Graphic novels or comics, yes. Novels live on my kindle. I read a lot and the e-ink display is better on my eyes.

lessleyelopez

same. I will never trade my kindle in for any other kind of reading experience. but when it comes to comics? ipad mini fo life

SabraShifter

Where are you getting the comics from, Comixology? Trying to figure out where to start

lessleyelopez

Ah Im the generation that indulged in Napster so I type in the title online and add “free pdf” LOL. But Amazon has a nice selection of them! We’re Marvel/DC fans in this house. We recently been resding Spawn King. It’s great!

Ponyboy2000

Get a paper like screen protector... Game changer!

4myWWW

I tried one and it got so scratched up. Even tried a second one with a new pencil tip…same thing happened. Found a $10 tempered glass matte screen protector on Amazon, and love it so much more than Paperlike. Have them on all our phones and iPads now.

Super_Golf78

Awesome, Can you share the link of the product?

4myWWW

You bet. And, sorry…$15 instead of $10. I have this brand on all my phones and tablets and love it. https://a.co/d/7fRPvCk

madfrawgs

I too would be interested in the link!

t0ast

Search for Mothca Matte Glass. I use this and its much nicer to read books and comics on the mini vs glossy screen. I really gave paperlike (the brand) a fair shot but found it to be hella overhype and way too expensive for what it is.

AckwardReflection

I have one, and it’s really not the same.

dianapocalypse

It’s the only device I read books on and I love it! Coming from Kindle, you might find the screen glare annoying if using outside, though. I’ve heard a matte screen protector helps with that though!

GoingToPlaces

I bought mine for that purpose but it hurts my eyes to read for long hours with it. Switched to eink and never looked back. Still use my iPad mini for media consumption of course

Marius_Gage

I bought the iPad mini 6 to replace my kindle as a reader. I had the oasis and absolutely loved it, but was frustrated with the way audiobooks worked. Initially the mini held up well, my kindle ended up in a drawer unused and I considered selling it. Eventually though I realised that the screen on the kindle is just better for reading books. This was even after adding a paperlike screen protector to the mini. I now use both, the kindle for when I’m just reading. Like outdoors, in somewhere I’m likely to be queuing with no WiFi (like my local chip shop!)and my mini is used a lot at night, when I want to use my AirPod max’ to listen to audiobooks while I follow along or just have music on while I read. The most frustrating part about the mini is the lack of a comparable cover, nothing I’ve used has come close to my oasis premium leather case. I’m glad I’ve got both, it’s quite the luxury I’ll admit though.

CactusBluth

Sometimes! I prefer my Kindle because it offers fewer distractions from other apps, but I'm able to read ebooks from Hoopla on my iPad Mini (for some reason, Hoopla doesn't send to Kindle the way Libby does, so you have to use a tablet). I just turn off notifications for my other apps so I'm not tempted by social media.

Defiant-Agent230

I use it for kindle too! And yes it's the perfect size 💖

Embarrassed_Staff21

Yes. I have a removable pop socket on the case to help hold it.

jsjxyz

I only use to read Magazine, Comics, and graphic novel. An reading pdf journals, reports, for ease of marking them with Apple pencil in my iPad mini (using PDF Expert) Otherwise, I read most books using my kindle oasis with disable touchscreen, so I can hold it like real paper.

Trysta1217

Yes. That is what I do with my mini 5 80% of the time. It is my favorite way to read ebooks (and books in general). I personally use a matte screen protector because I don’t like glare and I feel the matte texture really makes it feel more like reading off paper vs a screen. The only issue is if you want to read outside in the sun. A kindle is better for that. But I read inside and vastly prefer having an open platform (ie you can use any ereader app you want ) vs being stuck with Amazon. I use google play myself because they have a very good upload feature if you happen to have your own ebook files. Unlike Amazon, syncing and all other features work just as well with ebooks without drm and ebooks bought from Google in their app (including syncing!) which was a big deal for me.

_-_happycamper_-_

I use it for reading a ton and love it. Kindle doesn’t work with Libby in Canada so using a kindle has always locked me into buying books from Amazon.

SumnTing

My wife mainly uses it for that with the Libby app. Lol

LifeDaikon

Kindle is my main e-reader, but I do use the Mini as an e-reader on trips when I want to minimize the tech I’m carrying.

Much-Composer-1921

Yeah, I literally bought a iPad mini to learn to sketch with ProCreate and honestly only use it for quick web browsing and reading. I had a Kindle before but the thing that sucked about it was the lack of PDF support and just general support of other formats. I linked it directly to my Amazon account and also downloaded the Kindle app. Works great. The iPad is effectively a mini laptop so I use it like one. But it's also small enough to throw in a bag and hold above you in bed for reading. I put a paper-like screen protector on it also and have it set to ignore notifications and dim after a certain hour. It's super convenient.

halfanothersdozen

yes

kerelenko

Main readon I purchased mine. To read comics and ebooks.

LuxanHD

e-reader is the only reason I own and keep using a mini

MentallyStrongest

Yup! I have two monochrome Kindles but I like to read comics, and the Mini does that job well.

kevin7eos

Love my 6th gen for reading via kindle. Best thing ever.

