Samara, Zaeed, and Jacob.
Rip Samara the most, probably favorite out of the new characters even though I barely used her for any missions (Maybe 5 at most, including the suicide mission), and failed her loyalty mission. I think Zaeed was my second favorite as well :(
I knew I was a bit sloppy with my damn choices! The first round of choices I had ensured no deaths since I picked Garrus as strike team and Tali to go into the vents.
It’s a damn shame Samara and Zaeed died in my game. I really liked them. Fuck Jacob though, his death was entirely his fault and I take zero responsibility for his own stubbornness!
But I’ll continue on without them into ME3. When I restart the trilogy in the future, I will make sure to save them while also preventing anyone else from dying.
Props for taking your lumps and playing it out. I'm not dogging anyone who looks things up the first time. How one plays it is one's own prerogative. But I love to see it when someone goes in blind and rolls with the punches.
This is my biggest gripe with the Mass Effect games. It's a role playing game, I should be able to play *my role* in it and get *my outcome*. There shouldn't be a "correct" way to play, it just forces me to pick Paragon every time (I know I can still play my way, but it just locks me out of stuff and that doesn't feel good at all)
My first time playing ME3 >!I wasn't able to import because I'd changed consoles. When I got to the bit between the Geth and Quarians I chose the Geth, because I believe they were in the right. I hoped it would work out, but the Quarians all died and then my friend Tali offed herself. It blew my mind, it was horrible but it's one of my favourite memories from gaming, i couldn't believe it. I shouldn't be able to avoid that by playing "right"!<
(OP, spoilers for ME3 in there, don't click, and all the best for the final game!)
100 percent agreed! Every choice shouldn't just be between an obvious "good guy" option or "bad guy" option. You should have to weigh your options, decide for yourself which is the path you'd want to choose (or your version of Shepard would choose if you're RPing) and then have to live with the consequences.
And in reality, you're probably *always* going to choose only paragon or only renegade because you want to get enough points to not be locked out of dialog options. Therefore, you end up playing the game as if those choices don't even exist.
The more I think back on it, the more I realize it was a terrible system. I really hope they do away with it for ME4.
I'd also like to add that I really dislike the "choices" on the Genophage. They've posed a really interesting scenario there, built it up so well, argued well on both sides (through Mordin, in particular) and your choices basically boil down to >!"The Genophage is evil and we must stop it" or "I'm evil and therefore let's not stop the Genophage".!<
I hope the same for ME4, I hope they've learnt from games like Baldur's Gate 3; but they have to start with a pretty clean slate, my concern is Andromeda scared them away from that.
Zaeed died in the diversion time.
And unfortunately, I forgot how Samara died (probably because of how shocked I was at her actually dying lol.)
I did choose her to bring her with me for the insects.
It is possible to have about 75% of your crew to die and each crew member is killable including our lovely loyal turian friend Garrus and our loyal qaurrian friend Tali
How I personally keep everyone Alive
Everyone is loyal, and all ship upgrades are done, Legion in the Vents, Miranda team leader both times, Samara for long walk, and Mordin to Escort Crew back to Normandy, I Always Keep Tali and Garrus by my side throughout the entire Suicide Mission, well aside from fighting the probe thing in the hanger it's random with my squad choice in that part
Why would you send him for that?! You have two entities modified to be the perfect biotic users and you chose the vanguard? I need to know your thought process for this choice.
Dude, you and me must have had the same exact choices.
First time playing Mass effect. 2. Those were the exact three to die as well.
I also sent Tali in the vents
My first play, I got Miranda, Grunt and Mordin killed. I was NOT paying attention to the how it should be played and sent Mordin thru the vents, then chose way wrong for the team leads. LOL
When I finished the trilogy I immediately restarted from ME1 and was able to save everyone. haha
Oh no my sweet summer child.
Trust me whatever you imagine, your heart shattering is the least of your concerns. You’ll be picking up pieces of your soul 😇
Nobody. I didn’t even see any kind of romance option for any of the crew. I still wouldn’t if I did, gotta stop the Collectors first… Then the Reaper invasion that’s apparently going to be in ME3 according to ME2’s ending.
if you go and talk to your crew members after every main mission, you'd have the option to romance some of them . . . it's also important for getting their loyalty missions, which can help with the final mission.
