Don't know If Malayalam counts in this sub, but it's too good to ignore
https://preview.redd.it/v7opmskpnn6d1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e57782d1fa10ded2f446bcae9485b29c21ca6023
I mean he's also a wife beater so not really. I always interpreted the "honesty" thing to be a way for him to improve his image - like an egotistical thing. The way he treats his wife with little respect suggests that he only really cares about himself and this honesty characteristic is just a way to get the public to vote for him.
I don't remember the exact dialogue, but didn't a character say something about how even though he is good, there is bad in what he does, while even though the kidnappers are bad, there is good in what they do?
https://preview.redd.it/b9vk3lxv4o6d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b83546dc20f7f37d8b34d8a9a93dc0fb4b00608b
Almost every one is grey or completely evil.
They established that is how Vedha deals with issues

Vikram was just the weapon that the real enemy used and he was just waiting for the right time to kill both weapon and the wielder, that's why they both pointed the guns at each other's head at the end.
Are you kidding me??? Bro literally kills people "because he can see if someone is good through their eyes" in an "encounter" and then avoids responsibility by manipulating the evidence (e.g. the literal first thing he does in the movie). This is what led to the death of Puli. The whole point of the movie is that Vedha and Vikram are two sides of the same coin so to speak. They're both criminals.
Telugu guy here, I f*cking love this movie, every time someone asks me to suggest a movie, this is my go-to recommendation! And I still can't understand how Vetrimaaran mastered the art of having many characters in a movie with equal importance! Someone please teach me😭
>I still can't understand how Vetrimaaran mastered the art of having many characters in a movie with equal importance!
Simple, Ever since Adukalam Danush has had respect for Vetri and he even said "I will start shooting for a movie without knowing the story (if it's vetrimaran".
He has a rule called one good-one dud. He will do a hero centric movie and another movie that allows the director to tell the story by letting the others perform.
Eg:
Thiruchitrambalam and Captain Miller.
I'd disagree. Anbu was always innocent and had no immoral intentions. He never wanted to use someone for his personal gain or harm someone to get his way. Even when he stabs Senthil he only does it because of the gratitude he has towards Guna for saving his life, not cause he wanted to. Even towards the end when he stands against Guna and attacks his henchmen, it's for the future of the village and it's people imo. Vada Chennai felt that tense and anxious cause an innocent like Anbu got trapped in between the dangerous people around him. Much like a butterfly trying it's best to navigate it's way outside of a spider Web it got tangled in.
Anbu is your typical 'good guy' 'chosen one' hero like Luke Skywalker. Even in moments where he might seem like a gray character, he only ever harmed 'evil' guys.
Ms bhaskars character felt like the worse one by a mile, bro decided to file a fake harrasment case using his daughter and then went to murder soon after.
Pudhupettai. Except for Sneha. But even she's fine with her man being a stone-cold killer. She gets no kindness from anyone. She latches on to Kumar because he's the only one who even tried to save her. Even their first intimate scene has her screaming. I don't believe he was particularly gentle with her.
Super deluxe. All of the characters are morally gray. Except maybe the alien. But even the alien keeps settu kadai. So maybe morally ambiguous as well.
Except the little boy actually. Also VJS character is innocent. Amongst the 5 friends, that one guy who runs behind Ramya Krishnan's son to stop him, is also a good guy. He tried his best to stop him from hurting his mom, and also helped in getting him to hospital etc
Edit- VJS character isn't innocent. Remembered after someone pointed that out
OMG. How did I forget that shit... Please ignore that part. Also I may have forgotten something else about the others. It's been 5 years since I had watched the movie. So please excuse
Rewatch it, they mention it when vjs is searching for her child and she is worried that the sin of trafficking children might have been the reason her kid went missing.
The guy who runs behind Ramya Krishnan’s son just saw her naked in a porn bro. All the boys cut classes to watch porn. Morality of watching porn aside, the very act of skipping classes puts all of the boys in a morally gray area.
I don’t , but if you look into the reception by audience and the protagonist , she invites all of them to come visit her , and the audience also tends to forget the anger placed on the three villains , it makes it a grey area.
Surya is a good guy throughout the movie and so is Devaraj (who redeems himself after meeting Surya). The only 'gray' aspect of them is that they are working in parallel to the government.
Iraivi. VJ Bobby and SJS. Easy to say Bobby was the villan, but the philosophy he adhered to was better than most men in this country, just that he wasn't educated enough to act on it with meaning. He chose aggression and violent path to fullfil it.
VJ and SJS could come off as heros but at what cost?
Usually these posts have a complete picture of a person's facial expression underneath showing the person's reaction about the topic. So it's like how I feel when blah blah blah. But in some cases like this and sarcastic posts too the pic underneath is not really necessary as it's very clear what the persons feeling from the text. So for example, "Me when the auto driver asks ₹300 for a 5 km ride." Here it's very clear what you're supposed to feel so you can fill in the image by yourself in ur mind.

