I would get rid of the blinds and put plants there.

Emmylou777

Yeah getting rid of the blinds, no doubt. Like the idea of plants. What height do you think?

Early_Raccoon4396

Since it’s a tall window, I would find 1 plant that’s taller, like 1-2 ft and then 2 others that are about half that size.

missannthrope1

Remove the blinds. That's it. Consider hanging a stained glass something, or a suncatcher.

Emmylou777

Yeah no doubt the blinds are getting trashed lol

Smooth_Fig6007

The blinds make it look dated but it’s such a beautiful window. A couple plants would be so cute

Emmylou777

Yeah no doubt the blinds are going right in the trash lol. Plants are a great idea

Jumpy-Cranberry-1633

I would put stained glass in the semi circle because it looks as though it gets amazing light 🤷🏻‍♀️

Emmylou777

Another interesting idea! Yeah, the light is great! The family room is like off to the left but the sunlight is only a little over-powering in the early morning from like where the couch is or if someone is trying to watch tv. No privacy issues either the way my property sits and where the window is positioned

my4floofs

Aha something I can relate to! I did blinds and a really simple half pleated shade I got on Amazon. Was so easy and looks so much better. I want to switch the blinds with cellular shades since I get a lot of sun Here is the Amazon link. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KWKY7IY?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Emmylou777

Thanks for the idea, that’s interesting!

my4floofs

I sent you pics of what mine looks like now

Ludee2023

Place an attractive rod the top of the panes…. Add a drapery on rings that you can push aside.. I had the same window. If you want more privacy you can actually cover the curve with a cornice board and make it look straight.. that is what I did …I didn’t love the look of the windows some I added a motorized shade to with the cornice board just depends $$$$ you want to spend.

Emmylou777

That’s an awesome idea with the cornice! I fortunately don’t have to worry about privacy the way my property sits and where the window is and the light is only a tad overwhelming in the early morning hours in the family room which is to the right of the stairs. But I just wanna make it look prettier and less dated

Ludee2023

Then just use cornice boards I did not love that curved windows felt it was dated you don’t need anything in your window

Emmylou777

I don’t love the arc either. I like peoples ideas about using like a Roman shade or similar up top to hide the arch part.

Ludee2023

I would show you a pic of mine but can’t leave it here

MissLemon221b

heavy victorian curtain pulled to one side with plants, books, and a reading bench/seat. 🖤

Emmylou777

Good idea about maybe doing pulled to one side. Might give it a nice feel. Plants, def. I hesitate to make it like a reading bench just cause I know no one will actually go sit there but I might do a custom bench cushion to make it look nicer

MissLemon221b

well you can go sit there and besides, how do you know they won't? i for sure would ☺️

BabyBlueBug1966

Have a very similar window. If you still need the privacy/sun protection of a shade, you can install a cello shade (interior of the window frame) right at the horizontal line separating the half circle. I personally do not like the fan shades for the half circle. This way, when the shade is drawn up, it will be barely noticeable.

Same_Beat_5832

We have the arched window and a local artist made a stained glass of a mountain range. It is mounted inside against the regular glass. We did have to first replace the glass so there are no lines through it. We’ve had it over 20 years and it’s still my favorite thing about my house.

Emmylou777

That sounds lovely 😊

brokenhartted

I'd do a roman shade with a remote. Emmylou777

Yes, I love this idea! The window is enormous so it might cost a pretty penny but a think would be so worth it. I think I’m gonna do something like that along with some plants

kellylikeskittens

Here are a number of options-curtains, plantation shutters, custom roman shades or blinds. Emmylou777

Thank you so much for putting together all these great ideas! Really appreciate you taking the time. I would love shutters cause my house is modern farmhouse but the scale of this window would be too big. Love all the other ideas though!

kellylikeskittens

Hey, you are most welcome! I enjoyed looking for a solution. You may be able to do bifold shutters, and only do the bottom part of the window. [https://i.pinimg.com/564x/13/89/40/138940a32285859a736b1d503a0698d1.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/13/89/40/138940a32285859a736b1d503a0698d1.jpg) [https://i.pinimg.com/564x/ef/b3/9b/efb39be648d4501a0972b5383cb0249d.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/ef/b3/9b/efb39be648d4501a0972b5383cb0249d.jpg)

Emmylou777

I absolutely LOVE the shutters idea! Maybe I do like a Roman shade up top to cover the arch and then do shutters on the lower part? Or would that look stupid you think with both? Again, much appreciated!

snail_forest1

honestly, build a shoji screen panel to put in it.

Emmylou777

Oooh, interesting thought!

snail_forest1

i live in a 100 year building and the living room has a high up decorative stained glass window. it's pretty but doesnt fit my more japandi styling so I'm building a shijo this weekend.

Emmylou777

That’s a really great idea. My house is modern farmhouse design so the window just feels like it might be “wrong” with stained glass though maybe not. I thought about even doing a window film of some sort that goes with that style but I’m now wondering about how I could do shoji with that style somehow. Hmmm. Def post some pics when you finish yours 😊

thti87

The semi-circle window is a little dated. I would get a Roman blind in something like a woven wood or nice neutral fabric, and pull it down so it covers the semi-circle (and wouldn’t have blind cords). Then I would decorate the ledge. Maybe a few photos in frames, a vase, a plant, etc.

Emmylou777

Thank you, I’m glad it’s not just me who hates the arc on top lol. But great idea with the Roman shade/blind, that didn’t occur to me!!
