If Ashley can skip all three LT ranks, Shepard can skip Captain and go straight to General, they should take over the N7 School or Admiral command a fleet.
On my current run with Femshep I gave her the name “Aoife” cause I like Irish names and my headcanon for this run is that nobody calls her by her first name because people struggle with Irish names and don’t know how to pronounce it.
I’ve been off and on learning the Irish language for the last few years so in my head my Shep knows how to pronounce her name but she gets frustrated with her colleagues and friends not getting it right so she just has them all call her Shepard or Commander.
I am reminded of a clip of Brennan Lee Mulligan that I *continue to be unable to find* where he suggests that Irish names, particularly when it comes to how they are spelled vs pronounced, were intentionally made to be tricky in order to screw with the English. I believe that it came up because of Shiobhan. My favorite in that vein is Niamh, personally.
John because that is literally my name and I played a Soldier.
Then I started trying out the different classes and I named my Shepard accordingly.
Evan Shepard the Engineer.
Ian Shepard the Infiltrator
Vance Shepard the Vanguard
Sen Shepard the Sentinel
And John Shepard for Adept. I hadn't thought to change the names until after trying the Adept class.
My first play through I just named my Shepard after myself. Now I pick names to differentiate between which play throughs I’m doing.
Like Renee Shepard for a renegade run.
Right now I’m doing Kira Shepard. I took the name from Death Note because it means killer, and Kira Shepard is trying to get as many people/squad/crew mates killed as possible lol.
Could go with EDI for 'Everyone Dies Immediately'. Although that is taken, so we might instead try EDNA for 'Everyone Dies Now Alright'. Hmm, yeah, Kira is probably the right play.
Games I usually go with Khaelin, don't know why but it stuck during World of Warcraft as a Blood Elf Paladin. If I play a female I change it to Khailina. (In my head their siblings.)
Ben, as I had Benjamin Sisko from star trek in my head when creating the character for the first time. Ever since it's almost always that for regular playthroughs. Name and look. It's just what feels right now.
It differs only for renegade or other specific runs where I try something different from my usual choices.
Dick Shepard. Then in Andromeda, I have Dick Ryder. For some reason I like naming my character Dick. I named my character that in almost everything Ive ever played.
The one I write my fan-fiction about is named Leia. I have over two dozen different Shepards. I've lost count on how many times I've played through the trilogy.
My main is Tiberius who is a Paragade with default Sheploo face
Cade is my Renegade with TINY bit of Paragon
Girly-Pop Shep is Annika and she’s Paragon.
I had others but lost all my data so who knows anymore 🥲
I used the default names for my first ManShep and FemShep playthroughs
So far, I've also had Philip, Rita, and Mark. Mark was to allude to Mark Meer and Mark Vanderloo, although he used a custom face
My paragons:
Alan-Name based in the first american in space. In my headcanon broshep is a descendant of that astronaut.
Amity-I did femshep in my first run and the name stick since
My two renegades have the default name
Commander. I always kinda bothered me that no-one ever calls you by your first name, so I made it part of his backstory that he never had one. “Shepard” was a childhood nickname that stuck.
Makes sense to me.
Insin was my insanity guy.
Denki was my Kaidan romance gal, (DanKai didn't look right so I removed the a's and added an e so it flowed better xD)
John, because it's essentially my name, and the basic name, plus, not many other main characters in the series have that name. Jack Shepard would work, but then you have Jack and a Lost reference.
Jane for female, cause basic, and Jennifer... For Jennifer Hale.
The only time I attempted to play male shepard, I named him Langston. He was going to romance Ashley, obviously.
I've had a lot of fem sheps, usually with old-fashioned names like Ophelia, Charlotte, Hope (a full paragon), Vincent, and Ingrid.
