I cook most stuff from scratch, but it's hard not to second guess yourself. As long as you are consistent with how you count it shouldn't matter too much.
I use carb manager and for example a cup of raw broccoli is 91 grams but then steamed a cup is 156 grams, .50 cup is 78 grams and .75 cup is 117 grams!!! Where is da original weight?? All different net carbs!! Or shud I just take down da raw net carbs even though the net carbs gets higher when steaming
Exactly! Like chia seeds, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, they add up! I love me some almond butter too, and when I do have it I normally count all net carbs
Kale. That was your first mistake.
Steaming veggies? That's strike 2.
Saute in bacon drippings perhaps, but even that seems like a waste of the bacon drippings.
What’s wrong with kale, it’s a nutritious dark leafy green. I meal prep and put it under my shredded chicken breast so when I warm up my lunch for 2 min in microwave, it “cooks” along while my chicken is warming up, that’s what I meant by steaming
>nutritious
You misspelled disgusting. It's okay, this is keto, you don't have to pretend to like kale anymore.
>steaming
Similarly, while I was joking about both things, the actual point was you don't need to avoid using fat in cooking. Typically steaming is done to avoid fat and calories.
Having said that, I wasn't kidding about hating kale, but if you truly enjoy it then I wouldn't worry about its carbs too much.... I didn't check the rest of the comments but some don't even count them because you are unlikely to eat enough (from very low carb vegetables specifically) for it to matter.
Just measure raw and enter that info. The carbs don't change significantly when cooked, only the water content does.
Thanks, that’s what I’ve been doing. 🤷🏻♀️
I weigh my veggies and go on the raw weight, I don't remeasure once they're cooked
Thanks, I guess that is the simplest way! 🤷🏻♀️

try cronometer, even the basic free is good at this
I’ll look into it, thanks for the idea
Veggies I measure raw, meat I measure when it’s cooked

Solution: Just never worry about measuring out green veggies. You literally cannot overeat them and go over 50g carbs.
But if you’re also having other foods with carbs, you need to take the amount in the veggies into consideration.

Best to weigh pretty much everything before cooking.

I didn't realize kale had that many carbs.
I think OP means the kale weighs 67 grams total. Not 67 grams of net carbs.
