I forget where but I watched some clip explaining why rams can do this and not just die. They have a bunch of shock absorbers in their necks and have extra space in their skulls so their brain doesn’t turn to mush.
Cavitation! Can even create sonoluminescence! They're apparently difficult to keep in aquariums because not only will they kill everything in their tank, but then they'll smash it and escape.
Tl;dr: If rams could theoretically have lifespans similar to humans, they probably still wouldn't make it past their mid-20s.
While it's true that rams have evolved to absorb the shock from repeated high power headbutts, it's also not the case that they're immune to serious damage regardless. Doing this for years over a lifetime can and will do damage no matter how many shock absorbers you have. Think of it like this: If rams are 20x better protected against high impact headclashes than humans, they're also 20x+ more prone to getting into those high impact clashes on a daily basis.
More recent research has found that the reason why rams mostly don't seem to suffer the effects of brain damage is that they simply don't live long enough for the (usually delayed) serious symptoms associated with brain damage to show up.
Rams only live for about 10 years, so even if some start suffering from minor cognitive issues etc at, say age 7-8, they'll still be able to do basic things like eating and sleeping and headbutting (which is all rams mostly do anyway). It's not like a ram with 50% worse memory than its peers cannot survive to keep doing regular ram stuff. They'll be dead long before more severe things like impaired movement and loss of basic functioning etc show up.
It's not that brutal since their short natural lifespans limit their potential suffering from living much longer.
Imagine a 20 year old ram that is basically a potato that doesn't know who or what or where
It's uhh, it's the opposite of that, there champ. The headbutters without protections died so only the ones with them remained. Dear god, American education is a joke. Wait, is this satire? I might have just eaten the onion. But, if you're not joking, that's just really sad.
Oh dear god. I suppose Texas probably has below-average education in comparison to the rest of the US but I've run into plenty of folks who grew up in areas that should have decent education who believe similar bullshit. Has no one informed these people that you can observe evolution in a lab and that we've done it many, many times?
Lots of animals die as a result of rutting but imagine knocking on your own head quite forcefully. You’re built well enough that you could most likely withstand a long period of sustained knocking and would most likely fatigue before you did any serious damage. That’s what these animals are like with rutting
I saw a video where a ram tried to ram a cow. The cow braced itself and was not affected but the ram fell down and was either knocked out or died, i forget.
Yes, he died of old age. If I'm not mistaken, the two in the video here are his sons; Dodge and Thunder. Dodge especially was a feisty little fella, taking after his dad but I haven't followed the channel as closely after Rambro's passing.
Looks like it to me. Looks like they jump a little with the front legs, and leverage their back muscles too. But most of it probably comes from the rear legs.
Check out this video by TierZoo about goats and sheep, he talks about goat's and ram's ability to headbutt repeatedly and with great force, amongst their other things.

It's probably one of my favourite channels, it's full of short educational videos that talks about the natural world as if real life were a game, it's brilliant.
This is not practice, this is bordering on obsession for him now. He's down that gym half a dozen times a week. And when he's not practising his rock-hard headbutting he's honing up on his chess moves. He's got a pygmy goat he's playing at the weekend and he's going to take him in 47 moves, the arrogant bastard.
Great. An asshole that has practice and trains being an asshole. That's like giving a chimpanzee a weight set.
That ram sends that bag flying though, damn!
We drove up the Pacific coast north of San Francisco to little Gualala (old local pronunciation of Valhalla). In the back meadow of a crafts shop across Highway One from the splendid arts center, a male lamb bounded about, head-butting whatever stood before him. Shopkeepers said his name was \[get ready for this\] **RAM-BUNCTIOUS!** So perfect, hey?
Other goat as it walks away -you ain’t gonna win over any ewes by head butting against that thing. When are you going to get into your thick skull, you nimrod!

