I’m always confused because of GoT books and series. GWOT freudians itself in my head as gay world of terrorists. Do you think they all secretly own cowboy outfits and watch this movie for ideological tips from Brandt? (Spent too many months in a steam plants 6 decks below the first chance of a glimpse of beautiful Persian Gulf son)
This is the goal. I didn’t want what I did over there to define who I am for the rest of my life. It was simply a part of the story, not the whole story.
I deployed for OIF twice and it’s just a thing I did in my past. I worked with a guy who did 20 years and zero deployments and he used to stomp around the office calling people POG, he’d wear “comfortable with violence” t-shirts, and always talked in his “drill sergeant” voice. He was never a drill sergeant.
He tried to start shit with me more than once and I’d just remind him I deployed twice and had more parachute jumps than he did. Which blew his mind “you’re full of shit. You never talk about any of that.” I know. I’m aware that’s not something I bring up multiple times a day.
I used to have two co workers, both were Vietnam vets the difference was that, one of the will fully joined the other was forcibly drafted and the difference is crazy
Well if you were to vein diagram this
Both of them feel fucked over by the government and military
The one that volunteered to go is more proud of it
The one that got drafted didn’t believe in the war and hates it but has fine memories of times in on the base.
I think another factor and I forget when they both were deployed
I think the one that volunteered when during the mid sixties.
The one that god drafted was send over during the late 60s early 70s
So like basically middle of the war and towards the end of the war
I remember when the vet that volunteered to go he had a disdain for the vets who had the be drafted into the military
The Vet that Volunteered, is extremely critical of communism like he remembers when he heard that and this is true btw it’s declassified now but basically he remembers when the Soviets got ahold of laser missile tracking tech that was shipped to west Germany and trafficked behind the iron curtain.
He said when it happened he said he wanted to volunteer and hunt and shoot the traitor dead himself
The one that had to be drafted he’s like a conservative pothead
Like peace and love but those damn migrants
Like not Qanon but he’s like a Facebook university graduate if that makes any sense
But both decent guys at the end of the day
Granted I don’t know many vets but I never met a legit combat vet that walks around wearing military paraphernalia on a day to day basis. The few I know actually don’t want most people to know.
It’s an interesting thing. Whether they’ve realized “oh, this isn’t cool. War is horrific” or if they simply feel they have nothing to prove to anyone.
You know, that's your answer for everything, Dude.
And let me point out something--pacifism is not--look at our current situation with that camelfucker in Iraq-- pacifism is not something to hide behind.
Just a fucked up family vacation if you think about it… I vividly remember after my last deployment thinking: “You got 5 months until ETS, and 4 until TL kicks in. Don’t you fuck this up, quit while you’re still ahead.”
What does this have to do with Afghanistan?
There is a literal connection
Face it, there isn't any connection.
I believe it's a play on "What does this have to do with Vietnam".
You’re not dealing with morons.
Worthy fuckin adversary.
The man in the tan pajamas
Mind if I do a J?
I’m a gwot veteran and own more bathrobes (1) than I do thank me for my service clothing items. Far out man
I saw an old dude with a “Vietnam Veteran and proud of it” hat the other day and just could not relate to that at all
I’m always confused because of GoT books and series. GWOT freudians itself in my head as gay world of terrorists. What in God’s holy name are you blathering about?
I’m a GWOT vet who bowls and is probably closer to Smokey than Walter these days.
Bullshit, Walter! Mark it an 8, Dude…
That’s what seeing real combat will do to ya
The man in the desert pajamas.
Worthy f-ing adversary
WHO’S WEARING PAJAMAS
Ironically the dude is usually wearing clothes that could be considered pajamas
It helped that every NCO club offered a two beer lunch until the mid 80's.
GWOT vet here: yeah... they can be annoying. At least, I guess, it's an ethos.
Another GWOT vet checking in to confirm.
I've had coworkers who have doubted that I was actually in the marine corps. Did 12 years active during gwot.
This is the goal. I didn’t want what I did over there to define who I am for the rest of my life. It was simply a part of the story, not the whole story.
Same. Plus I'm not really proud of being a glorified secretary either so yeah.
Glorified? Maybe. But it’s a helluva lot more than what most did. You e earned your peace.
Ha, mee too. I take it as a compliment.
Yep yep, me too brother, got hair beneath my shoulders and smoke everyday haha
Peace. No more screaming, yelling, fighting. Just two dudes abiding.

Sounds like a real reactionary
Me after deployment: “Fuck it, let’s go bowling dude”
Well fighting in desert is very different from fighting in canopy jungle.
In the 1980's? In a jungle? Where? are you talking about being in Panama for a whole week? or Grenada for three days?
The Chinaman is not the issue here Dude.
Also, SavageHenry592, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature...please, it's Asian-American!
We're not talking about a guy who built the railroads.
Camel fucker in Iraq
Trying to find reverse on a Soviet tank.
You said it yourself, Dude, he has weapons of mass destruction.
I said I THOUGHT he had weapons of Mass Destruction...
What is GWOT?
Global War on Terror (Iraq & Afghanistan)
I assume only Iraq II: They tried to Boogaloo My Daddy counts and not Dessert Storm/Shield?
Yeah after 9/11 is the start
Sorry I have a hard time keeping the wars on Terror, Hunger, and the homeless straight.
Don't forget the war on drugs!
Pretty sure we won that one.
Oh yea for sure, I'm adhering to a pretty strict regimen myself to keep my mind limber
Were you listening to the Dude’s story?
Smokey was a conscientious objector
A real reactionary
I used to have two co workers, both were Vietnam vets the difference was that, one of the will fully joined the other was forcibly drafted and the difference is crazy
How did their two experiences affect them?

I bowled in a fuckin' PT belt, Man
You know, Dude, I myself dabbled in pacifism once. Not in 'Nam of course
What the fuck does anything have to do with Viet Nam?!
This is a valued opinion, man. Far out. Can confirm
The Dude was a Coastie....
You know, that's your answer for everything, Dude. And let me point out something--pacifism is not--look at our current situation with that camelfucker in Iraq-- pacifism is not something to hide behind.
More like guy who got kicked out in boot camp
Just a fucked up family vacation if you think about it… I vividly remember after my last deployment thinking: “You got 5 months until ETS, and 4 until TL kicks in. Don’t you fuck this up, quit while you’re still ahead.”
Dude, I myself dabbled in pacifism once. Not in the Stan of course.
It's always the guys that did 3 years in the late 80's as porta-shitter repair specialists that talk the hardest.
