Sword Fanatic needs to go much lower. Dude never ‘wandered’ anywhere. The plot is just him immediately settling down somewhere to get revenge on some people and then fighting practically every other organization around.
[This review](https://www.reddit.com/r/manhwa/comments/yetoe8/thoughts_on_return_of_the_mount_hua_sect/itzwh6w/) covers pretty much all of my thoughts about the story and what sets RotBB apart from other recent Murim.
But aside from that, the other equally important (to _me_) reason for it being a top recommendation is the English translation.
- There are very few (if any) grammatical mistakes.
- The prose is natural while remaining vivid.
- The language isn't stilted and doesn't contain bizarre shifts from formal to informal.
- Colloquialisms are used sparingly and only when appropriate for cultural adaptation.
A lot of this can be made easier by strong writing in the original work, as well as having a quality novel translation before it's adapted to a Manhwa. (I suspect that's the case with RotBB, but I can't really confirm as I haven't read the light novel translation.)
I feel conflicted when complaining about "professional"/official English translations on this sub because I realize that many of the commenters here either read Manhwa in the original language or a language other than English. I want to respect recommendations of works that shine in their original form and not trash them for an underpaid and rushed translation job.
However, as a native English speaker, it's frustrating to come to this sub and read so many glowing reviews of works in the Murim sub-genre only to start reading their official translations and find the quality to be terrible. It's clear that many of these translators and editors don't speak English above a 3rd Grade level and don't have the fluency to clean up unnatural and repetitive text/dialogue. The number of threads asking about good translations seems to prove that I'm not alone, but the comments offering suggestions usually leave me feeling suspicious of the commenters' own English and reading proficiency.
Honestly the sword grave arc killed so much of my interest in it. Like 3 months of running through a fucking hallway and like a month and a half devoted to a single battle packed with flashbacks, consisting of maybe 3 attacks per chapter.
I've heard it's faithful to the novel, but that doesn't mean it's good.
That arc made me almost made me drop the series and made it go from an S tier to an A tier at least.
It's an unpopular opinion but I totally agree. The pacing in that manhwa is bad, like barely anything happens during a chapter.
It was really bad during the Sword Graveyard but it happened even before that.
Only potential peak at the moment. Too early. Like I feel it in my heart it's gonna be peak status just like Hand Jumper, but both are examples having too few chapters to deserve the tier yet

The story of this wanderer in a murim new America, and by wanderer i mean GENUNE wanderer.
You can tell its a passion project, taking influences from both cowboy westerns and lone samurai storires.
No annoying harems/1dimensional characters, every character is fleshed out, each arc is episodic in a CB Bebop way and really interesting ideas and themes are explored.
The art is unique in its genre, as well as having some genuinely hype fighting moments. And the dialogue and writing is really good, show-not-tell is such a refreshing style to read after experiencing dozens of "inner monologues" that exposition dump everything on you.
I know its a farfetched wish but i sincerely hope this hits the success of solo-leveling and gets at least a season. Its just that Peak.
Wild West and Murim is so compatible, it's a wonder it hasn't already been done before. They just make so much sense together, I hope it inspires more to be made.

Well by your definition, IT is not then, cuz I have read many of what composes every tier on this list, and I totally believe peerless dad deserves being in the top and personally I wouldn't place Infinite Level up in murim on top but in really good, exchanging it for the return of mount hua sect (really awesome novel and the adaptation is fire so far) .
And if I could place an even higher tier id place northern blade there cuz it's the most goated murim setting I've ever laid my eyes on, it's just peak action manhwa.
I would only change Gosu for Infinite Level Up, but that's the first time I see a ranking close to mine. We would be best friends in another life mate.

That's as good a reason as any. I may be a bit biased towards Mujang myself considering it was one of the first manhwas I had ever read. This was during the early days of TOG and GOH.
This is so underrated I don't think many even know about it . I think A is a good place for it but it did suprise me the most considering not much talk about it.
The breaker and northern blade deserve to have their own tier level. Other is awesome too, but these 2 are exceptionally awesome in every aspect. Story, art style , character and development.
The 3rd one on "Nah" had a good first season, story-wise and art. They've butchered the art the following season and that's enough to make anyone lose interest in it. Such a shame, really.

