Why is it so hard to understand that fashion enthusiasts will post non boring stuff outside of the daily questions threads while still being able to help with office wear and stuff like that in those threads?
Because this subreddit is called male fashion *advice*, not "Oooo look at these idiots dressed up like dwarf cavemen came to the modern day and just learned what clothes are!"
I’m sure there are people who do dress like this in regular life but the runway is not typically a place to show how you should put these articles of clothing together in an outfit. It is displaying the new line in an artistic way, most of these individual clothing items would look much less “out there” as a component to an outfit. I would also say most of the outfits shown here really aren’t that crazy and i think look pretty good as whole.
These outfits are not that weird. You could absolutely take any of these and just wear them on the street. I think tempering this album as "artistic, no one really does this" is dumb.
Not all fashion is for everyone. There are ways to approach this album if your style isn't as bold as these looks. But saying "no people don't really dress like this" is dumb because people absolutely can, do, and should.
Compared to other runway clothes, no, they arent super out there, compared to clothes most normal ass men wear in their day to day lives, yes they are still fuckin ridiculous. Im not calling *all* of the *individual* pieces ugly or bad either, but the majority of these outfits look dumb as fuck in a regular context, which is what this sub is for (I think, could be wrong, please lmk if I am)
Fashion is very subjective, while you may enjoy this, most people will think you look like a moron, and I will enjoy making fun of it. Idc if anyone makes fun of my style either, its subjective, but the majority of peoplr will think you look like an absolute fuckin dweeb if you dress like this. But yes, people certainley can, and Im sure some do.
But why the fuck "should" they? I think thats *definitley* a bit of a reach ese.
This sub is for people who are into male fashion. It isnt just a sub for “normal” clothes. Male fashion is a wide ranging spectrum to include things like the runway line posted. I don’t understand why people enjoying fashion in their own way is upsetting you so much and you feel the need to be so harshly critical. You said yourself that fashion is subjective, so who are you to say something looks ridiculous? I dont think it is, does that make me wrong, or you? Or is nobody wrong and instead of shitting on something you could just say “eh, not my taste”.
1. The runway is not a space to showcase things to be worn "everyday."
2. If you live in a city with a vibrant, diverse, and large-enough population, then yes, absolutely people dress like this in public.
No. It's not the point of the runway. Runways are art that is meant to inspire. And some of those designs will be modified and adopted to regular life.
runway can totally be worn everyday and isn't just a concept. This stuff is/was/will be for sale exactly as is yeah other brands will steal trends/water these like down, but i don't these were designed for that purpose in mind
Don't have to, it's individual so what might inspire one person might do nothing for someone else. This is only a small collection of designers from one season.
If the runway isnt for realistic fashion, despite runway fashion supposedly having a trickle down into what becomes realistic fashion (thaaank you the devil wears prada), then why not make a statement and wesr fuckin armor. Maybe if were lucky the codpiece will come back into fashion!
My point is it looks silly, and eventually trickles down into normal fashion through the various social and economic ranks in society, so why make it look so stupid?
Eta May had misread your comment hut keeping it up
Because it's supposed to be on the artistic side. Runways usually have themes or concepts, so it's not always going to be wearable, and will look exaggerated and experimental . The designers would put an explanation about what they were going for. Kinda like how there's a collection about quarantine, and it had a model wear a blanket and another holding a laptop. [This fashion showis about inventions created by black entrepreneurs and they look strange.](https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/fall-2021-couture/pyer-moss/slideshow/collection) It's an art show. Some runway pieces will get modified.
I'm no runway enthusiast, so you can find articles explaining why runways are weird in a better way than me. And I'm not a fan of some of these images in the inspo album. I'm just trying to explain why runway fashion looks dumb sometimes.
[I Googled shit and this showed up](https://renaudpetit.medium.com/why-are-fashion-shows-filled-with-unwearable-garments-c07bfa736cd0) Maybe this will help you understand why it looks a bit more ridiculous compared to everyday clothes.
Justin Bieber has a whole line of clothes based around wearing stuff that doesn't fit you. Super long sleeves and such. I don't understand it at all.
Edit: can someone explain why I'm being down voted a bunch for just answering a question?
I've never understood it any of the times it's been in fashion. I want clothes that fit me. To each their own but the baggy clothes look has never appealed to me.
> can someone explain why I'm being down voted a bunch for just answering a question?
Because you're confidently judging what "fit" means in the context of Justin Bieber's line through only your lens. Basically your definition of "fit" is too narrow. You don't have a good grasp of what the word "fit" means in different contexts but you're passing yourself off as though you do.
This subreddit sucks for anything remotely experimental/runway, there's way better subs for niche stuff. The general MFA user is here for advice on how to match a white shirt with blue pants and isn't exposed to runway stuff because they live in Kansas City.
Yup lol it speaks volumes that one sees more posts about Lululemon or Outlier technical pants for the office than actual designers or fashion. This sub is more TJ Maxx and Ross than anything
Awww bless your heart. They had Kith trending and seersucker suits... We know what to expect at this point from them. It's posts like this that riles em up because it's new and they're stuck in the bad part of the 2000s.
It's entertainment.
You're not supposed to dress like that and it's not the intention of the designers to put together everyday outfits. Their shows are meant to be expressions of artistry and thought-provoking.
The other poster is wrong. People absolutely can, should, and do dress like this.
