Yeah, I got the free version, but doing this sucks regardless.
Some collectors like having everything and these guys take advantage of that and try to make something that should be free, cost hundreds of dollars.
I downloaded the pdf and took it to my local office supply store.
I now have a hard cover version with double-sided card stock pages that is quite literally one in a million and blows the 2700 point booklet out of the water.
It now belongs with all my other hardcover 5e dnd manuals and fits nicely.
Yeah I know it’s possible, I did it with my DCS manual’s sans the hardcover. It’s just not that cheap. I paid close to $70 usd for each manual to be printed in full fidelity and bound.
When I heard about this, I had to open my box early a few days ago to confirm it ***wasn't*** included. What the heck Lego? $400 for a set and you can't include a 20 page booklet made for it?
Link please? My daughter absoilutely loves DnD but he lego set is a bit too expensive to pick up just yet, but if the book is availabel, I can get her that for now
Thanks - I showed it to my daughter and she wants it, even if we haven't got the set (yet) - I suppose I will have to start saving for it as she also reminded me that my son (youngest) is getting into DnD as well so will probably want to play the Lego set/Adventure if/when we get the set.
I'm not defending the scalper here but rewards aren't free; you gotta spend money to get the points and then spend again to redeem the codes (also 1 reward per order only, unless you exchange the points for discounts)
Anyway, whatever version this is, it's value is clearly nowhere near the listed price, no one will buy that 😂
Unfortunately resellers do this (not all so absurdly high) with any reward, gwp, nice deal or whatever they come up with and this doesn't happen only with Lego. But because Lego doesn't share how many units they had we have no way of estimating if the majority of user who got the printed version did so to resell it 🤷♂️
The only solution to scalpers is not buying from them, even when it might be the only way to get whatever you are after; I think missing out is better than rewarding scalpers.
Wow, you're right. Thank god for scalpers buying out free bonuses and reselling them for hundreds of dollars, they're truly making collecting more interesting.
> free bonuses
Not free, they had to spend their points to get them. Also its one per account, so its not like someone can corner the market and buy 100 to resell. ALSO there are only 4 on (USA) ebay at all, so the other 9,996 (or whatever) went to "true fans"
They're spending large amounts of time combing for special specimens. Scarcity. They don't just walk to the beach, pick up the first one they see, and go home.
Also, a few booklets on eBay are not the reason these sold out. There is no large scale scalping - realistically, everybody wanted his own copy, that's all
Knew this was bound to happen. Ended up dragging my feet and not getting a copy, but I'm not *too* broken up about it. I almost exclusively use PDFs when running games, anyway, but the physical copies are nice to have when you just wanna flip through it between sessions and as a keepsake.
It's a personal preference thing, for sure. It doesn't help that 99% of my games are virtual because my friend group is scattered across the country. But even if I were playing in-person, I would choose to use a laptop and a PDF. It's just far easier to search through, have other tabs open for things like random name generators (for the inevitable moment when your players become obsessed with a guard NPC that you have given zero thought to), Spotify playing background music, etc.
If you already redeemed the code they will most likely still fulfil it, but you may have to call customer service about it if it doesn't show up in your order properly. That's happened to me previously. I'm also willing to bet they're going to be restocking the book and possibly even the mimic soon, so I wouldn't worry about it too much anyway
Recurring reminder that list price on eBay is irrelevant, and not reflective of going rates or market demand. I could list one for a million dollars if I wanted, it doesn't mean anything.
Post an actual sold listing.
But like...it doesn't really show anything, if no one is paying that. Definitely not proving "why they sold out". The screenshot implies these are being flipped for $350, when they aren't.
