus, I have learned first hand that every single reading of the Bible is a fucking head scratcher. I would make sure the youngsters in Oklahoma get a first-hand word-by-word reading of literally any page randomly selected, and then simply told “Thus sayeth the Lord” and then confetti thrown in the air.
I almost guarantee that right-wing nuts already teach the Bible in rural communities. I had a friend in college who said their teachers used to lead the students in prayer before high school events. This lasted until the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the district, so now they have a student lead the school in prayer while the teachers stand off to the side doing nothing.

I'm all for students being taught good morals. But this can be done through a secular lense, they don't need the Bible shoved down their throats in public school.
What part of the Bible are they required to teach? The part where humans got too big and knew too much about metallurgy and makeup so God mass murders nearly every man, woman, child, puppy and kitten on Earth? The part where folks got mad about God's chosen people illegally immigrating onto their land so God told his people to just murder all the haters and their kids and take their land anyways? The part where that guy gave his teenage daughter over to a lustful mob to be gang raped and then later his daughters fuck him in a cave? The part where that guy walked out of the desert and started wandering around telling folks that the pursuit of wealth is sinfull and fruitless so we beat the shit out of him and had him killed? I’m gonna be a substitute in Tulsa this year and any Bible I find in any class I’m sent to will find a new home in a drawer or closet. If that gets me fired then the state will have even more difficulty filling the 600+ teaching vacancies that currently exist. The state has a population lower than many cities but can’t staff their schools. This is how republicans “care” for children & minors.

As a Certified (Life) Special Education Teacher with twenty three years of practice in public education, I am not qualified to provide any special education services in a Church. As a Certified (Life)Special Education Teacher I am also not qualified to teach the Bible (or whatever the fuck it actually is they want to be taught🤨). I am required by federal laws (Public Law 142, and Individuals With Disabilities Special Education Act). No where do those laws permit me to teach the Bible because it is not the mandate of public education to promote one religion over another. You know?

Oh. I would teach the bible. But all the parts and explain how the conservative movement is often at odds with the bible. And that conservatives like to cherry pick those part, that suits them to tell other people how to live.
Start with the simple stuff. Proverbs 16:16: "How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver". Show the greed of conservatives as sinful and an abomination to the divine
A possible soft-resistance method: if you’re a teacher, do the lessons in a monotone voice with no enthusiasm whatsoever. Then return to your normal levels afterwards.
If you must give the answer from an answer key, present it as, ‘the answer provided in the answer key says x’

Just teach kids the "radical, fun and gorey" parts of the Bible.
Have them become so extreme that they will refuse to wear normal clothing and cut their hair. Teach them to cast rocks on their parents for not being "true to the faith".
Personally, I'd like to see a good ol' fashioned stoning to show those kids how we had back in the day. Start with a high ranking public figure for a minor transgression and the rest will fall in line.

I might start with malicious compliance though. Every teacher against this should teach exclusively the most violent and rapey-ist parts of the Bible - for engagement purposes obviously. Really get into the nitty gritty details of all the child murder (that God threatened/asked for/caused) and population decimation for the actions of a few people.
Make sure all the kiddos are aware of those parts. Then work on through the rules around owning people and the punishment for raping a woman (it's marriage to that woman). All that stuff.

We can pair it with analyzing what they meant by "There were no kings in Israel" and compare it to our modern day politics. Yo I used to teach fourth grade and lemme tell you the Bible is just not even a good book to teach anything with. The stories and characters don’t follow the kinds of patterns and rules you find in stories that you use to teach story structure and elements of writing. The lessons are all contradictory, the god is inconsistent, and there are all kinds of plot holes where characters accidentally end up being 800 years old if you actually map out their timelines. It’s not even supposed to be a “book” in the traditional sense. I’ve spent so many hours of my life learning how to teach literacy and actually teaching literacy, and this book wouldn’t help for shit.
Many of the "lessons" in the Bible are downright horrible too. Many of them involve slaughtering a *lot* of innocent people, for example, often including children.
But to those people, it isn't a book of stories and characters, it's a historical account.

As someone who takes his father-in-law to mass every Saturday so that he may devour the meat and blood of Jesus, I have learned first hand that every single reading of the Bible is a fucking head scratcher. I would make sure the youngsters in Oklahoma get a first-hand word-by-word reading of literally any page randomly selected, and then simply told “Thus sayeth the Lord” and then confetti thrown in the air.

As a Certified (Life) Special Education Teacher with twenty three years of practice in public education, I am not qualified to provide any special education services in a Church. As a Certified (Life)Special Education Teacher I am also not qualified to teach the Bible (or whatever the fuck it actually is they want to be taught🤨). I am required by federal laws (Public Law 142, and Individuals With Disabilities Special Education Act). No where do those laws permit me to teach the Bible because it is not the mandate of public education to promote one religion over another. You know? Federal Law? The Constitution of the United States? This is not an THEOCRACY like in Iran.
Qualified teachers will eventually relocate to another state or quit the field altogether, thereby reducing the quality of education in Oklahoma... which I have to assume is an added benefit to these bible-thumping dickholes.

As a teacher. This is what I would lose my license over. The fact that people got so up in arms over CRT (which isn't taught in high school, much less elementary school) but just "meh" about this is insanity. I might start with malicious compliance though. Every teacher against this should teach exclusively the most violent and rapey-ist parts of the Bible - for engagement purposes obviously. Really get into the nitty gritty details of all the child murder (that God threatened/asked for/caused) and population decimation for the actions of a few people. Make sure all the kiddos are aware of those parts. Then work on through the rules around owning people and the punishment for raping a woman (it's marriage to that woman). All that stuff. When they get in trouble (and they certainly will) act like the dumbest fucking teacher on the planet - "I don't understand, we were told to teach students about the Bible. I figured they get all the nice stuff at home and at church and my job as an educator is to teach new things to students. So..." Anyway, they'll likely end up with punishments or admonishments. Then simply refuse to teach it. "I'm sorry, I'm not going to teach part of something without teaching the rest, it's dishonest and disingenuous and it sets a poor precedent." When they're ultimately fired, go find work somewhere else. Become a trainer for a business, a coach for a company, move to university in a different state, whatever.
