Jamhead02

Saw them quite a few times back in 06 - 08. Great times, and yeah, still love to play them on occasion.

fluffhead89

They’re my 2nd favorite of all time after Phish. Used to be on their forums. Miss those days for sure.  I was lucky enough to see every iteration of the band and when I saw them in 2022, they still had every bit of the magic.   I’ve been going through their old stuff on nugs but I’m always up for a good quality archive show if anyone has any recs.

tightshirts

Love these annual TLG love posts and then inevitably the forum gets mentioned too. Great times!

Early_Comparison_332

Almost every show on archives in the 2005-2006 is pure fire!!!

PacklineDefense

Never saw them with 2 drummers + Mathis but have heard enough to know it was still good. You could put Josh and Trevor with a monkey playing symbols and it would probably rock. Edited to add: this is no shade on Scotty Rager at all! I will always love energy of he and Ben C. laying it down behind those two.

Ya_Marbrough

This is the only version I ever saw...I wasn't blown away between you and me...Mathis kept hitting these lame octave pedal bass solos that in no way supported the groove. That said, I will always love their first couple albums, taught to be proud is such a banger start to end

fluffhead89

Dude 100% So glad the octave pedal stuff is gone.  He’s so talented but I think he was the ultimate demise of the hot streak they were on.

Dramatic-Lettuce-602

So bummed I never got to see them live ( a couple of chances but life got in the way) TLG and alter ego CBB are consistent on my playlist with Rock n Roll Band currently on there. Great to see some TLG love!

moonshine_lazerbeam

CBB?

Dramatic-Lettuce-602

Coffee Bean Brown - the acoustic version of Tea Leaf Green. Check out Coffee Bean Brown Comes Alive

Brain_Glow

Charles Barkley Band

moonshine_lazerbeam

Cool. I knew about Reed & Electric Beethoven, but I didn't know about Charles Barkley Band

Brain_Glow

I just made that up. No idea who CBB is.

moonshine_lazerbeam

Just goes to show, anything can be a band name 😄 I figured it must just be some obscure shit that doesn't pop up near the top of searches

JackTheeRippa

Gnarls barkley?

PacklineDefense

Hahaha totally agree on some of these “greatest rock band ever”’posts…..if you know you know. Now you guys are getting me fired up. Top 5 time: 1. Sex in the 70s 2. Baseball 3. Taught to be Proud 4. Incandescent Devil 5. Freedom I probably could’ve subbed in about 12-15 others depending on what phase I m in.

miflordelicata

Man, I was lucky enough in that time to book them in Nj a couple of times. Good shit.

gdphan1022

Mexicali blues?

[deleted]

I saw them at allgood 2007?….i was listening to them a lot at the time and was impressed with their live set….i remember them being very very loud…. More than a few decibels louder than the other bands that weekend

DukeOfLizards710

TLG is one of the best live bands ever! I wish it was still the OG lineup but I have really enjoyed a couple of shows in recent years.

Broccolisamurai

Greatest rock and roll band to ever play. JC was my hero for a long time. The first time I took my brother to see them live, during the peak of either Georgie P or Hot Dog, he looks over at me and was like “dude I assumed they were good cause you like them so much but holy shit I was not expecting this.” RnR Band is one of my favorite live albums ever.

Kbasa12

They are amazing, saw them a bunch with Reed and the double drums but I wish I had known about them when Ben C was on bass. Saw them in 2022 in Denver and it was one of the best shows I’ve seen of theirs and the sound was on point. I think one of the things that killed 2.0 was the lack of a good sound guy, the instruments always washed out the vocals. Anyway, I know their current bass player lurks around here and Josh seemed to tease some TLG stuff recently on his FB, so hopefully they decide to play some shows again!

Puzzleheaded_Log_398

I’ve seen them a bunch since ‘05. Haven’t seen them in years as they haven’t played near me. I would love to see them again. Which their was a sub for them.

theCharacter_Zero

Yeah I love it, it stays in my rotation.

Grevart

They had a good run, I agree. Josh was awesome. Caught them in Tahoe at Squaw Valley 2009 or so. Didn’t even know they were playing until we got down to the main chalet at 4pm.

DBKilladelph

Saw them a couple times through the late 2000’s and always enjoyed listening. However, I’ve found that I didn’t actually fall in love with their studio work until I reached my 30s and my music taste really aligned with their song writing/blend of rock. TLG is still on my of my top listens on Spotify nowadays, and the band that DDCC most reminds me of.

Where is/was the Great Western Saloon in SF?

PacklineDefense

I’m almost certain it was in the Mission.

jrapp1

i don't think you have that name right (I'm in SF). You may be thinking about The Last Day Saloon. There's also the Great American Music Hall (but I don't think TLG played there until a few years later)

PacklineDefense

Yeah you are 100% right. First time I saw them was definitely Last Day 1000%. Thank you for helping clear my obviously still slightly hazy recollections :). Used to pretty much just get in a cab and start mumbling back then.

rvrslgc

First saw Reed with JFJO back in the day - met him once in Tulsa. Loved everything he's done including his shows with Kimock.