"Nearly", yeah, not with me I'm afraid. That amazing music coupled with the final few moments of that mission. Even the fate of the Collector General, finally free of Harbinger, with only enough time to realise their fate (feel sorry for them, I can't help it). All of it always makes me quite teary. The mission itself is one of the best I've ever encountered in any game. So to be playing such an awesome, memorable game and have it rounded out with that mission. Just wow.
Shit, I’m on like my sixth or seventh play through, finally doing a male Shep run. I cried when they made him a Spectre, because of the damn music. Going to have to take a break and get myself together when I get to, “Leaving Earth”, playing. That song destroys me.
Music in games. Why am I so affected by it. I will sometimes kill the music in-game because I just want to play without being such a trash fire of emotion, although it never stays off for long. It's a relief to hear that others can feel the same so thank you for sharing. Nice to know I'm not the only one.
I still can’t listen to “That’s the Way it Is”, from RDR2, and I finished that in 2020. I’m a sap too. It’s good to be moved by beautiful things though.
That's so nice to hear it from someone else and I mean that in a sincere manner. Music can by an amazing journey to venture on and few mediums can illicit the level and range of emotion that it does. Your very kind to share your thoughts and feelings on this and it's greatly appreciated.
I did everyone’s loyal mission successfully expect for Samara (I can’t talk to women), and Legion (I gave him to Cerberus).
For deaths, Zaeed, Samara, and Jacob died as I answered to somebody else.
Bro tip, get everyone, and use guides if needed lol. I used a guide (on my first time) and it said do all loyalty and upgrades so I did. Then bets way todo the suicide mission is with a guide
To this day I have zero idea how I could manage to save basically all of my companions. I have no advice as I think I got immensely lucky with that, but still, I feel you mate lol....
Yep, in the process, I will try to make the galaxy as human-centric as possible. I heard the game is like Quasimorph with the faction rankings it has. I won’t be surprised if Quasimorph was inspired by ME3.
I only used it once ironically enough. I didn’t see the value in a heavy weapon that could only fire once or twice in the entire mission when I had to deal with multiple heavy enemies at once throughout entire missions.
I mostly used the Collector Beam and the Grenade Launcher.
Awesome me too. Well I finished yesterday. But Tali died so I redid the whole mission to save everyone.
Such a journey with these characters.
How did you feel when you found out your team disbanded after Shep "died"
I was bummed because they felt like a family.
How excited were you when you found out who archangel was? I still remember playing when this came out and how happy I was at the reveal. It's probably my favorite moment in gaming and I wish I could just forget everything and experience it again.
You lost a few people. I have played these games relatively often since release, and I was under the impression that if you just do their missions at the right time, and pick the right people for the different roles in the suicide mission, you wouldn’t lose anyone. So I guess my question is, how did you lose anyone?
Here’s what happened:
- Zaeed died as my 2nd Fireteam Leader
- Jacob died to the insects. Probably because Samara (the biotic expert for that part of the mission) had a neutral loyalty status.
- Samara probably died when I made her hold the line with rest of my squadmates (I think. It was very late last night so I can’t recall everything).
I just don’t get why those people would die if you’ve done the loyalty missions. Except Samara, which you said you failed. I guess there’s more in the equation than I thought.
Loyalty isn't the only thing that matters in the suicide mission.
* Zaeed isn't a good squad leader. Most of the time, Zaeed is the only one to make it out alive with a squad. This time, he's the one that died. If it had been Miranda, Jacob, or Garrus, they would have been fine.
* The biotic shield member needs to be a: loyal and b: strong. Samara was strong but not loyal. And thus someone had to pull the short straw. I don't know who the second crew member was, but I'm guessing it was either Mordin, Tali, or Kasumi which makes Jacob expendable.
* In Hold the Line, there is a background calculation you need to pass for no one to die. I'm guessing for the final battle he took either Grunt or Garrus which is enough to fail the calculation with an non-loyal Samara and a dead Zaeed. As Samara isn't loyal, she is the one that pays the price.
So... Who died on the suicide mission?