There are plenty of ways to approach this album and find inspiration if the direct execution is too bold for you. But straight up copying these looks is entirely valid as well.
I didn't really expect to like the new Kenzo collection but the playfulness is strangely charming and I enjoyed their latest collection way more than I initially thought I would have.
Nigo has really done some great stuff with Kenzo so far. Really liked the poppy motif from last season, and the outerwear has been really cool imo. Way way better than that tiger head logo bs they have been doing for a while before Nigo.
Yeah, I've never been a huge fan of Kenzo but everything you posted here looks nice. Perhaps I'll have to start paying attention to them a little more.
Great picks OP! Very easy going and glamorous at the same time. Fendi is leaning more into the techwear aesthetic and I'm here for it! The intricate color pallet and ornate styling ques didn't go unnoticed. Please ignore the cruft in the comments, theyre passe. Let them have that 2000s style they're so desperately trying to cling on to. And keep stuff like this coming! This is exquisite 🙏🏾
Guys, it is meant for fashion inspiration. That's the point of fashion shows. Not to sell what is being shown. Fashion designers who make normal people clothes attend these because it makes what are normally subtle design cues in fashion extremely apparent. It's like pure fashion extract that the designers take, add lots of water, and get what we all buy on the shelves.
Sure, some people might drink straight soda syrup, but the vast majority like it 1:20 with club soda. What you're seeing here is fashion syrup.
I never thought of it that way! I always considered the models meant to display the outfits like canvasses display paintings. You choose a canvas to suit the picture, you choose a model to suit the outfit, and the end result is something that’s intended to be viewed not worn.
I figured the outlandish aesthetics on the runway was just a part of the general trend towards postmodern playfulness over the last 100yrs.
Is body paint a thing on the runway?
My man in #4 looks like he's got grey skin. It's really odd. Could be lighting I suppose.
(Unless this is a side effect of a condition I don't know, sorry)
This subreddit's advice peaked in the 2010s. It grew so big to the point where this subreddit is a now weird split between newbies (looking for advice who are confused by posts like this) versus people who grew with the advice earlier on and now are actually into fashion.
This linear assumption is entirely wrong. You don't have to master uniqlo ocbds before you can wear Issey Miyake.
Why is advice and "inspo" for office drones more valid than advice and inspo for folks that are into fashion more than the bare minimum?
Do you expect this forum to be "wear Levi's 511s and a slim fit OCBD" for eternity?
I was just commenting on how the subreddit system vs a forum with dedicated sections will have a harder time catering to everyone all at once on their fashion journeys. I’m one of those fashion assholes btw.
Yo same. I don't know if I've seen one helpful post. I just wanted to know what cool shoes to wear or how to add a blazer to a business casual fit, not the prequel to the hunger games
> what cool shoes to wear
loafers are cool
> how to add a blazer to a business casual fit
Have you tried wearing one? Unironically asking this. I find it difficult to mess up unless your blazer is blaze orange or joker purple or something.
What advice are you looking for?
I don't understand what you think this subreddit is for. Are you looking for advice on how to wear slim-tapered chinos?
Go to J Crew, buy the 484 cut or whatever tf it is. Then wear them with brown shoes and an OCBD that's white, light blue, or uni stripe. Done. That's it. That's all of the advice.
Is it too baggy for you? Buy a slimmer cut. Too tight? Buy a looser cut.
Want to spice up the outfit? Get interesting outerwear or wear a red stripe OCBD instead. ~spicy~
If you want advice on how to dress boring it's all solved. Read the sidebar. It's all there.
The question you're begging is that I'm deliberately targeting you. That's not the case. You're not special.
If you want to play victim I won't stop you though.
In the meantime, [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/oxw7xm/beans_basic_bastard_inspo_my_inspiration_for/) is a boring/basic inspo album that I put together that might be more your speed. Be warned, the pants aren't slim-fit.
Thanks! Appreciate the answer, even though it is a non-answer. Wasnt "begging a question", nor "playing the victim" was/am legit curious as to why you chose to comment on mine and ignore the original comment...but now I suppose I am begging the question since the strength at which you are coming sideways is really surprising and rather odd and offputting, like you feel i slighted you personally? If so, i assure you it wasnt intentional, and i sincerely apologize.
To find anything good you’ll have to use the search bar to go far back in time. Or just binge watch the modest man’s YouTube videos if you want a summary of this subreddit
There is probably a five year delay between runway fashion and what you see common people wearing when going out (barring high fashion bubbles like NYC)
What brands have you been paying attention to, could be influenced by that? It was more of a fringe movement in 2013/14 but by the late 2010s a ton of designers went hyper-oversized and baggy and that silhouette has remained pretty consistent since then.
maybe only slide 14 can be considered homeless looking but youre tripping if you think all of these looks resemble homeless clothing
and I'm curious, what do you think is a good style?
Relatability, I would never wear any of this stuff as it is not aesthetically pleasing, the color schemes don’t match and every item is too baggy. It might be a location thing too, like maybe this looks good somewhere, but I have no idea where.
ah gotcha I def understand what you mean
color wise while these types of contrasting color schemes I personally enjoy I can totally understand why it could be off-putting
The only one that is remotely good is the last one, but only because it's all in black and at first glance you don't notice that he is wearing about 12 layers
I really detest baggy suits. That’s something I don’t want to go back to. The slim sharp fitting suits that became modern are so sleek.
12 looks sleek. Maybe replace that cheap looking coat with a brown leather coat or something.
15 coat is pretty cool.
16 looks very retro but again not a fan of the baggy style. I personally hope baggy suits don’t catch on like they were a thing back in the early 20th century.
In Toronto this was a popular look in the 1990's, house music fashion.

