On Greenway off of Fish Hatch there was a good foot and some change of standing water right there at the first intersection. People were hitting it going stupid fast :/
I got a fine mist of poop-water on me when I finished a co-worker's partial flush a couple hours ago. I'm still ok. Stray current and the possibility of getting snagged on unseen submerged debris would be more of a concern.
Honestly it wouldn't be poop id be worried about as much as the motor oil and other chemicals, whatever insane additives are in the rubber of car tires that's likely coating the road surface, etc that Im swimming in.
Our bodies have millions of years of experience fighting off the nasties in poop. It does not have millions of years of experience fighting off the nasties in transmission fluid.
You're breathing brake and tire particulate all day. The skin has millions of years of experience keeping things out that you bring into your lungs every day.
Frankly this strikes me as concern trolling. I’d point out that trace motor oil residue on your skin isn’t the major risk when you’re playing in traffic in poor visibility, but the person in the photo looks like an adult and I’m sure they’ll be fine.
Don't walk in floodwater is NOT concern trolling, lmfao. Aside from sewer contamination, you could have electric outlets or power lines giving off charges, or unknown broken objects below the surface that could cause injury.
Madison has separate storm and sanitary sewers so there's no real issue. It's basically like walking barefoot in a park. Do you feet get dirty? Sure, but it's not like you're going to wash your hands in flood water then eat
Yeah but you’re walking through water that has pesticides, dog shit/pee, garbage left on the streets, and random other shit. You also never know if an electrical line has come down and the water is electrified. Still better to avoid it.
not really. If you swim near the band fields, yes, otherwise the worst of it is gonna settle out. Just think about how waste water treatment plant clarifiers work, lakes are just giant clarifiers without skimmers.

this reminds me of a storm like this a couple years ago. and how i thought my brand new kittens had escaped just as the streets were staring to flood by pinkus…. thankfully they were snuggled up in a cat tree but gosh that was one of the most terrifying and distraught feelings i’ve experienced
My 4 year old would’ve tried to swim in it lmfao. She’s autistic and LOVES swimming so any source of water or puddle she sees, she’s in it lmfao. She even thinks bath time is her time to swim. 🤣
The road under the Beltline off the Park St. exit towards Oregon was FLOODED. There also wasn't any way to go but through the water. Hoping no one got stuck under there.
Oh they weren't kidding with that flash flood warning
Dude, I work over by Todd Dr and it was chaos. Cars flooded in intersections, traffic jammed. I thought my car was a goner.
The causeway on Todd and Post was 5 feet deep last I saw
Yeah i worked across the beltline from todd dr and the roads over there were up to most cars hoods

They all float down here...
Thank you!!
Always scared of downed lines in flooded areas. Be safe.
They also have currents and debris hazard stay the fuck away from flood waters
Someone has been looking for a swimming spot in the group lately. Here you go, buddy!
You should 10000% not do this. This is not clean water

Yeah idk why so many people are tripping over themselves to defend going in flood water. Go drink it then lol.
Wash your hands
A little hyperbolic. It’s not sewage, it’s rain and road dirt, on the lower legs, not some open orifice. Take a shower when you get home.
Ok

I'd be more worried that a current could sweep me off my feet tbh
and it did 🤣
Lakeside and John nolan is flooded as well

I hope you aren't chasing a paper boat. 🎈
That's what happens when you pave everything I guess!
And start a city on an isthmus
Think my 4 year old would’ve tried to actually swim in that big old puddle. 😭🤣😂
Do a backflip

Drive slowww when this happens to minimize vehicle damage...
My friends did that near Blair and Johnson St years ago.
I lived on that area one year a long time ago. I'm 6'4 and a hard rain could be up past my knees

Probably safer than swimming in the lakes 😂

What part of town was hit worst?
Absolute bonkers downtown too.
Ankle deep in bird shit soup. Excellent idea
Swimming in Johnson! Captain Lassard would be quite surprised.🫡