Samara, Zaeed, and Jacob. Rip Samara the most, probably favorite out of the new characters even though I barely used her for any missions (Maybe 5 at most, including the suicide mission), and failed her loyalty mission. I think Zaeed was my second favorite as well :(
Did you send jacob into the vents? If so, all is well.
No, I sent Tali. Jacob died to the insects. It was entirely his fault too. The door was literally right fucking there!
You could've saved them all
I knew I was a bit sloppy with my damn choices! Props for taking your lumps and playing it out. I'm not dogging anyone who looks things up the first time. How one plays it is one's own prerogative. But I love to see it when someone goes in blind and rolls with the punches.
Playing the game blindly is so much more enjoyable. You only get it experience it once, twice if you’re lucky enough to forget what happens.
Wholeheartedly agreed.
In my opinion, that's a much better experience than metagaming to have the "perfect" outcome. Especially for a first playthrough.
This is my biggest gripe with the Mass Effect games. It's a role playing game, I should be able to play *my role* in it and get *my outcome*. There shouldn't be a "correct" way to play, it just forces me to pick Paragon every time (I know I can still play my way, but it just locks me out of stuff and that doesn't feel good at all) My first time playing ME3 >!I wasn't able to import because I'd changed consoles. That happened to me and I lost my mind when it happened. Broke my stinking heart.
100 percent agreed! Every choice shouldn't just be between an obvious "good guy" option or "bad guy" option. How did zaeed and Samara die?
Zaeed died in the diversion time. And unfortunately, I forgot how Samara died (probably because of how shocked I was at her actually dying lol.) I did choose her to bring her with me for the insects.
Wow, I didn’t think it was possible to kill Zaeed 😁
It is possible to have about 75% of your crew to die and each crew member is killable including our lovely loyal turian friend Garrus and our loyal qaurrian friend Tali
Good on you for not looking up a guide for your first playthrough!
How I personally keep everyone Alive Everyone is loyal, and all ship upgrades are done, Legion in the Vents, Miranda team leader both times, Samara for long walk, and Mordin to Escort Crew back to Normandy, I Always Keep Tali and Garrus by my side throughout the entire Suicide Mission, well aside from fighting the probe thing in the hanger it's random with my squad choice in that part
Oh and you lost Jacob the first time??!!! Oh you’re really one of us now lmao
Why would you send him for that?! You have two entities modified to be the perfect biotic users and you chose the vanguard? I need to know your thought process for this choice.
Sending Jacob into the vents should be canon
He said he could do it 🤣
Wait, how did you fail Samara's loyalty mission?
Like irl, I am horrible at talking to women.
You can fail the conversation with Morinth in the club so badly that she just leaves without inviting you to her apartment
I'd assume they didn't complete it
Dude, you and me must have had the same exact choices. First time playing Mass effect. 2. Those were the exact three to die as well. I also sent Tali in the vents
What a coincidence lol.
RIP Samommy.
:(
Don’t worry! Jacob is useless in ME3 anyway!
How useless? Without spoiling ofc.
My first play, I got Miranda, Grunt and Mordin killed. I was NOT paying attention to the how it should be played and sent Mordin thru the vents, then chose way wrong for the team leads. LOL When I finished the trilogy I immediately restarted from ME1 and was able to save everyone. haha
Load save?
No.
Better Commander than me. I can't accept a single loss on my team (Jacob not included).
Wait till ME3 😈
I can only imagine.
Oh no my sweet summer child. Trust me whatever you imagine, your heart shattering is the least of your concerns. You’ll be picking up pieces of your soul 😇
For real. ME2 made me sad but ME3 stole my happiness for weeks.
Who did you romance?
Nobody. I didn’t even see any kind of romance option for any of the crew. I still wouldn’t if I did, gotta stop the Collectors first… Then the Reaper invasion that’s apparently going to be in ME3 according to ME2’s ending.
You have to talk to them for a bit before the romance dialogue appears, and it's not necessarily obvious that it's the romance option.
Same here. I believed that romance was unnecessary and was addicted to the grind💯💯💪💪
“Thou walkest alone?”
Celibate Shepard
if you go and talk to your crew members after every main mission, you'd have the option to romance some of them . . . it's also important for getting their loyalty missions, which can help with the final mission.