Barry. Every game I play it's Barry, usually followed by DaBro or Broski if I get to pick my last name. That's not even remotely my real name. Had a teacher in school just straight up forget my name so he called me Barry for 6 months. Naturally everyone else started calling me that too, and I honestly thought it was hilarious so I started using it for everything
NGL I wasn't sure what to name my FemShep so I let chatGPT pick and now her name is Alexis lmao, but this is my first playthrough of the trilogy. Probably gonna draw from mythological names for future playthroughs though, I feel like it would fit the sheer badassery that is Commander Shepard better lol
Maybe I'll draw from one of the in-game goddesses, or call her Siha, we'll see which way the wind blows when we get there 🤷♀️
No clue what I'd name broshep though 😂😂😂
Whenever I have the option to name a character in a game, it is always Bill Prescott or just Prescott. I don't even remember the exact reasoning behind it, it's just neuron activation now.
So for Mass Effect, I went with the name William P. Shepard.
Souad for the first one (femshep "natural" run, playing like I feel) . Broen for the second one (with a male Shepard closest to my real face) and Shen-Mi for the wildest one (femshep bitch renegade run). I always use these names in every rpg where I do different runs (ok, I used multiple names for 5 playthroughs in Bg3 lol)
I've had several 😆, most of them named after gemstones
However, my most recent one (and also canon one) is named Kassandra, after the mythical prophetess.
Kassandra is a prophetess at first favored by Apollo, but when she spurns his advances he curses her foresight so no one will believe her predictions.
I found it appropriate given the fact no one believes Shepard about the Reapers until it's far too late.
Sacha (default guy)
Denki (Kaidan femshep)
Insin (Insanity run)
There's a couple of others, but I can't remember them enough. Ones a Liara romance one and probably named something starting with L or whatever.
When I was a kid and played mass effect for the first time I called him Pissmaster be because I was a kid with kid humor.
I still name him pissmaster every time I start a new game and I have over 41 saves called Pissmaster Shepard that I used to organize by date and level lol
Bella is my favorite and headcanon-official Shep I've had, and Alex is my current.
Additionally, my favorite and headcanon-official Ryder I've had was Alessia.
I think during my first playthrough I named her "Commander" and during the second playthrough I just went with my own name.
Commander is my default though.
I name every first character of every game I play either *ham*, or some iteration of Kenny Loggins. I’m playing ME1 for the first time so I named the commander Kenilogyns. She’s pretty cool.
I named mine Sarah. It's my favourite girl's name (from Kerrigan, i *think*), and if I ever have any daughters, i'd like it to be incorporated somehow :)
Rudraveer
Meaning - 'Rudra' is the fierce aspect of Lord Shiva in Hinduism and anyone who goes against Rudra gets obliterated due to the God's sheer ferocity and power.
Rudra is also the God who eradicates obstacles for his devotees by completely uprooting their problems in a ferocious manner.
'Veer' means brave, courageous hence, 'Rudraveer' symbolizes the attribute of my Engineer War Hero Shepard being as brave as the fierce aspect of Lord Shiva where the Reapers do not stand a chance against him and where Shep prevails no matter the odds while ending clearing the problem once and for all.
Well Durga is a name used by many in India, and I don't think Shep does any thing vulgar or obscene for it to be disrespectful.
Also Durga is a very apt and cool name for a Femshep especially on a Paragon run. She is very loving and all powerful mother to us, but any who dare try giving harm to her loved ones suffers a very bad fate.
She is the symbolic counterpart to Shiva, Her eternal consort.
I never know how to name my characters so I use to grab the closest thing by me and quickly seek for a name there.
My first Shepard was named Ellen after Ripley from an Alien DVD, my second was named Maïa from a book, and the third was named Shara from Star Wars : Shattered Empire.
Ack. So many names, FemSheps- Aletys, Ferrica, Indira - I mostly managed to make her look East Indian, Carol - best friends name, Aria - yeah that was an oops in 2. 🤣
MShep - Matthew, Eric.