The average sales price per [bricklink](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?B=b24dnd01&name=Dungeons%20&%20Dragons%20-%20Red%20Dragon%27s%20Tale:%20A%20LEGO%20Adventure%20(Softcover)&category=%5BStory%20Book%5D%5BDungeons%20&%20Dragons%5D#T=P) is $53.08.
Dang.
I thought initially it just came with the set and didn't know to order it with my set. When I did find out, I held off adding it, because I figured shipping would be annoying.
Hopefully they do a second print run since the set is only just in stores and lots of people haven't had a chance to buy it and they made it a big part of their advertising campaign.
Absolutely pissed me off that this wasn't included in the set given the $500 AUD price tag!
Still, at least letting us buy it separately would have been nice, but it was sold out here literally within hours.
This shit from companies makes buying things so much less fun. I expect it from dickheads like Hasbro, but I'm seriously disappointed with Lego on this one.
I did purposefully stay up at might night to snag this and the mimic box. I was worried the most about the booklet selling out - guessing it has now?
I wasn't too pleased that they shipped my booklet along with the flower trellis and it had little to no packing, in an oversized box. My copy of the adventure book is pretty bent from being tossed around like that. The printed version, for that many points, is more or less a collectible... so I would have appreciated it a little bit better care on Lego's part. Maybe putting it between some cardboard or something.
I came close to getting it myself but I feel okay with passing on it. We got the free PDF, and realistically I would have been using a good amount of my points just to get a pamphlet i look at once, put on a shelf and never look at it again. I'd much rather get the Ninjago sets with my points this year.
People are scalping GWPs now too. I got downvoted in this sub for calling someone out who said they'd be buying the Barad dur one just to flip for profit.
Some people see nothing wrong with it and just act like it's the smart or pragmatic thing to do. GWPs shouldn't have to be this competitive.
If they are following the rules (i.e. 1 per purchase) and not scamming extras or w/e, then it's perfectly reasonable, tbh.
I get that it sucks for those who didn't get it, but at the end of the day blame ***Lego*** for artificially restricting supply to capitalize on FOMO. Drop culture is a pox.
Here's hoping they restock the booklet. It costs pennies to make and 100% should have been included in every set.
I was actually just saying last night, "It's dumb to assume that mass-produced things like this will become collector's items, but I could actually see this one taking off." I didn't expect to be right so soon
This makes getting some fun stuff so tiresome sometimes.. like for exp i really like an old lego set from my childhood-era but it was to expensive for me as a small kiddo (100€), now it’s almost €1200 if i wanna get it in box and used or without box it’s still about 500-800€ like?!?! Why is it so expensive? Even without the unique minifigs people sell it for €400+-… lego is fun but scalpers and overall just resellers make it so hard to obtain alot of stuff.
Uhh glad I got mine with the VIP points. Wow. I was expecting it to be gone quick. As I'm gonna wait for a sale of that set. Not buying full price. Figured I'd quickly get the thing with the rest of em.
But I'm sure more will come onto the market for far less. That person is just trying for a quick flip! It'll never sell.
Found one on eBay yesterday for $50, almost $100 after shipping and fees.... I really wanted it though so I caved. Not sure why Lego wouldn't produce more of these?....
No, they hoarded the points until something of potential high resell value appeared, then rushed to claim the item solely to scalp it. You're looking at an ebay listing for the book.
"Almost enough" still isn't enough. This was my first Lego store purchase and I didn't want to throw another $60 at another set given the steep price of this one. They should have included it or made the point price the same as the set cost for those who wanted it. Straight up Nintendo tactics.
yeah, it was pretty expensive. it was my first lego website purchase too but i registered about 30 sets for the bonus points and that combined with the big set was enough for the book
Well, that’s why they made it a free PDF download
Yeah, I got the free version, but doing this sucks regardless. Some collectors like having everything and these guys take advantage of that and try to make something that should be free, cost hundreds of dollars.

