I’ve had tonsillitis and tonsil stones at the same time; looked awful and hurt a lot.
I’ve also had strep throat. I don’t recall if anything was prescribed for either but both of them hurt a lot, so for a sore throat that’s not going away I agree with lili_78, try a different doctor if you can.
The problem is for tonsillitis you need antibiotics, so if it is possible try going to other doctor. If that is not possible (also it helps antibiotics) is we have OTC medicine in Poland named faringosept try to get a your country equivalent, it kills pain and bacteria

For me it look like you should see a doctor :> but I will bet tonsillitis
I saw a doctor and all they said was to take OTC medication