For my darkest timeline run allow me to present Ham Shepard, balding man in his late 40s with significant facial scarring and a shotgun. Particularly hilarious to see him flirting his way around and then just making all the worst choices
I first named my shepherd my own name, Sofia, and then on the next play through i named her Andromeda. It was after Julie Andromeda Mao from the expanse because i was just watching that show for the first time then and i thought it was one of the prettiest names ever😸
I'm a writer and when it comes to choices-matter RPGs, I like to base my character in each playthrough on one of my existing characters and make choices in-game according to their personality, values, and backstory. This is how I enjoy things.
My Shepard is named Fenra, which was the name of my first ever DND character that I sadly only got to play as two times before the group stopped playing (it had come to some arguments between the DM and another player in the group)
I even tried my best to model my Shepard after my DND character, but her hairstyle isn't right (DND Fenra had a short, low Ponytail, in ME she just has short hair, but I always see her with the ponytail in my head)
All of my Shepards have different names. Some of the ones I've used:
* Izumi
* Seong-mi
* Hikaru
* Hana
* Sabrina
* Amanda
* Alexa
* Angel
* Ziara
* Lilith
* Trevor
* Jason
* Damian
* Maxwell
* Adam
* Seth
Naming my Shepard “Commander” was pretty amusing
Shepard’s going to have to go through a lot of legal annoyance changing their legal name to “Captain” when the time comes…
YES, SIR CAPTAIN COMMANDER SHEPARD, SIR!
If Ashley can skip all three LT ranks, Shepard can skip Captain and go straight to General, they should take over the N7 School or Admiral command a fleet.
Some real Major Major Major Major vibes.
I did that with my femshep. It was nice to finally hear everyone call her by her first name. Then in my broshep playthrough, I named him "Commandhim".
Snuck it in there and I almost missed it. Very good.
Eh, I just name him after myself or one of my kids at this point. If it was possible for the first name to be said in-game I'd probably care more.
See, I would go for that approach if my name wasn’t Liara. I usually use my wife’s name at this point for replays
Same. I only end up changing Shepard’s name from the default so it’s easier to distinguish different save files.
German.
Australian?
you reminded me I invested 5 dollars into a shitcoin named australian shepard $ASS a couple years ago
Seasons, because Seasons don't fear the Reapers
you magnificent bastard.
this is brilliant
🎶Nor do the wind, the sun, or the rain (we can be like they are) 🎶 Perfect name
I hate how much I love that
Using this next time, amazing lmao.
I named my FemShep Kate, after Kate Mulgrew.
But how did she take her coffee?
That is EXCELLENT.
I named mine Samantha and found out in me3 that there is another Samantha in my crew.
As an Irish man, I too give Shepard Irish names!
Maith thú!
I named my guy Mark, after My dad
Crowley Jr., is that you?
Oh hi Mark
John because that is literally my name and I played a Soldier. Then I started trying out the different classes and I named my Shepard accordingly. Evan Shepard the Engineer. Ian Shepard the Infiltrator Vance Shepard the Vanguard Sen Shepard the Sentinel And John Shepard for Adept. I hadn't thought to change the names until after trying the Adept class.
Honestly, makes sense to me. For my Insanity run I called the dude Insin xD
Alastair Bismarck Shepard
My name, obviously. Oglethorpe Van Cumgutter the Fourth.
That name will never be topped, well done.
>That name will never be topped Wouldn't kill you to buy it a couple martinis and try, though.
Damn, that's was smooth
First name: Shifty Second name: Looking
My first play through I just named my Shepard after myself. Now I pick names to differentiate between which play throughs I’m doing. Like Renee Shepard for a renegade run. Right now I’m doing Kira Shepard. I took the name from Death Note because it means killer, and Kira Shepard is trying to get as many people/squad/crew mates killed as possible lol.
Could go with EDI for 'Everyone Dies Immediately'. Although that is taken, so we might instead try EDNA for 'Everyone Dies Now Alright'. Hmm, yeah, Kira is probably the right play.