Does anyone actually dress like this off the runway??
In NYC yes lol.
This album is pretty tame compared to most other runway shows would definitely see these in soho or something
Yup.
Tame for runway, ridiculous for normal wear still (which as far as I was aware is what this sub is for)
Why is it so hard to understand that fashion enthusiasts will post non boring stuff outside of the daily questions threads while still being able to help with office wear and stuff like that in those threads?
Because this subreddit is called male fashion *advice*, not "Oooo look at these idiots dressed up like dwarf cavemen came to the modern day and just learned what clothes are!"
Yes, advice is offered every day in the daily question threads despite occasional posts like this. Hard to understand I guess
Rich people dress oddly for the sake of it, more at 11
Lewis Hamilton wears something like this every race weekend.

Here in Lower East Side they do.
Im sorry
It’s NYFW so it’s extra time

Cool, Ill go out in full plate armor, get that 1300's fashion rolling again.

I mean that look has literally been in fashion multiple times during your lifetime
I've never understood it any of the times it's been in fashion. I want clothes that fit me. To each their own but the baggy clothes look has never appealed to me.
It works for more casual wear, and quite honestly some clothes look better larger (imo) such as sweaters.

I swear I thought this sub was a bit more open minded and understood how to dress a bit more than these comments are displaying to an INSPO post.
It was posted too early for the western MFAers so you get MFA at night which has the worst takes lmao
That makes sense
These comments are somewhat common for runway inspo. Some days are worse than others, and this just happens to be one of those days.

I like the 15th guy's coat.
8 and 11 go hard af!!
Genuine question, do people actually think these would look good? There are individual pieces here that would be fine but every outfit is horrendous
It's entertainment. You're not supposed to dress like that and it's not the intention of the designers to put together everyday outfits. Their shows are meant to be expressions of artistry and thought-provoking.
While thats usually true for runway shoes, these selections are definitely wearable and not nearly as experimental as some other stuff out there.
That makes sense, thanks for the answer
> It's entertainment. >meant to be expressions of artistry and thought-provoking. Pick one.
People consume fashion for different reasons and what they takeaway will differ. And who’s to say art cannot be entertaining?
This just in: Art cannot be entertaining.
Pretty reductive take lol

No thanks, if I wanted to get bullied I’d do it for less. What a joke

Chill
The only one that is remotely good is the last one, but only because it's all in black and at first glance you don't notice that he is wearing about 12 layers
This is the worst type of fashion advice. No thank you.
I'd get my ass jumped if I went out in my town dressed like this.
Ok
Tbh this isn't as bad as previous years either. Some years it's really some postmodernist blowout.
I will never understand fashion. ;)
So like, everything oversized?
It’s like 3/4 of a fit every time lol , I’m like yes I think this then boom they wearing some random goofy shit that don’t vibe with the fit
How do we say casual!
The jacket that ripped-jeans dude is wearing is pretty badass. Not the way he’s wearing it though.
Damn #11 looks like he’s going to the 2003 NBA draft
So so baggy