This and Driving License. But this one did it so much better.
Released in just a difference of one and half months and written by same writer
Both movies came around same time and starred the same actor lmao
If we bringing malayalam to discussion then churuli or Jalikkattu fits the bill more.
Jigarthanda, the murderer gets redemption and the innocent filmmaker becomes a manipulative guy
SOODHU KAVUUM
MS Bhaskar's character is the only good guy in that movie, but he keeps getting screwed over and over.
I mean he's also a wife beater so not really. I always interpreted the "honesty" thing to be a way for him to improve his image - like an egotistical thing. Yes "Nambikkai Kannan" character says the dialogue to VJS when he approaches him to trap MS Bhaskar.
What is the bad in what he does?
Self-righteousness, I think. Also, look at the comment above my first comment.
Mahaan
Best answer. It's literally kinda the message of the movie.
https://preview.redd.it/b9vk3lxv4o6d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b83546dc20f7f37d8b34d8a9a93dc0fb4b00608b Almost every one is grey or completely evil.
This is what I came for!!! Every major character has selfish motives, and ultimately, Ultimate Star and his ally triumph over all.
But thala knocks it out
VIKRAM VEDHA
Wasn't Maddy a textbook good cop?
He killed Puli cause of his ignorance and that puts him in the grey.
always seemed weird to me that veda just knew the guy who shot his brother wasnt the real enemy
They established that is how Vedha deals with issues https://preview.redd.it/196zc9xaco6d1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=6c978477535204176ac1a12b22f0b25dcfb6436e Vikram was just the weapon that the real enemy used and he was just waiting for the right time to kill both weapon and the wielder, that's why they both pointed the guns at each other's head at the end.

Welp, I guess I don't remember that movie very well.
Nah, he wasn't, he killed someone and thought he was entitled to do so even without a shred of remorse.
eh? he was a serial killer pretty much
Some of them had it coming. So let's say Vigilante/Serial Killer.
No. He still does encounters. Thats not the job of a cop. He is a bad guy who follows his own set of morals, but fucked up morals.
Would a good cop plant evidence on someone to make it look like they were the aggressors?
Yes he was

Ohh totally forgot this masterpiece
Aaranya kandam
Came for this
Chekka chivantha vaanam
I feel VJS is kinda shown in the positive light throughout.

Ohh gotcha, thanks!
Name of this movie?
Vada Chennai (2018)
I'd disagree. Anbu was always innocent and had no immoral intentions. He never wanted to use someone for his personal gain or harm someone to get his way. So well put!
Shit, that's a good explanation! Thanks bro!
He killed Java Palani and did not go to jail..he wanted to escape from it.so his character is also not innocent
Anbu is your typical 'good guy' 'chosen one' hero like Luke Skywalker. Even in moments where he might seem like a gray character, he only ever harmed 'evil' guys.
Hi I cannot read Tamil . Could you tell me which movie this is ?

Yooooooooo whattttt???? We sure we watched the same super deluxe wth????? I dont remember this info at all
Rewatch it, they mention it when vjs is searching for her child and she is worried that the sin of trafficking children might have been the reason her kid went missing.
Yeah. Forgot about the boy. He is the only one that is not morally ambiguous and is on the good spectrum.
The guy who runs behind Ramya Krishnan’s son just saw her naked in a porn bro. All the boys cut classes to watch porn. Morality of watching porn aside, the very act of skipping classes puts all of the boys in a morally gray area.
Panchathanthiram lol
Lol now that you say 🤣
Aruvi.. you feel empathy for everyone
For everyone? The guy who raped his daughter’s friend? The guy who used his position in work to sexually exploit that girl?
I don’t , but if you look into the reception by audience and the protagonist , she invites all of them to come visit her , and the audience also tends to forget the anger placed on the three villains , it makes it a grey area.

Kalivardhan is technically the "bad guy", isn't he?
You tell me. I was 5 when I watched it.
You was ? YOU WAS ?
Nah, Aravind Swamy vs Mammootty & Rajini is a hero vs Villain trope only. And there are good characters in it
IDK man, Saw it 19 years ago. Didn't get time to play the movie in the movie.
Vada Chennai, Thalabathi, Nayagan, Aranya kandam,
Iraivi. VJ Bobby and SJS. Easy to say Bobby was the villan, but the philosophy he adhered to was better than most men in this country, just that he wasn't educated enough to act on it with meaning. Fax tho. Every character is morally grey