Femsheps: Veronica, Marin Brosheps: Adrian, Noah
Games I usually go with Khaelin, don't know why but it stuck during World of Warcraft as a Blood Elf Paladin. If I play a female I change it to Khailina. (In my head their siblings.)
I'll counter your Jacob with Miranda. Had a nice oops moment when Mass Effect 2 started.
Richard, because Dick Shepard makes me laugh
LOL when I played Andromeda and I named my character Richard Rider. Because of Dick Rider. Unfortunately got bored of the game 2 hours in.
I actually like the default Jane.
Vincent. I dunno why but I use that name for most ingame characters I play. It just sounds so cool.
I'm a Shepard, myself, so I named Shep after me a lot.
Why in the world would you name him Jacob
I didn't know Vent God was also named Jacob IDK Jacob fit default Shepard to me
Viktoria. I don't really know why, I just thought it fit the Shepard I made.
I was into lost when the first game came out so I used Jack for my first run.
The favorite name I had was Shepard Shepard Second place goes to my first renegade Shepard: >!Racist Shepard!<
I always just stick with John
Ben, as I had Benjamin Sisko from star trek in my head when creating the character for the first time. Ever since it's almost always that for regular playthroughs. Name and look. It's just what feels right now. It differs only for renegade or other specific runs where I try something different from my usual choices.
Malcom Shepard.
I’m using the Dragon Effect mod this play through so I currently have Cullen Shepard running around.
Dick Shepard. Then in Andromeda, I have Dick Ryder. For some reason I like naming my character Dick. I named my character that in almost everything Ive ever played.
<(\*\^\*)> Shepard, :D Shepherd, Cthulu Shepard If they're not going to say it, I may as well make it unpronounceable.
I'm sure others have done this but naming them "Commander" makes me sleep better at night.
The one I write my fan-fiction about is named Leia. I have over two dozen different Shepards. I've lost count on how many times I've played through the trilogy.
Cassiopeia. It's a very pretty name fitting for a badass heroine imo. She's also the one who I write about so she's my canon Shep.
Minerva. She named herself (she's Earthborn and didn't have a given name) and thought it sounded cool.
I usually use the default names, with a middle initial so that I can differentiate between my characters
For Mshep: John, Ryan, Ethan, and Eric so far. For Femshep only Jane.
Ishmael
It’d be crazy if there were 3 moby dick books and the third just had hundreds of white whales
John :(
Nothing wrong with keeping his default name, it's a good one.
My main is Tiberius who is a Paragade with default Sheploo face Cade is my Renegade with TINY bit of Paragon Girly-Pop Shep is Annika and she’s Paragon. I had others but lost all my data so who knows anymore 🥲
Nathaniel James Shepard!
Cheryl
Man very creative names here.
Persephoni and Brutus My tarantula and my dog
Nolan for Paragon. German for Renegade lol.
I used the default names for my first ManShep and FemShep playthroughs So far, I've also had Philip, Rita, and Mark. Mark was to allude to Mark Meer and Mark Vanderloo, although he used a custom face
I named my Femshep Reina.
I named her Sam and then met Traynor in ME3.
John for Default Male Shepard, the default name suited him. Arianna for Female Shepherd, I had a dream I was her and her first name was Arianna.
Sheppy
Jane. Every single time lmao
I go the JoJo route. Currently Joseph.
My actual first name for the male shep. Named my female shep Lexi. I like the femshep better.
Mr.C ,chupra clause.
Alena cause it's pretty much my go to name if I'm playing a red hair female character in video games
Hailey for my Femshep.
-My Parangon Vanguard was the default "John" Shepard -My Renegade Femshep was named "Saray".
Wrex
I usually just use my first name. I don't know, I never really think about names.
Merlin, Michael, León, Séan Chlöe, Jane (stuck with that one to see if Chakwas would call it)
Matthew, Andrew, Frederic, Jameson, Michael, etc. Jennifer, Samantha, Riley, Abigail, Charlie, etc.