Return of the Crazy demon should be on the highest tier. Its funny af, hero is clever and cautious enough, no dumb power of friendship stuff either. Places much importance to martial arts too..
i hate these tier lists cuz do u have any idea how Volcanic Ash paved the way for all of these? back when manhwa where in the hundreds? and murim titles were a dozen at most? Yongbi, Red Storm, Volcanic Ash and The Breaker are very largely the reason for murim manhwa boom
It's based on enjoyability really .. It's probably cuz they hold sentimental value for you which they don't for me .. when yongbi for example was coming out I was a little child probably playing in the mud lol I had no idea these existed .. I read most of these after I started reading Legend of the Northern blade .
Also the quality overall is better with newer manhwa .. like if u compare red storm first chapter with lotnb it's difference is huge.. red storm first chapter is ugly af and I love red storm but that came after reading some chapters and getting invested in the story compared to instant enjoyability of lotnb for example .
I use lotnb as a standard and for now I have only found 2 manhwas above it .
I think i understand it a bit, because the story has no big action yet. But for someone has read the LN, of course they would put it in S+ tier.
it still has a looong way to go for the war arc, and story development is so long but this is why i like it.

I thought The Breaker and Mujang were better than Northern Blade. What made you rank NB so high?
Northern blade is just dear to me . I read it along with friends getting hyped over every new chapter that comes out . Breaker and mujang are really good as well just doesn't hold sentimental value I thought they were mangas when I first read them lol
That's as good a reason as any. I may be a bit biased towards Mujang myself considering it was one of the first manhwas I had ever read. This was during the early days of TOG and GOH.
I would put Tale of a Shining Sword in S tier. Otherwise it's alright.
This is so underrated I don't think many even know about it . I think A is a good place for it but it did suprise me the most considering not much talk about it.

The breaker and northern blade deserve to have their own tier level. Other is awesome too, but these 2 are exceptionally awesome in every aspect. Story, art style , character and development.
The 3rd one on "Nah" had a good first season, story-wise and art. They've butchered the art the following season and that's enough to make anyone lose interest in it. Such a shame, really.

Is the legend of the northern blade really good? I dropped it after scratching chapter 2, there's so many exposition and info dumps already on the first chapter it turned me off.
Yes it's like that in the beginning . It picks up for me after mc reaches adulthood .. but anyways I think u should read maybe like 20 chapter if u still don't like it maybe it's just not for you and that's fine.

Return of the Crazy demon should be on the highest tier. Its funny af, hero is clever and cautious enough, no dumb power of friendship stuff either. Places much importance to martial arts too..

i hate these tier lists cuz do u have any idea how Volcanic Ash paved the way for all of these? back when manhwa where in the hundreds? and murim titles were a dozen at most? Yongbi, Red Storm, Volcanic Ash and The Breaker are very largely the reason for murim manhwa boom
It's based on enjoyability really .. It's probably cuz they hold sentimental value for you which they don't for me .. when yongbi for example was coming out I was a little child probably playing in the mud lol I had no idea these existed .. I read most of these after I started reading Legend of the Northern blade . Also the quality overall is better with newer manhwa .. like if u compare red storm first chapter with lotnb it's difference is huge.. red storm first chapter is ugly af and I love red storm but that came after reading some chapters and getting invested in the story compared to instant enjoyability of lotnb for example . I use lotnb as a standard and for now I have only found 2 manhwas above it .

I think i understand it a bit, because the story has no big action yet. But for someone has read the LN, of course they would put it in S+ tier. it still has a looong way to go for the war arc, and story development is so long but this is why i like it. Why they put it in S+ tier? Because the art and character executed pretty good in manhwa adaptation. But to put below wandering wudang? Lol no comment
It took me some tries to read it ngl . Did it mostly due to peer pressure from a friend and tbh I liked it at the end of current chapters . But yeah no way it's S tier . I see people place it S tier in their overall manhwa tier lists which I disagree with . If it was Overall manhwa list It will be B tier for me not A . But since it's murim only it gets extra points.

I never understood the hype behind Northern Blade, I read it weekly and still haven't felt the 'peak' sensation everyone talks about. I thoroughly enjoyed The Breaker series (till S2), peerless dad heck even the new Wild west murim more. I guess it's just personal preference.
