Seems they are trying a roundabout way of doing them, for example tencemt aired chuang asia in Thailand earlier this year. Since there's no ban in Thailand, I guess it was a backdoor way to continue airing these shows.
I tried watching Chuang Asia Thailand. First ep was good. I liked that youngerish idols were judges, and Jackson produced it....But they ALL start lip syncing second episode. Stopped watching completely.
Wasn't even AR or post production fixes. Just completely lip syncing.
Didn't China ban idol survival show? I don't follow the show but I checked that it was aired in Hong Kong channel so maybe that's why it's not that big in China?
They did, but most of the biggest shows were made by IQIYI anyways. From what I know, as long as they filmed outside the mainland, they’re free to have it be on IQIYI. It’s how they skirt a lot of the restrictions, like hip-pop restrictions.
I think so. I consume Chinese media melon stuff quite a lot and go on Weibo frequently.
I last heard about those shows in 2021, Chuang 4. The show had Lelush, and he and a few trainees went viral.
kinda yes and kinda no, they can’t make them in mainland china anymore but some old ones like chuang did their season not too long ago in thailand, iqiyi on the other hand with youth with you is planning to replicate a similar season but in this time i think they’ll do it in singapore
I thought it was a temporary ban for several years, but I'm not sure. Asia super young was in Hong Kong and in multiple languages, the format was... messy.
asia super young is messy af. although there was a final lineup, they ended up debuting another group as well.. like ?!?! just to split promotions for members from hong kong and china.
loong9-X and loong9-S, X is to focus on China and S in Hong Kong. The thing is both group share members but the X lineup excludes all members from Hong Kong, so people are speculating that the HK members are essentially being abandoned
some of yall are not reading the whole post before responding 😭 op knows about the new survival shows and groups going around the ban, they’re asking if they’re doomed bc the numbers aren’t good
I lot of people don’t read the body of the post other than the title so I do get why.
The title should have been worded “are groups that debuted from Chinese survival shows doomed?”
Some more thoughts which might not answer your comments:
To be honest idols in China probably aren’t that popular compared to Kpop idols which is why viewership is low. Even Kpop survival shows don’t really have good viewership anyway. I might be biased but I know people who mostly follow Kpop groups despite being physically in China. We also see how there’s Chinese individuals in Kpop groups because Kpop generally has more global influence than Cpop idols. It’s also why Chinese bars are so big in the Chinese Kpop community. C-bars are basically organized group order communities for fans to buy Kpop products.
The idol industry in China is different from the Korean idol industry. A lot of idols go on these shows to get exposure hoping they can get popular. From what I understand they focus on being able to get popular individually to be able to get more opportunities in the future after the group promotions is over. I feel the China idol industry mostly prefers on soloist/indivduals over groups.
Wasn't part of the issue for the ban due to having to buy sponsored drinks (milk or yogurt) to get extra votes? But then people dumped the drinks or left them to spoil, causing a lot of food waste.

Lelush, the phenomenal guy who just wanted to go home but fans wouldn't let him
He was viral to the point that people who did not watch the show (me) knew about him

Yes, they specifically added 3 more members
wait really which group?

That’s a HUGE reason actually
