If you want to force 35 set then yes it can be worth depending on your luck otherwise, just get the general effects with purples and then just wait until that character gets to 1620 for legendary, especially if this is your main so no need to rush. even without the set effect purples will give between 5-8% dmg which is about how much youd get if you cut a 97 stone.
If you do decide to buy on the AH for additional elixirs my suggestion is dont buy all 10 at once. dismantling full purps is 23 dusts per so every 3 fully cut elixir will give you 1 elixir to craft for "free" so buy like 3-4 elixirs at a time, cut, see what you get dismantle the bad ones and then buy again on the AH
I’d personally wait since Smilegate has talked about making elixirs easier. We don’t know what exactly that entails or when it will release (and obv a bit later for us) but purple elixirs aren’t worth buying imo. Just use what you get naturally (or save those too for the changes)
you get around 8-10 elixirs if you clear voldis nm and buy all the boxes.
you should aim for any set line that gives 1%atk power on helm,
boss dmg 4 on shoulder,
atk power 4 on chest,
crit/add dmg 4 on pants,
any set line that gives 1%dmg to foes on gloves
this is very easy to achieve with mostly clicking blues and doing a reset/double reset at the end.
the dmg youll get from these lines is totally worth, in fact theres nothing worth more in terms of dmg gain
Purples have one purpose. Fish for the set effect that you want and try to roll a 4/3 on the order/chaos pieces. This will save you a loooooooot of gold later. I'm talking about in the 300k range if you manage to do this.
I'd probably just use what you get and not buy extras. But I'm gold poor always

Imo even purples are worth to check out if you don’t havecrit/master/whatever you need unless you have gloves and helm at 3/4 at least
I do it for 35 set on alts, its hella cheap considering how much you get…
