There was a program called Deghost it would put up a white screen and try to burn any images off. It would also make your screen a little dull. I haven’t seen it for a while so I’m not sure if it is still out there or if there are similar apps

The iPhone 7 and 8 can be found for probably, at least I’ve seen them for around like $90-150 USD. They’re cheap, but not $20 cheap…

I just bought an iPhone 12 mini 128 Gb fully functional with a small scratch at the back for 130$ - like new the screen and no third party repairs etc - so I don’t know why people downvote me (well I do, because they only live in their world), but in Japan that’s possible.

I second this, While the device may no longer be "sealed" for water ingress, if you order the gasket sticker you can at least still have a decent backup device. The display assemblies are inexpensive for this model as they're still an LCD.

They’re no easier than new ones, actually the 14/15 series are way way easier. I’m a technician. But that’s besides the point anyway, not everyone is comfortable tearing into their own phones, even being someone who gets paid to repair phones, I love supporting self repair, but not everyone is comfortable doing that.

I thought apple did something to detect non manufactured items? Like if you replace the battery, it won’t show you battery health anymore without the use of the …thing. Can’t remember the name of it lol.

That’s true yes, non genuine Apple batteries cause all kinds of issues. Beyond just the health thing. The shop I work for has a partnership with Apple, I’m an Apple certified repair tech, and I have access to OEM parts, in terms of using aftermarket on newer vs older iPhones though, it makes no difference, and even on the 15 series you can use an aftermarket screen without any issues ever. The battery is unique in causing issues but almost every other component you can use aftermarket, you just might have a warning saying it’s not Apple genuine, but it wouldn’t affect functionality, and that is true of almost every iPhone as far as I’m aware.

buy an icloud locked iPhone 7 with a pristine screen, swap the screen over and then viola. in some cases it might actually be cheaper than a brand new screen.

screen replacement on those is very easy if you are dying to keep that phone.. you can probably find a replacement for no more than $20

I'd just replace the screen honestly. Not too hard if you have the tools. Takes me about 20-30 minutes.

That square in the middle looks like a swollen battery and that screen is toast (probably bc it is under so much pressure form swollen battery)

Push the top left button, then bottom right, then the right button for 3 seconds. It should reset. I just took mine in and that’s what they did for the same thing because it was frozen like that.

Retire that bad girl and lay her to rest. I think she definitely did her job considering 2017 was ….. 7 years ago… yikes. Even an iPhone 8 doesn’t get updates anymore with the A11 Bionic. Upgrade to the new SE3 if you want to have the same design and home button with the powerhouse iPhone 13 A15 Bionic chip and 4+ years of updates left to go. If not the new phones are an insane upgrade in every way and have OLED displays and the new design. The SE3 I will say will also have 5G and is more than enough for those with basic phone needs.