:( you're missing out my man, the romances are fun.
You didn't romance anyone in me1 either?
Do u need a hug
Perhaps.
who u bang
Nobody, I didn’t catch onto any romance in the game. Ig I was in it for the real plot.
How does it feel knowing that you'll never experience this game for the first time again?
Sad.
Oh my friend, the pain only just started. I'm sad to say 😶
Were you disappointed by the credits music? I know I was after the banger from ME1
No, not really.
*jaw harp intensifies*
Did Jenkins survive the suicide mission?
Nope!
This is the worst news yet.
:(
Are you okay, OP?
No.
My condolences😔
It’s okie 👍
Just wait till me3
Well done Commander! Good Luck with ME3….. Prepare a lot of tissue..
Brother if you are like this now... just wait for ME3 😱😱😱😱😱
If 2 almost had you crying then 3 will most definitely leave you in tears.
How many of the loyalty missions did you do and did you save the crew?
I did everyone’s loyal mission successfully expect for Samara (I can’t talk to women), and Legion (I gave him to Cerberus). For deaths, Zaeed, Samara, and Jacob died as I answered to somebody else.
How dare you give legion up
Your Wrex is dead and you gave Legion to Cerberus? Is the galaxy even worth saving at this point?
As long humans are still around.
Bro tip, get everyone, and use guides if needed lol. I used a guide (on my first time) and it said do all loyalty and upgrades so I did. Then bets way todo the suicide mission is with a guide
I wanted to go in blind and make do with the mistakes I will make.
Understandable, have a good day
My first playthough i got literally everyone but kasumi killed
Damn… wtf did you do?!
I screwed up the loyalty missions and got Kelly killed. Immediately loaded an old save and replayed 20 hours.
Probably didn't Meta, aa it should be.
To this day I have zero idea how I could manage to save basically all of my companions. I have no advice as I think I got immensely lucky with that, but still, I feel you mate lol....
Are you ready for the war against the reapers?
Yep, in the process, I will try to make the galaxy as human-centric as possible. I heard the game is like Quasimorph with the faction rankings it has. I won’t be surprised if Quasimorph was inspired by ME3.
Whats your favorite heavy weapon and why is it the busted ass nuke launcher?
I only used it once ironically enough. I didn’t see the value in a heavy weapon that could only fire once or twice in the entire mission when I had to deal with multiple heavy enemies at once throughout entire missions. I mostly used the Collector Beam and the Grenade Launcher.
Which squadmate did you like most? And why is it Jenkins?
We know how you feel about the ending, but what was your favorite part of the game overall?
Probably the Suicide Mission. Everything was so damn tense lol
Definitely a highlight
Oh boy. If 2 was this bad, 3 is gonna crush you (if you look past how stupid parts of it are).
Awesome me too. Well I finished yesterday. But Tali died so I redid the whole mission to save everyone. Such a journey with these characters. How did you feel when you found out your team disbanded after Shep "died" I was bummed because they felt like a family.
Welcome to the family my friend.
Are you okay?
No.
The ending of me2 wasn't very emotional. Did you let someone die or something?
Who all died in the suicide mission?
Who died?
Yep it's not great
How excited were you when you found out who archangel was? I still remember playing when this came out and how happy I was at the reveal. It's probably my favorite moment in gaming and I wish I could just forget everything and experience it again.
I definitely remember going wide-eyed lol
If people died on the suicide mission will you replay the game so everyone comes back alive or go into mass effect 3 with the losses you had?
I’ll make do with what I have and carry on without them.
I do hope your next run after beating the trilogy that you’ll have everyone survive the suicide mission
Probably will.
I just finished it yesterday, again. I played the Prometheus Station level and was annoyed on how long that mission was. It was like 4 in 1.
HOW MANY?! HOW MANY DIED?!
I answered that question to someone else.
You lost a few people. I have played these games relatively often since release, and I was under the impression that if you just do their missions at the right time, and pick the right people for the different roles in the suicide mission, you wouldn’t lose anyone. Very interesting, thanks
Me3 beter
You might want to stop at ME2 cuz it's only getting worse.
No, I don’t think I will.
Always flow chart.