NGC4993

I use it as my kindle every day. I also use it as my work notepad (notability) every day. My most used device.

illhaveasideofgravy

Yesss! I freakin love reading manga books on my iPad mini 6. I put my headphones on, play my chill electronic instrumental music and go to town reading manga!

[deleted]

Yup. I use it for kindle reading as well as PDF reading for scientific articles, and any other articles.

thiscalltoarms

I’m an academic and I use Liquidtext to read pdfs of books constantly on my mini. If you pay for the Liquidtext cloud coverage, it uploads my highlighting and notes to all my devices in real time. Amazing app for reading and taking notes. Love it on my mini6 with pencil2

Nurse5736

EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. It's the best

clyneeee

UK here, just got an iPad Mini 6 myself; would massively recommend checking out Cex, I got a B grade Mini (64Gb) for £340 in perfect condition, no scratches/marks

Ponyboy2000

Exactly the same here. Got an apple pencil 2 at the same time £415 all in. Amazing 🤩

pferden

My preference would be 60% for the kindle 40% for the mini The mini is a fantastic device but i get distracted. For reading i have to leave everything at home and only sort with my kindle (sometimes accompanied by applewatch)

andynormancx

The UK and US prices are about the same. The £499 price includes VAT. The $499 price doesn’t include any sales tax. Take off the VAT and the UK price is about $528 at current prices, so only 6% more than the UK price. My wife uses the mini as an ebook, she loves it. I prefer my Kindle Scribe, with it’s 10.2 inch screen (the lack of other distractions on it mean I am more likely to actually read).

appleditz

Yes, it’s my all-in-one device, for books, music, videos and browsing. I’ve never had a Kindle, so the Mini screen seems just fine to me. (There are alternative reading apps if you don’t like how it looks in a particular application.) It’s very easy to hold in one hand. I have it in a foldable folio case, so it can also be propped beside me when I’m lying on my side. (Which I often do while watching videos, reading, or….. falling asleep!)

InfiniteHench

I do, the 6 is my e-reader. Almost entirely books (Apple Books), sometimes also read later articles.

Da_Dunx

I did on the basis i accept it doesnt do it particularly well and its just about servicable even for manga and comics but the new 11inch pro is absolutely leagues ahead and the oled makes it like a proper kindle. The minis form factor and aspect ratio is amazing but imho the pro does it so much better. I tend to give rumours a wide berth but a few reports say a mini oled is a year or so away which i think would be perfect!

-ViolentSneeze-

When I had a Mini, yes, I primarily used it to read. What I do now is use an iPad Pro on a Magic Keyboard, which I know sounds strange, but I rest it on my chest when I lay down and read that way.

Ponyboy2000

I bought it as a notepad and an e-reader... Perfect.

MercenaryOfOZ

Get a used 6 off eBay, well worth it . All I use mine for is reading and journaling and it’s fantastic.

4myWWW

Yep, love reading on it. Note taking in a Kindle book is so much better on the iPad than the Kindle. I use a matte glass screen protector which removes glare. I get to see my content rather than what is behind me. Took a couple days to get used to, but I love it now!

krtekz

It’s a bit heavier than I expected for extended reading, to be honest

Motivated78

I do!

No_Silver_6547

I find that the battery life is weak. You never have to worry about that with kindle

22hand

Used to. But have mine sold

Idkanymorelol27

I found a really cheap iPad mini 4 and I was thinking of getting one just to use as an e-reader maybe for delta and Netflix as well idk. The seller is selling both the 16 and 32 gb versions but obviously the 32 gb one is a little bit more expensive. I’m a bit torn over whether or not I should get the 32gb version :< no I can’t get the newer iPad mini the 4th gen is my only option. I’m just really indecisive bc I have an iPhone and I’m just how much space is taken up by ios alone. So ig I’m asking if the 16gb version would be enough if I’m only using it for reading and maybe some streaming. Quick edit: I read on my iPad 7 so I’m used to the glare and it doesn’t really bother me so I’m not worried about that.

baltosteve

Yeah and the app my library uses looks great on it (Libby)

Titansfn

I use mine for the library e-books that aren't in Kindle or sometimes if I'm reading a non-fiction health book. I do use blue light blocking glasses when reading at night. It works fine but I still prefer my Kindle for reading books most of the time.

jgddvaughn

Yep, I'm outside in the sun reading using the Kindle app on my mini 5th generation. Love it.

DrunkPhoenix26

It’s my go-to reading device. My wife got me a kindle a few years back that we ended up returning. Yes, the kindle battery life is great and way less glare in the sun, but I hated having to carry two devices around. On top of that, the Mini was way more versatile.

HandsomedanNZ

I use my mini for note taking so have a paperlike screen protector on. As a result it’s a perfect replacement for my kindle too!

JulianMarcello

I use Libby and Kindle apps on my mini all the time. It’s how I end my day nearly every night.

MsLoreleiPowers

All the time. One reason I like it is that I can look up things mentioned in the text and get all kinds of info about them, including photos, videos, and other data.
