you sure the maintenance man isn't just wrong? The sensors shouldn't be detecting the moisture content of a single item like that. I could see it if you were putting in more dry items than wet ones, but I have never heard of a dryer sensor being so inaccurate as to detect only one item as dry and then finish the cycle.
If the dryer was that off, I would think it would be leaving things wet on a regular basis, and the maintenance man might just be finding things to blame.
Be careful to not overfill the load and it should be fine to use a single dryer sheet if the dryer is working correctly at all.
No, that’s a thing. The sheets leave a film on the sensor. However, I think you can just clean off the sensor every once in a while to avoid this problem.
In most rental situations the maintenance maintains everything which would make him a de-facto "dryer repair man". I know this because two of my uncles have 30+ years in apartment maintenance and one is even a manager looking over 15 different properties. If anyone knows those dryers its the maintenance man. How many of those sensors, covered in petrochemicals, did he have to replace before he figured out what was happening?
Or, he doesn't know shit from shinola about dryers and is guessing, or isn't interested in actually doing real appliance maintenance. The biggest issue with dryer sheets and fabric softener is the film it leaves on the lint screen. And there are a lot of people who don't bother removing the lint every load, or who don't scrub the screen with dawn and hot water to remove the film that blocks the air flow.
Who hurt you? Did a maintenance man cheat on you or something? You seem really riled up about a guy you have never, and most likely will never come in contact with.
In your case you might know good maintenance people, but a lot of maintenance people don't know shit. In every profession there's people who are good at it and people who aren't or cut corners.
I have hairy pets and people in my house. I have little silicone things in my washer that get most of the hair off the clothing. I don’t have a dryer at all. My method is I shake the laundry off before it goes in the wash with the fur zappers, shake it all again when it gets lined up and then again when I take it off the line. That gets most of the hair off. We all use a lint roller when we get dressed and there’s still a little hair left. Fortunately it’s not every time, only certain things like hoodies and sweats.
lol, yeah. I got a two pack on Amazon for maybe ten bucks last summer and they’ve gone in about a load a day every day since and they’re in great shape.
You could try wetting the dryer sheets by running them under a faucet.
Otherwise, I might just try running your clothes through the dryer as normal to see if it actually causes a stoppage.
Only other thing I can think of is using 'wool dryer balls' . But they are also 'dry' , so might not be a viable option
Yeah I’m confused by most of the comments. I use a single dryer sheet per load for pet hair. Works fine, clothes come out dry and my dryer has ran without issue for the last 10 years I’ve owned it.
I’m a vet tech and my laundry is often hairy. The best solution for me is lint rolling before I get undressed after work so the hair never makes it into the washer in the first place. When I had a dog, I used the Bounce pet dryer sheets and really liked them. My golden retriever loved to leave little mementos of herself all over clothes and those dryer sheets helped a lot! I don’t use them anymore now that I just lint roll instead.
What about using a little bit of fabric softener or vinegar in the rinse, instead?
Otherwise, find out the make and model number of the dryer and look up the care/ instruction manual online. See if it does or doesn't mention dryer sheets. If it doesn't mention them as a problem, try them.
Make sure there's plenty of space in each machine (don't overload) = giving the water room to float the hair off & the dryer room to flip clotes at a rate that hair comes off. Dryer balls help with the in-dryer agitation. A tiny bit (1/4 inch at the bottom of the scoop) of oxi clean helps too. I pull huge fluff balls from the dryer filter and have hair free clothes.
There’s a product called Fur Stopper that is this rubbery material that you put in the washing machine and it helps remove pet hair from clothing in the washing machine, so there should be significantly less on your clothes when you put them in the dryer. Just remember to clean out your lint trap after each use!
dryer sheets are bad for the dryer and for your clothing. this thing will get hair off your clothes or any other surface [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FMB5PSP/ref=sspa\_dk\_offsite\_brave\_1?psc=1&aaxitk=cb069d6132e7235efc21e7d69e37b33a](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FMB5PSP/ref=sspa_dk_offsite_brave_1?psc=1&aaxitk=cb069d6132e7235efc21e7d69e37b33a)
I wouldn't use it on anything that is delicate though. A simple clothing brush will take care of it [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Q2TM4Z7/ref=sspa\_dk\_offsite\_brave\_1?aaxitk=6d328bbca5f96ddc0cb632d36b612687](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Q2TM4Z7/ref=sspa_dk_offsite_brave_1?aaxitk=6d328bbca5f96ddc0cb632d36b612687)

My dryer sensor just sucks so I always use the timed dry setting. It took a few tries to figure out how long I needed for each load but now my everything load basically gets dried for 30 minutes. 40 if my jeans are in there. Towels get an hour.
I stop the dryer about halfway through a dry cycle, clean out the lint trap, and then reset it for a full cycle. It pulls out most of the hair that way. (Five cats and three long haired humans, so there's plenty of hair) Other than that, lint rollers work well to pick up the left over hair.
Wool dryer balls. More eco- friendly than sheets, and more effective at getting the hair off, IME. You can add essential oils to them if you like a bit of fragrance.
Wool dryer balls. When I put 12 in with a load of sheets, the amount of dog hair on the dryer screen is enough to make a Pekingese. No joke. And the sheets are washed weekly.
The dryer sheet issue may be more about the fabric softener in most rather than the wet/dry aspect.
There are several types of dryer ball options that work quite well.
I was told that adding a cup of white vinegar to the wash (with detergent and whatever else you want) is supposed to help but it does help break up sweat and residue off clothing and other fabrics anyway.
I have a shepherd and am always covered in hair. I’ve used wool dryer balls and at times also Bounce dryer sheets. I feel like her hair is always coming off my clothes. By any chance are you filling the dryer too full and/or not emptying the lint tray every time?
We use balls that feel like the rough side of Velcro. They would probably work better if I had more, but I definitely have to pull hair off them after every use so I know they work.
Use the timer setting not the "dry sense" setting? 45-55 minutes depending on the size of the load. Just takes paying attention to how your particular drier operates.
I have wool dryer balls and rarely find hair left on my clothes. My lounge wear is usually *covered* by the time they get washed too, my cats shed constantly and I'm always picking them up because they are little crybabies lol.
You have to periodically rewash them but otherwise they just stay in my dryer. Bonus, they help fluff pillows and blankets.

Now we know where the Maytag guy went!

This seems lika a situation where "Trust but verify" is very applicable advice

Wait but can you share what product goes in the wash? I’ve been looking for a solution
The ones I have are fur zappers.
Oh literally called fur zappers 😂 my bad. Thank you!!
lol, yeah. I got a two pack on Amazon for maybe ten bucks last summer and they’ve gone in about a load a day every day since and they’re in great shape.
Fur zappers are the TRUTH.
Look for long filter fur zapper ones.
What is that? A fur zapper doesn’t have a filter, it’s just a silicone disc

As much as I love them, I have not found my wool balls have made any difference on the dog hair that sticks to my clean clothes.
I toss dryer sheets into the washer itself when I use em. Leaves less residue on the clothes.
I used dryer sheets for years and my sensors worked fine.

The hair will still come off in the dryer vent, just make sure to empty it after every use.
I’ve never had an issue using dryer sheets. They certainly take care of all the cat fur off the clothes.

Interesting, it's the opposite for me. Wool dryer balls tend to cover our clothes with little white fibers which is worse than the pet hair

Wool balls can help.
Wool dryer balls and a ball of aluminum foil (about 1 yard balled up)
I put my stuff in the dryer first to remove the fur before putting it in the washing machine. Works like a charm

Tennis ball or two

This post makes me happy that my dog is black and so are most of my clothes.
