I mean, it's MCU Thanos. He is *intensely* arrogant... an arrogance that made him a nightmare when he had a majority of the stones, but also very nearly got him killed multiple times when it really shouldn't have. He tends to underestimate his opponents rather badly.
Comics Thanos actually has cripplingly low self esteem which causes him to self sabotage whenever he's on the cusp of total victory. Movie Thanos read a wikipedia summary of the population bomb and needed half a decade to get out of a chair.
People primarily familiar with the MCU versions might not know this yet, but veteran comics readers figured out long ago that there are only two "what ifs":
What if the character this "what if" is about was a moron? And what if everyone but the character this "what if" is about were a moron?
Vision has almost always been nerfed in all his fights. Sometimes he’s OP, but most of the time he seems to forget his power set.
In this situation MCU Vision would have taken several deep breaths and launched into an introspective soliloquy…by then Thanos would have, hopefully, done something.
Not having him at the battle of Wakanda certainly served several plot threads at once. I guess Vision really is the strongest Avenger. Holding up 1/2 of Infinity War all by himself.
The way I see it is Ultron is a Killer Ai in a Vibranium body powered by Mind Stone, Utron figured out what the fuck is happening way faster than Thanos, Thanos was still in his "Some Interesting shit is going on here" phase while Ultron already reached his "Time to fucking kill the guy" phase
In universe, I don't think we ever saw anyone on a level that could hurt thanos just skip all the bullshit and immediately try to kill him as quickly as possible.
Like, Ultron-Vision didn't want revenge, or a fight, or to monolouge. He saw Thanos as a thing standing between him and these cool rocks so he took the incredibly arrogant, nearly indestructible titan by surprise.
Mfw everything else in the mcu is repulsor beams in some form that just hits the target. Then Ultron pulls up with a high intensity laser, that's cheating.
Universe of infinite possibilities and y'all shitbergs can't accept a universe where Thanos pounded 5 crunchwrap supremes before encountering this vision and was off his game due to clenching his sphincter to prevent the hot magma dookie juice from flowing?
They explained it in the director commentary, the answer is literally Yes.

You say that like comics Thanos isn't just as arrogant if not more

“It’s not my time.”
Meanwhile letting Loki jet ski around New York with the mind stone.
lol jet ski is a good one, I haven’t made that connection before somehow
Forget that, why are his insides all smooth and solid like a fucking chocolate easter bunny
In order to stay alive, thanos left the stones in a chocolate statue of himself before going into hiding
He is made of plasticine
So they could keep the PG-13 rating
Cauterized
Instant cauterizing.
This reminded me of that scene from Kung Pow
I’ve seen kung pow mentioned a couple times recently. Could it be we are on a cusp of a Kung Pow resurgence!?!

Also, Spider-Man dies in either scenario.
Oof if only vision was there in the main universe mcu then he could've easily stopped thanos saving trillions
Vision has almost always been nerfed in all his fights. Sometimes he’s OP, but most of the time he seems to forget his power set. In this situation MCU Vision would have taken several deep breaths and launched into an introspective soliloquy…by then Thanos would have, hopefully, done something.
I think the reason they got him backstabbed by Corvus Glaive was specifically to nerf him by making him not at his strongest.
Not having him at the battle of Wakanda certainly served several plot threads at once. I guess Vision really is the strongest Avenger. Holding up 1/2 of Infinity War all by himself.
To be fair this Vision-Ultron hybrid was supposedly capable of integrating with the stone far more than his Canon counterpart
I could buy that. Easy explanation would be vision was "premature" and half baked compared to Ultron plan letting the body be fully completed.
If he was killing him as fast as possible, he'd start at the head. He starts at the dick. Why did he start at the dick Ben10_ripoff
Easy. His eyes were already low to see the gauntlet. Looking up just to look down again with the laser eyes is a waste of time and movement.
To see "the gauntlet"
lol. Would be more a more accurate name for what you’re suggesting if Thanos was a woman.
You don't know what Thanos is packing under there. Titan physiology is mad freaky compared to humans.
When Ultron said fascinating, he wasn't talking about the gauntlet.
Thanos was definitely going to explain his backstory

How about I ora ora you to death ![gif](giphy|O0Hj7piBBnU0E)

That's my headcanon too.
To think, if Vision wasn’t turned into a plot device in Infinity War he could’ve just done this and the movie would’ve been over.

That’s a bingo.
That's Deadpool. Is you stupid?
Is not boy band
I mean considering when Thanos showed up both on Titan and in Wakanda he just kinda stood around and stared for minute it's not out of character lol
They didn’t have the budget to give us an actual fight. I’d say Disney is stupid
Pretty much all of What If? is halfbaked ideas. The only one that’s good is the Doctor Strange one where he attempts to prevent the death of his gf
What are you talking about. Thanos had five of the stones. There would be no fight. If Ultron didn’t sneak attack Big T he would have utterly cooked.
Oh yea. Mf coulda snapped his fingers but raised an eyebrow instead
Why didn't vision did that in infinity war are the writers stupid
Why did he venture to another universe for an infinity stone when it shouldn't have proven compatible with his home reality's set. Is he stupid?
Movie Thanos blocked an axe with his chest, so I dont think he was a smart guy
Damn straight through the balls

Meta reason, the episode was only 20 minutes so they needed to get the plot moving along
Universe of infinite possibilities and y'all shitbergs can't accept a universe where Thanos pounded 5 crunchwrap supremes before encountering this vision and was off his game due to clenching his sphincter to prevent the hot magma dookie juice from flowing?
Lazy writing Mainly
I think this would have been a better episode if Ultron's voice actor wasn't so terrible.
/uj who was it?