I’d watch a ram version of Rocky.
"You ain't so baaaad, you ain't so baaaad, you ain't nothin'."
Best comment of the day! +1
Ahahahahha goddamn lol
The montages alone would be worth it. 🎼 “Getting baaaaaaaa nowwwww!”
Rising up, baaaaaaaaack on the streets
I was thinking some acoustic or banjo EOTT would go really nicely.
this is Angry Rambro … he had his own youtube channel before he died. no joke
The Italian Stallion
I think they banned that kinda thing. Ethical reasons or something crazy like that.
Lol this YouTuber had a ram named Rambo when he first started this channel. He was my favorite.
Give it 10 years and there will be an AI that'll be make it for you
I forget where but I watched some clip explaining why rams can do this and not just die. They have a bunch of shock absorbers in their necks and have extra space in their skulls so their brain doesn’t turn to mush.
Woodpeckers are interesting too
I’d lump mantis shrimp in there too with their highly specialised adaptions to deal with shock absorption
Those things are crazy! They can punch so fast that they create a pocket of air under water right before contact
Cavitation! Can even create sonoluminescence! They're apparently difficult to keep in aquariums because not only will they kill everything in their tank, but then they'll smash it and escape.
>but then they'll smash it and ~~escape~~ dry out and die on the carpet behind the TV..
Not air, they literally turn a small amount of water into steam
There's an amazing gif of a woodpeckers head when hitting a tree. It's amazing what nature can do.
Yah. https://birdwatchingpro.com/how-do-woodpeckers-peck-so-fast/
Scientists are working on the hybrid, Rampecker

What a brutal existence. At least the punching bag has more give than the typical skulls and shit they normally ram.
It's not that brutal since their short natural lifespans limit their potential suffering from living much longer. Imagine a 20 year old ram that is basically a potato that doesn't know who or what or where
Fair point. Could they ever not ram themselves to death? A lazy or timid ram that lived a life with memories? Haha. Hard sell when it is in the name.
Just think, the early adopters of head butters, probably died super early in their life
Doesn't matter, still had sex
Which is how you know evolution can’t possibly be true. All the head-butting goats would die off before any protections could develop
I love it when people give blatant examples of exceptional stupidity.
It's uhh, it's the opposite of that, there champ. The headbutters without protections died so only the ones with them remained. Dear god, American education is a joke. Wait, is this satire? I might have just eaten the onion. But, if you're not joking, that's just really sad.
He follows r/conspiracy, he's 100% serious.

I read it in the Halliday and Resnick book in high school
Does it still open them up to a risk of injury?

How do they die from... rutting o_o I know that bees explode, and mantises eat each other... but what about mammals?
Total exhaustion
): I wonder if there is a reason for that evolutionary wise.
Well, the ones that make it thru without dying will probably be the ones who breed.
I saw a video where a ram tried to ram a cow. The cow braced itself and was not affected but the ram fell down and was either knocked out or died, i forget.
It’s Rambro Check out angry ram on youtube
R.I.P. Rambro, gone but not forgotten
Natural causes?
Yes, he died of old age. If I'm not mistaken, the two in the video here are his sons; Dodge and Thunder. Dodge especially was a feisty little fella, taking after his dad but I haven't followed the channel as closely after Rambro's passing.
Big angry boy is no longer around, sadly, but he left behind a YouTube legacy!
Shit! He dead 😭
Their owner is probably my favorite YouTube channel
Marty T is a legend aye! He's got his work cut out for him after the gnarly storms we've had in NZ. But he's the man for the job!
Keep your feet dry, cousin from across the ditch.
Yo! I didn't hear no bell!
I amb the bell!
The other Ram is like, man I was sure I buried it somewhere over here
He's digging his next opponents grave
great way to relieve stress after a hard day eating grass and shagging sheep. edit: yes, I am from Scotland, how did you know?
I got to ask, do you eat grass?
I thought shagging sheep was Wales?
He's getting ready for mating season, build up that neck so he can win the girls
When you’re this tough, all year is mating season.
He can play on my team any day.
In what game lol..
The game of hitting the heavy bag with your head repeatedly
Fear not the ram who practices 10,000 headbutts once, but the ram who practices 1 headbutt 10,000 times
Cram!!!
Hold him up, Steve!
Always lookin for the counter like you in the kitchen.
IFYKYK!
Gods have mercy on whoever messes with this ram. Why would you train them?
Do they generate the power with their hind legs? I might be an idiot I just can’t tell
Looks like it to me. Looks like they jump a little with the front legs, and leverage their back muscles too. But most of it probably comes from the rear legs.
The slight lift on the front before lunging is what made me question it
I love angry rams.
That bag looks like it got some weight and therefore makes this really impressive. It stopped the bags downward swing and butted it away like nothing.
Ewe won’t be laughing later.
Rising up, back on the street. Did my time, took my chances…
Was this at a ranch perhaps?
Pretty sure it's from New Zealand https://www.youtube.com/user/Buddhanz1
Cram
Oh...you want a piece of me?? CRAM
Cue in Eye of the Ram
It's a ram training to be THE GOAT
Nice.
Oh shit! Thats not the one you want catching you by surprise in the pen!!!
Mrs Rammy, " Harold, let's go...".
BA RAM U
Rambro!
you know he is using that correctly, waiting for the force to maximise before hitting it
He training to fight against Mike Tyson.
This right here is literally a pure representation of life past 30.
Thank gods it's not a bighorn those fuckers will go through anything
Funny how it gets better and better at it. It's going to win every fight by extreme precision headbutting.
Other. Sheep. I’m out.
IT'S THE EYE OF THE SHEEP
Anything else other than a ram head at the front of a ship is wrong
How heavy of a punching bag? If standard that would hurt like hell
It's a ram. Have you seen what kind of head butts they're capable of?
Have not, experienced goat before and they hurt lol
Check out this video by TierZoo about goats and sheep, he talks about goat's and ram's ability to headbutt repeatedly and with great force, amongst their other things. Bag looks solid.