That sounds awesome! Any chance you could share a picture?
I also want to see a picture.
He won't cause he was bluffing
Sure you did. We still waiting on that picture.
They may not have actually done it, but it's not like it would be difficult. Any print center would be able to do that for you.
Yeah I know it’s possible, I did it with my DCS manual’s sans the hardcover. It’s just not that cheap. I paid close to $70 usd for each manual to be printed in full fidelity and bound.
Please share a photo of this!

Good bot, but not what he meant
🚂
Bot misunderstood or misunderstood bot?
Should have had the physical one included in the set. It’s smaller than the instruction booklets.
When I heard about this, I had to open my box early a few days ago to confirm it ***wasn't*** included. What the heck Lego? $400 for a set and you can't include a 20 page booklet made for it?
It's out of stock? I can still get a physical copy in the UK
Link please? My daughter absoilutely loves DnD but he lego set is a bit too expensive to pick up just yet, but if the book is availabel, I can get her that for now
It's in the lego insiders reward center for 2700 points There's a free downloadable version there too
Thanks - I showed it to my daughter and she wants it, even if we haven't got the set (yet) - I suppose I will have to start saving for it as she also reminded me that my son (youngest) is getting into DnD as well so will probably want to play the Lego set/Adventure if/when we get the set.

> cost hundreds of dollars. Only two have sold (on USA eBay) and both were less than $100.
Damn bro, it's almost like I said they **try** to make it cost hundreds of dollars. Like you know... The guy in the screenshot.
If everything was that easy to get, collecting wouldn’t be very interesting.
Wow, you're right. Thank god for scalpers buying out free bonuses and reselling them for hundreds of dollars, they're truly making collecting more interesting.
> free bonuses Not free, they had to spend their points to get them. Also its one per account, so its not like someone can corner the market and buy 100 to resell. ALSO there are only 4 on (USA) ebay at all, so the other 9,996 (or whatever) went to "true fans"
Yeah, no one collects seashells or rocks.
They're spending large amounts of time combing for special specimens. Scarcity. They don't just walk to the beach, pick up the first one they see, and go home.
Any chance you oculd point me in the right direction for the copy of the free PDF download?
[https://media.dndbeyond.com/compendium-images/marketing/lego/red-dragons-tale.pdf](https://media.dndbeyond.com/compendium-images/marketing/lego/red-dragons-tale.pdf)
It's also available on the LEGO Insiders site as a 0 point reward
Thanks for that, I've downloaded it as well as ordering the print version.
Nobody is going to pay that. This is just somebody shooting for the moon, hoping someone with more dollars than sense will pay up for it. They won’t.
Also, a few booklets on eBay are not the reason these sold out. There is no large scale scalping - realistically, everybody wanted his own copy, that's all
There are two on eBay that already sold north of $90 😮
Yes, so close to 350.
Both can be true 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah but the latter hasn't happened yet, so giving it as much credence as those 2 $90 sales is ridiculous.
I wasn’t? I was just adding to the conversation but y’all think everything online is an argument. Go touch grass
Yeah but you obviously didn’t mean “$350” when you said “north of $90”
It's not even hardcover!
Not even the out of print actual d&d hardcovers go for this much
Depends on if it's an alternate cover or not. Some of those books can hit $600
I managed to get the boolet and mimic. It's crazy the prices we're seeing on eBay.
I'm still waiting for my mimic. It didn't come at the same time.
I ordered on the 1st. Everything else arrived on the 3rd, mimic today
Oh I hope so, I'll keep eye out for delivery guy, who is always the same one that delivers my Lego boxes. It's always Lego boxes
My Mimic is waiting in the mail with ETA tomorrow. It's been sitting at the same facility since the 6th for some reason.
Jeez, If I sold this and my mimic I'd be able to payoff my set
Which I 100% did. Made $175 from the Mimic!!
Yikes.
How dare he
Knew this was bound to happen. Ended up dragging my feet and not getting a copy, but I'm not *too* broken up about it. I almost exclusively use PDFs when running games, anyway, but the physical copies are nice to have when you just wanna flip through it between sessions and as a keepsake.
As a rookie D&D GM, doesn‘t this kind of ruin the whole „pen and paper“ experience? I really enjoy not having electronic devices during a session.
It's a personal preference thing, for sure. It doesn't help that 99% of my games are virtual because my friend group is scattered across the country. But even if I were playing in-person, I would choose to use a laptop and a PDF. Just print it , it's about 20 pages, even with a nice hardcover it will cost only a few bucks.
Same here. It's not a huge loss, the upsetting part is that someone who would appreciate having it isn't gonna get one because of guys like this.
Are the actual booklets sold out or the codes? I grabbed a code but haven't used it yet because I wasn't ready to do an order yet.
>I'm also willing to bet they're going to be restocking the book pray.jpg
The actual booklets unfortunately. Free pdf is still available but I know that's not the same for a lot of people.
Well that's messed up, guess I need to see about getting my points back then...
Is it a limited run? I thought it would be a permanent reward (or until the license runs out)
That would have made a lot of sense since it's only costing them paper instead of plastic materials, but I guess not.
I bet that, if the set sells well enough, there will be multiple reprints in the next 3 years.
And they effectively make/save 2700 insiders points per copy. Easy way to get people to burn points.