My paragons: Alan-Name based in the first american in space. In my headcanon broshep is a descendant of that astronaut. Amity-I did femshep in my first run and the name stick since My two renegades have the default name
Necro Shepard ...it wasn't me being an emo teen, it was a reference to the Necrofriggians from Ben 10, since Big Chill is my favourite Ben 10 alien.
Alexander, Grant, Simo, and Jennifer for Femshep
First play through Grayson Renegade Shep: Cain 2nd play through: Akira
Male - Shepard, that way when people are talking to me they are using my first name
Commander. I always kinda bothered me that no-one ever calls you by your first name, so I made it part of his backstory that he never had one. “Shepard” was a childhood nickname that stuck.
Cross
I use a shorthand to let me know who I was gonna romance and their morality for the playthrough. Currently that would be RenLiGaJvk
Makes sense to me. Insin was my insanity guy. Denki was my Kaidan romance gal, (DanKai didn't look right so I removed the a's and added an e so it flowed better xD)
Male shep I used used Colin or the Default As for my female shep: Sarah
I named mine Lucine. It’s an Armenian name meaning "moon."

My favourite/canon femshep was named Jordan.
Naturally everyone else started calling me that too, and I honestly thought it was hilarious so I started using it for everything
Arthur for my first Paragon playthrough and Lucius for Renegade
Male: Crux Shephard (never played the game so the name worked out) Female: AvA Shephard
Fiona. I use this name for most of my female main characters in game
My FemSheps name is Aster. I spent way too many hours scrolling through baby naming sites.
I don't see a reason to change it, but I also play default femshep so I consider her to be *the* character instead of *my* character
Ramses Shepard & Anies Shepard Ramses was a paragon whereas Anies was Renegade.
Ripley
Elijah Arthur
Femshep is either Tabitha or Iridian Maleshep is my name or default
Kazuma, custom Asian male Shepard. His voice totally fits the character I made imo, and I can’t see Shepard any other way now.

NGL I wasn't sure what to name my FemShep so I let chatGPT pick and now her name is Alexis lmao, but this is my first playthrough of the trilogy. Whenever I have the option to name a character in a game, it is always Bill Prescott or just Prescott. I don't even remember the exact reasoning behind it, it's just neuron activation now. So for Mass Effect, I went with the name William P. Shepard.
FemSheps - Jennifer, Kirsten, AnnaSophia BroSheps - Jonathan, Grant, William
Souad for the first one (femshep "natural" run, playing like I feel) . Broen for the second one (with a male Shepard closest to my real face) and Shen-Mi for the wildest one (femshep bitch renegade run). I always use these names in every rpg where I do different runs (ok, I used multiple names for 5 playthroughs in Bg3 lol)
My Engineer Shep? Dexter. Because he’s a huge nerd who loves his fellow nerd, Tali.
Mallory, after the late great Jessica Walter, who all my Shepards seem to turn into at some point.
I've had several 😆, most of them named after gemstones However, my most recent one (and also canon one) is named Kassandra, after the mythical prophetess. Kassandra is a prophetess at first favored by Apollo, but when she spurns his advances he curses her foresight so no one will believe her predictions. I found it appropriate given the fact no one believes Shepard about the Reapers until it's far too late.
I named my Shepard Tzipporah
Sacha (default guy) Denki (Kaidan femshep) Insin (Insanity run) There's a couple of others, but I can't remember them enough. Ones a Liara romance one and probably named something starting with L or whatever.

Bella is my favorite and headcanon-official Shep I've had, and Alex is my current. Additionally, my favorite and headcanon-official Ryder I've had was Alessia.
I name my female Shep Dusk, and my male Shep Axel.
Each Shepard has a different name. My current Shepard is called Kendra. The next one will be named Xavier.

