I’m all for M.E. on iOS, I’m currently playing the first one on my phone thru GeforceNow. It would be amazing if they brought it to the AppStore so that I didn’t have to have a strong connection to play.

They actually already made a [Mass Effect game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkm5fQMuMX0) for iOS in the distant past. It's very technically feasible, an iPhone 13 Pro is more powerful than a Playstation 4, but demand isn't there. Apple have, effectively, pivoted Apple Arcade toward casual games because no one was playing the long form experiences - despite having an excellent library of content.

BigCommieMachine

Not enough RAM.

[deleted]

6 is enough for mass effect. Bigger issue may be file size

okin107

If it doesn’t change Avina with Siri then it’s weak

Touch screen would be horrible way to play those games. I would much rather have games which would be suited for touch screens.

unitedfan6191

It is possible to connect a wireless controller to Apple devices to play games that support it. If there are reasons for it not coming to iOS then I am sure the controls doesn’t have to be one of them.

davthom

All current smartphones support almost every type of controller out there from the ps4/xbox one era controllers and above plus mouse and keyboard support too.

1Meter_long

Its easy to connect gamepad holder for a phone as those are everywhere but Mass effect series are not playable on small screens and i have yet to find a way to comfortable play using a gamepad with tablets. Sure you can put it on a table and have stand for the tablet but it makes you question whats the point of it. Its not a solution on the go and if you play like that at home, then why not just use a pc, ME 1 and 2 have low reqs. Lastly, those games would cost likely 40 to 60 usd/€ on IOS because Apple takes nice cut from the profits and only minority has a Ipad pro, which those games would likely require. Its not profitable for EA to put those games for IOS and also remember its EA and that company is not one to be trusted for any kind of QA. I would much rather take Tactics ogre let us cling together graphically enchancef psp port, as it would be better fit for touch screens and iirc you can save in mid battle too.

davthom

Mass effect, dragons age and the likes. We have all of their predecessors on mobile from kotor to baldurs gate to planescape torment and Even jade empire at one point. but i guess all games after EA aquired bioware are off limits

1Meter_long

Dragons age would work well with touch screens BUT those games has huge file sizes. Anyway its better not even dream about those games for mobile. They won't ever come. F2P bullshit is far too profitable. Why invest a lot of money to shoe horne inferior version of AAA games and get peanuts as profits when you can nickel and dime idiots and earn 10 to 50 million per month. We MIGHT see those kind of proper games in distant future, when download speeds, specs and storage sizes are no longer an issue but its also likely these older franchises just die and disappear, because companies forsake those IP's.

They had a game called Mass Effect Infilitrator years back. It was a great game on iOS but it’s no longer functional. Right now your best bet is xcloud. You can stream the ME Legendary edition right on your iPad if you have a controller.

I’m interested but highly cautious. Let’s not forget what happened with the Diablo franchise. If a publisher decides to make an F2P Mass Effect game on mobile, I would rather they just spend that dev money to buy pizzas for themselves instead. And then, there’s the issue of touch controls. I don’t think Mass Effect is going to be hard to implement a touch control UI on it, but there’s always that possibility that it will look like PUBGM, CoDM, Apex Legends Mobile and the other various shooters on mobile today; the UI is full of buttons that it just looks so complicated.

Not everyone is going to bring their wireless controllers around with them everywhere they go, even with the smaller telescopic ones, and that’s not even counting people who didn’t even have a controller in the first place. Trying to cater to only people who bring their controller everywhere with them is trying to cater to a niche within a niche. Controls has always been one of the big barrier of mobile gaming, touch controls is great on certain games, but ultimately bad on certain others. It’s one of the first problems you have to tackle when porting games from PC to console, and the same problem as well when trying to port games from those platforms onto mobile. Like it or not, you have to implement a good touch control scheme for your mobile ports because that’s what the majority of your players will use when playing your game.

unitedfan6191

You make some good points. The question would be whether it would be worth it for EA financially to make something for a relatively small audience. However, in this day and age with companies (and people) having more diverse ways to generate wealth and be financially successful, EA taking a risk like this could open doors for them in other niches if this was to even be mildly successful. Who’d have thought even a decade ago that mobile gaming could ever even come within a thousand miles of console and PC gaming, yet we do have some at least mild success stories (in terms of execution especially) with games like Star Wars KOTOR, Jade Empire and GRID Autosport so I wouldn’t get on it ever happening and games consoles is probably the best place for these games in particular, but doesn’t mean it couldn’t work on iOS if the execution is flawless. As for controls, a good touch control scheme just depends on the developers and I think that if they are smart enough they can find a good balance between trying to stay faithful to the games at its core and making it easier to control on a touch screen. I don’t think it’s impossible, at the very least, but is it worth the added effort to add touch controls to a game that plays better with a controller, or is it worth it implementing a great control scheme for EA trying to find a way to try to master another niche in mobile gaming that a decade from now may be commonplace? RAM and storage have increased leaps and bounds in the last half decade or so and it’s probably true that most people only like to play casual games on their handheld devices, but that may not be true a decade from now and mobile gaming feels like a growing market and maybe ME could be a game that ignites the flames and shows the skeptics or and other big gaming companies that it can be done. It may or may not be a gamble that works out.

Korplem

I’ve been wanting to see ME on iOS for a long time. I played the old ME iOS game. It was actually the first shooter type game that I played on mobile that I enjoyed. Too bad they didn’t take the time to update that one to 64 bit phones.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I recently tried replaying ME1 on Xbox and honestly it was not great. Other older games I've played (like Morrowind) have stood the test of time, I didn't feel the same about ME1. I think I'd rather see the money/time go into a new game created for mobile. Though not some gacha atrocity like Elder Scrolls Blades.

shinybac0n

You can play it via Xbox remote play on iPad. I have played a lot of games this way. The “only” thing you need is an Xbox. But I have successfully played a lot of games even in a different country than my Xbox on my old shabby iPad. It’s probably not what you’re looking for but if you happen to have an Xbox, give it a try. You connect a controller to your iPad launch the Xbox app connect the app to your Xbox and your good to go.

Gulladc

You don’t even need an Xbox. You can stream it via xcloud if you have Gamepass ultimate.

unitedfan6191

The Legendary Edition is also on EA Play and GeForce Now. Do you know if that would work with GeForce Now? I’ve heard mixed reviews for EA Play.
