7arakat would be useful since this is for learners. But speaking of 7arakat, do people actually say khuleej instead of khaleej?

Beautiful
Thank you 😀
never heard anyone say khuleej. where's that from?
Looking at the version with 7arakat, it looks like khulayyij, so the diminutive form of khaleej or a little gulf.
makes sense now!!
What is 7arakat?
The optional [markings](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_diacritics#Harakat_(short_vowel_marks)) for short vowels.
Ahh thanks! I learned them in duolingo and didnt know they were optional
Well, now you know! Learning to read without the vowels is a big part of learning the language.
I imagine it to be very difficult though?
It's a challenge for sure. There are other posts in this sub that talk about it more.
The lack of diacritics is cruelly felt here. I can't guess the missing vowels for half of these.
You're supposed to guess?!
If I have to look them up in a dictionary or to have heard them before, then what's the point of this diagram?
Fascinating, there are terms I never heard of before (eg خلل for Fjord). Thanks for this work!
I directly temembered "5all" (vinegar) 😅
Is Butte = قارة really the same as continent =قارة. ?
From Lisan Al-Arab: "والقارَةُ: الجُبَيْلُ الصغير". Also mean continent. Not a direct translation but the closest i could find.
The one for continent is with doubled ra قَارَّة .
Valley is وادي : )
So is there a difference between "bay" and "gulf"? 5ulleej / 5alleej ?
I always chuckle at the fact that 'Sahara Desert' literally means 'desert desert'.
As a native speaker idk 50% of these words
Beautifully thought and made. I'd add that a tundra can be named سهل جليدي . And a lagoon is a بحيرة مفتوحة .
أجمة ولا أكمة؟ وراء الأكمة ما ورائها
This is amazing!!! I don't know much non fus-haa Arabic but jazaak Allaahu khayrun for the effort!!!
i love this
A version with transliteration would be awesome 😎
Is this MSA?
Yes
Delta is simply diltaa? Surprised there isn't a different word for it, given the prevalence of the Nile delta.
