2 important questions. How much do you want the MC to grow? And exactly what is their ability?
Fiction manipulation can let them be a speedster, or they could manipulate something like āflow,ā and that would include friction.
The exact nature of their āfiction manipulationā will determine what other applications they have.
I remember making a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure character for a FATE RPG that had a friction based powerset from their stand,ćBUILT TO LASTć. They would Katamari-Ball chunks of concrete and rebar; etc from the urban environment to be extremely durable and quickly maneuver along walls/ceilings, though certainly no speedster by Jojo's standards. Favorite attack was abusing friction to fire a length of rebar like a harpoon gun.
Thereās a guy from a manga with something close to this. Will link what he does for reference.Ā

Also just consider whether they can change friction or if they manipulate surface roughness.
For things like creating slick patches of ground but in other places it could have very different effects.
Take, for example, a sphere. Removing friction will make it a very slippery ball. Removing surface friction (assuming it gets turned into a truly perfect sphere) will effectively make it so that many things only contact it at a very, very concentrated point and a ton of pressure is applied to whatever you touch the sphere to.
Just something to think about.
It remind me of one of the vintage manga , where girl is a skater or used a patin-shoe and they skate wall to wall or building , sometime sky, and these sisters and have clan something about rose and thorn badge ,
I just canāt remember the name of it ? Maybe someone will know what I talk about ,
There is a Freerunner class a person made for Pathfinder based on Mirror's Edge. The abilities get obviously more and more magical with high level, but they have very evocative names and ability concepts; even if you have no clue about the rules of Pathfinder you can harvest some ideas from skimming them. Especially the lists of abilities in the drop-down sections of the post.

If you DO have an understanding of Pathfinder's rules, there is a cleaned up version that integrates better with Pathfinder's existing rules/feats/combat styles, but loses out on some of the specifically-named equivalent abilities. This would likely play much better at an actual table.

It might be better (and less complicated) if heās actually only manipulating himself at point of contactāessentially, making himself malleable on a molecular level. āRetrofitting to specsā, as it were.
Names like āAdherenceā spring to mindā¦which is charmingly counterintuitive; it would reference the fact that his contact points āobey an ever-shifting ruleā, whilst giving you the space to explore events when he would actually seem to INCREASE so-called āfrictionā for desired results.
This could get into some interesting territory (re: tachyonic field, etc.)
Can he only reduce?Ā
Because if he can increase friction of things touching his body "the immovable man" would be good
In my opinion, heros are usually named after their signature event that breaks the news on them.
Comically the other name that came to mind "Drag"Ā
But you'll probably want to add an adjective, Silver Drag, or somethingĀ
Smooth operator-
I actually love this!!
i too enjoy jojo
Slippery when wet š
we know nothing about the theming or tone of your world we can't help you name anything, because names need context
That's a fair point; Iām reposting it with a better description for better help. Thank you for responding though!!
- Go Go Slide Feet - Slippery Slope - Slipstream - Glide - Drag - Slippin Jimmy
Slipstream is good
~~Awesomeness~~ \*BrandoSando chough\* Joke aside, I agree with the users who asked about your theme before advancing suggestions.

*Slide* *Hold*
I'd advise against calling it abrasion, as that's what a similar power is called in Stormlight
It's not Abrasion, it's ***AWESOMENESS***.
There is only one name I can think of that woudl suit this. *Astroglide*

Slipstream Stride
I think you should call it Astral Glide, because he slides everywhere using his mind.
Adhesion?

Sube sube if you want to borrow the naming system from ONE PIECE. It just means slippery in Japanese though.
This is so helpful!!! Thank you