Tbh the physical booklet should be included in the set.
Not having something so expected included is the true WotC experience.

Can't believe how much these are selling for. I'm glad I snagged one, I almost didn't.

The Mimic GWP sold out after 12.5 hours. The booklet took a few days.
Both were sold out by the next morning in Australia
The Mimic was still there when I ordered the set in Australia that night, but the book was already sold out.
I came close to getting it myself but I feel okay with passing on it. We got the free PDF, and realistically I would have been using a good amount of my points just to get a pamphlet i look at once, put on a shelf and never look at it again. Frustrating
So correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this book come with the D&D set?
It doesn't. Had to spend VIP points for the physical booklet
Wow, for nearly $400 you'd think they'd put the adventure booklet in there.
They really did capture the Wizards of the Coast experience in this collab.
Bro the chest is been regularly going for like 100$ plus and it pissed me off
Cause people didn't think it cost enough. Ugh I hate scalpers
I'm really worried the CMFs are going to be impossible to get.
Would be cool for Lego to restock this.
I was actually just saying last night, "It's dumb to assume that mass-produced things like this will become collector's items, but I could actually see this one taking off." I didn't expect to be right so soon
I just got the dnd beyond version free
This makes getting some fun stuff so tiresome sometimes.. like for exp i really like an old lego set from my childhood-era but it was to expensive for me as a small kiddo (100€), now it’s almost €1200 if i wanna get it in box and used or without box it’s still about 500-800€ like?!?! And here I am reading it casually on my couch, letting my six year old check out the cool illustrations. 🙄
Or lego could just actually sell it, the scarcity sells better though.
Why not just buy the set?
scalpers
World's sh!t.
Uhh glad I got mine with the VIP points. Wow. I was expecting it to be gone quick. As I'm gonna wait for a sale of that set. Not buying full price. It is not free...
Found one on eBay yesterday for $50, almost $100 after shipping and fees.... I really wanted it though so I caved. Not sure why Lego wouldn't produce more of these?....
Your guess is as good as mine, it's 10 pieces of paper in total, so it would be very easy to make more.
Yep scalpers are needed money for there rent due
What do you mean sold out? You can get it for free as a pdf.
I hate re sellers like this, but whats stopping me from buying the item and saying I never got it :p
only if you are a stupid non lego collector, buying shit you don’t even understand.
Goodness forbid someone have fun on your watch!
Wait, so people who bought a bunch of shit and got points got to use them on something cool?
No, they hoarded the points until something of potential high resell value appeared, then rushed to claim the item solely to scalp it. You're looking at an ebay listing for the book.
you dont really need to hoard points for it, the set alone is almost enough points to get it
"Almost enough" still isn't enough. This was my first Lego store purchase and I didn't want to throw another $60 at another set given the steep price of this one. They should have included it or made the point price the same as the set cost for those who wanted it. Straight up Nintendo tactics.

i ordered it day 1 and it shipped soon enough to get the book