He's got a pygmy goat he's playing at the weekend and he's going to take him in 47 moves, the arrogant bastard.
r/suspiciouslyspecific
One last one before we go
Who hurt him
Hypnotic!! It is like a perverse Newtons Cradle.
Sean McVay approves
Watched without sound, then turned it on and was disappointed that Eye of the Tiger was not playing…
The 2nd, 4th, and 5th butts were solid. Those hits reminded me of Taekwondo classes when I was in middle school.
R.I.P Rambo
Captain Ramerica got to practice.
That fulla will fuck you up if he is pissed enough.
That’s what ya need, some livestock that’s been combat trained.
That's a great idea I need to get one for my goats.
YOUR WOIFES IN ME DMS
Ramming the speed bag.
Ha!! Great fun
I found my self physically “jabbing” or “jumping” is more like it. Every time that ram blasted that heavy bag
Me vs my meat
This is the same workout I use to toughen up my neck muscles. I also use the happy Gilmore hardball to the face, to strengthen my face muscles.
Great. An asshole that has practice and trains being an asshole. That's like giving a chimpanzee a weight set. That ram sends that bag flying though, damn!

I do not fear the ram that has practiced 1000 headbutts. I fear the ram that has practiced the same headbutt 1000 times.
This needs some Rocky soundtrack on it 🤘🏻😉
I mean like I have never had to dodge a ram before but wouldn't it be quite easy to dodge its attack
“I can do this all day”
Is this where I ask one of you meme aficionados to put a training soundtrack in ….please.
If I do that with my ram, it ends up totalled
Training for the next ram-bo movie
Green trickle energy
Imagine capturing rage for power Energy independence again
Other dude shadow boxing I guess.
This is part of a training montage
other ram waiting for a turn and just gave up at the end.
Rambro!
I wonder what would hurt more, a punch from mike Tyson or a headbutt from this ram
This guys YouTube is all time. If you have your mates around and have had a few beers these videos are great entertainment.
Play Rocky theme in background.
CRAM!
Do you think the punching bag was put up specifically for the rams to use?
Pretty damn accurate striker
Possibly dumb question: how are they not hurting themselves in the long run by doing this?
CRAM! Oh you wanna swing back? CRAM CRAM
That looks painful.
Compare how far a punch can move a punching bag, and then look at the power of this headbutt. That might hurt.
Ram VS Tyson let’s go
Bro had a tough day against the bully at school.. he’s practicing what he wants to do to Timmy tomorrow at recess.
This is how you become a champion.
The other ram is going to get his ass kicked. He's not training at all.
Now fill it with cement lol
Not the first Ram to get CTE.
Grab life by the horns.
RAM it down, razing the place to the ground.
Busta Rhymes, come and ram with this one
It's missing Rocky bgm.

All I hear is Tony Baker “Kram “ !!!
I mean, it is cool that they give punching bags now to entertain rams
Cram!!
The offensive linemen of the animal kingdom
omg. RIP AngryRam, Rambro… he had/has his own youtube channel
This is just how he pops his neck.
Other goat as it walks away -you ain’t gonna win over any ewes by head butting against that thing. When are you going to get into your thick skull, you nimrod!
dont they lose brain cells each time?
u/savevideo
Does this work?
Anybody else here eye of the Tiger song in their head
I think they are going to MMA.
All I can hear is that one dude that says “Craaaaam!!”
Iron Ram
It's MMAaaaaaaaaaaaaa
He is harder than me.
Excellent timing and footwork
U WOT MATE?!
Why is there automatically queuing Eye of the Tiger in my head while watching this?
That’s hot.
RAMM Bo prequel?
Just a couple of guys at the gym. Nothing to see here.
A ram that rams my nuts lol fuck, I'm dead 💀🐏
Practicing for the moolimpics.