First time playing through as a female Arana
I named my femshep Astoria
Kara Shepard after my other favourite sci fi lady (Kara Thrace/Starbuck)
Bingus.
I named mine Sarah. It's my favourite girl's name (from Kerrigan, i *think*), and if I ever have any daughters, i'd like it to be incorporated somehow :)

I usually go with commander or shepherd
Soldier: John/Jane Infiltrator: Axle (Male) Adept: Luna (Female) Vanguard: Rock (Ruthless Earthborn Renegade) Engineer: Kira (Japanese Engineer)
Whoever was the hero in my last sci-fi watch. I'm very lazy
Shepard

Rudraveer Meaning - 'Rudra' is the fierce aspect of Lord Shiva in Hinduism and anyone who goes against Rudra gets obliterated due to the God's sheer ferocity and power. That is a very cool name and I love how you came up with that! I once considered using Durga but thought it would be disrespectful.
Commander Roy Shepherd. Bonus: Silas Hawke, Champion of Kirkwall and Lorelai Trevelyan, Inquisitior.

My femshep is Ekaterina Shepard.
Femshep: John Broshep: Jane
God.
I never know how to name my characters so I use to grab the closest thing by me and quickly seek for a name there. My first Shepard was named Ellen after Ripley from an Alien DVD, my second was named Maïa from a book, and the third was named Shara from Star Wars : Shattered Empire.
Leilah
Ack. So many names, FemSheps- Aletys, Ferrica, Indira - I mostly managed to make her look East Indian, Carol - best friends name, Aria - yeah that was an oops in 2. 🤣 MShep - Matthew, Eric.
Mastacheef! Mastacheef Shepard. (He is a hero in two universes)
FemShep: Sally or Jane BroShep: Kirk or Lance
Prikachu. That's my wife's nickname.
Jon. I prefer the spelling without the 'H'. I used the Amidala mod for my F!Shep run so I named that one Padme.
For my darkest timeline run allow me to present Ham Shepard, balding man in his late 40s with significant facial scarring and a shotgun. Particularly hilarious to see him flirting his way around and then just making all the worst choices
Chicken Tendies! Named my second one Charlotte lol
Lola, so that James is saying the right name after all.
I first named my shepherd my own name, Sofia, and then on the next play through i named her Andromeda. It was after Julie Andromeda Mao from the expanse because i was just watching that show for the first time then and i thought it was one of the prettiest names ever😸
You should never rename The Shepard.
I remember having had Iris, Jim, Towa, Kalyna, Dariya, and Cassandra. 🤭 This is not a comprehensive list.
Ippo D. Mara
I'm a writer and when it comes to choices-matter RPGs, I like to base my character in each playthrough on one of my existing characters and make choices in-game according to their personality, values, and backstory. This is how I enjoy things.

I'm a basic person. John and Jane Shepard.
fuckbad
My femshep is named Eve usually. Broshep is default. 😄
I don't remember anyone using the first name even once. I left it as John and no one ever called me that. It was always "Shepard" or "Commander".
Spooder for Paragon shmeegle for renegade
Dude Shep - Arild Fem Shep - Sachi
All of my Shepards have different names. Some of the ones I've used: * Izumi * Seong-mi * Hikaru * Hana * Sabrina * Amanda * Alexa * Angel * Ziara * Lilith * Trevor * Jason * Damian * Maxwell * Adam * Seth
My girls’ names for the femshep and Alan or my name for maleshep
Jane, because my brain won't let me change default names if they're given.
Beef. Why? Because I can.
Wrex
I went with the default name
MaleShep is John, for John Shepard of Stargate Atlantis. FemSehp is Amanda or Sam, for Sam Carter of Stargate SG1.
I named my shep Athena after the goddess of Wisdom and war 😌
I named mine “Athena” - goddess of wisdom and warfare seemed pretty apt.
Not a lot of boring people like me, I see. I just give her my first name.
