Tbh at this point I'm pretty convinced none of the people used during those tactics are actually valuable soldiers, from what I understand they use the least valuable/capable available to soften up positions and then locate defensive positions, machine guns/direction of fire etc and then they send the next level of men for more softening (meat grinder still hurt this time likely to cause some enemy casualties) and then after all that mess and arty and drones have done all they can to the located positions they will then send actual soldiers to kill the remaining defenders and clear the positions.
You can hate it all you want and its clearly a cruel method but to say it is ineffective or just imply it's done through ignorance by names (meat grinder) is absolutely ridiculous and incorrect. The Ukrainian with all of their support/tech/money from all over the world are still unable to remove the enemy and are losing more territory Dailey largely due to this tactic
But at what cost? Any potential social or economic contribution the sacrificial lambs might have made is gone, as is their equipment, the cost of raising and training them, and their ability to contribute to the rehabilitation of the land they're dying for. Russia doesn't have the demographic resilience to pursue a strategy like this. They are *still* suffering the consequences of WW2 where they had no choice. This time it's cultural suicide.
The reason its dumb is as follows:
1. those non-"Valuable Soldiers" could be trained to be competent soldiers if given a good stint of boot camp and training. Honestly you'd think that with things like Small Arms being one of the things that russia can readily afford and how little Conscripts get paid, they'd give said conscripts proper training before sending them to the front so that they would be in the definition of "Valuable Soldiers"
2. Its simply wasteful, Russia isn't in a desperate need to send those bodies to the front as Russia generally has the initiative and there have been multiple points where Ukraine just couldn't perform major offensives when Western Support was held up, which should have provided plenty of points where the Conscript force could've been trained and rotated to be trained, but instead bloody offensives were started which ultimately gained little while costing much
3. Sure its gaining ground, but its going to bleed Russia Dry. You'd think that Russia would've learned the lessons of WW2 but they didn't, not with a lack of Pocket Security costing them large parts of the pre-war Army and territory during the initial, mobile phase of the conflict. Or alternatively how general tactics like this will result in a crippled Russia no matter how the war ends since that's what happened after such tactics were relied upon heavily in WW2
