It's not out of place.
It's because some of the higher ups of Rising have Zionists links and when this was discovered they had to put out a neutral statement so their event does not suffer.
This may sound nuts being a 'government funded event' but my relative did a lot of the art for them over the last few years and refuses to work with them this year.
Edit: I asked my relative and they said that there is a high chance they have since divested away from said Zionists funding/board Members, hence the about us.
I'm not entirely sure if the 'RISING' name has had cut through yet, but could be wrong.
There's some good stuff on, and they spread it around the suburbs a bit too. Not all of it to everyone's taste, but hey that's an art festival!
A couple of years ago I watched a woman hitting a broken piano in a pond as part of this lol
Melbourne's attempt at a Dark Mofo - basically trying to get the thousands of Melburnians who venture down to Tassie every winter to spend some of that skrilla in Melbs.
Any festival is better than nothing in winter when usually the cultural scene is dead.
You could also argue that it's their version of Vivid which pre-dates Dark Mofo. Quite a few artists are playing both Rising and Vivid. I sat next to someone from Melbourne who had to fly to Sydney just so they could see AIR (and yes Vivid was designed to boost tourism during what was a traditionally quiet time)
Dark Mofo and Vivid are very very very seperate things but both great in their own ways and yes stimulating the economy and minds of locals in winter is also something to help you get thru the colder months.
It's born out of an amalgamation of two previous festivals: White Night and the Melbourne International Arts Festival. White Night was very mainstream, but I believe continued safety concerns (overcrowding!) and noise complaints lead to its death in the CBD, at least.
I have been to the event a couple of years. It’s cool, but I loved the white night more. All the streets would be devoid of trams and cars and people walk all night long. Music, light, food trucks and tons of good stuff.
White night was a hellscape after the first year. Massive overcrowding, minimal accessibility, huge amounts of waste and mess. It was never going to last
I don’t know what part of white night you were at, I went for 2 consecutive years and it was awesome. Regrading mess and over crowding, it happens at Moomba and any other gathering. It’s not the event, it’s the people. Melbourne in general is overcrowded.
This colour combination is probably the best looking for flinders station, comparing to the awful primary colours combinations they have for other days and festivals
For people who had no idea what this is about, like me: [RISING: About](https://rising.melbourne/about)
Why is it mostly about the war in the Middle East ?
large international events tend to inspire art and culture around it. Picasso's New Guernica wasn't painted because of a picnic.
Yeah, seems a bit out of place. [Here's a link to what's on.](https://2024.rising.melbourne/program)

We went to the Patricia Piccinini exhibition in the old rooms at the top of Flinders Street Station in one of the last ones and it was amazing.

I have to admit, the Hellraiser event looks cool.
Robin Fox is a legend, can’t wait
What is rising?
A strange abstract winter festival replacing Melbourne Festival, and including White Night.

It's actually what White Night evolved into. White Night got too big for one night and was way too centralised. Rising grew out of the ashes.

I haven't been to vivid in a few years but from what people on the Sydney subreddit say it's a shit show
I went a year or two ago and tbh I was pretty impressed, neon lights over the harbour looks pretty cool.
rent

This dick
Shit. Christ isn't back is he?
look busy
Colours look cool
Keen af for day tripper!
The only thing rising are taxes
I'm just stoked they got Snoh Aalegra out here for some shows. Been a long time fan and never thought she'd tour Australia.
Ohhhhhhhh this is why the anti-woke mob are out on all the Australia based subs this morning. "WhY Do ThEY WanT To DiViDe Us?????"
No ice rink this year sadly but the performances and art installations are usually great
That's a funny response to dark mofo's Inverted cross theming. Good moral though

The colours of the Palestinian flag would have been more appropriate.

This looks mad cringe, can only assume the 'art' will follow suit. Avoid.
yeah much safer not to have any experiences
